VF900 vs Accelero X2

For the record, the voltage regulators on X1900 are under the red heatsink. They are the tiny black squares. A high density ball grid array chip, super compact. Insane to me but whatever. The same chip was used on the DFI NF2 Infinity Vdimm circuit. Hottest little bugger ever...OUCH!

The bigger black squares are the aircore inductors in the voltage regluator circuit. They are hot because they sit next to those little ovens from hell.

There is someone experimenting with a new custom made heatsink to replace the stock red one, he has posted results on OCforums, and it looks like a good addon, especially if he makes a copper one available.

I rigged up a 80mm fan inplace of the stock ATI cooler fan assembly, stillused the white part of the fan shroud. Keeps temps to 70C max with a Delta 80mm running 2700rpm, but its only about 1/2 as loud as stock... which is still too friggin loud.

Next thing, Ill remove the white fan shroud, spread out the copper fins of the stock cooler, and rig the fan to blow on that instead. See if it makes a big difference.

Wondering on the VF900 is pulling the stock fan off, and using a 120mm fan blowing over the cooler would yeild bettwe results?

So these heatsinks are OK for the X1800XT? You've got me scared. I ordered a VF900-Cu yesterday before seeing this thread.

The VF700-Cu isn't too great for the X1800XT, but it works.

I felt I've wasted enough money with heatsinks from Zalman.

With the VF700, core V @ stock 1.350v, ram at 2.097v, with the Artifact scanner on for 10 minutes my temps are.

Antec Super Lanboy case, w/top blowhole and an antec 120mm fan wedged between rear of card and hdd bays to cool VREG.

The temp's arent too bad, I have this heatsink effin TIGHT DOWN on the card, with AS Ceramique. When I get my VF900 I'm gonna use AS5, and I'm going to tighten it down equally as hard. I have a feeling the VF900 will work better as it has FOUR mounting points rather than just two.

I have 2x coolermaster silent LED fans (front back)... so there isnt too much airflow but a nice breeze, rather.

I have a nice Sunon 120MMx38MM fan I cld put in the rear, but at this moment there is already more exhaust than intake, so there'd be no use... plus its so loud you cant hear yourself think.

Arctic X2 with X1800XT, stock volts same clocks. I run it @ 100% and its silent. 120mm fan over vreg as wel.

Ye. What case? Nice temps, btw. Same voltages? 1.350v Core, 2.097v RAM?

I hope I get similar temps with a VF900-Cu or I'll cry lol.

Stock volts BUT xcse forgot to mention that side panel is not on, that might have helped a little....... :D (lian-li PC60)

Ahh. That case has better airflow, AND your case panel was off ;).

What are your thoughts on the VF900 temperatures in relation to the vRegulator temperatures? I think they are helping each other in getting hot, which might be the reason why the VF900 is not performing the way it should. Just my reasoning for my cooling problems tho.

hey men~ this review result is just another sudhian review and standard mis-leading promotion technique of Zalman, they test the VF900Cu in max fan speed and get the temp after finished the test. But for ATI stock and AC accelero, they just using 50% fan fan speed and get the max temp during the test.

ATI stock cooler(5060RPM) at X1900XT Full load: 69-70C
AcceleroX2(2100RPM) at X1900XT Full load: 65-66C
VF900Cu(2600RPM) at X1900XT Full load:75-76C

You can check here, more and more victims are complaining their VF900Cu and they also get 75-80C withVF900Cu@X1900XT(X). Most of people were basing those zalman lying result to choose their cooler.

So, those commerical site rubblish reviews are craps, I just believe end customer's comment and review.

FYI: I'm keep using the AcceleroX2, now the max temp is still 64-65C at load. The temp is still not good enough because I expect the temp should lower than 60C.
But if you looking for cheap HSF, Accelero is your good choice, just $29, while VF900Cu is $50 but the performance is....

Yea, on an X1800XL which is pretty cool running when compared to a much higher clocked, higher voltaged X1900XTX.

They run cool even compared to an X1800XT :O

I've heard the Accelero X2 has issues too, with some DFI boards it dumpst all it's heat on the Northbridge,it is alleged to have killed a motherboard.

Please stop using the VF900 in SLI or Crossfire.

Those Czech are writing it down wrongly. Also due to construction X2 blows hot air towards to motherboard, which makes it quite a problem. As my test showed (VF-700Cu vs. X2), with closed case (120 mm fan blowing hot air out, but it is on top of the videocard!) both coolers temps were almost the same 81..83 C. As soon as I opened case door, X2 dropped to ~68 C, Zalman just few degrees ~80 C. Card was little OC'ed and ATI tool artifact scanner was working, both ventilators were having 100% speed. I added 120 mm 1200 rpm fan and X2 temps went back 67..68 C with closed case. Even a little airflow would help, just as much to drive the hot air out of videocard area. I lowered even the fan speed via fan mate, but temp. did change. Then I had room temp approx. 28 C! Now with normal conditions (room temp. 23..25 C) my card maxed after 3 h Battlefield 2 ~66 C core. vRegulator stays under ~68 C.

As I know that AcceleroX2 is using temp-fan speed control by ATI VGA card, it will never reach 2000RPM unless the GPU temp reach 100C.
I was getting 84C@AcceleroX2 at load before, it is because of the temp-fan control limit the fan speed at 1200RPM. Then I use my Riva tuner V2.0 Rc15.8 and unlock the support for X1900, and fix the speed at 100%(2100RPM) and get the final temp at 64-65 in close case test without any additional fan.
My another friend installed Arctic Fan 12(gift of Accelero promotion in Taiwan) in Exhaust location and get 61C from his X1900XT in 3D marks 06.
You can try my suggestion to get better temp with you AcceleroX2:)

I must say the vf900 for me was a bust. I have a very well ventilated case. I installed the vf900 and my loads temps were 15 degrees hotter than when using the stock cooler at 100% fan. I took it to a friend at a machine shop in case it was concave and need to be lapped. It is flat, it just doesn't cool very good for me. I guess I will try the v1-ultra next as I don't like the way the accelero 2 vents the air down on to the motherboard and chipset.

I'm not convinced the V-1 Ultra is such a good choice. Here's what someone wrote over at SPCR:

I don't have an X1900XTX to try it on, but I think you're pushing your luck trying to cool it quietly with a V1Ultra. I have one on my X850XT PE. The GPU gets up to ~70C with a Nexus 80mm at 7volts where it's quiet. If the numbers above are correct, you'd be almost doubling the watts. 850 = ~70 watts, 1900 = ~135 watts. You can add a second fan to the V1Ultra, but it will take up no less than two extra slots if you do. I suspect using two fans would be the only chance of keeping the 1900 cool with the V1Ultra. But then again, they'd be two quiet fans. Best of luck. And please let us know how whatever you decide to try works out.

Of course this is with a silent fan, but X1900XTX is a lot hotter. Especially when OC'd. I'm 99% I'll try out the X2.

I tried the x2 but I have a dfi lp nf4 ultra d and my chipset temps increased quite a bit so I can imagine what kind of temps my pci sata raid card were doing. I yanked. For now I am going with the stock fan at 100%.

That would be a ridiculous claim.
the amount of heat that comes off the X2 is barely enough to melt a icecube, let alone create enough heat to kill hardware.

this kinda mindless hearsay may work on noob forums, but don't bring it around here please...

every heatsinks since the begining of time has blown air down, onto the heatsinks... which them fans out over the board.
CPU's put off way more heat then videocards do, yet no one complains that a Zalman 7700 is blowing air downward... :stick:

the X2 doesn't create enough heat to do anything more then make a slightly warm breeze at best....

While the amount of heat comes from X2 is barely enough to melt an icecube(I don't think so as any room temperature will melt an icecube;) of course I suppose human being prefer above-zero temperature;) ), it DOES blow hot air toward motherboard, which MAY cause some problems for some already high temperatured components.

Killing a motherboard is quite some exaggeration, but It will pose some problems and more so with poorly ventilated case.

While I don't think it will kill a motherboard, I have a very well ventilated case and my chipset temp went up 7 degrees.

unfortunatley I have not managed to track down the forum that the initial post was made on (confirming moboard death).

I think the motherboard temp problem by Accelero is not really a big issue, because my Abit motherboard chipset temp just increase 0.6C only.
Of course, I also installed a Arctic fan 9 Exhaust(Becasue my case dosen't have mounting hole for 12cm) by the suggestion of my friends. The GPU temp further reduced 2C to 62-63C and the system temp reduced 4C too :);
So, the Ventailization of case is very important especially you are using High End CARD like 7800GTX/7900GTX/X1800XT/X1900XT.
The tranditional ATI silencer cannot cool the Voltage regulator, so it doesn't work for X1800/X1900 card since the temp of Voltage regulator is also very hot.
I know that AC also luached a new VGA cooler but just exclusive to Asus only. It looks quite good.

With me card under full load the chipset becomes about 5 degrees warmer with X2 compared to stock HSF in me case, nothing to worry about imho.

I wish HIS would sell the iceq3 cooler for the x1900xt separate from the card as well as with it. It is exactly what I would like to have.
