Maybe because it has the best layout by far + design + 4 phase power reg + abundant feature set + superiour stability + the abundence of ram bios settings enabling the user to gain the most from there components :fact:

Sorry about that Mike yes I did not read carefully. I wish I knew wth is going on around here. I want answers really fast before I go and put extreme cooling on 4k worth of equipment.

Mike the board you had the FX55 on with no overclock. Was any chip overclocked on that specific expert before? how far did you go.

Before i buy this mobo (SLI-DR Expert), the first CPU i put on it was the FX-55!!

I'm definately glad that most of the time my mobos were the cause of my problems. That being said, I DID manage to kill one of the best FX55 Claws I've ever seen on my initial boot with a DFI-Ultra D. The cpu god so hot, I could have sworn that my IHS had shifted when I pulled the chip out. Other than that, I'm glad my next 9 DFI's didn't kill any more cpu's. Mobo's are a dime a dozen. Godly cpu's are priceless.

I know another CPU would not be the same as that golden one, but... ¿are these killed CPUs RMAble? (I mean if AMD would accept them)

The point is that maybe if they have no physical damage... It's the same as with my winnie 3500+. I gave him 2.03v (DICE), and after one week it just died. It didn't burn up, just died, stopped working. Would AMD accept it? It doesn't have any damage. :)
(But I can't send it cuz it's got no IHS :D :D)

Ok guys....more bad news.....!!

I tested the 2GB kit Patriot mems in another mobo, and they are also dead in the Expert at same time of the FX!!! :(

Not the done thing, YOU killed the CPU by overvolting, to RMA it is just plain dishonest that ends up costing every other AMD user money :nono:

I don't know if this is related but it seems reasonable to me. I recently setup a budget DFI combo and had something interesting happen.

Working with a DAGF - X2 3800 combo

A BIOS flash was necessary to support the X2. I used Winflash but did not choose to reset CMOS. When the machine re-booted after the flash it shut down within 5 seconds. Well I was looking around and noticed that the CPU heatsink was blazing hot. Obviously overheat protection had happened.

So here's my theory. Alot of guys with dead stuff were swapping CPU's. Could it be that a CMOS reset between swaps might have prevented these killoffs?

I've swapped a lotta times different CPUs (venice 3200+, winnie 3500+ and sandy 3700+) in both my DFI nF3 939 and my nF4 Ultra-D and nothing happened. (No reset before the swap).
That's possible, but maybe only with Expert. And that is not good...

Ya I have too and never had a problem before this, and it was not on an Expert either. Anyway it's just a thought, I think that 3800 is lucky to be alive.

ghz, you used a single core cpu to flash the bios, i guess it was a 130nm chip with 1.5v? or you had set the vcore to 1.5v or probably even higher, and when you threw in the x2 it was running at that high vcore wich caused the overheat and the board to shut down :)

I think that is just unluck! this weak is realy bad... at first my SLI-D killed 3200+ Venice (3,3Ghz benchable under Vapo LS, 3,5Ghz benchable under DI & 3,7Ghz suicide creanshot under DI) an now just a hour ago the bord killed my Opteron 146 (3Ghz on water @ stock V)... i thinks its just unlucky mounth!

But there isnt nothing realy beter then DFI for now...:nono:

Uh, no saaya it was a totally new system build, it had never seen another CPU.

ALL BIOS settings were default when it was flashed. I wouldn't have posted this if it was something that stupid :rolleyes:

has anyone even bothered taking a DMM or osciliscope to the vouts of the CPU socket, DIMMs, PCI-E, etc? to check for any odd fluctuations?
Sure, this stuff sucks, but when you OC, you void your warranty and forfeit your right to banana.

Was planning to but the person with mobo didn't show up today oh well :p I am going to have to check all suceptible points when he brings it in (whenever that might be)

didnt you say a bios flash was necessary to get the board working with an x2?
so what did you flash the board with ? the x2? so it worked well enough to flash a new bios but the second core didnt work, or what? hmmm
and your sure the bios was set to default when you flashed it?
and the bios you flashed, was it from somebody else who sent it to you who maybe saved it himself, or was it from dfi?

The boards stock BIOS does not support dual core, the BIOS flash gains X2 support. If you are not familiar with what this means I will try to explain.

The CPU works fine with the older BIOS and there is no problem with the CPU or any of it's cores. However the newer BIOS that supports dual core allows Plug & Play to automatically install the SMP driver. The board was flashed with the same X2 3800 (The only CPU this board has ever seen) with defaults. The BIOS came directly from DFI site.

didnt play with a dual core yet, no need to be a sm4rt4ss about it though ;)
k, so you didnt use another cpu to flash hmmmm
so what happened, you flashed the bios, the system rebooted, and then what?
did the motiro stay black or go to standby?
or did you enter bios and were checking the settings and then the system shut down?

its probably done and dusted, but 3 LEDs remaining on definately refers to RAM test failure.
I have encountered this many a time with buggy stick i have.
