Thanks for the solution sir.
Can you upload it somewhere so we can try it? Cheers

carepolice your setup is holding for now, the warmest core doesnt go over 60 now and prime crashed after 5 mins, cpu pll was 1.52 and fsb termination 1.14
Now I'm certain that afudos is generic so you should be able to use the one I do. Put it here and it's version 1.19 I believe :)
It seems the 1611 needs a special engineering afudos file. The guys at the Asus forum have found it.

*** SOLUTION FOUND FOR P5Q BIOS DOWNGRADE ***
hey Mark,
I did try clearing the CMOS a dozen times all different ways (bios, afudos /pcn, jumper/battery etc) to no avail.
I tried the afudos that came on the CD, which complained about the bios being too old (1406). I tried v2.07 which failed with a message of "main BIOS checksum is bad". For anybody who needs to downgrade in the future, this link is the key - this SPECIFIC afudos binary, some sort of engineering version that will allow downgrades (see last post):
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/24...downgrade-bios
also found it afterwards in a user post here:
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us
Why can't asus give this information out themselves instead of users wasting time trying to figure out what's wrong? I can say that my next mainboard will not be an asus.
Hope this helps someone.Quote:
Having restored the 1406 bios as described above, I am able to use EZ Flash to downgrade to earlier bioses. (I just tried this because I'm not sure that my 1406 restore was completely successful.) It seems likely that there is something in 1611 that prevents the normal bios tools (EZ Flash and standard AFUDOS variants) from doing downgrades.
-=Mark=-
Just to add the one I use and attached above will let me downgrade on the p5wdh from the latest bios way back to the early ones.
Nice find lads, bit less risky then my suggestion, will grab that afudos too :) thx
how to flash older bios versions:
I had a same problem, and i had that problem two years ago with P5B deluxe, it wont update older bioses
Solution:
I try it and it works, downgraded bios form 1611 to 1406 without problems.
Use older versions of Asus Update utility. It is windows update utilty and (i know) lots of people dosent like to flash in Win but its the only precedure i know.
http://rapidshare.com/files/172784334/AsusUpdt61002.zip
If you have Win64bit use this on your own resposibility. I know of cuple of cases (all on 64bit) that Asus Update utility messesup the bios.
Precedure is same .. in drop menu coose "options", and check "bios downgradeable", then choose file and flash
ok vcore was at 1.18125 and everything else as u suggested,
now some 10 mins into the test the rig became unresponsive, my computer took forever to open and it never did and firefox just turned whitish and i couldnt press anything, i couldnt even turn off prime and it was running for more than 15 mins, i had to reset manually,
i should point out this system unsresponsive thing has been bothering me for 2 days now even at default 2.83 clock, since ive changed the sata mode to ahci following a registry hack, ill try to set sata mode to ide again and see if i take care of it, ive also taken out the jumper which limited the hdd to 1.5 gbit operation, i dont think the lack of jumper causes this
update:
hacked registry again and changed sata mode to Enhanced IDE again in bios, prime 95 ran for 10 mins and crashed wow:ROTF:
just found this:
@Grfinger (in Asus P5Q deluxe thread):
Make your usb drive bootable and load AFUDOS use the /pbnc /n switches and it will flash
Q9450 guys, I need your help. I've been following all of the stable settings posted and I believe I am VERY close to stability, but would like some advice on what to adjust to:
1) Get Prime 95 Blend stable
2) Lower my vcore a bit
I also want to note that I did passed Intel Burn Test (Linpack) with maximum stress with 10 passes, but still failed Prime 95 blend (only CPU ID 3) around 5-7 minutes.
When testing with only small FFTs for pure CPU stability in Prime 95 with lower vcore voltage, CPU ID 3 is always the one that fails.
I'm guessing this where I'll need to do some GTL adjustments.

I just got my RMA replacement P5Q-Deluxe back. It's a brand new board form the supplier. The serial number starts with 89, does anyone have a board as new, and does it have an A3 chipset?
This just stems from the conversation in the P5Q-E thread where it was suggested that boards later than 88 may have an A3 chipset.
I will pull my M2F out and test it anyway, but I'd just like to know if anyone has any idea if it might be A3 or not before I go and pull everything apart.
ive been running this config today and it managed to keep prime from crashing for 20 mins

then i changed cpu margin enhancement to compatible and tested 3 times, first test ran for 2 mins before crashing , 2nd ran 14 mins & crashed, 3rd ran for like 5 mins and restarted the rig
i changed cpu margin to performance and it ran for like 25-30 mins and restarted the rig, any ideas how to proceed?
What Bios do you guys recommend for the P5Q Deluxe? i got a E8400 and 2x2 Gskill PI Black Edition..
Did some tests yesterday. Found a result that pleased me. Nothing too extreme, but I liked the low voltage of vtt and nb with this fsb.

@ jeeka - Oh great, can you please tell me the serial number from the label on the box?
Label looks like this:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=528
@ Godmyster - I have not used the board in months, but I'd try 1406 looks to be pretty good but there may be a later one that's good too. The last one I used was 1201.
i used 1406 and now im using 1611 and i think theyre both great and stable if u can make them stable lol:ROTF:
but you guys are using the Mbios right? the modded ones, not the ones from Asus..
i used 1406 and now im using 1611 and i think theyre both great and stable if u can make them stable lol:ROTF:
btw theyre both from Asus
What about the Mbios from here are they better then the ones from Asus?
Ket's biosses did absolutely nothing for my mobo/ram combinations...no better OC'ing , pull ins worked here, ... other users had better experiences with them mostly due to the enhanced memory table on the lower end models
If you have no issues stick with the retail Asus ones, 1406 is the better one out there... if you seem to have ram incompatabilities you can always give his biosses a shot...
Can I ask if anyone here uses the P5Q Deluxe in combination with OCZ FlexXLC? (PC9200 in particular).
So I won't have compatibility problems :)
What happened to the asus bios 1611, and I think their even a newer one 1633 or something like that. Now on the Asus webpage the latest bios is 1501? Did they pull the 1611 and 1633 for something???
hmmm ur right, 1406 is the latest one for P5Q dlx, they pulled the 1611

Mine's an A3. Not sure if you can tell without running CPU-Z
Thanks for doing that for me. I didnt think about people using your serial, you can delete all but the first 2 letters anyway. Mine also starts with '89' so maybe I do have an A3.
Cheers, I think it's worth pulling my system apart and plugging in my new board to see if I have one or not.
after using so many release bioses and many beta bioses in the between (versions 06xx, 07xx, 08xx, 10xx, 11xx, 12xx, 13xx, 14xx) 1406 is only bios version i consider the best one ever. it took a long while for asus to have a good bios version for this board model. as seeing asus had removed beta 1611 from the server again i'll probably stick with 1406 untill my board is retired. btw, never consider using any third party bios myself.
Wait bios 1611 was a beta bios? I thought it wsa final, what's weird when I updated to that bios on weds of last week it said final and nothing about being beta...
Sadly my board is an A2 revision.
I decided to test something out while I had the P5Q-D in, and I just stuck a BIOS chip from my Maximus II Formula in my P5Q-Deluxe, and it booted up as a M2F.
I was hoping that the P5Q-D had temp & voltage sensors that the M2F has, but were not read by the P5Q-D BIOS, but sadly that does not seem to be the case, it reads every voltage except the vcore as -3.34v, and all the temps (except cpu temp) come up as N/A.
Oh well it was worth a try.
Just a quick 32M run with the deluxe.

When use a True Image recover disk with my P5Q deluxe system I get a no disks found message. I have disabled xpress gate. My 3 SATA disks are set as ide with a non boot disk (D) set as dynamic. Bios is 1406.
A Windows XP CD sees C: drive ( A seagate 500).
True Image 11 (latest snap drivers and version) works fine once XP is running.
Acronis says for me to by their workstation version.
What do I need to do to get the True Image 11 CD to work?
Joel
you may want to tryy the true Image forums. I had a similar problem and ended up using two hard drives to accomplish this. You should also download the newest version of True Image as it had a lot of problems at release. With the new version you can remake a rescue CD.
good luck
-=Mark=-
I had same problem and did what mark did, download the latest update (im build 8101), and with your express gate disabled for the autoreboot, you can image to and from seperate drives
(Im in IDE mode too)
Your experience gave me some hope.
So...
When I enable AHCI the CD version does see the disks and appears to normally. However, I then need to return to IDE to boot my system properly. Any idea on what is happening and what would need to do to avoid the switch of AHCI/IDE in the bios?
I couldnt get ACHI mode to stick for the life of me (this was prior to the 1406 bios) and I got fed up reloading vistax64 all the time so just stuck with IDE mode.
Maybe one of the guys could do a "how to" load op system with ACHI and which drivers work, but I've given up lol
Before that internet update build of true image I could make image files but not restore the system from an image
Perhaps this is as much of a bios issue as an Acronis issue.
When I boot in the non AHCI mode it does see am ESATA drive and my network. If I boot with the ESATA drive turned off it tells me no hard drives. And of course if I boot with AHCI turned on all seems normal on the Acronis Resecue CD-but I must revert back to non ACHC to boot the system.
Joel
I had a huge problem with Imaging with Acronis as well. I was running RAID 0 and the only way it would work was to build a special rescue CD with the drivers on it. Acronis won't put special drivers on the CD and is why you guys are having trouble with AHCI mode because the rescue CD is treating it as ide mode and restoring as ide mode.
If you check the Acronis forums you should be able to find thee method of doing this or someone to help you. I was offered help, but Version 11 was new and buggy. I gave up and bought an extra hard drive to use as a restore method instead of a cd. I just picked up a cheapo $50 hard drive. It's extra cost is worth the peace of mind. lol
Good luck
-=Mark=-
if u cant boot with ahci enabled try this setting in registry before going to bios and switching to ahci mode:
1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
go to bios, change to sata ahci mode and restart
Hi everyone!
I tried to OC the RAM in P5Q, but I did'nt got much success. I tried with such modules, that ran in my buddys mobo on 1200Mhz with 2,2V, but I dont even hit 1150 with any voltage. I tried with 2,3V as well, but it seems to be over at 1100, so i think I set something false in BIOS. I dont know every options here well, because it's a lot of them. Could you write me a template wich options and how to set, to get the highest clock out of my RAM-s?
It's really easy. Just set vdimm, choose FSB you want to run giving you the desired ram speed and that's it.
EDIT - look back one page I did a SPI32M bench at DDR2-1300 MHz on 2.24 vdimm.
Try Ket's modified biosses Little man, ask first in the Mthread for the better bios for your mobo... think you are bios limited here... he added extra ram compatability (found on the high end series)
Thread is here : Ket's mBios thread
Thnx for the moded BIOS thread, I will try it, but in the last case, caus I dont wanna flash my BIOSto the heavens, if there are some problems with the issue, my whole mobo could die. I meant that the limit by 1100 is because of something incorrect setting, there's a lot of options which I dont understand, like static read control, dram read training, mem OC charger, AI clock twister, and in transaction booster settings these pull in phases, az CPU/ NB clock skew as well, they may influence the OC of the memos. I left them on auto, but I think the correct setting may help the break the 1100 wall, or may they not?
Did a bit more SPI32M testing. This board is pretty nice. For the 542 FSB/650 MHz runs I used 50ps delay on the ram channels to aid stability, and it only required 2.24v (DMM Measured). The NB hits 47*C under full load which is quite good since I don't directly actively cool it.

it most likely could be your ram, even though it used to be overclocked more than 1100mhz on a different board, but it simply won't be able to run at the ram speed on this board.
otherwise, you should get ddr1197-1200 at 375/400/450/500FSB at the least for both 2x1GB ram kit and the board would also do the same with 4x1GB of ram.
this was the ram overclocking ability on the p5q-d that i used to experience with it.
mem oc charger should be set to enable, however, you will need to try it out, you may have to disable this option.
the rest of setting in p5q-d's bios, this includes dram clock skew and memory timing settings never seemed to help me much in overclocking ram.
Big thanx to SXS112 for posting these :

What program do you guys recommend to control fan speeds? The AI Suite software does not do a good job.
Quick question... I took that Asus cooler off some heatsink up top as it really doesnt even get warm to the touch without it. However, that fan was plugged into the CPU fan header and now on reboot, I have to press F1 to get past this. Is there a way around this without using that loud fan?
I missed that setting... I will check it out when I get home.. Thanks!
Try Speedfan, or get a 5 1/4 bay controller.
1702 BIOS for P5Q-D seems to work fine.
i couldn't run this Gskill 8GB ram kit at 4:5 on this CPU FSB before as it gets some memtest errors no matter how much volts i put into NB, RAM and the rest.

Step
I was wondering what those express gates are...
I mean this motherboard has 2 expresgates. But can you use these as normal sata gate's? Like installing 2harddrives on them whitout working whit the asus software???
And about the bios 1702 is it worth installing? Because wel i aint finding them on the asus site :p :p
I installed new 1702 BIOS on my P5Q Deluxe, and now every time i booting i see this message http://pic.ipicture.ru/uploads/08121...2agbTfel69.jpg Even if before I set settings on Default i see this message. Wtf? Help me please. Before this i had 1406 bios and it was working perfectly! :(
do the remove battery / jumper reset routine - there exact description in the manual, then flash to previous version that worked
Battery problem ?!
dunno what i've done, but looks like now everething (instead of bios downgrade) is working fine. :D Thanks u guys! And thanks GOD! :D
Whoa, 1702 already :D
Same problem here. It seems to fail if you want to tweak the BIOS right away. But if you first boot with stock settings, reboot and then try again, that seems to work.
Also be careful when loading OC profiles. Mine set vCORE to over 1,6V (E5200)!
I dont know whats wrong here... i cant even get it to go 445, what am i doing wrong? i need some help here with some OC, apreciate it.

Thanks
seem some ppl working fine with 1702/1703 but many ppl have problems
for me used 1611, from 1306 to 1611 (1406 wont work for me)
For all lads that have problems downgrading the bios plz look at this post ; either you take the hard way (swap bios chips and hotflash ) or download that AFUDOS version which seems to work nicely
Link here : HOW TO DOWNGRADE ASUS BIOS
Not sure what they've done to the 1702 BIOS but my system now boots like half faster. I just fire it up, makes like 2 sweeps of progress bar and i already see the Vista orb glowing. Anyone else noticed this or is it just a random display?
Is it possible that system now works better with all 4 memory slots filled?
Oh, also how come they made such a huge version jump?
for whatever reason, it seems that i have to use more NB volts than i was using in 1406 version.
however, 1702 may be improved on with some of a better RAM compatibility it has shown some improvment with my hardwares at least,
so as of now, i like this bios version better. it's about time asus released a new bios like this for this board model.
http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/5...8211319ab5.png
use the HP bootable usb tool
the full explenation is in the thread mate. Just read it and carefully follow the instructions. Your USB stick will load the flash program automatically (if ya set the bios ofcourse to boot from the stick )
Works like a charm, too bad he only has the util for Asus mobo's...
you don't have to go that way ...
just download this version of asusupdate (flash in windows) http://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...sUpdt61002.zip
!Attention!
uninstall previous version of asusupdate and run "ccleaner" you can download here http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
than you were able to flash back to an old bios.... if you not run ccleaner asusupdate will show you the same red error message that you can't downgrade...
I did downgrade with that asusupdate version obove last night ;) and it worked perfectly
I have a crossfire HD4870 setup on my board: great GPU performance in gaming with the CPU overclock too, but I struggled with the heat and noise in normal day to day computing
I replaced the stock coolers with Accerlero Twin Turbos (which fit a variety of GPUs). Much better coolers: less noise and much lower temps/noise in normal computing

This is just a headsup that they work on the P5Q board in a Xfire config, just fit
Couple of snaps here, had to mod an Antec P182 case slightly to get the lower cooler mounted - cut a hole
Yes there is duct tape there to stop cable fray on the edges :p:

Loving the board, not going to move from 1406 bios unless there is something compelling released
Nice looking setup mac_69 - can we see some 3D benchies? :D
Q9300 460x7.5, 8GB (4x2GB) at 5:6 DDR2-1100, bios set vDimm 1.8v, vMCH 1.36v, moderate and PL8.
4x Prime95's running 1 thread each, with a lot of RAM being used and tested...

i was never able to run this 8GB ram set at the clock speed with vDimm 1.9v and 1.30-1.46v vMCH,
before 1702 version of bios the 8GB will only capable to do 4:5 DDR2-1100 at 1.80-1.86v (bios) and at 440FSB.
bios 1702.
have sold my E8600 Q820A606 at the wrong time:rolleyes:
run right now with a QX6850,I again have bought a E8600 :)
NEW volt set in bios 1702
CPU VID: ??? what makes it good for:confused:
Some old benches in my sig
New coolers are great as I do normal computing 99% of the time, but I had read on the web and found out first hand that its not possible to overclock GPUs much with these quieter fans (compared to stock)
Got almost the same result with default clocks though, just under 20K

I've forgotten my vantage key
here whit the QX6850 8x500FSB bios 1702 Watercooling
had little trouble with the last test in 06,whit 513FSB:(
Not too bad. Have you tried settings CPU GTL Refs to 0.67x or higher? There's a possibility that you could go a little higher or lower your cvore at the current speed with some GTL tweaking.
Nice work, 500 & 513 FSB on a quad is good to see. What vNB did that require?
ty CryptiK
vNB 1.56v ;)
