Anyone notice that it has play side to side even with the pressure at max? A good amount too, you can twist it side to side quite easily...
Am I just doing something wrong? (installing on 1366 i7)
i dont have a venomous x but i have a hyper 212 + which has a central hold down point which appears to be similar to the venomous x. i asked the same question as you and i was told it was normal because of it using only the central hold down point. you are fine :)
Yup. Like I said previously it does that. I'll try and see if there isn't a simple mod to try and actually increase the pressure when I get back from CES. As I said before ANY mod to this new mount has to be done carefully as I can see it applying enough centralized pressure to possibly cause socket damage. I did notice that the cooler performs well with very little TIM. It also has less "play" when less TIM is used.
Just a casual observer who watercools and really has no interest for Air Coolers...
Why is it that you create this scenarios (illogical might I add) where the Venomous-X comes out on top no matter what? You assume parity between the Venomous-X and NH-D14 when no data has been provided to suggest this to be the case (and as such claim that there is no reason to really compare all of the top coolers because they all perform within a few degrees of each other). Then when pressed by a user, you offer the answer above in the quotation where you claim that the Venomous-X is indeed worth purchasing over the a lapped TRUE because according to you the temps are much better. I find this to be the creation of a subjective win/win scenario for the Venomous-X and in my opinion that is dishonest.
It is my opinion that you're not objective at all in your approach and as such I would recommend that other casual observers ignore the data which you provided unless you can properly explain your actions.
Good Day.
Re: NH-D14 and VX
I have the VX and wish I got the D14 now. I didn't realize the mounting doesn't fully secure it, so you can't use Indigo Xtreme with VX (waiting on official word from Indigo Xtreme but I'm 99% sure this is true). VX gives very good temps, but NH-D14 with Indigo Xtreme TIM can't be beat imo. Then again, the D14 is twice as big.
Sam_oslo in the Intel forum has a W3520 running 24/7 stable at 4.5GHz HT on with his D14.
Wait wut? "I find this to be the creation of a subjective win/win scenario for the Venomous-X and in my opinion that is dishonest." OK so what exactly am I lying about? Then you go on about me not being objective lol. "It is my opinion that you're not objective at all in your approach and as such I would recommend that other casual observers ignore the data which you provided unless you can properly explain your actions." So which is it I am being un objective and a thermalright fanboy or an out right liar. I also find it mildly amusing that "Just a casual observer who watercools and really has no interest for Air Coolers..." chooses this thread to take such a passionate position on air coolers lol. That being said let me see if I can clear the rest up for you.
"Why is it that you create this scenarios (illogical might I add) where the Venomous-X comes out on top no matter what?"
To the contrary I have never posted anything where I say The X is the best air cooler out there. What I did say was "On the contrary IMHO the X from the reviews I have read of other coolers is indeed better. I have yet to see a test posted with same clocks on the same cpu with similar voltages prove otherwise. It may be true but I haven't seen it." This thread has never been about the comparison of a lapped true and the X. It was up untill that question a discussion about the performance of the X and the noctua and the Mega. First the mega and when that seemed to end it moved on to the d14. Again by people in the community posting their opinions. This thread never intended to turn into a discussion on what was best it was just a post about the coolers availablity and that I had one comming and if anyone wanted a test run on it. I ran what ever was requested and then the comparisons started. Now with the previous quote now taken into context all I said was I have yet to see data otherwise be that in a post or a review. It may be worse than a mega and or a noctua as I said I just don't see the data.
Well, the ground work is mostly done. I'll be starting to test air coolers (and entrly level water; Corsair H50, CoolIT) soon.
I plan on having the top contenders to start, and will continually add coolers as time permits.
This is exactly what I have been waiting for...go skinnee go...
I'm using the bolt-thru, and even i cant twist mine at all.
Hey nick how's it working for the amd?
Yeah I believe so! I think my problem is that I had the pressure thing a little bit down already when I mounted the cross bar on. Maybe this interfered with the outside screws mounting onto the frame/backplate, and they could go farther. Very interesting! I'll reseat when I get the time and report back.
TR have made quite a special product: on par with the Megahalems at low rpm and with the Noctua at mid rpm. I for one I'm anxiously awaiting Prolima's response. :)
Would this be the cooler to get at the moment for a C2D e6750, coming from stock cooling or should I wait for more results and perhaps get a TRUE or Megahalems??
Not all coolers that works great on i7 will do the same on 775. The best example is the IFX-14 which shines on 1366 but is not very good on 775. If you don't have any plans of an immediate upgrade I think something like a Mugen2, Coolermaster Z600 are great solutions and might even work fanless on your setup.
