Start simple with a single drive and one stick of ram...see if you can't get that going first and get a feel for the board. If you can at least get it to post test the ram with memtest from a floppy as well. This board can be a handful coming from a LanParty. The first post has a link to some manual settings that should help get you going...

hmmm you may be correct in saying that once the o/c is stable it stays at 16x. i've rebooted a couple times (pcie at 110) and it stays at 16x.

what is the max pcie you guys suggest? have any of you actually had anything fail at higher pcie speeds? i ran HDs for years on 37 pci w/o issues.

funny thing about that, it was out of the box, stable enough to install windows and run some prime at 400fsb.... then when went to play some HL2 it rebooted and wouldnt restart.

the thing HAS ALWAYS been slower then dirt to boot. *shrug* its got 2 raptors in raid 0, so when i do get it to post, i go to set the bios to accept raid etc... and it locks up before i can save. i have already installed windows on this thing, in the exact form its in....

and yes, coming form a lanparty board, this thing is a MAJOR pain in the ass....

i will be sure to try using 1hdd and 1 stick of ram as soon as i find a floppy drive XD (my dfi has memtest built in :P)

Try it even without the harddrive or any usb plugged in. Just try to get into the bios and see if you can get rid of the long post, because this board does not usually take long to post.

well i can get into bios now, turn out i have a VERY bad stick of ram (dont want to talk about it) i can now get into bios and windows, HOWEVER it still takes a longtime to post,

ive tried all stock settings (spet for raid setting) ive tried all sorts of stuff, not sure what it is. if anyones got any ideas let me know.

Are you using any of the mobo fan control stuff or do you have any fans plugged into the mobo?

pull the plug on the psu and clear cmos for a good 15 minutes and reset your bios where you were before your problem started.

Any ideas ? Tried Bios 614, 711 and 801 till now. CPU is E6400, testing with 6x multi. Ram is Cellshock 1000 so it should run fine at 420. Hope anyone can help cause 3200 on an E6400 is not exactly what i expected :)

Got same problem, stable with 410FSB .. but 415 no boot, tried to worse timing on RAMs, no go, not even lowering multiplier from 8x to 6x. Using last bios.

it does happen stock. I cleared the cmos and the issue still exists. My computer is competely stable too, and it still happens.

it is funny. I could of said the exact opposite thing a few years ago. Went from an Asus board to a DFI board, and it was horrible. But now i feel the exact same way as you.

I noticed with the latest 801 BIOS that if set my bus speed to 450MHz, when I reboot the Video bus is always at x16. However, during my stable settings of 405 MHz that it will revert to x1 very frequently after rebooting. Unfortunately 450x7 isn't stable on my 6400, so I live with 405x8, which can Orthos for 8+ hours.

I submitted a ticket to Asus 2+ weeks ago on the PCI x1 issue and they have yet to reply. :mad:

P5B is an "okay" board IMO. Asus is kinda like Sony...you're paying for a name and reputation and high expectations usually exceed actual performance. My Infinity was a snap to set up and doesn't have any of these quirks we are seeing with the P5B...doesn't have the high FSB capabilities of 965's but I've managed some really good clocks all the way up to 423mhz on it which is plenty for E6600's and the memory performance 1:1 and using the dividers is spot on as opposed to the drop off you see once you go over 400mhz with the P5B...

I've got a 64, 66 and 6700 just waiting to see what the RD600 can do...high expectations for sure but I think the LanParty series mostly lives up to the hype. Realisticly you are looking at hours upon hours of memory tweakabilty when it comes to LP's...not a whole lot to do when it comes to cpu's...just add voltage :) It will be interesting to see how well it can pull off 1T and what that brings to the table with regard to overall performance and the benchmark junky...A whole new round of 1T vs 2T is just around the corner...Today is November 1st...so the countdown begins if the November release holds true...

Suddenly i can hit FSB 450 lol, of course with lower multiplier, but still, previously it was not stable even to boot, now its orthos stable ... weird mobo really.

Holy moly, I've been through hell with this board. Maybe it's due to my own stupidity, but here's the deal: bought all this stuff about a month ago, and put it together. Mobo wouldn't POST. Tech support at ASUS told me to RMA the board for a BIOS update (to enable support of Conroe CPUs).

Just got it back today, still doesn't POST. I've independently checked the video card, the CPU, and the RAM. I guess the only option left is to get another PSU and check that as well, and I've already got one in the mail.

I'm just wondering if anyone on here has/had a similar setup and experienced any no-POST problems. I've tried numerous bench-builds, case-builds and (as mentioned) individual component testing. Unless the other CPU I got doesn't work either (I bought a cheap Celeron to test with) which I consider to be unlikely, I don't know what else to test.

Anyone with any information will be rewarded with my undying gratitude and affection. Well, maybe not quite undying, but it sure would help me out. :D

I think i see where the problem is > the memory. These mobo sets the highest SPD settings automatically. That means in ur case, DDR2:800>>pc6400, and that requires more volt than the 1.8 default bios value (maybe 1.9 or more).

Buy/borrow cheap ddr2 (like 256mb) memory, get in bios, set Vdimm higher, reboot with 2gig memory

Before doing that, try booting with just 1 stick.

damn tha t pci-e 1x.. Dont know what to do.. have tried 1,7 v SB and pci-e freqs

well i found out the no posting was due to bad ram.

however it has always had the LONG post times... also every now and again on a reboot or power up, itll hang for a super long time then reboot itself and take the normal long time to post... this is with all stock or with oced

i have a few fan speed pluged in i diasble the ones without speeds (like cpu) whenver i can get it to post, which now is far more often. luckly the compy is going to try and fix my ram(i voided its waranty) but it will post and be stable at all stock setting as it sitts, i mainly wantto get rid of these long times before it tries to post.

thank you guys for the help! it saved me MANY hours of frustastion.

the memory that you have was the same as i have used on the P5B and it posted fine with "Auto" for Vdimm setting...

i would suspect the PSU...i presume that is a 24 pin ATX supply...and, i presume you plugged in both 12V 4 pin molex plugs to power the CPU?

:confused: Now that really concerns me.
I wonder if there is a relationship to the voltage regulation on this board???
I have to feed it unusual Vcore to get things in line and the actual voltage reported is .5 or more less than manual set.

what do we have to do Vmod to run stock?:eek:
