I hope games show a bigger increase with the extra pixel processing power than 3DMark05 is showing. 1300 or so odd points over the X1800XT isn't huge. Not that I'm complaining, points are points and if the cards debute for cheap than I'm all for it. I guess I was just hoping for a larger gain with all the hype about R580's capabilities.
i would like to see some comparisons of the g71 and r580 with the settings in 3dmark05 jacked and then see the scores, now thats where the power is

does anyone else think that this is a really CRAPPy looking heatsink? Check the aluminum fins on that thing. Thick, widely spaced and really short. It looks to me like they've done everything possible to reduce surface area on the cooler. I really hope that won't be the final reference design, b/c that just looks poor. :shakes:

Upper image is X1900XT. Another one is X1800XT. Check out the MOSFETs(or what they`re called) count
Same cooler on both. X1800XT has 5 mosfet on rev10, 6 mosfet on rev20. X1900XT(X) 7 mosfets.

The MOSFETS are under the red heatsink and the number of MOSFETs don't nessesary tell how many stages there are. (Motherboards have anything from 1 to 4 per stage)Quote:

well after the rare x800xtpe and the nonexistant x1800xtpe its not hard to see why they would rename the flagship card. I remember people say'n the x800xtpe(paper edition) and such things. Its all marketing.
Still cracks me up that i got my x800pro vivo modded to x800xtpe 24/7 like a week after the x800 launch for $350 iirc while people were still waiting for x800xtpe's to come in stock.
Well I am sold on selling my current X1800XT flashed PE card. Going to get the XTX and know I got the best right off the bat. Any OC on top of that will just be a bonus. I am heavily cpu bound anyways on my current and crappy winchester cpu.
FX-60 + X1900XT 3dmark05 numbers added.
13k on air looks like the possible max for this on air.
With watercooling we could see 13.5k.
With an FX-60, we could see 14.5k stock for crossfire, and 16k on air...which is a very exciting prospect indeed.
