yeeee got this mobo last weekend when my striker has commited suicide, and wow, what a great motherboard!
My quad is running pretty smoothly now, i remember i couldnt even get 3.2 ghz stable on striker, and now lol, i get 3.4 STABLE! ;)
the max i have got so far was 3.6, not stable tho, but i didnt work up enough on voltages, so i think that with some more hand work i can achieve that for sure.
Indeed, i've been reading some posts of people who have had 4 SATA connectors dead, with long VGA placements, and yep, it seems that the SATA connectors have some rivality with the long VGA cards, my 8800 Ultra has killed nonetheless 4 of the 6 Sata entries on my board, and lol, almost killed 6 out of 6!
But anyways, this board is impressive, i shall post some bench results here later, and my settings aswell. I have been using so far 7 x 460 and one thing i have noticed is that my memory latencies are fairly high, never under 70 ns. In my striker, at same DDR frequencies, i had very low 50's ns, never more than 54 or 55. Is this normal? Yep Memory static read(i guess its this) is disabled under bios, and everything is set up correctly, but i just wondered it was kinda strange to get such high latencies.
Well, im happy with the board, pretty nice, great buy! My Striker has been replaced decently.
Folks, straight up.
I don't need dual lan. Is there any reason to get a Deluxe over a P5K-E?
BIOS 505
It seems that Asus relax some of the memory subtimings when they are set at AUTO with this release. TRFC, TRRD,TRTP, also write to precharge has all higher values (reads done with memset 3.3). Im getting worse bandwith with all dividers :shakes: . At 1:1 there is no change.
Maybe someone can confirm this.
edit: heres a pic.

P5K-E is not so good with Quad core Q6600:down:
Any big differences between 404 and 505?
Research before you spout some stupid comments. P5K-E is identical to the Deluxe minus 1 ethernet and simpler heatpipe, which make it a great priced board. You are talking about the P5K vanilla.
davewolfs, see my sig for the current OC since i had to run for 24-48 hours first to make sure the system is stable overall for folding. After this, I'll try higher :)
Awesome, so no distinguishable difference between the P5K Deluxe and P5K-E other then heat pips and a lan card that will never get used.
With regards to memory, what do you suggest. G.Skill HZ's or Crucial Ballistic 6400's?
I will be running 4GB.
I suggest the Crucial Balistix DDR2 1066 - PC8500, look what i just have got here with this babes:

just suicide run with 2,4V 5-5-5-18 1400Mhz, not stable
I'm using 1200Mhz 24/7 5-5-5-15@2.2V
I also forgot to say that the bundle is a bit thinner (2 SATA vs 4 for the Deluxe, no Q-connector and probably no heatpipe fan). My only gripe is the lack of SATA cables so I had to pick those from my XBX2.
I had good luck with the new Mushkin HP2-6400 4-4-4-12 (996576) which got released very recently. It ran perfectly fine on mine and Greg is awesome for helping me get the optimal timings on the P5K-E :)
Not sure what they changed with this bios but I have been F@H for two weeks with the same settings and had no problems, then I got the silly idea to update to 505 yesterday and it has stopped folding twice today which is usually associated with OC. Bumped the Vcore a notch and it seems to be working ok again. If it stops again I will go back to 503.
My timings seemed to have stayed the same but I am on a different divider and lower clock. Anyone know why memset is showing my Mem speed as 6FB-2 40? 4x1 Gb Ballisix 8500.
Just starting out with the P5K-Deluxe.
My e6400 cpu runs well with what I prefer for 24-7 voltage and temp wise at around 3.1ghz.
What would be better performance using 7x440 with 333 strap mem 1:1 and mem timings (4-4-4-12) or 8x385 with 266 strap mem 4:5 and mem timings (5-5-5-15) ?
Just for fun:D

Very weird, I can get over 500FSB on my Q6600 with my P5K-E but I lose two cores  ... has anyone experienced this and/or found a way to fix it? I reckon it's something to do with the board.
It comes up with Count: 2 on the POST screen too.

Is it posible to diable cores on the deluxe ?
Benchzowner did some volt readings on the P5K3 Deluxe, I think it should reflect to the P5K deluxe.
here are his findings:
BIOS Set to | BIOS Shows | Real Idle | Real Load
1.35V | 1.336Vs | 1.333Vs | 1.335V & 1.336V |
1.40V | 1.384Vs | 1.383Vs | 1.384V & 1.385V & 1.386V |
1.45V | 1.432V & 1.440V | 1.435V & 1.436V | 1.435V & 1.436V
BIOS Set | | Real Voltage |
1.80V | 1.867V
1.85V | 1.920V & 1.921V
1.90V | 1.953V & 1.954V
As u can see, is that the real volts are pretty close to what the bios shows( cpu-z). And that it is a sure thing the board is overvolting the Dimms
I am VERY VERY dissapointed in this board.
I recently sold my Commando to "upgrade" to the P5K Deluxe....
What a mistake that was.
I purchased one the other day and have a Q6600 G0, 4 x 1GB of Patriot PC2-9600 1200Mhz and it will not take them even close to 1200 Mhz with any divider. Hell I can barely get over 1000Mhz with the board.
My Commando would do 1200Mhz with 4GB!!
This board sucks...miss my Commando.
Interesting I to came from a commando, but find that the p5k has:-Quote:
BLHealthy4life
My Commando would do 1200Mhz with 4GB!!
a) better memory controller, can get more out my crucial 8500
b) More stable, commando used to take periodic dumps, with bios corruption a regular featyure.
c) p5k in general feels more soilid than commando.
think though, that there are suprising quality variations in boards sometimes that may give rise to our different impressions.
What bios are you using I must admit my favourite is still 0311.
luck:)
