So correct me if I'm wrong, but by "launch" you guys talking about the day we can buy them or the day the NDA is lifted and AMD officially announces the card? Getting a little confused as to when I can expect to see these these hit shelves.
the AF quality of the 5800 is almost too good to be true :p: it seems to be perfect. i hope this is true!
the most annoying level of AF quality was that of the g70... playing with 16xAF on my 7800gt was no fun at all. the texture flickering was outstanding. upgrading to a 4850 was such a salvation for my eyes. texture flickering is very rare respectively hardly noticeable on the r700. i've never had the chance to do a direct comparison between r700 and g80/g90/gt200 though, so i can't say anything about that.
Could be a worthy replacement for my HD4870 512MB... I need more video memory, I'm starting to lack space for the textures and shadows all the games use!! I might aim for the 2GB, just to be safe:D
AF seems top notch, performance seems incredible and it's launching soon! :D
I thought Microsoft was bringing in standard requirements for AA and AF settings in DX11, basically a image on one card should be identical to the MS rasteriser version or fail WHQL.
Does anyone else remember that, or am I just getting old?
No, there are a few articles out there, which all show atis flicker much stronger and when you compare them, you'll also see it.
Here's a good article from a german site:

If the 2GB HD5870 is priced fairly and does perform very well then... I think it will be a worthy replacement for a GTX280 (if and when my system is fully up and running).
Couple these graphics cards with a Corei7/i9 FTW :)

The ATI Radeon HD 5870 just showed up in our price comparison engine and not altogether surprisingly it was online shop Salland Automatisering that was the first to have a price available. The new graphics card which rumour has it is due for release next week, can be had for a mere 320 euro's.
The world's first DirectX 11 part supposedly will be released next week, although availability on launch is as ever far from certain. Although previously leaked presentation slides showed a price of 400 dollars, maximum, a European price so far was not available. The next best thing was a pervasive "350 euro's" rumour, but Salland's pre-order price is quite a bit lower at € 319,99 - a lot cheaper than many expected. Of course this is the 1GB GDDR5 edition of the card, we will have to wait a bit for the 2GB version and its accompanying price.
WOW so happy uk 5870 1gb should be around £290~ at the max as UK seems to get a bit better prices them SOME of the EU! :) so only a tad more then I payed for my 4870 at launch...
lame though I get my £250 course grant in about 4 weeks time D= like £40 out! lol
Launch date is less than a week from now and still no official pricing yet? 320 euros so we can expect $300-$350 in US? I might get one to replace the X2, probably not see a huge improvement but well :D
We pay 19% VAT in the Netherlands (where Salland is located).
400 USD to Euro is 271,50 euros.
271.5 * 1.19 = 323 euro incl. VAT
Now they actually do ofcourse make a little profit on it and that makes this a bad calculation.
Here the stores have to pay 250 euro to get them and then sell them with 19% VAT & profit for themselves.
250 * 1.19 = 297,50, then add margings/profits to that, which became 320 euros at Salland.
250 euro to USD is ~370 USD.... Now the USD - Euro ratio changes a lot lately so this isn't solid proof, but if you add a 5% profit to the store to that it would be 370 * 1.05 is ~388,50 USD.
Does that mean it can't be lower? No, but if it would be more than $350 this would probably be why.
LOL, that video made me laugh.
ATI's HD 5870 pre-order show up
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15559/1/
At least two retail stores are pre-ordering the 58xx series here in the Philippines, albeit with Oct. 13 release date.:shrug:
Prices are at 299 and 399.
you forget where there being shipped from is closer to US also they pay less import fees etc.. then the EU does for them
but yeah major electronics, even places like newegg/ebuyer etc.. theres normally around only 3% markup on computer hardware, hence you have to aim BIG with computer hardware or just be awesome customer service so that they dont mind paying a few $/£/€ here and there for piece of mind =)
infact If I ever purchase in bulk (without vat) items from say china/thailand/thaiwan(sp?) it's always safe to assume that instead of adding the 15% vat(UK) on to it its more likely to be between 20~25% safe to assume 22.5 in the middle, so say add on the diff (7.5%) to your calculations you would get 26.5% take that off of the €320 = €252 which would be around about $375 (THEN we have to assume that places like newegg are going to be buying in completely diff league to small euro sites (we need one huge one that delivers all over EU for cheap.) and they will then get discount off that (normally max they will lop off the price is 10% assuming they buy enough for that... then its 338 $$$ + 3% profit for each = $348...
my predicition in my head (cos im bored) = $348 loooolllllllllllllllll
Even then thats launch/preorder inflated price, so i think itll be between 325~335 :) with the 2gb being $400 (also keeps in the rule that for comp hardware its mostly 1~1 ratio

First US pre-order, way overpriced!
Inflated pre-order pricing++, they want 400 for a 4890 for example.Quote:

On Tweakers we had a discussion related to this around 10 september and I was playing around with some numbers a bit back then.
4890 newegg was 195 USD, NL 180 euro = 92.3%
4870 newegg was 150 USD, NL 135 euro = 90%
4850 newegg was 100 USD, NL 90 euro = 90%
==========================
90%
HD5850 1GB $299 => €269,10
HD5870 1GB $349 => €314,10
HD5870 2GB $399 => €359,10
==========================
92.3%
HD5850 1GB $299 => €275,97
HD5870 1GB $349 => €322,13 (319,99 @ Salland) ----> This is what I expect for the US ($349)
HD5870 2GB $399 => €368,28
==========================
95%
HD5850 1GB $299 => €284,05
HD5870 1GB $349 => €331,55
HD5870 2GB $399 => €379,05
Gotta love speculating :).
