i know FUGGER was using it as a 24/7 system but he was using a x6800 and i'm pretty sure he wasn't going over 400.
I do have an observation from my experience that may be helpful. The vmch, esp. with stock heatsink, only helped up to ~1.88v. After 1.9ish what ever I was trying to do got more difficult i.e. oc'ing. 2.0v is way to high. Heat I think was too much. CL3 for me is almost impossible, except for quite low speeds. It takes some vdimm, probably more than man. ratings, and some vcore to get stable. Pretty obvious stuff I know. Very basic, cooling balanced with volts. The board is probably different from the Asus type some may be used to.Quote:

Thats what i mean, its obvious this is a finicky board, unless you are one who tries everything then you probably are going to be able to plug in and run like you do on asus boards.

I think most of the people we see disapointed in this board, including myself, were unhappy with its inability to run stress benchmarks over 4 hours @ 400 or greater FSB. I myself was only able to get it to do so for 4 hours. There really aren't enough memory settings in the bios to blame ram timings. Just about any micron d9 can do 800mhz @2.2v. Some issues could be cpu related, but I myself tried my 6400 on the board @ 400FSB and it failed in a few hours. That was the final straw for me because that same chip is 8 hours orthos stable @ 450FSB on the P5B using the exact same modules. I've got 3 kits of ram that can do ddr2-1000 @2.2v 24hours memtest without errors on the P5W which is very picky on ram. When I compared ram settings using memset of the Abit & Asus board boards were setting the timings the same.
I'm no expert, but I'm better than casual, & I do like the board, I just don't see enough effort from Abit through bios release's to correct issuse's with the board like we see from Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte. I've not tried Gigabyte but I have tried Asus & MSI. Combine this with no useable pci slot in sli configurations and well you understand. Also I removed my heatpipe and installed aftermarket cooling on north & south bridge, as well a heatsinks on the voltage regulators. I'm an Abit fan. I'll be back for the IN9 32Max. But for now I'm jumping on the 680i band wagon and this board will fund those efforts:)

Sorry if this is obvious, but have you tried dropping the multilplier to 8?, Tried running one stick of RAM? and running 1:1?
The board would still seem to have issues with a high clocked 4:5 divider and overclocking 4mb chips.

.....returning in topic my board is like shimmishim's board, also i, i've tried nearly all...raise vcore, mch, vdimm and vfsb...played with timings and alpha but isn't changed nothing and the problem is only with 1/1 divider because with bus 400 and 4/5 divider with ram @500 works fine....unfortunately i don't have ram that hold the 500mhz :D
with 1/1 divider Small for CPU and Large's orthos test works normally, Blend test doesn't work....OCCT idem, only CPU test works and CPU&RAM test doesn't work :)

i have even changed the stock NB cooler with a swiftech copper chipset cooler and it didn't help.
I've been slightly irritated by some of the posts in this thread lately because i feel like the best way we can help each other is for people to post their problems or tips and let others weigh in on their experiences with the board.
But there just seems to be alot of whining and bashing going on and it isnt helping anything. I guess i'd be unhappy too if my board wouldnt do 400fsb but my aw9d-max did 400fsb stable out of the box no mods. Im still not completely happy with the board, i've got some ddr-1000 cas4 that wont run at that speed 2:3 or 4:5 but im optimistic that it'll get better with bios updates.
In comparison to other 975x boards we arent that worse off. There are so many unhappy with the P5W DH and even with the success some are having with the asus 975x boards there are still people in those threads complaining about fsb constraints. The abit aw9d-max should be in no way compared to the p5b deluxe or any other P965 board they are just completely different animals and if 500fsb and a 1333 strap is what you wanted you could have just bought that board.
I've been able to get pretty stable up to about 434 fsb. I can run small tfts for a couple hours there. I cant blend much over 415 but as others have stated even without orthos the board isnt unstable.
Im pretty much running 2.0 mch 24/7. I switched the nb cooler for a $20 thermaltake nb cooler and since then it seems i have gained some additional stability. I can run suicides up to 4ghz so thats where i think its my cpu rather than my board being the roadblock.
This board is ideally for someone with a E6700 or X6800 because it would give you enough room to be about 4.2ghz orthos stable depending on your cooling. Maybe im a little overly optomistic, but i feel we're 1 or 2 bios updates away from a 1333 strap and some more memory compatibility improvements. 680i is looking decent but then the performance clock for clock isnt on par with 975x and then there are people that are already hitting fsb walls or holes.

I did benching with my new vc. 3d 01 am3 and Render with 9x460, and 03 05 and 06 with 458x9. That is as much gaming as I do. (7900gtx's at zzf for 299 w/rebate).
A question for people who run this board on 400+FSB.
Do you use air or water cooling?
