Urghhh Just bought the frigging FX-53...
Oh well... probably will grab a weenie and see how it does now once another person who had problem can confirm the bios is the devil :)
Kind of doubtful though that I will gain much more than what I have on newcastle core atm though. 1mb vs new core... gotta be interesting to compare clock to clock.
Anyone got a link to download 1.4B1 bios?

Well, I got through the entire win2k install after flashing to the 1.4 bios. Really looked like it would be ok. Had been up for about an hour with evap temps reading -45-47c.
However, once I shut down to put in my 9800xt and nic it wouldn't start again. Had to reset cmos. Now we're back to the same cat 'n' mouse game with bios saving. Just a black screen when I try to save. Thought it might be the 9800 so I pulled it out and put back the geforec2. Still no go.
So the new bios is working for people then with cold boot issues.. hmm. I wanna fire mine up now heh. I was going to earlier but i simply haven't had the time yet to do so.. bleh work sucks :)
well I ain't tempted to try my Neo2 - it's going to be sold. I have almost completely ironed out all of my Mach2/ Winny issues with my A8V and the system is running pretty nicely - was burning it in last night at 2500/250 (1:1) with Crucial Ballistix.
IMHO the A8V with 1009.002 bios is the way to go for decent Winny/ Freon action, since the Neo is way too buggy for me and i got sick of the non-booting crap.
I also discovered that the XP installation problems I has were nothing to do with any cold issues - i was trying to install an IDE drive but as soon as i tried a native sATA drive and the F6 method XP installed first time.
Here are my tips for getting the A8V running properly
- Use the 1009.002 bios
- do NOT use the VIA sATA controller - this is not locked and will seriously inhibit your clock, use the Promise PCI locked controller
- Set Vcore to 1.7v (gives the memory controller enough juice)
- Disable T1 (yeah i know but the A8V seems incapable of running this correctly)
- Set Vmem, V-Link and Aagp voltages to max
- use the black memory slots, not the blue ones
- Set HTT multi to 600
- If using Ballistix or TCCD put a fan on the ram, even on the lkow Vmem of the A8V my sticks were burning hot
With all the above i was able to get 250fsb stable 1:1 wheras before i was getting BSOD's at 220fsb.
I think the A8V is quite decent and a worthy NF4 stopgap

Well guys, I like my Abit AV8-3rdeye too much to dump it, so I guess it's best at this point to take an opinion poll:
FX-55 or strained SOI Newcastle?
Ignore the price diff, I'll pay it, whatever, I'm a nut :toast: The real question is, will I get much more out of the FX-55? It's guaranteed strained silicon-on-insulator, 1MB cache, and unlocked multipliers (if there are any other benefits to the FX-55, let me know) . . .
I don't see dual core being a possibility until late '05 at the earliest, and the dual videocard boards will use the same proc/memory, so I'm only out $850 - what I can get for selling the 3200+ winnie (any takers? please PM me - I'm matt9669 on eBay as well) for at least a year, as far as the proc goes. Dual video will be a must for me so I don't care how much it costs, I am SO there :rolleyes:
So, anywho, I am very seriously contemplating the FX-55 and if only for the sheer joy of near-record 3DMark numbers, I would buy it, but I'm open for opinions. And I need to sell my 3200+ (did I mention that already?) and anyone who'll pay good money for a proc that I can tell you EXACTLY how far it goes on modest air, contact me!!
I'll get crasy with the Gigabyte K8NS Ultra and the xp3500 winnie.
Will hope a beta bios will fix the temp bug but when :confused:
Is it 100% with the msi ? If yes i will order that.

Don't know about Ratax but the new bios certainly doesn't fix 100% of the problems on my neo2. I left it running while at work yesterday since it was formatting the raid. Came home and it was still running. Again tried to put in my 9800 and it absolutely will not regain the signal after a bios save. Of course I put the 9800 back with my nf7/2100+ and it works fine.
Another thing I noticed with the 9800 in is that the system occasionally just suddenly shuts down while posting. I'm wondering if the reported problems with Powerstream and neo2 is coming into play as well.
i'm testing 2 Winnies with my waterchiller and Gigabyte K8NSNXP 939.
No probs.
The waterchiller goes below -20ºc?
As for the msi, anyone other then Ratax tried it with the new bios? Is if is certain that the bios solves the subzero problem, i'll get one.

Now i have flashed the F6 Bios from K8NSNXP 939 on my K8NS Ultra 939.
Under water it works but with evap temps reading -45c not.
