Same experience here. I couldn't get 400x9 stable no matter what i did until I raised the MCH to 1.6V. Small FFT would run flawlessly but I'd get random BSODs and Blend would just reboot my computer.Quote:

This is probably a stupid question, but how does go about setting the 1333 FSB strap from the default 1066? Is this done under the memory settings?
I need some help about ICH7R and the Marvell controller.
I have 3 HDs connected to the ICH7R. Today I added 2 more HD and I connect them to the Marvell controller. BIOS version is 2395.
As long as there's HD connected to the Marvell Controller, my computer won't boot into Windows XP (Boot drive connected to ICH7R). It will display a black screen with a blanking cursor after post screen. (Lower right corner EB -> 0 -> blanking cursor on top left)
But if I connect the boot drive to the Marvell controller, it boots into Windows without problem.
Also it would not boot a XP setup disc when non boot drives are connected to the Marvell controller. It will also stuck at the blanking cursor.
Anyone else have similar problem/experience when there's non boot drive connected to the Marvell controller then computer won't boot into XP / XP CD?
Do you guys have any solution for this problem? Will try BIOS 2431 tomorrow, hope it will fix this problem.
Yes, change the reference frequency to 333(1333strap) in memory settings page.Quote:

In the BIOS Boot menu, what order are the drives in? Are there any RAID arrays defined? Is the ICH7 set to IDE, RAID or AHCI?Quote:

Just hangs and beeps. Do you guys remove your DVD / CD from the boot order ? Is this my problem ? I have DVD, Floppy, and SATA hard drive in my boot order.

No RAID arrays defined. ICH7 mode set to IDE. In boot menu, the boot drive is the first in the HD boot list.Quote:

this is on 1333 strap.
OK, this sounds familiar. I think I resolved the problem by switching to AHCI instead of IDE. The problem is that you have to reinstall Windows, use F6 and the RAID driver diskette (it also has the AHCI drivers on it). The good news is that if you run the setup and install over the existing windows install, everything stays intact.Quote:

If you wait a few hours, I can test the change from IDE to AHCI on one of my machines and let you know how it goes.
Cant do 3.8 stable with this board seens like this board doesnt like high fsb, impossible to do 4ghz (i did it with the 680I also did 3.8) cant do nothing close to 3.7 with this BX2 tryed 1066 and 1333 strap , with 1333 strap boot up to windows but very unstable, with 1066 post and go 1/2 windows and crash, no matter what vcore i put , im thinking on abit 680I , think im going to sell this board , sorry guys but i like high FSB, 401 is not enought for mi brain :) if anyone want to buy a bx2 PM me please
Thanks, I will try it after I move the data on the harddrive to somewhere.Quote:

AHCI allows NCQ and Hot Plug for the ICH7. I updated after installing Windows in IDE mode by mistake. One thing I noticed is that, with the standard EIDE interface disabled, I got a BSOD. I never tried to boot with it disabled before doing the below before so don't know if that caused that particular issue. Doesn't matter to me because My DVD burner is EIDE so I need it enabled anyway.Quote:

At any case I would recommend using Ghost or Acronis to image before doing any of this (good practice anyways).
I did this switch as follows (because I messed up and forgot to install in AHCI mode). (note that the REAL step 1 was to image my drive to a USB external before starting!!!) NOTE: this is with the BIOS set to what I installed as (IDE)
1. In device manager under "IDE/ATAPI controllers" I selected "Intel(R) 82801G SATA controller (I believe that was the device name, if not exact it's close), Right clicked and selected "update driver"
2. Told it not to search the Internet - Next
3. Selected "Install from a list or specific location" - Next
4. Select "Don't search I will choose a driver to install" - Next
5. Inserted Intel Raid Drivers floppy and selected "Have Disk"
6. Browsed to A: and selected the INF, then selected "Intel(R) 82801 GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller" (I think there are 2 AHCI and 2 RAID mode drivers listed, ensure you select the AHCI).
7. Let it do it's thing till it was done the IMMEDIATELY restarted going IMMEDIATELY (before Windows began to boot) into BIOS and selected AHCI mode.
8 Booted right up with the correct driver and no issues not previously noted (the PATA EIDE disabled issue).

I asked multiple times if someone did high fsb with a 6600 at 9x multi and got no response. So its not a board i would recommend for most unless they didnt want to run too much over 3.6ghz. The newer week cpus are just that much better and if you have sufficient cooling your going to need more than 450fsb max.
I just can't get anywhere near > 3.5 GHz without complete instability. It must be my BX2's memory controller, because the instability stems from memory errors (windows memtest fails, ORTHOS can pass Small FFTs but never Large or Blend).Quote:

Alright guys, need some help. I tried to change the strap on my xbx2 and it didn't boot. I don't have the slightest idea on how to clear the cmos on this thing. I've tried 1 stick of ram, I've took out the battery for a couple minutes, and played with the bios jumper, but nothing. my 8800gtx fan just runs at full speed. I appreciate any help

If it fails to boot when just trying a high overclock without changing straps then usually just turning th psu off for 20 seconds fixes it.
Yeah, physically unplugging the PSU for 20 seconds (sometimes in conjunction with removing a stick of RAM) often does the trick for me.Quote:

I just got an RMA from tigerdirect. I'm facing a similar question; get another BX2 or another board entirely (perhaps a commando).Quote:
