Hmm, my 3.0c+P4C800 is starting to look more and more like a server...

Seriously though, an upgrade from my current (unfortunately new) rig would be on par performance-wise with the last upgrade I made from a 2.4b+BH7...

an A64 ALWAYS benefits from taking away the IHS ;)
there will me a smaller difference, like you said, but without IHS, you removed one more metal-layer between DIE and Cooler ;)

Since it's a smaller surface area, the quality of thermal interface on the IHS -> CORE becomes even more important. A good copper base right up to that tiny core is the way to go :) The heat dissipation has not increased, but the heat density jumped up tremendously. Hence, it's much more important to cool the die more directly.

In fact, similar problem persist on A8V as well from one of forum member. Can you give us some insight to how you circumvented all this problem other than getting 130nm parts for time being?

For me , I gotta prob with previous power, PC P& C 510 DX, the symptom is like no matter what, it just can boot the LS. So i unplug the black cable from control PCB of LS then plug in again, then motherboard boot then LS boot..then both automatically shut down after 5~10 seconds. Therefore, I power off the PSU and all devices I have, also clear CMOS. It was booting good, but only one a while, after I shut down my whole system, it still not working right. Therefore, i was thinking it might be the PSU's prob, so I try OCZ powerstream 520, everything is so smooth right now. That is all I can say up to this moment.

This is similar to what I have experienced...
Even past -40c, IF I do clear CMOS and boot up machine, it will boot up... once. After that, unless I keep the temp warm, it just won't. Sounds like similar to what you went through.
Now, the funny thing is.... I AM using OCZ powerstream 520W. I even tried my backup Enermax Coolergiant 385W just to see if it is PSU related...
What is your evap temp like when the board actually starts up? How cold does it ever get in your setup until you get into windows?

ok, here is the trick:
you can shut down everything and put the jumper cap on the temp 2,3,and 4(LS control pcb)
then press the power button let LS boot , meanwhile, you will see there is a small blue led will have red color flash, then pull those 3 jumpers out right away.
Try that first..

i think i read somewhere that plugging a fan into the cpu fan header cured this problem. i will have my 3500+ back from rma tomorrow and will give it a shot.

well i finally got my cpu back from rma today. threw it in and the board booted perfect with the LS. its been running for about an hour with 0 problems. strange how i had LS probs before though. cpu seems to be a nice one. need to check for stability of course but here is a nice screenie :)

yea, im very happy with my 3700EB. As much as i'd like to try some of this gskill if i can pound this EB out to 280 there wouldnt be much point :D and im still playing with it, havnt tried higher than 273 or 3.26vdimm to see where the limit is. Want to get this out to 270x10 1:1+ first. Did 260 3-3-2-8 1T in DC and 250 3-2-2-10 1T in DC at 2.8vdimm. Thats where the tccd looks very good, unmodded boards can still get huge performance.Quote:

They didnt fare as well at 2.8v as they did in my a8v, but i could superpi at 221 2-2-2-5 2.86vdimm where 210 2-2-2-5 2.81vdimm would no post.

also tried my well traveled bh-5 xms3500c2. Sat in my nf7-s for months at 3.05vdimm vs the xms3500c2pt that the 250 screens on thats had less than 2 hours use its whole life. 255 2-2-2-5 1T DC@3.26vdimm. Not spectacular for 256 meg dimms but it sure backs up the idea that this new bios solves the BH-5 issue =)

I've had my new 3200+ winchester, neo2 plat, and my a64 mounting kit for my promy for 3-4 days now. Due to me moving and not having internet for 4-5 days i went ahead and flashed my board with a bios i had dl about a week ago and well.. it was for the 754 board and now my board won't boot. :eek: I'm going to try and hotflash it tonight after work or just go buy me a new board and use it to hotflash the damn thing. Once i'm up and running i'll see what i can do. I did have my chip up to 2.4 at default volts with plain air but my bh-5 is not liking this board yet. I'll have to do the vdimm mod on it and crank some volts up. It's good to see so many people that are pleased with these new chips. I'd love to hit 3ghz with my 3200 that would be nice *Crosses fingers*. On another note i'm really nervous about putting on my chilly1 mod'd promy due to never having done it before or seeing guides on the install. Insulation is my main fear as i'm a newbie with it.. bleh. Oh well i guess i can just dive in and follow the guides best i can. Anyway i'll report back when i'm back up and i'll do a few runs on air then on promy.

Well I too have issue with M8N neo2, 3500 90nm and vapo LS. will boot fine, but unstable at stcok and crashes either at desktop, or before.
System ran fine with newcastle 3500 all the way to 2950MHz. but this wiinchester wont do crap. Heck I cant get far enough with it in windows to open any program, if it even make it that far. I cant figure this thing,
A lot of ppl are having issues with LS and winchesters. Some have fixed the issue with using a seperate power supply for the LS and others have said they have had to attach a fan to the cpu fan connector. It's a weird issue that's for sure. I hope i don't have the same thing with my promy when i put it on my chip. Here's a quick shot of my new 90nm on my neo2 plat.Quote:

Just find it realy hard to believe -0 temperature could cause instability. As it will boot and run (sorta) even at -45C :confused: Plus the hit and miss nature of it. some work some dont, WHo knows?
yeah it's very strange. onepagebook said he switched from a pc p&c 510 to a ocz psu in order to get his ls to work. im using my pc p&c 510 dlx without any problems. i got a new cpu from rma and things are working perfectly. my old one had the exact problem you are all having. who knows. very strange :confused:Quote:
