Just a little update on my overclock progress:
I've lapped both my heatsink and cpu with good results. Idle temp has gone down a couple of degrees and load temps and few more too....although the whole process took a lot longer than I expected it to. I probably spent about 4 hours from start to finish doing it but it was worth it and it's all a learning process.
Also, I've finally managed to get a 3.6GHz overclock but i'm a little concerned that i'm risking things with too much voltage (1.5375v in BIOS, 1.520 in cpu-z). Idle temps range from 33C to 37C but they hit 70C under load. It's Prim95 stable for 30 mins....I haven't tested it for any longer as I think it would fail at some point. Is this pushing things too far? The Intel spec sheet says 1.5v is the 'max' for an E6600 and temps should be under 60C.
I haven't got a Thermalright Ultra 120 as yet as i'm not 100% sure it will fit my case (Enermax Black Knight CS527). Would it make a noticeable difference anyway? If it's a tight squeeze into the case, would that be counter-productive to airflow? I'm currently using a Zalman CNPS9500 which is pretty good but if i'm able to lower temps with another heatsink, i'd be more than happy to give it a shot. Ultimately, i'd like a good water cooling kit but finances are a little tight so i'm trying to do things to a budget but I may just put some cash aside for a while so I can invest in a kit and a specialist case.
They recalled 1102 for some reason. I've been using it without detriment but I does anyone know what was wrong with it?
So would people definitely say that 0602 is the best bios so far for the Q6600?
What kinda voltages/bios settings are people using for 450MHz+?
If they have recalled it...now its back both in the FTP and on the main site.
is it worth cahanging to? or is it just trouble?
yea, for me 0602 is the one for a 65nm quad. Any newer bios is not stable over 3.6Ghz, will BSOD during Prime or randomly reboot on me. No issues with 0602 however. I'm running 400 x 9 @ 1.34v and 425 x 9 @ 1.44v both prime stable. NB at 1.45v, everything else lowest possible selection.
Ok, been playing around and been crossflashing the board to the P5K Premium bios... Now before I let it boot into Windows and have XP re-detect everything, what bios would people say is better, the P5K-E or the Premium bios? Latest versions or both (1102 and 0702 respectively...)?
Does anyone have any templates for 475MHz with a Q6600 on this board? I just can't seem to push it past 450MHz with this Q6600 and it's doing my head in!!!
I just performed the vDroop mod, now I get 1.256v with 1.275v set in the bios but it doesn't move at all!!! I used conductive ink in the end, after comparing it to the pencil and it made no difference but the mod doesn't wear out over time (well, no risk of it).
Why does this board have such a bad vDroop?
With voltage damper (load line calibration) mine wasn't too bad. I have since disabled it and pencil modded it instead.
I have both done, and 1.256v real for 1.275v bios is the closest I can get. This is a rev1 P5K-E though, old style box, does that make a difference?
Recently upgraded to Core 2 Duo E7300 from Pentium D 935, and saw nice improvements all round, especially power and cooling. Overclocking stable at 1.080vCore, insane. Currently 333x10 at 1.312vCore stable, on BIOS 1102.
What kind of voltages would be safe, considering I get about 28C idle, 35C load with this TRUE 120mm cooler?

for more info.
i got bios reset, and can't find my old settings, what is that site where all options in bios are explained for P5K-E?
i have no idea of the site you ask of but a little tip for everyone who does not live in their bios.
When you get your machine set up how you like it and all is great then go back into bios and use your digi-cam to take pics of all your settings
Then these issues will not arise in the future.

Hey all, I don't post here but lurk often. Great thread and I have a question.
I have a p5k-e/wifi and an e8400. This morning (after trying to read the whole thread after a 12 hour night shift) I read about the voltage bugs and all so I checked my PLL voltage and it's @ 1.76v when in auto or set at 1.5v. I'm running bios 1004 and was wondering if any of the later bios fixed the problem.
I have set my CPU PLL to 1.6 as suggested and it dropped to 1.65v.
Thanks, Baz
AFAIK it affects all bios up to and including 1006 and later. From reading this thread it seems to be hit and miss which boards have it, but all the p5k's seem to have it.
I noticed a weird stuttering in the BIOS after updating to 1102, it only seemed to happen when my USB hub was connected, so I turned it off and it seemed to not lag after that.. any ideas what could cause this, i do have USB legacy support disabled.
Not sure about the stuttering but I lose 1.4v Northbridge volts with bios 1102, and back on 0602 it works fine again.
I get absolutely no boot, ever. if I set 1.4v.
I think i killed my mobo....
i try to turn it on there's no POST no nothing...
the screen doesnt even getting on...
it's just black all the fans are on for about 5 seconds and then it's shuts down and turn it self on again over over over...until i pull the plug...
any ides?
