I can see similar banding on my GTX 275, so in that regard there's no discernable difference. I don't know if fermi has it better though, but I doubt it.

The first shock is learned quickly: Although AMD indicates that MLAA works on all common APIs, is currently the only DirectX 9 of the case. In DirectX 10 or DirectX 11 gaming MLAA has no effect. AMD has now confirmed this to us and explains that this is an error.
This is getting interesting.

My last Nvidia gpu a GTX285 had poor image quality compared to my 4870x2 at the time.. Nvidia needs to talk less and act more.
That is objectively false. HD2000-HD4000 all have the same crappy texture filtering and AF quality, while G80-GF110 all have the same filtering and AF quality which is superior.
HD5000 improved the AF quality but still had texture filtering quality issues on noisy textures. HD6000 fixed this but only when mip map detail is on highest and Catalyst AI is off.
Ditto,
Take it from someone who is looking at both sides habitually. I've owned a 8800GTX, a GTX 285 and now a GTX 580 and I can tell you when compared to my HD4850 and now the HD5850, on the same monitors no less; nvidia has plenty to be proud about. I'm extremely ocd about these things and will fiddle with catalyst and exe names to no end. Not to mention there are hundreds of articles which go over it.
The myth that seems to be permeating around here in lala land about nvidias IQ is entirely a carryover from the godawful 7 series days. Back then I worshiped my X1900XT with good reason.
I'm not comparing who gets the best framerate. Namely I just note who shimmers, who has worthless 2xAA and 4xAA. All those cards are perfectly capable of that in everything but crysis. The only place nvidia loses is in fallout 3 with its transparency AA just puking up with every driver after the 190~... although new vegas for some reason doesn't have the same issues.
Now that the 5 series cards have access to the same CAT AI and Quality settings as of the latest Catalyst 10 hotfix, I'd like to see a comparison of both a 5 series card and 68xx card now.
" AMD Catalyst 10.10e Hotfix Features:
* The AMD Catalyst Control Center now features the new AMD Catalyst AI user interface options on the ATI Radeon™ HD 5000 Series (the new AMD Catalyst AI options were previously only available for the AMD Radeon 6800 Series)” "
If it turns out that software was the only thing giving the 6xxx series the edge so far, I'm so going to laugh and AMD will lose some serious respect points in my book. Although the whole Nvidia PR talking crap thing is a bit distasteful, if there is truth is this I suppose it is deservedly so. What I'm most interested in is wether or not the 10.10e hotfix enchances IQ on 5 series products or merely has renamed the IQ options. From what I've read the High Quality option is the equilivent to no Catalyst AI yet also allows crossfire to still function which sounds good for those users at least.
I have a 5770 and want to do a compare between last drivers and the new ones. do I just install the Catalyst Software Suite (64 bit) English Only 77.6 MB 10.11 11/17/2010 or do I need something else?
I don't believe the AI changes ( ie potential IQ improvement ) for the 5 series cards made it into 10.11 but I might be mistaken  That said, 10.10e has them for sure.
I don't know about you guys but i definitely noticed more shimmering with move to DX10. Especially when you really close to the wall or objects they just artifact more. I have dual boot with xp so same hardware same games. Without Vsuck some games drive me nuts on win7. But any gamer worth their salt knows that playing FPS multiplayer with Vsuck suck A**. But then i seen my friends 5870 and it was a bit worse then my old g92 card. Way faster for sure :D but I'd gladly give up few FPS for better IQ.
