pwn'd again :shakes:
It doesn't matter anyway as most of my piddling budget is gonna be blown on replacing the motherboard in my son's Opteron 170 rig. Why don't I replace it outright you ask? Total budget is $50. :(
My first s939 mobo, actually. An Asrock 939-SLi.
<sigh> so close!
Now if our PM will just pull the pin so I can get some election work ...
No idea. It's just talk at the minute. Plus this government is cagey enough not to call an election while half the population are still pissed off at them over internet censorship/insulation scandal/whatever.
His ideas aren't actually socialism, they are just too far removed from your normal situation to jump to in one leap like he's trying.
Our health care system, for example: I didn't have to pay for surgery or anything related to it when my appendix and I had a "falling out" about 2 years ago, but I still generally have to contribute to the cost of seeing a GP and for any medication.
That's not socialism. It's public health care.
Even I think he should be staying home rather than out showing off his slightly brown complexion all over the world, though. I've got other issues with him, but this isn't supposed to be a political thread ;)
I have the crunching fever so I am looking to build another rig just for crunching. Sossaman seems like it would be a good investment for the cost and power consumption. However, I am looking at heatsinks for the the setup. I know of the 'ABBHEATSINKS' but is there something else can be used? I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835114092 for the heatsink. I read that socket 771 has the same layout, but I am still curious since it seems like a waste to shell out $20 for 2 aluminum heatsinks and they have expensive shipping. This heatsink from newegg (x2) would be a few bucks cheaper with shipping and it is solid copper. Just looking for alternatives. I guess I could use zip ties for some other heatsink?
Thank you
Dale
From what I understand it won't work because Sammy doesn't have an IHS, so there is a gap with other heatsinks, or something like that.
Yeah, that is what I read as well, but I am not sure why it will not work since socket A athlons didn't have an IHS and they were able to have a flat base on the heatsink. Maybe it is the uneven pressure when installing the heatsink since it uses screws...
Hm...maybe a shim would help with stability and protecting the core.

Free shipping St Patrick day.
I'm a bit tight right now, so I'll just have to wait. I might be in contact later though.
u can use these like I did:

:D
Looks interesting, what did you use to secure it?
Thanks. I'd forgotten about that pic.
Is anyone using a sausageman rig as their daily drive? How would you rate it's performance compared to a regular consumer desktop rig? (of similar vintage of course, there's no point comparing it to a full blown ST rig for example)
I have a Sossa as my backup rig (which I recently had to use for a month due to an exploded board.)
I have it running with a cheapo, passively cooled Quadro card in the PCI-E slot and it's a great daily driver. Nothing like a server board for a daily driver. It's so solid that it makes windows seem uncrashable... then again, it's running server 2003 :p:
Honestly, if the Intel BB board didn't have a huge form factor, I'd build a few systems for my friends/family and rest assured that they'd run forever. They perform mundane tasks extremely well.
Also, there's nothing like seeing two CPUs at nearly room temperature under full load with low-profile aluminum heatsinks and a single, silent 120mm fan.
Oh yeah... and it scores OVER 9,000 in 3DMark06 with a GTX260
