How can you check to see if your WU's are going in under his name?
I've been running it for a bit now and I've yet to see an error, but I see that there were 2 WU's turned in sometime since midnight. Almost 2 hours ago... so not looking like it is... well bah
Looking at Boincstats you can see that there were no points added to his account the last few days.
It would be nice if someone had access to the account to check what rigs are working on the account.
How exactly do we use the Weak-Key? My mind sort of melted when I couldn't find any of the files they were talking about.
Heck, been away forever....
If you have Jon's weak key, post it here!! I know what to do with it and will bring some serious rigs on it.
I replied to your email but didn't know you got his weak key. LMK.
The weak key is something that can cause no harm to Jon's account. You can contribute, but not modify. If you get his hard key or password, that we will need to guard a bit...
Good to see ya'll!!! Sorry for the absence.... Life tried to intrude.
Regards,
Bob
Good to see you Lu! I've been on serious walk-about, in more ways than one...
No problem about catching Loony, if Dave posts his weak key, I have some rigs to throw on it.... :D
Let me get it, and I'll let you know if it's valid, and works. If it's not a hex string about 3 inches (7-8cm?) long, it may not be right. Basically, you replace it with your weak key in a couple of files, and it rocks on. I'm concerned about the posts that say they are having errors. That should not be. This is how jcool and I supported Scott during his absence.
Regards,
Bob
I'll put the SR-2 on his account when I finally get to build it this week-end.
I miss him, a lot. Still sad he didn't get to play with that Hexacore I sent him in November 09.. he just loved OCing :(
Yes, it was extremely easy IIRC. Just replace that weak key in some file, the account_info.xml I think it was.
Edit: Just found that old *.txt file I made, containing my own and Scott's key. All you have to do is open the account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml file located at C:\ProgramData\BOINC (for Vista/Win7, it's hidden by default), and replace the key in the authenticator line. Save your own key though, so you can copy it back in if you want to return to your own account later.
At least that's how bob & me did it back in the day...
Edit2: Oh.. I just checked my WCG page, and it seems this authenticator is the real account key, not the weak key. So it might be too dangerous to use in this scenario...
Just making sure I understand this right.
The key we got from Dave is the weak key, but for where we tried to enter it in the file we would need accound key. Atleast that is what it looks like when I check my keys at the WCG site. (weak key is 39 digits and the account key is 32 digits)
I have checked all the files in my install and can't find my weak key in any of them. (I shouldn't need that, because I have the full account key already)
When I google for this, all I can find is that they enter the weak key in the "account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml" file. But that gives me an error.
Could it be that WCG is using older software on their servers? http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Weak_account_key
I am glad to see so many willing to help out on this. And a big thanks to all that are working on getting right for us.
Got the key ya'll sent. Looking into it now. jcool is probably right in his posts. He and I rocked Scott's account for a while. That was some time ago though... :slobber:
Bob
well, I got "invalid or missing account key" for my initial attempt... I'll work on it some more tomorrow...
j, do you have it working?
Bob
EDIT: What was sent is in fact Jon's weak key, by comparing the length to my own keys. What we had with Scott, was actually his account key....
Not working yet, as the SR-2 rig isn't up yet I haven't tried.
But yes, I think we can conclude that "our" method only works with the real account key, not the weak key.
Even though I don't see HOW you can modify or change anything on somebody's account using that account key. It's not like you can use it as a log-in or something
Got this info today:
Dave:
Just try this one thing again (with a few more instructions).
Detach from World Community Grid with your current member id and then use the following command to attach as loonym
C:\Program Files\BOINC>boinccmd.exe --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org (insert weak key here,no parentheses)
Bill
I was just going to post some thing that worked for me. I did a new boinc install on my lap top and copied the account.....xml file with Jon's weak key to that new install. When you start boinc it will fetch new work and do it's thing.
But I'm not sure this will work when you still have unfinished WU's from your own account.
I have it working on the Ubuntu intall on my cruncher now too. (the windows install still has 5 days of work on it that I didn't want to abort, of course)
Detached from the project in Boinc and typed this in the terminal:
boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org (insert weak key here,no parentheses)
Restarted Boinc and it is working in Loonym's name now.
OK, I'm up on the first machine on Jon's account.
I used a slight modification of MM's technique above.
1) I used a DOS window and navigated over to C:\Program Files\BOINC in the usual DOS command line way...
2) I typed in boinccmd.exe --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org (Jon's weak key ,no parentheses) manually. (OK, call me old fashioned...:slobber: :ROTF:)
3) Hit enter, and poof, it attached to loonym and is doing WUs now.
If anyone has an easier technique than manual typing, I'm all ears. I've got other machines to bring over....
Of interesting note is that Jon seems to have all the projects checked. I'm running a mix of stuff in his name.
My best,
Bob
Thanks 123bob.
I'll give it a try as soon as my cache gets a bit lower....maybe in a day or two.
