The bottom line is that DFI must make a decision on these matters based on the facts at hand. These decisions are reached by myself and the repair technicians. I am aware that the person on the other end (you in this case) will not be happy if a decision is not in their favor. That all said, a decision has been made and it is binding. I don't expect you to be happy about it.

Perhaps as some small favor to give you a peace of mind I can tell you that I have been doing this for a long time and have mitigated 1000's of cases just like this. It is often so that in these cases a person doesn't mean to cause damage to a product, but they unknowingly cause damage anyways. That is what has likely happened here. I do believe you that you didn't recklessly overclock the product.

From DFI's standpoint it all comes down to one thing and that is the state in which we receive the product. It is the only thing that is relevant."

Now i go to buy another brand because DFI SAT sucks, be carefull with yours mobos, the warranty is for only boards than can be repaired, the other´s are f......

OK so what can i do now?i had 62c pwm for 10 months and now almost 90!something is going wrong pwm heatsink is cool!the summer here is hot(30-33 room temps)and its getting close!so i will hit 100c pwm!the mobo start to smell weird!my retailer says mobo plays its ok no rma!if dfi dont s*ck tell me why this?why so many burned it?why i cant put pll to 1.80 or 1.85 and i have a damned broken thing in voltage menu with final 24/3 bios?i have to wait till the mobo explode or burn?Or to risk reseat the heatsink my self?some there at dfi must give their answers with their work(if this is helping users or making mobos,bioses,etc) and not to play the role of a loyer at forums!

FINALLY PLL VOLTS FIXED with 29/4/2010 bios realised today!This is the first bios with intels 6 core cpu support that dont have a bug at pll volt option for this mobo :shocked: congratulations :clap::YIPPIE::YIPPIE::YIPPIE: Now lets focus on the pwm problem from my search(google etc) 2 people with a burned mobo the one posted here!and 4 people burned because they tried to reseat the pwm heatsink because they had crazy pwm temps!its time for me to choose.....waiting to burn?or reseat the pwm heatsink?if happens the first or course as you can see at Blacknach's post dfi is gonna tell me ok burned no guaranty!if i remove the heatsink and reapply tim or just to check what is wrong there again no guaranty...so either it is or isn't your fault one thing is sure NO guaranty:down: btw pwm area smells more and more day by day like a burned chip/trace something bad is comming i feel it:(

lol.. u should read ppl.. on why they burned the board. its not a new issue
the problem has always been the reset the cooling near the cpl chips which are not meant to be passively/actively cooled by a heatsink.

second the board has always been a good board.
its limitations were the bios. its just too small to hold the same amount that was added on to the evga classified. etc the subtimings of the uncore, cpu skews, fixed rtl etc.

they problem ppl have with dfi rma is because they are so accustomed with asus/gaygay etc mainstream mass produced boards.. they dont repair. they just give u a new one.

dfi has always been niche and they dont realise the pros of dfi which u dont get a lot with other manufacturers

1.access to the engineers for custom bios and good feedback and response time.
2.the arguement before the x58 days that digital pwm doesnt make much of a difference and actually requires more voltage.. with the intricacy of x58 , i7 cpu etc.. and dfi experience in digital pwm.. they made the first good board.
3. rma.. this board is no auto settings.. so overclocking/changing cooling etc is all a risk.

not always some bunred like Blacknachs!if you had 38c ilde and 64 load at pmw for long time and one day you notice that you have 62c ilde and 89c load and a bad smell started came out of the pmw.. my retailer told me if the mobo operates its ok i have to send it to dfi myself and waiting with no mobo/pc for weeks!and again i wont be sure if they are gonna tell me hey buddy something here is almost half burned etc take it back cant fixed your fault!btw if i had the money i would by the evga but dfi was cheaper here...so i get what i paid for...

any burning is bad.

the dfi ut i had..worked perfectly for nearly more than 200 hours of prime/linx
until i sold it off to somebody who sold it off to another person.

only then there was a issue which until now i cant even answer.
wasnt burned or anything physical that can be seen
but the question remained what did two of them do.

Finally good news from DFI about clear bios, I've to try it. Now if they put B2B CAS# Delay it will be great :)

I've removed the pwm heatsink without any problems when I put it under water.

The PWM heatsink is gripped not so tight as to damage the regulator (at least on my motherboard). When I removed the heatsink screws, without any effort it is peeled off from the PWM. Even noticed that there was not good contact between the cooler and PWM. If you work carefully, I see no reason to worry about removing the heatsink. My board is working until now without any problems, but this pwm area smell in your case is not good indication indeed.

B2B cas delay kills the performace...
for ram clocking on this mobo the most important thing is use the right settings for PWM switching frequency and adjust the referecence voltage of the ram.
I hope that those templates may be usefull for someone. :)

I have another query about an SSD that maybe someone here can help me with.

I just got a Kingston SNV425-S2 SSD which is my first SSD.

I went to enable AHCI in the BIOS and then when I went to install Windows 7 it wouldn't let me. I got to the screen where it lets you choose which HDD to install Windows on and every time I select the SSD it won't let me. I can install it on a regular HDD, but for some reason it won't let me install on the SSD. How exactly do I enable AHCI so I can install Windows 7? When I enabled it, it seemed to enable it for all hard drives. I have three other regular 7200rpm HDDs in the system.

For now I changed the SSD back to IDE mode and installed it like that. What am I losing installing it with IDE mode compared to AHCI?

you loose next to nothing as far as speed goes..you dont have the removable devise option when set to ide..

with AHCI disabled you loose Native command queuing, hot plug and some other stuff.

i haven't used this mobo in the case then i don't know if the bios has some problem with the sata controller in AHCI mode.
one thing is sure, the latest bios is the best for performance and stability in overclock.
flash it and see if something change... :)

does anybody know if a retail or B1 ES Westmere now runs on DFI UT X58? Gulftown works fine, but perhaps a Hardmod is needed to run Westmere, like on Evga boards...
