And with Bios 0614 you dont need to do nothing in BIOS , you can use any setting that the bios always run LINK WIDTH x16 ;)

lets hope that ASUS solve this problem with 0804 OFFICIAL .

BTW: BIOS 0711 , 0801 Beta and 0804 Beta all of them have that BUG of LINK WIDTH x1

Uh nope.

Mine runs quite fine with 0711 with no 1x PCI-e issues.

PCI-e is always @ 16x.

Maybe we have different revisions of this mobo?

Probably not a different revision. This problem "moves around" a bit, as different people have "solved" it different ways. It also sees to get worse the faster you go. On the system I helped my buddy build, he had to back his chip down from 3.6 to 3.5 to have any chance of anything greater than 1x, and even then he would sometimes have to poweroff, switch off the psu and then restart to get 16x back.

-pci-e issue= I have been using 0711 for a month, and it works well @16x.
My Vsb is 1.60 and Pcifreq is set to 100.

-harddisks read speed= U shall never reach 300mb/s with a single harddisk. U have a average read speed of 55mb/s, and that s very normal for a single disk. I am using my raptors at raid0 mode and having a average read speed of 130mb/s.

-''fsb wall @520''= What do u mean wall? I think we all have forgotten how great overclock this is. 520-266=254FSB OC!!!!! Who has ever done this with a p4, A64, opteron, any cpu ever made ?
Ppl, plz be happy above >500FSB.

-sound problem= has anyone else this problem, that the sounds scathers in games (low>>to high freq, and bass effects).

2tam2, I know the X-230 is 2bad for X-fi.

Well when I built my C2D system with 2 Seagate SATA 3GB drive they both had a jumper installed to limit them to 150/SATA2 specs. Not sure about other drives but I have read that on some you need to run a utility to change them from 150 to 3GB.
OEM drives are no different then retail drives when they are being manufactured. They come off the same assembly line and until the are packaged no one knows which will be a OEM and which will be placed in a retail package.

I read on Ftool User Guide,the guide for diagnostic tool for Hitachi Hard Disk, that they are shipped in Sata I configuration and you must change their configuration with that utility.Besides this, with that utility you can also change the cache,apm and acoustic parameters to improve performance despite of silence and security of data.

hmm, the western digital tool doesn't seem to change from 1.5 to 3.0. part of my problem is where to address this problem. I thought it was something I had to do with a controller on the p5b so that's why i'm here. but i'm not sure where to take it now, maybe to WD

does'nt seem to be any fixes for this sound problem yet. i went to pci card for sound and solved the cracklin etc., but seems to be a driver conflict with bios, no irq conflicts so i'm just waiting for a better bios or if someone else comes up with a workable solution.

Bios 0804 OFFICIAL released but have same link x1 BUG :(

@Kakulukia , the bug its not PCI-express MAx suported x16 , open CPU-Z and look to LINk WIDTH not to the MAX SUPORTED

every time we restart computer or change settings in BIOS the LINK WIDTH run x1 .

to run x16 we need to go BIOS and LOAD DEFAULT SETTINGS then turn OFF PSU , Turn ON PSU , Go to BIOS again and then set what we want .

(same procedure all the time we restart computer :()

I wish. Even with the settings suggested, i still have major issues with the PCIe speed. Half the time ist is 1x, half the time it is 16x.

Can someone please explain where to find the p965 chipset drivers that I am supposed to install during the F6 process??? Also can someone explain how do do this?

I found the jmicron and intel storage manager drivers to install during F6 but I cannot find the chipset drivers mentioned previously. I downloaded the p965 express chipset drivers but this is nothing that can fit on a floppy. Should I just install this after installing xp?

It seems the LINk x1 BUG its only with ATI cards or SLI/Crossfire

the only Nvidia card that i saw with this BUG its the 7950GX2 (maybe because its Dual GPU)

Its a weird thing though. Got a rev 1 mobo, tried about any bios there is, run both win2k sp4 and XP sp2 and never had x1 its always x16. Doesnt matter what voltages i use, it just doesnt happen. Got a X1950XTX with cat 6.10 beta.

I figured out the problem, it is that stupid Asus AiNap. I never enabled it or anything, but as soon as i end its process, computer shuts down fine.

I may just have to try a peltier on the chipset.
I would love to be able to do 550x7 so i can run my ram 1:1. Right now i have to chosse between 450x8 for 564mhz ram, or 480x8 for 960mhz ram.

I enabled the 3.0 Giga support for my Hitachi Hard Disk with Ftool and the benchmark of Hdtach passd from 130 Mbps to 214 Mbps;i'm quite satisfied!!

Who else has this sound problem? Is tam2, swiftex, I the only ones who has this sound crackling prob?

-My gfx card runs @16x . I havent changed any particular in north/south bridge settings in bios.
I have a 7900GT, Nvidia.

I just noticed the sound problem. In DOW(DC) when I have a ton of units fighting I will hear little "pops" once in awhile.

1. Support conroe L processor
2. Update JMicron option rom 1.06.22
3. Modify CPU fan low limit speed from 800 RPM to 600 RPM
4. Implement ASUS CGI performance with ATI 1950 graphic cards

Anyone know what this JMicron ROM update actually fixes??

well, p5B runs fine with ATI card with a lot of people
but i have the feeling the pcie@1X pb is more often seen with ATi card
in my case, my p5b-d is allergic to my X1900GT :slapass:
i believe it maybe because of the option about crossfire enhancement or whatever (edit : ASUS CGI performance) :/
and for "safety reasons" graphic cards runs in 1X :/

And, you are sure that it isnt your speakers but the onboard sound?
That is the main question :D .

-x1 issue= Can't it be a forceware problem?
Test this= reinstall windows, dont install nvidia/ati forceware driver yet. Now, check what cpu-z shows.

I dont think it is the gfx card itself, but bios~~~driver conflict.

I just remember, i have disabled Firewire and gigabit lan 2, u never know, so try this too.

People with x1 probs, are u guys using an extra pci card (soundcard or something)?
Because if have only installed my gfx card , nothing more.
