stock cooling
Hey guys!
So I'm new for the most part (trolled a little while) to the XS forums. I've got some issues with my M2RS board and my new Reaper 1066 ram. I've been running this board since May of 08 with a X2 5000BE OC'ed to 3.3Ghz and some Muskin 800 ram, no problems. Well 2 weeks ago I picked up a 940BE and a 2x2Gig Reaper 1066 kit and dropped them in. Well after some trouble I've got the Reapers running at 800 no problems, however 1066 is just not stable no matter what I do. I tried both the 1/21 beta bios and also the 2/2 (which I'm running now). I've noticed that it takes a couple reboots and resets of the mem timings to get them to hold after I make some changes. However no matter what I can not get the ram stable at 1066. I've run the timings that OCZ says should work, at 1.9 thru 2.2 volts and nothing. It'll "seem" stable for a few minutes then crash no matter what.
I saw over on the OCZ forums that some have suggested flashing the SPD to OCZ Tony's Phenom SPD file however I also read that the newer Reaper used that file stock, so I'm not sure there.
I've seen several of you guys use the Reapers and really like them. I dont' think the sticks are bad, because they are stable at 800 and depending on the settings at 1066 crash at different times and yield different amounts of errors at different mem locations on Memtest.
From reading the entire thread, I'm leaning towards a bios issue, but I'm just not sure. This is not the first computer I've done. I've been building and tweaking comp's for years and I've never encountered this much trouble with getting ram setup and dialed in.
Any thoughts/help would be MUCH appriciated :)
Well just my 2 cents, but I untill I have an M2RS and before the DLA01 bios, I could not use my Geil Black Dragon at 1066, only at 800. After that it worked fine at 1066.
I now have reapers and they seem fine at 1066, although both sets didnt want to go over that, even tho I know they have the capability.
Im unsure if I have a crappy OCing Phenom or a crappy DFI (or bios). I bought the DFI becuase I thought it was supposed to be the best at OCing, but I havnt had much luck in that department. Im contemplating if in the future I buy an Asus or Gigabye?
you checked if timings are right when you entered windows?
i think it should work.
could you post your subtimings as well?

sorry to thread crash, but new bios for DK 790FXB M2RS|H
(I assume this is for 65nm and 45nm x4)

Major Reasons of Change:
1. Fixed Onboard LAN disappear.

Major Reasons of Change:
1. The BIOS added 65nm ACC code for AMD Phenom II 710 / 720 CPUs(45nm) only.
2. Fixed Onboard LAN disappear.
Noted : Please do not download the BIOS for use when users with 9XX series or other AMD 65nm series processor.

Hello! Do you know DFI's BIOS situation with M2RS/M2RSH? Will there be a new one out soon, official or beta?
check few posts up. 3/10 is out.

You will have to wait on that because I am waiting on my FLUKE DMM for voltage measurement to submit to D.F.I with cross reference with Oese on his end:) New Beta will be release when we do thorough testing and bugs have been worked out. I also have AM3 720 BE coming that I wish to test in 790FX-M2R as well and report on that situation to D.F.I as well.:yepp:
When next Official Bios comes for this Board it will Rock:clap::clap:;)
I have been very busy with allot of stuff with my business and also a complicated Build I am doing.
I have no clue on that I only have JR 790GX asked for samples for 790FXB Models but was told focus will be for up and coming AM3 Boards on my end.:)
@Pershoot - Apologies mate, I didn't see the Non-A versions of 2/24 or 3/10 :rolleyes:
Are they on the Beta download page for FXB?
All I am saying is that I have no personal means of collaborating on that Boards Bios because I do not have the Board.
No do not misinterpret that as being D.F.I will not Fix or is no longer supporting due to AM3 Release it merely means that I personally will have Focus on Up and Coming AM3 Platform.
they are working on an update for m2r at least too....
Well if they're working on M2R they should be doing the same to M2RS/M2RSH I guess:confused:
I did. It didn't seem to matter a whole lot stability wise. I started out with them disabled actually. The stock settings should be 5-5-5-15 20. As you can see in the previous post I'm running 5-5-5-18 23 because that seems to be a little more stable, at least it doesn't crash as fast.
I really am at my wits end with this thing :(
I feel like there is this one setting that I'm overlooking that will be the "magic bullet". I'm just not sure what it is....
really strange. just to be sure.. you tried with lower voltages (say 2,05v) too? powerchips dont like high voltage and probably the board is overvolting ab bit..
Same for me, but my situation was a simple fix :)
I am using a Phnom II 920 which kinda limits my clocking so i reached a HTT wall at 247 (could do 260+ with 20/1) nothing helped so I changed in BIOS under "CPU Features" CPU stepping. Mine was at P0, so changed it to P1 and voila it worked. I am not up to 260 HTT again and can run a few minutes under OCCT/LinX stable.
well, I reckon all of us with the M2R will just be waiting. gotta move with the products and what is new as it sells...
stuck at 3.7ghz (Best combination of fsb and cpu speed)
