People would rather keep their current card since there is absolutely nothing wrong with it then to part with it for the same thing again. Not everyone out there is ready to redo an entire system over night with new gfx cards, 24 pin psus etc.
How far is the release date? Days, weeks, months..??
Yeah, well nVidia did the same. It's an excellent marketing choice really. It makes the enthusiats buy ANOTHER high end card, and a motherboard at the same time. If they let the enthusiast go off with their "old" AGP, then the lower class enthusiast will buy a lower ranged card, i.e. less money for makers, as the top range cards bear a premium. Marketing, pure and simple. Rather make the enthusiast pay the premium he is willing to pay multiple times, and leave the lower range "gamer" buy the "old" stuff. Of course the PSU is another matter altogether, it will probably make me BLEED :(Quote:

The MSI has no overclocking options at all (not even CPU Host Frequency), there's a review at OCWorkBench and the manual is up too.
Those people who have shelled out such excessive funds for a GPU have been aware of their options. In other words, it has been no secret that the Radeon Xpress chipset would be PCI-e only. The point here is actually very simple: If you care to be an enthusiast and purchase premium parts the likes of the average consumer will never see, then you hold a self obligation to do as much research as possible to ensure that your purchases do not stand in the way of future-proofness and/or smart upgrades. It would be one thing if such information was not available to the end-user; however, almost anyone with a knack for knowledge can easily frequent public forums and review sites for the pertinent information they need. So with all due respect, people who pay $500 for a card then regret that decision at a later time have nobody but themselves to blame.Quote:

Info i can tell you is i have run 250X5LDT just like the ATI rep has. My 3800+ clocked to just shy of 2.7GHZ which was the same as the DFI. 300+ 1:1 is pretty easy also.
I can't quote what other brands of ram clock like as you would guess but I hope my posts give a general idea of what is to come.

This shouldn't be the case at all.
Alright, now I 'm a relative newb to OC'ing compared to a lot of ppl here, but I noticed something about the screen posted by Grayskull. Under the Sandra System Summary, Video system section, it lists 2 video adapters, both X850s. Is this just how Sandra reports things, or is this a hint of something else(ATi's version of SLI)?
I probably am just dumb, but the thought of dual ATi cards get me all giddy as I prefer ATi cards to nVidia.
*EDIT* - Here's a link to the screenie from grayskull I'm talking about.

That's how sandra reports it. In mine it says the same thing but 9800pro and 9800pro secondary.

Under the video cards section, you'll find a very compelling argument as to why PCI-e is a necessary move.

Hi, thanks for the link. I don't doubt that down the road it is definately better just right now it isn't what it is all made out to be and it may be some time before it actually is.
Because HTT is not what defines performance.Quote:

grayskull thanks for the screenshot, whats the max htt you can get stable???
i might wait for this chipset and not nf4 & dfi.
hope they come out soon, and lots of it
A round of all benchies would be cool :) kind of like a mini review
Things are moving to fast for that...as soon as we post they improve something ;)Quote:

well 2H 05 would be the 2nd half of 2005, meaning July or later. I assume you meant Q2 05, which is April-June. It looks to me that the release may come a bit sooner than that, although its still probably a month or two off if bigtoe has a very early board.
It all looks very promising, though. :)
Ya competition is good for US :) more solid chipsets plz....
