Official GIGA P35-S3/DS3/DS3R/DS3P/DS4/DQ6 bios/info thread

I just have a question about the "vdrop" cause im interested DS3P / DS4,

from what i gather its the bios setting that isn't properly adjusted, like choosing 1.55 and mobo giving 1.5, but the actual Vdrop (the difference between idle and load voltage) is only around 0.02v with a dual core

em I right?

... also can someone post real vdrop with their quads please, (the difference between idle and load voltage), not the difference from a bios setting since i want it for a 24/7 machine not a benching rig

I also consider it too much for daily using, but check up temperature I can not, because CoreTemp shows not the truthful information for mine Q6600 G0, I nevertheless hope for the best, and I think that it not correct indications.
vdroop on my DS3 is 0.05v - i think it's normal.

Unfortunately there are no sensors to tell you. If they do not improve the bios on future versions, I will be going back to ASUS.

Everest ultimate beta version 4.10.1128.0 under motherboard/north bridge lists normal specs for north bridge voltage on DQ6 board as 1.25V, but it is not a sensor, so wont tell you what voltage you are actually at, and I have no way of knowing if even that is the accurate normal voltage.

You are really just stuck with knowing +.1V etc, and not knowing voltage. IF you are not stable at +.1 or +.2 on FSB or MCH, I doubt going higher will help since FSB is not that high, but that is just based on my overclock and few others, so could be wrong.

Is anyone using the new easytune pro with vistax64 that has a ati 2900xt. and a DQ6

I dont get the error on xp just on Vistax64 I have a ticket open with gigabyte they insist that it works if anyone is running vistax64 and the easytune pro that has the same videocard could you post if you get the same error. Ive stripped my video drivers out completely three times just to see if that was it and reinstalled the new easytune pro three times still same error.

Can anyone verify

Just ask or demand to have your suggestions forward to whoever or whatever team is in charge of updating the bios.

I just submitted my e-mail to Gigabyte requesting the above updates/additions.

OK, I just submitted my email with above suggestions, and added - user to be able to choose straps, and more control over memory controller than just standard, turbo, extreme.

Gigabyte RMA service is horrible! They've had my board since august 1st and now the store I bought it from has decided to replace the board themselves as Gigabyte is taking way to long to complete the procedure. The board is a P35-DS4.

Anyone else has bad experience with Gigabyte RMAs?

Mine was received by their rma department on 9/24, called yesterday for an eta. I was told it should be arriving within the next couple weeks.

I'll post back when it gets here.

What are your core temps? The chip will throttle once it gets too hot. You must be dumping massive heat at those volts.

swaaye, I'm pretty sure temp was not problem->watercooling, and case was outside(air temp ~10C)

I've never been able to install correctly the sound driver on my P35-DS3P under Windows 2003 Server x64 or XP Pro x64.

Is there any tip to do so ? I've tried many hotfix and drivers... :( Under XP SP2 32 bits it runs perfectly so it's not a mobo issue.


PD: I'm using F6 BIOS.

You have 4 gigs of RAM right? I have same and had major issues with my Audigy under XP x64 too. There seems to be driver issues with 4 gigs of RAM under those OSs.

Try taking some RAM out and see if it works.

Actually I can run 460Mhz with my Mushkin HP-6400 4GB kit at 1.9v, my P5B needed 2.1v and would be unstable over 450Mhz. This board is much better for my memory which is 2 x 2GB sticks.

I hate the retarded voltage options and vdroop.

misslabeling i mean 1.6 = 1.52 so you have to be sure to overvolt in the bios to get what you really want.

Is there any better bios for the P35 DS4 than the F4 bios?

Here's my E6400 with my P35-DQ6. Not bad at all, considering that all 4 RAM slots are populated. Here are my settings:
Bios vcore: 1.4V
Windows vcore idle: 1.376
WIndows vcore load: 1.36V
VMCH: +0.1V
vPCI-E: 0.1V
vFCB +0.1V
vDIMM +0.05V
Bios used: F6 (cant see any difference compared to the F5L)

The good thing about the MB is a tiny Vdroop. There's a noticeable improvement compared to my previous 965P-DQ6 rev 1.0. Also, momory clocking is better in this case. There's one thing that needs to be improved though - 4:5 multiplier doesn't work really well here. I can achieve DDR2 1066 with just 0.05V (1.87V) using the 2:3 and 5:6 ratios, however i need to pump a lot of volts in the NB, PCI-E and mems to do the same while using the 4:5 ratio.

There's yet one more thing that I think might be improved - the performance level set in the bios must be much higher than while using some other mobos. I had to set the performance level to 8 to be stable @FSB425MHz 5:6(perf level 7=no boot), while for a Foxconn P35 i could set perf level 5 and that mobo was running fine. I've tested 2xP35-DQ6 and 1xP35-DS4 and they all didn't work well with a low perf level.

There's also one thing that surprised me - raising vPCI-E by just a notch (+0.05v ->+0.01V) has caused my rig to be stable, while it wasn't while PCI-E was just +0.05V. Such a a tiny change made quite a big difference.

Horrible. And you jump from 1.6 to 1.8-2v vcore. Someone should be fired at Gigabyte for this stuff...
