At a 195 BCKL my NB is at 43C after 45min. of WCG in a rather cool room (~50F). With more reasonable ambient temperature it usually pushes 50C but afaik has never gotten above 48C. This is all with stock TIM and cooling in a case btw.
been lurking for many years.. just want to say thank you to all the contributors on this site.. you have helped me IMMENSELY... 90% of what I've learned about OCing has come from YOU
After reading this thread and some reviews I decided to remove both the "gigabyte" blue plates from the NB cooling apparatus. I also added 4 x Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fans to the side panel of my HAF.
Using Everest 5.5 for NB and Mobo monitoring (20c ambient):
Case open, Gigabyte plates ON - OC testing: the NB temps approached 80C.
Even at stock speeds the NB approached 70C.
MOBO was consistently around 50-55C. OC or stock.
With plates off, case panel on and 4 fans my NB temp dropped by 30-35c and Mobo dropped by 15-20c.
Current temps are around NB 45, MOBO 35.
Removing those plates and putting some air on those heatsinks makes a big difference. - for those using this board- worth the effort and very easy to do IMHO
I believe the NB is rated for some pretty high temps, but that 80C and the mobo temps were making me nervous. I plan on running this rig 24/7. I'm more confident now about attempting some higher clocks this weekend.
davelakecity, welcome to XS.i agree about this place is the place
to learn.when i first got into OCing 2 1/2 years ago, seemed like everyone
here was more than happy to teach and help out.:up:XS's rocks
yea i removed blue NB plates on my EP45-UD3P/R's too.all four boards
im going to do the same with my X58A-UD3R as well.even though my
temps are ok,but it will give me piece of mind.i just got my WCing setup
installed and will begin the Ocing adventure very soon.
That's incredible davelakecity. Thanks for the info and welcome to the forum. :welcome:
Actually, I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, do they just pop off or something those blue plates?
The Gigabyte plates are held on with double sided tape . Both feel well secured . But when I pried mine off as soon as they start to move they just come off easily .
I used a small screw driver .
Welcome davelakecity !! Great people here !!
j
heres my first attempted OC with this board and new cpu
using my new WCing setup.going to try and lower the vcore
and see how low i can get it for 4.2Ghz.also need to work
on lowering the vtt.then i'll work on the memory timings:up:

somebody test this mobo in high BCLK?
i will be trying for higher bclk very soon.so i will let you know how i do.
i just need to nail down a 24/7 stable OC for the big May 1st crunch-a-thon.
once i have that done i'll see how high i can go on the bclk.
Think I saw a 230 BCLK earlier in the thread.
Nice results and temps radaja, I just bought this board for my new cruncher/media server and have been running at 100% load for a few days now at 4.2. It needed 1.275 vcore but only 1.28vtt the temps are a bit higher, the mid 60's with a Thermalright Venomous-X.
sRHunt3r,thanks.yea these make great crunchers.your getting great temps for air.
Definitely nice temps! I'm looking at replacing my Black ICE 240 for and RX240 rad, I see you have the 360 model, any idea what the flow resistance is like?
Hey radaja - could you post your other voltages IOH/ICH when you feel you have a stable OC with your memory optimized ?
I really have no idea what my flow is, my RX360 is on my UD7 rig and I have no flow meter :( I have been looking into one ..... I'll try to pick 1 up later this week.
I wouldn't worry about it much. Mine sits around 47 degrees @ 4.2ghz (see post # 8 for specifics). I don't have any extra fans, but the HAF is pretty breezy :)
Yeah maybe you could still RMA the board after modification, but is it worth it? Let us know how it goes if you do though, and pics plz! :D
well i installed vista x64 and worked on lowering the timings and got this.
looks like 1.21v is as low as i can go for 4.2,at least with using vista x64.
i'll use this OC for the big crunch-a-thon the first week in May.
