-i think like u said there are lot of guys whose having this fsb wall, well if u read my post in the same page, i experienced something a bit weird if i may say, coz looser timings doesnt always give me more stability than the tighter one even with the same mhz. So i would suggest you to try to consentrate more on the timings and voltage (unstable if miy sticks gets too much volts)

-2nd maybe u can try one sticks at a time and see how it works.

-3rd i think different board will also act differently in some points. Mine could get to 480cpu fsb with sb voltage at 1,8 while auto in 470cpu fsb. Good luck

how come my friend has exactly the same Mobo+RAM combo , but he does not have any issues and his board goes 500MHz++
Tried 1 stick - nothing happenned
Tried tighter timings - nothing happenned
Tried lower voltages - nothing happenned :(

I am. I experience 'small' pauses while browsing through directories in windows explorer. Before I installed the sound drivers browsing was instantaneous.

I know its frustrating, and i dont mean to teach u how to overclock well, so here we go :
-check for overtightened mountings, heatsink contacts, on cpu, chipset etc
-use 1 mem stick and remove other unecessary peripheral (optical drives, extra hard drive etc)
-i hope u dont need to clear cmos anytime u pass that 430 fsb wall
-set multi to default, fsb at somewhere between 431-435 (or anywhere u can still see windows logo while booting up), set the fsb term and NB volt to max, cpu maybe around 1.35-1.4
-use spd timings @800 and spd volt
-boot into windows (i assume higher than 430 fsb u cannot boot or even post) and watch closely how far into windows it gets.
-if booting into windows failed, then its time to 1)adjust mem timings 2)adjust voltage. Do this each one of the time. And always look closely how far it get into windows. Maybe ull be able to identify what particular bios settings thats causing ur fsb wall. And after u get into windows, dont go straight benching. U should restart, go into bios and push the fsb higher until u find the next fsb wall

well, these are all logical explanation i can think of, gd luck

LET Them by SPD timings, set 2.25Vdimm

Recently, i am using 266SPD timings @476 MHz, just 2.15V in bios, 2.1V in windows.
But ofcourse these are G.skill, dont know what are yours .

-Sound: scratching, that must be the word. yep, from low to high volume (bass). As I said, the only way is turning down the volume a bit.
I am going to buy some new speakers (X-230 Logitech) , so if i experience the same problems/ bad sound, i ll consider that it is the onboard soundcard.

Or its time for Xtremefi soundcard :P

My bios settings=

Vcore=1.500V
Vfsb=1.3V
VNB=1.45v
Vdimm=2.15V
VSB=1.6
Vich=1.057

cpu settings= vanderpool, execute disable bit, Cput tm are enabled. Others disabled.

SPD timings @auto,
read control@ disable ( auto=disable ;) )

Will that do the trick :toast:

What you`re saying is that I won`t be able to bench my system @ max , just find middle-range settings until another wall @ ~470MHz ? :confused:
What for did I buy P5B Deluxe then selling P5B vanilla ? Just thrown ~$60 away :mad:
How come some get FSB520..530..540..550 out of it with systems similar to mine?

May be I should get other RAM. Corsair 6400C4 ...:rolleyes:

Hi everyone,:)

Hope to solve here my RAM OC issues on P5B Dlx so any kind help would be greatly welcome. My system specs are shown in my

signature.

First, I'd like to point out my BIOS settings:

PCI-E frequency - locked at 100 mhz
PCI clock at 33.33 mgh
C1E - disabled
MaxCPUID - disabled
CPUTM - enabled
PECI - disabled
Static read control - disabled
Execute disable bit - enabled
Spread spectrum - disabled
NB Vcore - 1.45V
SB Vcore - 1.6V
FSB Termination - 1.4V
Vcore - I set it depending on the CPU speed, for instance, it is Prime and TAT stable at 3400 mgh@1.45V set in BIOS.
CPU Multi lowered to 8

The problem is that my RAM is Prime unstable (in Large in-place FFTs test) and reports errors almost immediately even at the

ridiculous 415 Mgh@2.1V and the loosest possible timings set in BIOS. 2.25V did not help. On the other hand, I have had no issues

so far playing for 3-4 hours games like FEAR, CoJ, benchmarking (3DMarks, Super Pi 32M) or any other kind of applications.

I've been trying different voltage, timing and subtiming combinations (5-5-5-18(15)-42(25)-10(3)-10(11)-10(5)-25(14), including those

set by SPD, set BIOS by defalut and set afterwards manually the default (sub)timings suggested by MemSet. But that did not help

either. :mad:
BTW, when setting the timings by SPD and OC-ing FSB, the CPU-Z and Everest both report by some unknown reason 4-4-4-12.

Even tried FSB 380x9@760 mgh (1:1, 2.0V, timings set by SPD or manually) but Prime still reports RAM errors in 20-30 sec.

I cannot believe that my RAM is that crappy and have a comprehension that the solution lies in some subtiming or other BIOS setting I

have no clue of. Or might it be anything else?:confused:

The inherent 1x/16x PCI express lane width error.:mad:
This is problem many are experiencing :fact:

With everything auto in bios except fsb speed and memory voltage/latency speeds.
The pci express x16 lane is full speed at lower front side bus over clocks.

Using manual settings and increasing clocks toward upper limits of the board/chipsets design the X16 lane width defaults or more correctly stated errors at 1X lane width speed on any of the pci express video slots.
Also noted any tinkering with optimizations seems to scramble the brains of this motherboard...
Once you’ve achieved your maximum oc try to leave this setting alone and make sure its stable with Ortho’s …sis Sandra…and 3dmark bench software.

One of the signs of bus failure on the pci express lane is after reboot you get a video error beep yet are able to post without problems.

Again to correct this problem until Asus gets it fixed:dammit: I cleared cmos for ½ hour with the PSU unplugged.
Reset bios to manual in the advanced tab and raised the fsb with everything auto except chipset memory latency timings and memory voltage.
Unfortunately the maximum oc has suffered but @ 3.6 to 3.7 GHz I can live with it for awhile longer.

Prime doesnt means that it is a memory error. You d better test with memtest. Thats for memory stability.

hi guys
maybe one of you can help me out on reaching FSB 500....

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF....
pc boots into windows @fsb500 but when i start dualprime after 1 sec both stop, error msg "fatal error...rounding was 0,6 blabla" you know what i mean.

It took me some time to get it booting @500fsb into windows but now im stuck.
i tried many different settings, but couldnt fix it

atm i got fsb 450 running @1,24vcore(windows)
vdimm 2,1 (cellshock ddr 800 mem - micron chips)

i tried vcore up to 1,5v, but it didnt solve the prob, as it also booted with 1,4v (bios setting) but then freezed.
i simply cant get it going (im cooling with air, temps on fsb 500 idle windows are about 44 degrees core temp, should be fine.

I recognized that i got too less vcore when my vista/xp bootmanager pops up line for line....and not as a whole page.


could u imagine where the prob is?

Might be. But who could be the culprit and where to look then?
Just was priming again my RAM at 800 mgh (400x8), by SPD, Vdimm auto (4-4-4-12 according to CPU-Z), everything was OK during 1 hour or so, thought I might try to raise it a little to 840 mgh. No way, error after 3 minutes.:(

Then tried at 830 mgh 5-5-5-18-25-3-11-5-14 set in the BIOS, Vmem auto and then 2.0V - no go. How come that?:confused:

can anyone tell me why my videocard is running @ 1X PCIe and not 16x? The second slot runs fine @ 4x but everytime i move it back to the main slot it runs 1x. I've removed the chipset and videocard drivers with no luck. Even tried 2 differnet videocards. Any ideas?


Another issue i am having is that the power button on the computer doesn't shut down the computer when it is pressed it only shuts off the monitor. I couldn't find anything in the bios for this.

Guys i had several 975 boards and i decided to buy a 965 one..p5b dlx.Could you plz tell me should i have to format my raid 0 raptors?(if anyone has changed from 975 to 965).
I'd also like to now if there is any sign(serial or smth else) which identifies revc2 of the 965.

it's a common pb on P5B
you can try to (in order) :
set pcie @110MHz (or 96)
cool your nb and don't use high voltage on nb
set VSB at 1.7V
block your second peg @2X

well, in my case, after doing all that, it doesn't work :D
I'm not a lucky guy but solutions listed above worked for some people

edit: i just emailed asus support one more time about this problem even if i know that they don't care about it :/

Have everything set to auto at first.
Pciex set at auto at 3.3Ghz no higher than 105 and locked @ 100 at 3.6 GHz but only after auto settings get you started.

After thorough benching (prime, orthos, ect...) you can raise vcore slightly to stabilize system for 24/7.
Raising Northbridge volts slightly is ok.
Seems to run fine and no more errors.
Of course if you want extreme clocks who cares about the sudden 1X bug.;)
This is just my suggestion and others have different cures for this glitch.
I thought I would offer my own.

maybe try 4-4-4-12-6-42-10-10-10-10 memory remap feature disable vcore 1.35, vdimm one notch higher from default, fsb term voltage 1.3-1.45

OR, u can try with different mem sticks w/ the same or maybe higher fsb rate

by the way i think its fine if there's no problem when u already using some real apps (games, 3dmark, super pi32) i think its ok if u fail in prime, but maybe u can run memtest
