DH has tested overclocking on XT.

Alright, I've made up my mind after seeing the DH OCing....I'm getting an X1800XT :slobber:
Anybody wanna pay MSRP for my GTX? :D
Great Info !!! 685/1790 ON AIR !!! :slobber:Quote:

For those of us with 6800/7800 watercooling, this is even more attractive....just slap it on, no leaktesting or adapter changing or anything. Looks like this puppy with it's adjustable voltages could also use a little water loving. :D
Now we need the damn software (and the card in retail--but that's soon enough and a definite) to get it past CCC levels.

i want one.
no, actually make that 2.
Bah you guys will end up doing better than that :D Jumper the fan to high speed or put a water block on it and then see what it does. With the fan on high speed I've never had one do less than 700 on the engine and around 1800-1860 on memory. Stock volts.

If we have to wait for someone to 'figure it out' I'm not going to like that very much.
:)
right now the only oc util which works with the cards is the utility from ati, which is not available to the general public .. sapphire trixx does not work with these cards either
i am working on adding support to atitool but it's a major pain ..
yes - and that large MOSFET sink is that size for a reason I would imagine. :)Quote:

Crotale....there's more to OCing than stock cooling numbers ;)
Let's just say that the OC attainable from an XT on watercooling with any software mod should be much greater than a GTX's OC on watercoolign with only software mods. My GTX runs cool to the touch yet won't scrape an inch past 526MHz on watercooling (sub 40C load temps mean nothing when the clocks won't go up!) without vmods yet the XT could probably get past 800 with the software vmods. Not only that but the memory also seems to OC VERY well!
Then there's DICE, which only some GTXs can withstand.
Then there's cascade, then there's LN2--look for the XT to really flourish here while my GTX would probably pop a blood vessel even thinking about -196C temps.
I look forward to seeing more from these cards as more and more people get them...if they do turn out to be OCing duds, then shame on me for making predictions.
Hey Wizzard nice to see you :woot:Quote:

Anyway I hope you can make ATI Tool work and also unlock the software voltage control, that would be awsome. It seems ATI won't be any help on this which is just silly.
Both, GPU and memory controller are programmable so it's possible to create a tool to raise the GPU and memory voltages via software. Since ATI is dropping Control Panel from the future driver releases, it would be great to see a 3rd party program with these overclocking features. I talked with Terry Makedon and he said that he actually hopes someone will do a 3rd party CP and is even ready to give some support on that (maybe some advice to overclocking features also?).
The programs I'm using are ATI internal and cannot be shared with public. Sorry about that. I understand it's not fair towards other enthusiastic overclockers but please consider my overclocks as a reference and help to the overclocking community. In this case I'm more interested of figuring out the limits of R520 than bragging with top 3dmark05 score. I hope my early findings and information helps other people when they get the cards and tools to play with.
When I started overclocking back in 1998 there were really little support from manufacturers towards overclockers. Abit and Asus were propably the first to bring some nice features like raising the FSB and voltages on motherboard. Now after 7 years even graphics card companies are interested of overclocking so it's definitely better than nothing! Even Intel has now overclocking features on their desktop motherboards!
Stay tuned for a quest to 1 GHz / 1 GHz attempt next week with R520!
Try to contact wizzard from www.techpowerup.com, author of ATI-Tool, maybe he can do it?! :)Quote:

Dont count on it. 6800 and 7800 cards did not get smaller eigher. I whant to buy a XI800 XL. But i'm afraid that i get a core withe the so called softground problems and that newer XL cards that will be comming a month later will me clocking a 100 MHz more on the core.Quote:

Hmmm...apparently, unless ATI clears this new core vs old core thing, its all up in the air.Quote:

grayskull -> how do you explain going from 625/750 to 685/895 boosts performance over 25% in doom3 :slobber: with only a 10% GPU oc... :slobber:Quote:

This kind of thing pleases us and I forsee a mass overclocking orgy...... :fact:
