You're probably not getting good contact with the GPU, mine is running under load around 60 degrees after a volt mod under a Zalman VF700, and was only reaching 65 with stock cooling before the mod.Quote:

I got my MSI X800XL and it runs 3DMK2003(2005) tests at 450/1100 but FarCry only 425/540.Anything higher and game hungs.
You're welcome. It seems like the QC on these is crap, as some of them, like your's overheat, but mine with stock cooling is almost as good as with a good third party cooler. It's probably an industry-wide issue.Quote:

Yeah, and they're selling them for the same price that newegg is. At least Newegg is no longer charging $380, though.Quote:

nah, original 9700 series did that too.
So are you saying ATi has limited them?
if you mean by the processes not used on the wafer that are for X800/X850, then sure.
But no, ATI did not "limit" them.
My point is if the core is technologically limited so near its default numbers then there must be also cards not working at default 400mhz level.Atitool finds artifacts at 400-410mhz core on my card at different memory clocks(not in summer heat yet) but 3dmk runs visible clear 450/560(FarCry 420/540).Sure there must be other weak cards and if artifacts are below 400mhz can i return the card?
Do you have a new enough version of atitool? Older versions incorrectly detect errors, or your PSU might be topping out...
hmm and I was thinking of getting an XL to OC it! this suxx
Just to check, the sapphire X800XL have sensor of temperature, right?
so the x800xt is gunna be the better overclocker then?
im building a new rig and want to go ati this time ive got some cash to spare which is gunna be the most future-proof card?
Ed
The XT will probably be a better OCer. My XL will only do 490/565 for 24/7 use, but I run it up to 510/630 for benching. There is a small amount of artifacting at those speeds. I don't know I have to drop the mem so far to make the artifacting go away.
That's with 1.6v on the core and 2.2v(I think) on the mem.
I got 80C/110C until I took everything off and redid it. Yes the entire card was extremely hot when I pulled it off. Now its 42/70.Quote:

ive got an Asus x800xl and the core clocks up to 460 from 398 no problems but the

Thanks, Ed
btw I'm clocking more like 450 and 565 on chilled air. Like 20C Ambient Air in my case
I would got the X800Pro VIVO !! i have overclocked my X800 pro no VIVO from 475 core 450 mem to 522mhz core and 504 men.Quote:
