lol i wish the 4.6ghz was on the e6300 cuz i would hold wr for highest fsb hehe. will have some more e6300 to try out and see if i can hit over 500+ fsb. my p4 is really stable at high fsb with an ok amount of vcore. i wish 1.8 actually put out 1.8 but ill have to mod the board for more vcore not a problem. pulled a 29 second super pi run with the p4. didnt do much testing on the e6300 cuz i was hoping for well over 500+ fsb but the chip wasnt up for that. tried all bios and still the e6300 is still stuck at 480 fsb. 450 fsb is really stable at about 1.5-1.55 not sure witch one but it was right in there. more testing soon.:)

All my problems are sorted out.

Installed new 3DMark05 version 1.3.0, system can now bench mark with out crashing XP64. Version 1.0.0 is the problem child. This one gave me hard crashes when overclocked.

Secondly ghosted back my XP64, like a fresh install. Power saving mode is working again without problems. I switched it off in Bios this caused hard lockups when selecting minimum power whithin XP64. This could have caused my corruption.

I stay in South-Africa and getting good parts or memory is a problem.
Most of the time they don't do shipping to SA.

Lastly which is better to run with memory timeing 1:1 or 3:2 (533 or 800).

anyone know why my 965PT can't seem to detect my 2xSeagate 7200.10 320GB SATA2 hdds?

The bios gets stuck at detecting hdd for like 3 mins and ends up detecting nothing.

I've tried stilt, 914 and newest 965 dlx bios.
Swtich sata ports, sata cables, power source, sata1/2 mode.

But all to no avail. Can someone help me please?

did u install the ide driver on the disk that came with the board. thats wut i had to do and it works fine also make sure u install the chipset driver.

The thing is non of my HDDs gets recognised.
So all i have is access to a DVD drive and a thumb drive.

Could it be a faulty SATA controller?

Two things to check.
See if system detects HD during boot up.

Secondly:
See in bios setup and check if SATA ports are not disabled.

I only have 80Gigs and 200Gig SATA drives.

Could you lend some else HD to test who you know it is working or visa versa.

hey guys, i recently purchased this baord after my p5b-d went south on me, it seems to be a nice board so far but i am having a or had a problem with my windows install getting corrupted and was wondering is there a pci lock on this baord, you know the one that gets locked to 33.33, i guess if its pretty much a dfi board it may come allready locked but i jsut wanna be sure

other the that great board so far jsut no raid which was a little disapointing and the ram layout next to the vid card sucks but oh well it performs great

This board has been a pain in my ass lately. I moved my whole setup to an Antec P180, and the board no longer boots. Neither LED turns on, which is a CPU/Chipset error. My close friend had the same issue after he took his board out of his case to reseat his heatsink. Luckily after a bunch of reboots and swapping video cards, his board booted up again.

Clearing the CMOS does nothing. I'm wondering if the BIOS somehow became corrupt, even though that makes little sense. I plan on hotflashing the new bios onto my chip and trying it; otherwise, it'll be getting RMA'd.

It actually does overclock better. Now my board is stable at 460. Before that, only 410. Thats I think improved memory support:cool:

well heres my p4 541 runnin on the board. not to bad of results im happy :) . hopefully i will have another e6300 soon to test last one had fsb wall at 480ish. this has been a good board for me so far so cheers!

I've been tweaking away with this board for the last few hours, and I cannot get it to boot above around 449-450mhz fsb. The post starts to act funny around 448mhz, sometimes it just sits there like it is stuck halfway through the post.

Basically, everything seems fine with at 445mhz fsb, ram at 4-4-4-12, yet another 5mhz and everything goes to hell. Relaxing timings to 5-5-5-15 does nothing, nor do raising voltages.

Not sure where to go from here.

Can Anybody Post And Go Into Windows With 1.55v On The Nb Setting In Bios And Is Stable. before that is really great ecspecially wit a c1 and not c2. or is it a bug

Yep. I think you were right. The 103RH Bios got me sorted out... I've broken the 450mhz barrier now.

Looks like my ram takes a dive right around 450mhz though as I'm forced to drop the CAS latency to 5 to get it stable.

Am I right in thinking my best bet is to max out the system with the ram running at 4-4-4-12?

My friend's board couldn't boot past default NB voltage until we put on a better cooling for the north bridge.

1.55v on stock nb cooling causes it to lock up on first post screen but simply putting a small fan off my p2 on the nb has solved it for now. :toast:

P.S. this board is great for the price providing you boot at the right fsb.

I have 3 of these boards, 2 C1's and a C2.

On board #1, the mosfet controlling the VMCH blew the first time I set it to 1.55V, which is actually 1.85Volts. I had modded the board for cascade use, so there was no chance for a RMA. But The Stilt quickly provided me with a more powerful mosfet. I had some problems de-soldering, but at the end the board is now running fine, although I have not benched it seriously.

I strongly suggest putting a hs on the mosfet, which is located NNE of the NB, if you plan to use 1.55V on the NB.

Board #2 is a happy puppy. It does FSB 540.

#3 is with the C2 NB. I did not have too much time with it, as the Asus Commando arrived. Still FSB 542. Limit seems to be my CPU, as the Asus reaches the same.

I have only been able to achieve decent o/c with the 803 'The Stilt' BIOS. The other ones seem to coded to prevent any overclocking.:confused: I boot with FSB 397 and go up with ClockGen.

I'm perfectly stable up to 448mhz @ 4-4-4-12, yet 450mhz is nearly unbootable at the same timings. I found it odd that things went downhill so quickly at precisely 1800mhz FSB, which got me to thinking about what I had read about the NB trimmings having a large effect on stability.

to test this I booted up at 455 @ 5-4-4-12 and then used memset to bring the cas latency back down to 4. So far so good, looks to be quite stable.

So, am I right in thinking this has to do with the NB timings, and that by setting the cas latency to 5 in the bios I indirectly loosened the timings on the NB?

EDIT: Now testing at 485 @ 4-4-4-12

i wouldn't call it indirectly...i would say directly since the memory controller is situated in the north bridge...this is not like the AMD X2 processor with the memory controller onboard the cpu die.

E6300, 2.4v Memory voltage, 6-6-6-12-auto(1:1), fsb 550 was possible.

1m dual pi finished. :)

D9 1g x 2 for this test.

You should be able to go tighter on those timings. Try booting up at 6-5-5-15 and then use memtool to change the cas latency to 5.

This is so frustrating... I purchased this board before I read this thread, and then stumbled on this and see all of the success you guys are having..

I can't even get it to 300 FSB without errors or freezing. Upping CPU voltage doesnt make a difference, I went as high as 1.4v. Upped NB voltage as well, no difference. At first I thought it was my 350w PS, so I got an Ultra 600w PS, voltages were solid. Same thing though.

I have Super Talent 2x1GB PC6400 4-4-3-8, maybe it REALLY hates my memory. I have heard that they started using Elpida or Promo chips, and mine is week 49 (oh im pissed!) so thats probably what I have..

I have the latest BIOS version from biostar, tried the one from 1/5/07 and now 1/9/07. I have also tried the latest RH bios, no difference.

Note: This is on XP64, i dont see why this would make a difference really. Also I have read to disable ACPI before install and that it improves performance, is this true?

Alright, well, the best I could do with a quick overclock (not trying for each and every single mhz) was 333 x 9 mem divider at 533 (667 mhz memory, sucky)

No matter what, the memory won't go above 800ish mhz and boot, regardless of timings..

Then the motherboard won't go above 340ish..

So it looks like I am stuck at 3Ghz and 667 mem (3-3-3-9 timings)

I'll see if it passes mem-test at these timings..

not happy in the slightest :( picked hardware for this PC with OC'in strictly in mind and I probably could have had better results with random equipment :slapass:

Delux bios also runs well to my 965pt.

For me, the best bios so far is the 965pt 103.

I think I might have finally figured it out!

Each time I loaded a new BIOS, I would go through and make the changes I wanted. One thing I would normally do would be set the max temp cutout to 65 deg. celcius in the power options. For whatever reason this makes things screwy.

Im sittin here now at 3Ghz and 500Mhz memory and its stable, memtest found 1 error. Got 16.xx in superPI 1M

Still only at 27 deg celc. normal load air cooled :D

EDIT: Did some more OC'ing or trying to... Doesn't seem to want to go to 350 or 366 well, and it completely failed 400Mhz FSB. That sucks. It seems to be really buggy with the 667 divider.. makes it hard to get good clock AND memory rates

What are you guys doing for NB voltage? I'm afraid of the huge jump to 1.47v on "1.35" and what is FSB termination or whatever?

Memory divider problem. Only 533 divider is possible For FSB 400+.

FSB voltage doesn't have temperature issue.

I found strange subtimings between 0921rh & 0103 bioses.

timing settings at bios---------

fsb : 449

ram divider : 533

timings : 6-6-6-12-auto(s)

------------------------------

At the Memset 3.0,

0921rh bios set tRFC to 28.

but, 0103 bios set tRfc to 42.

& some SubTimings are slightly different.

I have 1g x 2 d9 ram, and 0914rh, 0921rh are the best. (up to fsb 500)


0103rh is not good for my memory. FSB 449~450 at best.

Apparently, 0103 bios targets value-grade memories because trfc is 42. But, probably this timing is not good for d9.

Finally, 965pt is not flexible to various memories.

The Biostar engineers need to work harder to solve this problem! :mad:

I am using Biostar's official 103bs bios now, just because i can change the multiplier if i want to.

Right now I am running 367x9 (3.3Ghz) and memory at 550Mhz(5-5-5-15)

I notice it takes a ton of vcore to get stable, I am running 1.424v!!

At mid 40 deg cel. full load

SuperPI 1M of 15.266 seconds!! Not bad from the stock 21.xx and a minor (and what should have been a 5 minute OC)

Does winflash work when flashing to the official 103 with this board?

Im thinking on getting this board(Biostar TForce 965PT version) which 2gb ram kit on this page would be the best for ocing this board with a 6300.less than 230 euro would be best and I heard the max voltage on this boad is 2.2 is there any of the kits on that page that can oce well with only 2.2 volts I dont want to do any voltmods.

I am using bio 103 by RebelHaven. I can go up to 485 x 8 but I am using windows Vista Ultimate 64bit so it can not display correct. Suicide overclocking CPU vcore 1.68, Memory Voltage 2.1, MCH 1.55 and other max on air cooling Zalman 9500, no mod or anything.

103rh bios wasn't as good as 914rh for my board. In fact, it didn't allow to boot over 500FSB*9 while the board can do it up to 570FSB*9 with 914rh. Yea, you read it correctly, 570FSB*9!!! :eek: It loaded windows up to 560FSB*9.

I tried booting @600FSB*9 and the system posted, reporting 5.4GHz on post screen but was @3XXFSB*9 under windows. It looks like the board tries to find another strap for booting that high.

Very nice board! BTW it's cold-bugged < -90C:

- changing Vcore doesn't work very well @ about -90C
- strap 1333 isn't available anymore @ about -130C (may be @-100C too because this issue sometimes happened @-90C)

I have trouble with system halt after setting fsb 500+.(E6300 + 1g x 2 d9 rams)

I installed watercoolings to my cpu, northbridge & pwm + vdimm mod(2.4v setting).

But still sometimes boots easily, sometimes system halt.

Do you have any know-hows overclocking 500+ with this board?


p.s. The Significant difference between your system & mine is that you're using 512x2 rams, but mine is 1g x 2.

Does this affect the fsb 500+ overclockability?

I am using an EverCool Copperman HSF, ambient temp is about 70-74F deg, like most houses I would suppose.

Got my new setup (minus ram) up and running. using some 1x512mb generic ddr2 4200 until my 2x1gb firestix come tomorrow. Currently priming @ 429x7 @ 1.25v with no problems, but I have a feeling I'm severely limited by the ram until tomorrow. I'm using the 533 divider, but I wish there were actual divider choices :| and I'm also confused...cpu-z says I'm running @ 429mhz, and it's pc4200, so this ram is overclocked from 266mhz to 429? haha that's pretty funny :P

i had the same problem with the e6300 i tested on my board. it would boot fine up to 475 to like 479 then once i tried 480 it would crash and i tried everything and no go. i cant use the 1.55 nb volt option in bios it will not boot so i need a nb volt mod so i can boot higher fsb. i was using the 914rh bios to and it wouldnt boot over 480 but now i have the swiftech nb cooler on it so it might go higher never checked. if anybody knows of a nb volt mod plz let me know. thanks

edit : it's 1.4v stable actually. I'm using the lowest voltage setting possible on the mch/fsb termination/nb, ram @ 2.0v, cpu at 1.4v

I want to install THERMALTAKE EXTREME SPIRIT II for the northbridge but not sure if it fits cause zalman 9500 is big

any photos of someone who has the same installation or someone who has tried it?

I've hit a total wall at around 510mhz. My ram is good to ddr1100 on a divider, so that does not seem to be the limiting factor. My e6300 still has tons of headroom as well, it runs 500x7 @ less than 1.4v.

Seems the board is holding me back.

I'm using a Zalman cooler on the NB and the stock NB sink on the SB.

Hey all, I'm new here but not new to overclocking. (previous overclocking endeavors of mine included a duron 600 @ 1ghz, a P4 1.6A @ 2.66ghz, and a P4 2.4C at 3.2ghz). I waited awhile through a bunch of overly expensive processors that didn't overclock well enough and finally found a candidate worthy of building a bang-for-buck overclocking system in the E6300 with Tforce P965PT. I actually paid a total of $210US for the motherboard and CPU. But anyway, here's my experience:

Out of the box I was unable to break 300mhz FSB. I flashed to the rebels haven 921 mod bios and was able to squeeze an extra 72mhz out of the board, but I'm stuck at 372mhz now. The CPU is air cooled, idling at 32C and reaching the low 50's under load. A significant increase in CPU voltage didn't provide any increase in attainable clock speed, despite temps remaining comfortably low. I don't think my RAM is holding me back either. I have previously tested the ram stable at 450mhz at 4:5 (667mhz strap) at FSB360 (see screenshot) but I am currently using 1:1 (533mhz strap) at FSB372.

I think the CPU has more to give than 7x372, after seeing other results online. My NB heatsink, however, is painfully hot to the touch. It burns me when I do a finger test (I can't get a temperature reading on screen anywhere). I am thinking I need to replace the NB cooler, but I've been out of the scene for so long, I don't know what chipset coolers are good/worth their cost. Does anyone have any good suggestions for northbridge air coolers under $25US? I'd like to at least break the elusive FSB400 barrier and run my DDR2-800 rated ram at or above SPD with 1:1 strap.

wut are your bios settings when your runnin at 372 at 1:1 and how tight are your timings.it could be just a few settinds are wrong in bios. also try the 914 rebels bios it may work better. i have a swiftech mcx-159-cu northbridge heatsink it cost $32us and its a beast very thick base over quarter inch of copper and cools great.

I want to install THERMALTAKE EXTREME SPIRIT II for the northbridge but not sure if it fits cause zalman 9500 is big

Originally I was using the 103rh bios, and couldn't run anything but 5-5-5-12 on my ram.

Now I'm using 914rh bios and I'm running 4-4-4-10 no problem.

Weird huh? Too bad I still can't boot past 479...479 boots, 480 doesn't :\

it will fit if u turn the nb cooler the right way and it doesnt matter if they touch

DamienKC@ can u boot with the nb volt setting on 1.55 cuz my board wont and i have a good nb cooler. mine did 480 and then a crash but didnt get to test it enough. will have results soon i hope

I've noticed that when I run at FSB372 with 1:1 DRAM, as opposed to FSB360 with 4:5 DRAM, it automatically changes to more aggressive memory timings. It goes from 5-5-5-15 to 5-4-4-12 on its own when I change the strap from 4:5 to 1:1. I've also noted that my tRFC changes from 35 to 28. I don't know too much (other than the basic concepts involved) about memory timings because they didn't seem to matter so much last time I overclocked a system (about 3-4 years ago). At any rate, here are my memset/CPU-Z RAM screenshots at 7x372:

I think I've decided I'm going to upgrade my NB cooler and move the stock NB cooler to SB before trying to go any higher, but any input on my RAM timings would be appreciated :)

is the Tforce and the Tforce deluxe the same ? the deluxe have some extra :banana::banana::banana::banana: right?

It seems to me that there's no deluxe in the usa...

there is no deluxe in the u.s for sale as of yet. the deluxe has 6 sata and pt has 4, the deluxe has raid and the pt dont and i think theres a few more things but cant remember right now.

Newegg has it for $72, but open box. I just sent mines back because the motherboard pins were bent off:nono:

I've tried the 921 dlx bios and the 914 dlx bios from rebels haven, and neither one yielded anything more than FSB372. I might try Biostar's new 103 bios for the 965PT today when I get home from work.

stock. I'm hesitant to set those voltages higher because my NB heatsink is so hot already that I fear frying it. I nearly blistered my hand doing a finger test the other day. I don't have a temperature reading on it, but my NB feels hotter than my uncle's old Athlon XP 2100+ (Palomino revision A) CPU did, and that thing ran at 70C under load. To make myself feel comfortable, I'll replace the heatsink, then try overvolting.

Thanks a bunch for the link JWilson. I was having major problems breaking 300-310 FSB no matter what I was doing. I tried the official BIOS 103 and didn't improve very much, but the Rebel's Haven got me up to 355x8 for now on stock air cooling and stock voltage. I am looking forward to pushing it further when my aftermarket HSF comes in.

Hi, i myself built new pc with:
Biostar Tforce 965PT (bios 103bs, C2 stepping, SL9QX)
c2d e6300 SL9SA L631A364
cooled with Zalman 9500LED, changed stock NB cooling to zalman NB47J and some aluminium sinks to mosfets
ram is Elpida DDR2-1066 5-5-5-15. single 1GB stick

i had same ~360-370 limit problem, whetever i tried, even with high MCH/mem/core voltages and dividers. every way it stuck at around 366Mhz FSB. First thought was that i have crappy cpu.
But being not satisfied, i tried 400Mhz (yes, 360+ didnt boot), just for a thought and BANG: machine was up and running. same voltage, same settings (1:1). Stepped up a bit 425>450>475>500Mhz and all fine. Booted FSB500 1:1 fine (mem 5-5-5-16), tried spi (sime ~17,5 sec, i have a screen on home comp, now at work). amazing, why it freezes on 360 and runs fine on 500. next step was 517FSB, but it didn't finish boot to win.

As already 500 was achieved with monster MCH voltage (bios 1,45v but in reality around 1,64V), i stepped a bit down, put it down to 1,44V (bios 1,35v if i remember correct) and FSB 475Mhz 1:1

after that tried Orthos blend for some 2 hours before getting to sleep.
as core voltage was pretty high 1,48V load, today i'll try a bit lower, maybe it'll work fine.

so, for your 370 trouble: have a heart, put some volt more and FSB 400+ (on a E6300, e6600 will be too much to ask over 400)

and as for stock NB sink. actually is not that bad, only that the thermal paste is applied too much. it's good at least to scrape off a bit or change to some better paste. but then again, even my zalman nb47j was VERY hot even to touch, so 450+ fsb needs good airflow or aftermarked NB sink to be stable in closed case.

anyone installed vista on this mobo yet?

I install for like a month or so. I'd like to ask you guys how can you set the speed for Tuniq Tower because on this motherboard the fan blow only 2000rpm, but the Zalman 9500 blow 2600rpm. On my Asus the Tuniq Tower blow at 3600rpm I can't set it running faster.

WTF, I have not passes 365MHZ, but a jump to 400 will boot and seems stable so far.

cause there is a small gap in alot of the boards in that FSB range. the 1333 FSB gets forced once your past this hole, allowing for higher clocks. this has been shown on the forums by Tony at ocz, IRC with another board. with the ab9's though there seems to be tweaked timings for the chipset allowing it to hit in the "hole" that some mobo's have. this is more then likly why alot of ab9's seem to top out at or around 425mhz fsb. there is no option in the ab9's for a 1333fsb strap, abit was able to add one to the aw9d's. seems rather simple for them to add it in, once they do though i bet ab9's will have the same "hole". im just guesing on that part.

Well it is confirmed. I have since that last post been orthos error free :p. I am glad I don't have to order that DDR2 8000 anymore. I am fine with this clock for now @ 3.2 .
