Dak, what to you boot those caseless rigs from? USB drive or LAN or what?
Actually there is a HDD behind each one, the balance of the files are from my Server sitting on my Lan.
I can't wait to buy a house and fill the basement with octocore rigs.
Now there's the spirit...
The one octocore rig I have is 2 opteron 2350's with Vista x64. You guys think it would be ok to run 4 smp clients with AC? Or should I just stick to 2?
4 s/b no problem...I can easily run 2x smp with 2x GPU's on a Quad
Why not use Notfred's? four vm's with smp on two cores, or less with the right flags to get the a2 core? a2 should max out the octocore on it's own already afaik (!!??)
WFO & RR were in the Top 25 outputs for yesterday...:clap::clap:
F@H Halloween Team XS Salutes you !!!
a2 core is supposed to fix the whole dual smp thing. but that doesn't explain why RR gets 8000ppd out of one quad on 2 linux a2 core wu's by running dual linux smp's... so I wouldn't put too much faith into a2 solving the dual smp issue quite yet. sure it's better than a1, but it's even more efficient if you tell it to run on 2 cores per client. otherwise RR wouldn't see 8000ppd on his QX9650 using dual smp in ubuntu.
:up::up::up: :clap::clap::clap:
Great work guys!!
That's linux cat. and that's what I thought.. a2 still likes 2 cores per client to run on... so you still get better utilization with dual smp's even with a2. which shoots a big fat hole in PG's story of no more dual smp needed for a2.. eventhough they say smp is designed for quads, the numbers dont lie. you still get better ppd running them as a dual core client.
that same Q6600 is what mine are in Vista and I get about 1500ppd per client (a1).
Gotcha. I'm getting about 1.5k ppd per smp client on my q6700 as well. I guess I'll stick to 4 a1 smp clients then.
So when's the A2 core coming to windows?
PG is having problems getting a2 stable in windows, so no eta..
In Vista with 2-SMPs QX9650 @ 4Ghz I get 2000 for each or 4,000 total plus 2-GPUs. @ catawalks I am not sure about A2s and windows, I read somewhere than windows was not stable enough to run A2s...
Yeah windows is just not as good as linux  Sorry Bill :poke:
Wake Up Everyone! *bangs Trashcan*
 To Notfred's dual VM I guess.
Edit actually there is tweak room left.. I got 10% cpu iddle time
Wfo sorry update will have to wait ( but I got the new eue notify done just need to finish the own clients list and gui changes  ) Biggest change will be the new version being an installer since I added zip support for submitting bug reports ( all log files/queue.dat files/debug output ) and the zip lib is 3rd party :(
linux dual smp is different than windows. with linux you're basically telling it to run each client on 2 cpu cores with a taskset command.. otherwise it's just running both clients on all 4 cores. and you wont see the high ppd.
example...
Code:RUN CLIENT #1:
cd ~/FAH1
taskset -c 0,3 ./fah6 -smp -local -advmethods
RUN CLIENT #2:
cd ~/FAH2
taskset -c 1,2 ./fah6 -smp -local -advmethods
maybe I'm confused with NF, I've never used notefred's and really don't know anything about it. I just thought it was a linux ver smp. shoot me down if I'm off here..
but I'm on about the taskset commands with dual smp in linux.
yeah but I got two vm's not one :)
ok.. those dual smp ppd numbers just looked low for linux...
