Anyone here noticing a saggy 3.3v line on the KD7 or AT7 boards? I just wonder if this could be contributing to my PCI bus problems.

No one else gets popping on their sound cards or hd corruption above 200mhz huh? My board runs perfect at 199mhz, but as soon as I put 200mhz, things go insane. Its like theres buggy 1/6th code on this chipset or something.

Anyone else see TH.com mention Gigabyte supporting 1/6th? Is this true?

I've stated this here on the forums before, but it's acknowledged by VIA that the KT-400 chipset DOES NOT support a 1/6th divisor. Thats why Abit removed it as a choice from the bios because it does not work, the clock gen supports it but not the chipset. No KT-400 boards manufactured by anyone have a functioning 1/6th, if they continue to advertise that way they are misleading the buying public:)

Hi MrIcee, yeah, thats what I hear too. Even Abit confirms that tidbit of truth. No 1/6th.

And not that I put it above THG to stretch the truth, but saying that the Gigabyte board hits 200FSB without overclocking the PCI/AGP is saying that 1/6th works on that board. So are they flat out lying this time?

For the record, this reminds me of the time when rumours said that the Epox 8KHA+ supported both the 1/5 and 1/6 pci dividers.To help this,the Epox techs answered NO COMMENT instead of just plain NO when questions were asked,probably to sell more mainboards :) .As for the KD7,the clock gen supported these dividers,but the KT266A chipset didnt.

Boards still did 200mhz fsb though :D

It's a Vapochill transplanted from it's butt ugly original case, to a LianLi pc70 Aluminum server case.:D

Lots of room easy to work in and better looking of course.;)

What about the fix PCI/AGP function on some boards. What happens to pci/agp at FSB'S over 200??

There is little reason to upgrade from the KX7 to the KD7. Unless you are interested in the AGP x8 support, USB 2.0, the better Vcore and Vmem choices, and the onboard sound and NIC, there is little performance gain.

I made the move simply for curiosity and for the purposes of a motherboard review article for Liquid Ninjas .

However, if buying a new socket A mobo, the KD7/AT7Max2 is still the one to get. It can do everything the KX7 can...plus has better features. Just don't go looking at these KT400 mobos as a performance upgrade to KT333 mobos...they're not.

My only complaint so ar is HD corruption at higher FSB speeds (over 203mhz for me). But I am not done yet looking for a fix to this issue. On the up side, my stick of Corsair XMS 3200 512 which was kind of a slug on the KX7 (would only do 194mhz at CAS 2 3,6,3 2T) will run 202mhz at CAS 2 2,6,2 1T on the KD7 with the same voltages.

It's interesting.. I hear the onboard NIC is quite a bit lower on CPU usage than the add in board.. which means online gaming should improve..

I don't think so, the reason is my Mushkin 3000 that use to do 198-201 max timings on KX7, it can't do it on the KD7. I have to use Corsair 3200 C2 to use max tiimings at 198 plus.

Running prime right now at 204 all timings maxed except useing 2T, to check on this coruppution deal. The only problem I have at 204 is the Radeon 9700 can't really take it. I'm on a regular IDE port by the way with a baracuda IV.

HD corruption, high fsb?? Any one see the corelation ??

All HD's are different. I have a IBM Deskstar at 195 it corrupts, I also have 2 in RAID, and they dont corrupt all the way to 200 fsb.

In addition Bios's are different in timings and what not, so one bios may be fine up to 200, flash and now not fine at 185.

Mr. Fridge, the corruption is called by the motherboard, not the drives. Ive had these drives in multiple other systems, including my last KX7 that did over 210mhz. The sound card also popples...the problem is a bug with PCI at this speed, which affects anything connected to that bus.

Opp, thats the same as my 3.3v line, which is why I mention it. I got an awesome PSU now too so i know its not that, its the board.

I should try regular IDE and see if problem is any better. What week is your NB?

I cant get 1T to work yet at 180+ on this board. Ill have to raise Vmem. Are there any problems with AGP voltage by raising Vme to high? This used to happen on the KX7, the AGP would become unstable if too much Vmem was used.

Tried seeing if HD corruption problem goes away when disabling the V link 8x Support. Still had corruption and lost the OS at 208mhz. Last time I hosed the OS was at 205mhz.

Not sure if this is an improvement or not. With this kind of problem it really takes time to test things out.

No the Vmem doesn't kill the AGP, I use 3.05V. My prime did dye though after 18minutes, it said unable to open log file error, this could very well have been the mem and their timings though and not a harddrive problem.

Sorry, don't know the week of the NB :D, I would definitlly put some voltage on the mem, this could fix a lot of problems.

Mm, not the memory for sure. I have that on the most conservative settings and have it at 2.7v to be sure. THe corruption occurs no matter what unfortunately.

Welp...i cant fix this thing. Guess ill live with it.

The poping sound I dont know, what kind of sound card is it? Shouldnt be the old 686a bug re-hashed..... You have ofcoarse tried moving to different pci slot, and unpluged the cdrom to sound card analog cable right? In addition, I have had software cooling progies make my sound card "popple" bad. I forget which one, that was in win 98 days....

Memory can and will corrupt a drive, so again with my second example. Bios A all fine an dandy, switch to bios B, and try and do the same fsb and BSOD,Harddrive corruption ect ect.

Your situation is Board A to Board B, which is even worse case scenario for my example, to add chipset a to b.

For instance, If lets say your ram was good to 200 fsb, at cas 2.5 3/6/3 2t MAX stable. Now you say what the hell, and you switch it to cas 2 2/5/2 1 t and fire it up. You would definately be taking a chance of corupting the harddrive, if you made it that far.

What you did is change timings, ditto from one board to another. One bios to another. My epox 8k3a+ has many bios's all suck. But most you can fly to 220 fsb(but benches like a abit@ 175fsb) and others (with cpu decode enabled) 185-190 is the MAX anybody can go. Any higher is BSOD, and or HD corruption.

Im sure you know all this Im just trying to help if you didnt.

Have you tried running 3.0 atleast??? What kind of memory is it?? Is the memory ok at 200+ on your other abit?

Let me ask you another question. when your at 199 your cpu is at what speed??? When your at 200 fsb your CPU is at what speed. ???

Another question what is the highest overclock your cpu will go(at a lower fsb)???

One more suggestion, If possible, try adding .25 or .50 to the cpu vcore. And see what happens @ 200fsb.

Thirdly get norton ghost and image your xp install for a quick 5 minute reinstall.
