I'm still working to familiarize myself with this board so I'm not sure if I'm experiencing a slight case of "PEBKAC" or if this particular sample is actually behaving in a slightly "squirrely" manner. I'll keep on testing it. :up:
How many of you are experiencing the problems with the UD5H that reviewers on Newegg are having?

If these issues are rather common, I wonder whether GB is really, genuinely committed long-term to resolving them. The UD5H has been in production since early March. I really like this board's features and the reviews it's been garnering, but I've been burned by Gigabyte in the past. I believe it was an X38 board that had never been entirely stable, was very finicky with memory timings, and had occasional lockups even at completely stock settings. GB dropped BIOS support for the board about a year later. And it was a high-tier board (around $200 at the time if I remember correctly). After 6 mos with the GB board I sold it and used the same DDR2 & processor I ran on it for my then newly purchased Max Formula, which ran stable and got better over time with additional BIOS updates. I like Asus because of their long-term BIOS support, especially for their ROG boards, though I'm not sure whether they do the same for the Sabertooth and their other boards are well.
I really want to like the UD5H, and yes I know the board is still relatively new, but GB supposedly really committed itself to their Z77 lineup since their Z68 products didn't pan out too well. I want a company that stands behind their product long-term. If I have to pay more for that service then I will, for peace of mind. [For the record, I know Asus has its problems too (esp for RMAs) and their god-awful slow web site.]
every product launch lots of people have no dramas and have a perfect system but some experience issues. It's not a perfect world and especially at start of a product life you'd expect some possible niggling issues with different hardware configurations. I find it a bit silly reading one of the reviews where the dude experienced a problem and made a conclusion that ALL ivy based setups (including the other 85% of people around him) are experiencing problems and anyone that pretested must be hiding some crazy problem. That's ridiculous.
NLight i can tell you that i have not had any random freezing. i test my gear for extreme OC mainly. I also have built some machines for demo systems etc so there are machines like that in which i would obviously be concerned if i experienced random freezing and would try to get to the bottom of it so the first point may have to do with a particular hardware combination or a faulty product, random shutoffs too (but with random shutoffs it can be RAM related!). RAM instability can be manifested differently to previous gens and shutoffs or hard crashes/restarts can be part of that!
Yes USB detection issues are there for getting into bios on some peripherals. This is never 100% right at launch of a platform. Ive personally experienced issues with Corsair mouse not working in bios for example and some keyboards for which ive had uipdated bioses and fixed the issue. If there is a problem, people report it and have specific hardware info that it happens with and Taiwan replicates the issue, they will fix it up, not a big deal!
Laggy bios navigation with mouse, not sure about this, it seems ok to me but to be honest i usually hit ESC as soon as I enter bios and go into advanced side and use a keyboard. Laggy bios navigation may also be a sign of incorrect compatibility that bios guys could address so once again if some experiences a problem like that it should be report and Taiwan will replicate and fix the problem no drama.
If you are concerned about launch products and niggling issues wait until dust settles, see what hardware combinations people are running and then decide imo...
Some of the hardware I've used in my testing includes. Ram wise i didnt test them all with full timings and mHz rating but just mild OC on demo machines. TridentX and RipjawX ive tested more extensively as well as Team Group sticks at an OC event

You have to take neweggs reviews with a grain of salt, there is a tremendous disparity of skills/knowledge(male ego) in the user community, not to mention hardware configurations.Quote:

You do have to accept a certain degree of issues on any new hardware platform, but would have thought most hardware vendors would learn from their mistakes (fat chance) over time.

Hi peeps just thought id share soma wid u guys. If you save a profile from an older bios then load it onto say F8a you MIGHT hav issues like system boot then switches off then ON...happend to me around 4 times in a row...then PC boots up fine...Only thing is DDR voltage goes back to 1.5v when i prev had set it too 1.41v.
This issue doesnt happen straightaway happens every few boots. I noticed in bios F8a that TPM module options is under peripherals. When i load my prev saved profile (From an earlier bios) that TPM option does not show under peripherals.
Ive now just entered all my settings manually and just waiting to see if i get the issue again.
When im on my desktop everything is running sweet (Rock solid)
I prev had issues with stuttering videos on GTX 680 ive just found out it was my TV Sammy UE46d6530 (HDMI) You have to enable GAME MODE on your TV and the stuttering disappears.
EDIT: still had same issue..so it cant be the profiles. Tryin Bios F7b now
Prior to BIOS F6 I had some issues but ever since upgrading it's been rock solid. There are only 2 legitimate negative reviews on Newegg. At this point in time I'd consider this board one of the most solid Z77 boards available. Plus its the best price.

I just got a second UD5 yesterday and noticed something weird. Everything on the 2 boards is the same EXCEPT the memory sockets. The board I received 2 weeks ago had a space between the 2nd and 3rd slots, the board I just got has all 4 slots sandwiched together and both are rev 1.0 :confused:

I'm no newbie when it comes to system builds but I tend to be hesitant on any new product launches, as I'm sure many of you are. And yes, when I look at Newegg reviews I don't weight them nearly as much as forum threads like this one dedicated to the product at hand. You addressed most of my main concerns with the UD5H.
I've narrowed my choices to either the UD5H or Sabertooth. I posted in another thread that I'm not particularly sold on the latter's Thermal Armor but after reading more positive comments that it really does work, it's made my decision even harder. My current Max Formula ROG board has been the most stable I've ever had, and Asus was good at regularly releasing updated BIOSes to address various issues, none of which caused and major trouble. I would only buy a Sabertooth or ROG board from Asus because I feel they don't provide the long-term support for their mainstream boards like they do with their gaming/premier boards. Of course, that's probably the case with most mb manufacturers.
The UD5H has strong appeal because it offers so many features for the money and has, perhaps, the best power delivery of any Z77 mb I've seen. I also like the "extra" distance between the socket and first DIMM slot on these boards [some ATX boards can be quite cramped when it comes to spacing]. But the best point is perhaps is the price--certainly GB has Asus easily beat in that area, at least imho. The P877V boards are overpriced, esp the Deluxe model.
What I wonder is how warm does the socket area get, say, with a large cooler such as a TR Silver Arrow or Noctua NH-D14? Have any of you taken temp readings with an air cooled setup?
My system could really use an upgrade. Dunno if I'm gonna wait this out a bit longer or bite the bullet and forge ahead.

Could someone please explain exactly what the PWM Slope for CPU Fan and Chasis fans does in the UD5H bios . I can set the CPU fan control to Voltage or PWM and then change the Slope ( as it is called ) can i not control the speed of the CPU vent with that setting ?
Backstory : I have the dreaded H100 pump noise problem and for the moment i cant do any of the fixes that are spread of the internet so the only thing i could do was to modify the molex for the pump power and get it plugged into the CPU fan header ( this is a 4 pin header out of wich i only connected 2 pins ( + and - most probably )
My question is , how can i set it in the bios so that the CPU fan header gives the pump 90 % of power ( as if it would give 90% speed to the CPU fan )

With the fans the temps take a noticeable drop. [Yes, it's a P67--but the TA on the Z77 has actually been improved over its predecessor].

Keep in mind that the TA can also be completely removed if desired. I guess the best thing is that it's warrantied for 5 years. Still, the Sabertooth Z77 is quite expensive for the features you get, so I'm still leaning towards a UD5H. I may wait for the ATX Assassin/Sniper boards or even a Max Formula V if I can stretch the budget. I don't want any M3 board--too limited for me.
Ugh still waiting on my microcenter to get the UD5H back in stock.
I have a reviewer friend he reviewed the sabertooth and said that the TA made things worse, funny enough he left that part out of the review, as i feel many reviewers do, You really think you are the only person who wants to know if the armour makes temps better? lol I am sure everyone who gets that board wants to test that. TO me it is a simple thing, you add on a jacket with some vents it isn't going to be cooler than if you didn't wear the jacket.
Perhaps if you tested with no airflow at all versus airflow through the built in fan then it would be the same, but then again in a case you always have airflow. I know a lot of people enjoy the TA b/c it blocks the view of the circuits which they don't like.
Anyways yea you should be fine with either choice.
BTW stasio the new and old BIOSes, i see you just posted newer dated F7 for the UD5H/
USB keyboard issues use red ports at the back. Im using logitech anywhere MX mouse and Logitech K360 keyboard thru 1 unified adaptor. no issues from start except laggy mouse in bios...But its allways worked. Seems lil betta on F7
F7 so far so good. Ive had so many issues from day 1...But once you hav all the voltages setup proper ! It's rock solid..im gona put up some more benchies soon.
Dont give up peeps I nearly did. I started with F4 + Gskill sticks.
IMC + VTT voltages i think is the key to most issues. It needs to be set higher than most older boards ive owned.
