apparently there is a newer beta bios 715, if anoyne has it already please post a link!
So as it stands the board doesnt let you use the multi up/down at all? Anyone know if thats gonna change or thats how they plan on keeping it....I saw that it was hidden in there but why not enabled.

What a night I am having. I have just broken 400FSB *I think* and we have a new BIOS to try out over the weekend. Good things tonight!
Let me give all you MSI mobo owners a key piece of advice. The reason I broke 400FSB was because of adding a 70mm fan to my Thermalright northbridge cooler. This northbridge gets HOT and it need an aftermarket heatsink along wiht a 60-70mm fan mounted on it as well.
Tell us how 715 is :).
I got E6700ES CPU and still no multi change in BIOS.... nothing different from visual sight of view...

Just a quick question. I've managed to get my FSB up to 400Mhz FSB without a BIOS update. The only thing i miss is NCQ (I have to use IDE mode on my NCQ capable SATAII drives) really and i've heard a few people say that the BETA BIOS solves some issue with this? Is it true? I dont want to flash if i dont have to :).

At 1.6v my 975x chip shows 48c (temp probe) while gaming. This is with a small fan on it (chip cooler mounted directly on the stock cooler). Without the fan it would be on fire. Maybe some of us are having problems due to high chip temps? I wonder why some have high chip temps and some are low?
I have mine at 1.6V, and I touched it last night after my computer was idle all day and it was very hot at 360 FSB. Anyone have any suggestions for cooling it other than just blowing a fan at it? Are those Zalman fanless NB heatsinks any good? I'm hoping it's just the hot NB that's keeping my clocks lower.Quote:

UPDATE: At FSB 333 and org vcore 3dm05 failed at cpu tests, at 1.45 vcore it passed. I will raise fsb higer and see what happens :- )
Passed at FSB 360 to, and cpu temp is 38C at load.
I ran superpi at FSB 400, PCIe 1.65 and vcore 1.51, 38C load. 3DMark05 crashed.
At PCIe 1.75 i couldn't even boot. So lover PCIe is better, for me. Screens will come later.

Yeah I have no idea. All I know is that it's not hot anymore after Thermalright HR-05 + AS5 + 70mm fan. I really think people need to re-evaluate their northbridge cooling solution. I don't think its some random problem only I am having.Quote:

Got the msi board & G. Skill in today, the E6600 came yesterday. The northbridge does have a massive heatsink but I'm gonna get the glue gun out and mount a 60mm fan on it to start. I'll be using an entry level watercooling that did well with my opteron. Also to start, I'm not gonna install in a case. I'm gonna use an open test bed with fan blowing across to eliminate any heat limitations in overclocking. Too often people report high bus clocks but neglect to inform others that the system in not in a case.

Two things which the bios fixed for me:
My max FSB in bios is now 550 instead of 265 :)
And the bios works very smoothly now, before it was kind of slugish and slow.
Have not tried much OC, I just booted at 4.74 Ghz looked around and went back to 4.5 Ghz.
I'm still running the shipping BIOS (7.00) and I had a quick nosey around in the BIOS and the maximum FSB is 550.Quote:

You may notice the northbridge cooler looks the same as the ones used on the Neo4 Platnium series, but its not, has a thicker base and whatnot.
375FSB is good for me too, with factory passive NB cooler - can run couple benchies, Cinebench 9.5 & 3DMark06 at that FSB speed.Quote:

My max FSB is now 400 because of better NB cooling.
Monday I am shooting for 420FSB. By the way I have not touched the PCIE voltage. It's my belief that better NB cooling works better than simply upping the PCIE voltage. Just a theory.
All right. Finally got my rig up and going. Specs are the following:
MSI 975X Platinum 2.1
OEM E6400
2x1GB Patriot PC25300 LLK
I was aprehensive about using this board from the mixed reviews I've read in this thread but so far I've only run into minor problems. With the factory 7.0 bios I got it dual 32M stable at 385x8@stock vcore. At 395MHz I couldn't get the bios settings to stick. I'd set it in the bios, reboot, and either get a hang on a black screen or get into Windows only to discover the fsb is back at 266MHz.
Flashed to 7.14B and things got a lot better. I'm now dual Prime stable at 400x8@stock vcore and I'm dual SPi 32M stable at 425x8@1.4V. Still have some testing to do to find the max but so far I'm impressed with this board. I was running a DC Opteron@3.05GHz and switching to this Core 2 Duo dropped my 32M time by 11 minutes! Crazy.

440x8 seems very stable as far as the motherboard is concerned. One core failed Prime after 1.5hrs so a slight voltage bump from 1.45V should do the trick. Vpci-e is at 1.6V.
Dual SuperPi 32M resulted in sub 17min times.
Heres a pic of my msi watercooled, first the chipset, then the CPU, then the GPU, all in 1/2" and using a D5 pump, and I've put an akasa low-profile fan on the southbridge (its noiseless so its fine).

Been running Prime and CPU-Stability with Winamp MP4-HE-AAC2-PS audio in the background, running like a dream! The memory clock is slightly down from the last 370FSB run, its running at 800Mhz now compared to 924MHZ, maybe I'll tweak that next...

Hi all just checking back in. Hows the new 715 beta doing? I put my MSI on the shelf and got myself a Gigabyte DS3 just to see what my 6400 can do and sure enough the MSI was holding me back. That being said the MSI is much faster at same cpu speed, matter of fact it takes a extra 200 mhz on the DS3 to match my MSI scores in SuperPI and 3dmark.
If the 715 loosened up the board at all and helped fixed some of those boot issues I will power it back up.

Your temp readings on bios 715 is what I find very interesting. Core Temp is showing your chip about 15c lower than mine (based on 1.4 vcore@3.4ghz) using more voltage, Mmm. What cooling are you using and what are your load temps?

I mean, I got my E6600 at 400FSB stable with ram at 800!
And we all know how low the ceiling is on these E6600 and E6700 chips, unlike their 2MB younger sisters the Allandale E6300 and E6400's.
I think I'm gonna stick with this rig, this board is a bargain, you can get the top speeds and stable, plus you get an Intel Pro 1GB LAN chipset thrown in and the new Realtek audio chipset, sorted :)
The only thing missing, is MSI's slow response to us early adopters of conroe tech. "COME ON MICROSTAR - GET OFF YOUR ARRSES and SORT US OUT!"

day187, nice results. Try running your ram at cas4-4-4. I know for a fact my MSI 975X is faster than my DS3 and with you having a 6600 you should be well under my DS3/6400 combo at same cpu speed. Non tweaked.

I assume that no one is seeing vast improvements with the 715 bios but also it isn't hosed?
Can't seem to get a consensus on this bios and whether to flash to it or not?
I was plagued by the boot/reboot problems and how it reset my overclock options in the 7.00 bios. With 7.15 I have gotton one or two, but not eveytime with the older bios.
Flash to 715 imo. The bios feels a lot smoother now, no more of that lag. Less of the rebooting problems. A little bit better OC for me. It also fixed the max fsb problem I was having in bios.
Ok just finished setting up my 975X again. Question for those who flashed to the 7.15, how did you flash? I downloaded the 7.15 and tried to flash in dos and get error message "Source file cannot be found"

prompts the flash utility then I get the error message. That is the correct bios file? Same way I've been flashing for years and how I upgraded to the 7.14

after testing my msi yesterday and this morning i cud not get past 400fsb on both e6400 and e6600 so i moved over to the asus alot of drama getting the thing to boot, anyway after all was done i installed windows and nowoverclocking.
I know if is an asus motherboard and this is a msi thread but i thought you might be intrested in the overclock between the 2.

I found out what was holding the board back from rebooting running over 1:1 memory. I had to add some more voltage to my ram. 2.3 volts 902mhz@4-4-4-10. Boots up every time no more memory divider issues.
I have been looking at alot of bench marks from the other 'higher fsb boards' and find the MSI to be faster clock for clock. Anyone else notice this:confused:
My MSI smokes my DS3 even with 200mhz less OC.:banana: Thus why I put the DS3 back in the box, that and the board has heating problems. I've noticed the MSI is real picky about memory that might be why so many are having problems getting to 800mhz. That being said I can run my TeamXtreem 2gb at 4-4-4-8 at 814mhz with only 1.9v completely stable. Raising the vdimm voltage does nothing. Also seems the shipped bios played better with the Micron D9 sticks as well. Might revert back for more testing as before I could bench at 426 as I can't even get into the low 420's with the 7.15 bios.Quote:

Well after some more testing it seems the MSI requires much more cpu voltage compared to my DS3. Example, 3.6 on the DS3 needs 1.52v stable, now doing some testing I can now boot into windows at 426x8=3411 but needs 1.48v.
It might just be a 965/975 chipset thing but I would try increasing your vcore if you haven't already.

Guys been playing with my 975X all morning, few things I found out is don't bother with the PCI Xpress voltage, meaningless in my book. But a positive is those have issues reaching 800mhz especially with 6600 and up should be increasing PCI-E frequency, try 110 and leave Xpress voltage at 1.5.
A negative is my GSkill HZ sucks on this board and my TeamXtreem are much better though both have Micron D9 chips. That being said one of my TX sticks boots into windows at 450 while the other is crapping out around 440, timings 4-4-4-8, increasing voltage does little.
All that being said I can boot into windows using 4:5 divider with my ram maxing out around 480fsb or 960mhz, so what does that tell me:confused: Unlike Amd where the memory controller is on the cpu I have no idea if my 6400 can handle anything over 426 1:1 or its the board.
Is testing using a divider a good indication that my ram should go higher? Dam ya Intel for making it difficult.:slapass:

One more thing. Well I shut down and clear cmos I noticed it doesn't clear the vcore setting. Not sure if this has been discussed but even after I clear cmos and set optimized settings then flashed back to the 7.14 my vcore still read the same as the previous OC. I now just noticed why my OC was going down hill so gotta check your vcore after you clear cmos to see if back at default. If not power down unplug PS/clear cmos should be good to start your new OC.
Hey everyone, my first post! I've actually been reading this thread since it started, and I finally recieved my board after a DOA+Rma etc. Anyways my chip can clock really well with this board, unfortunatly, my temps are ridiculous. It reads 63c idle at 1.48vcore 3.5ghz! I've used everest, and core temp to monitor. Now i'm scared that I did something wrong, because I set up my first watercooling kit, Bigwater SE. I spread AS5 correctly got all the tubes nice and snug, and the pump feels like its working :p: So whats wrong?

Hey everyone, first post for me (I joined about a week ago but can only start posting now). It's been great reading this entire thread over the past few weeks. I ordered this board and should be getting it by Wednesday or so, so I can finally start posting results :D
The 715 bios does'nt do much at all, maybe a little smoother but thats it.
Board has trouble rebooting when O/C settings reassigned in bios. A 5 - 10 second pause after complete power down, fixes that.
You should be careful raising PCI-E frequency as it can corrupt windows.Quote:
