Does the six engine affect my overclockability or stability ?
How does the PCIE setting effect overclocking? I know if it is higher that it will net more of a score but, my prob is with my GA-EX38-DQ6 if I went over like 105 "I think didn't test to see where the issue popped up" I would lose my raid and after that the raid controller would think the drives were bad that dropped. I don't know if the bug glitch whatever you want to call it is still prevelent in this controller or not....
I just got this mobo and I'm very happy so far. My previous Rampage couldn't oc as much so I'm happy. I can run a Q9450 @ 3.8 (475x8 1.4v 39C/61C) OCCT 8hrs stable but Prime blend freezes my computer in 10 min. Any suggestions? I've tried messing around w/ GTL (.67~.63) and same thing. Ram passed Memtest.

Hello all. This is my first time posting on this forum, so please forgive me if my questions are at such a basic level!
I purchased an open box P5Q Deluxe from the Egg, so did not get any accessories, manual, cd etc with it. I know I can download this all from the asus site, but I know that there is a certain "order" to install things, or else you might run into problems. Could someone provide an ISO image of the install CD, so I can install using the autoinstall feature? You could PM me. Alternately, if someone can suggest the order to install drives, I would appreciate it.
In addition, i also have the P5K-VM motherboard for a HTPC, and had some issues when installing the ASUS software. It would bring up this asus acpicenter application all the time, and I couldn't get rid of it w/out going to registry. What asus addon application should I or shouldn't I install? Thanks in advance!!
Don't install the Asus software.
It's basically crap.
I just let Vista find all the drivers, & for those it didn't have or needed updating, i got them from Asus's site.
Intel chipset drivers -- vidcard -- soundcard -- antivirus -- lan -- other stuff... I never use AI suite and co as they seem to be very buggy sometimes and can completely ruin ya windows install (like you have noticed yaself)
I always use CPU-Z, Lavelys Everest, Core and Realtemp for monitoring... for clocking I'm a bios guy... and rarely use SetFSB and co... and surely no AI booster or other craptastic stuff...
And autoinstall is not good as it will install everything. With the above you got the essential for ya mobo all the other things are gimmicks to me and not needed by clockers and prolly will look for trouble...
Awesome information, guys! People basically say to not install *any* of the Asus software, but what about the software that controls the low-power features (EPU-Six Engine)? I think the express gate software is needed, if I want that.
Do I need to do something special if I go with RAID1 for my C: drives? Should I use the two EZBackup sata ports? With vista, will i need to make the raid/ahci driver disks before the install, so that I have them during the install, or will it deal with these automatically? I've only installed vista on the PK5-VM, but that was only for a HTPC with a single drive. Guess I should just read the manual!
People always post right after me and everyone misses what I ask, and say lol.
I can boot max at 105 here with GTX 280 and 110 with 8800GTX cards, Pmp has got some 9600's I believe and they boot even higher... think some cards are limiting PCI-E Freq big time... like every Mhz counts with an OC , a small increase in PCI-E can give ya some better scores in benchies but hardly believe it's noticeable in real time gaming environment as the gain is pretty low...
I can not install the drivers of the chipset, when I install, asks to restart the machine, and the restart, enter a black screen with some options, and I do not know what to do.
lol you have to pull the cd after you reboot :)
I tried using the ones on the asus website to get the supposed newer ones you speak of because I used the cd, and the dates haven't changed on my chipset after install,,??
ive found an interesting quirk on my p5q-e
windows apps are reading my ddr2 as ddr3 :p:
everest, cpuz, and memset all read out ddr3...
901 bios. it only occurs when i reach a 11k+ bandwidth though....
it's not a mobo issue but program issue :) I have it on all speeds here ... doesn't matter what bandwith or such ... does it even at stock here...
Cob - That worked!!! Popped out the Battery for a few minutes and went back in - flashed to 0706 and everything works the way it used to. Quite honestly, I don't know if it was clearing CMOS or downgrading to 0706 which really helped -but at this point, considering I'm back up to 3800Mhz Prime Stable, I see no reason to go up to any other BIOS - until a major improvement/feature comes in any newer BIOS.
Anyhow - will be posting Screenies/BIOS Settings later - but Thanks again mate, can't ever thank you enough.
:)

This mobo is getting on my nerves
Wife " it crashed on me" but is prime stable
redid watercooling and unit won't boot just runs the GPU at high fan speed. Take out a stick still nothing drop in a stick of Dominator 1066 Iam RMAing since this mobo doesn't like it but at DDR880 it booted to bios.
reset my settings and even lowered them to DDR-820 tried to reboot with 2 stick nada , pulled the #1 slot out and now it boots.
Why is this mobo so flaky too bad nothing better at a reasonable price is avil. and I doubt anything new before winter.
wel.. i encounterd similar issue....i use 2*1g g.skill 6400phu-hz. the board can only boot with certain one stick. the other one can not boot, no post. two sticks will not make the board post either. no post. but these 2 sticks can work properly on p5k-e.......bios 0803
Well I have no problems,, I think it might be the memory hmm maybe,,.. I have G-Skill. What device{s} in the device manager should I be looking at the version on them after I install the supposed newer chipset drivers on the ASUS website? I hope that makes sense.
Hey guys need a small favour here for a friend :)
He's just upgraded to this board including Q9450 & GSkill 4gb PI....running @3.8Ghz
But he has an issue with his Zalman 9700 running full speed, nothing he changes in the bios relating to 'cpu fan control' makes a difference, anyone able to diagnose what could be causing this
mb will not control the fan speed, as i know 9700 has its own fan speed controller, does that work?
It does work with the Zalman controller yes....but cant the Mb control it also ??
ps. He upgraded from a Giga P35 DS4 which was controlling the cpu fan.
