hm, then I guess I'll want to buy another 2GB stick so I can have 2x2GB for 4 GB.
The sticks should probably be similar right? The one I have is DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15, 2.1V. Any suggestions?

Get the same brand & same part number with the existing one.
darn...I think that would be expensive since it's corsair dominator. The only reason I got this stick is because i took a gamble on an eBay auction selling untested ram, and the stick happened to work.
I guess I'll buy ram when I can afford it (first week of february) if I can't use all the ram I have.
Any recommendations? There's deals on 4GB of OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066 and 4GB Patriot Viper 1066 on newegg, but the rebates expire after Jan 31st, though I imagine they'll just get renewed, or more rebates will just show up.
If I want another 2GB stick to match the one I have, should I get this?

DDR2 1066, 2.1v, 5-5-5-15...it's rather expensive though
UPDATE: ARGGHHH!!! My dorm's mail sorting is garbage so even though the cpu and mobo and all were delivered today, I can't pick it up because they haven't logged and sorted all the received mail...I was able to SEE my box in the mail room and they wouldn't give it to me
FINALLY was able to pick up my parts. Put the system together in less than 2 hours, tried powering it up and it all looks good!
Now I'm trying to install windows 7...which is an awfully slow process. We'll see about the unlock and oc afterwards.
I stuck in all the ram for now. If I have problems with the OC, then I'll pull out the 667 and buy a 4GB pack when I get some more money.
I set ACC to auto and to all cores, and CPUz is still saying only 2 cores and no L3. It still boots and all though
CACVC AC 0932FPCW
Any advice?
UPDATE: apparently I disabled ACC on accident, not setting it to all cores (though I had tested it on auto)...argh still not working
UPDATE2: WOOHOO!! Boots labeled Phenom FX-5000 quad core! Hadn't been setting EC to hybrid firmware. YAY!
I'm hitting a wall with my fsb at 270.
I set the ram multiplier to 2.00x, and all voltages are at default, and HT link width and frequency are on auto.
If I raise fsb to 275, it won't post. I've tried raising the ram voltage to 2.00V from 1.80V, but it's not doing any good.
I know you mentioned dropping the HT, but I'm not sure what the setting for that is. There's a setting for HT link width and HT link frequency, but I'm not sure what that is exactly. I tried setting HT link width to 8.0 and HT link frequency to 800 mhz and 1ghz but it didn't help.
Any advice?
UPDATE: It appears to purely be a ram issue. I took out the 2 sticks of ddr2 667, and I was able to get it to boot at 3.3ghz, but I don't know how stable it is yet. I guess I'll have to invest in some faster ram.
I have 3 x DIMM. When I tested it and it posted it was with 1 x DIMM.
I ended up having to drop fsb to 260 (with the 3x dimm, i'm leaving it like that because I need 3 GB of ram) since it wasn't stable. Now, at fsb 260, it's pretty stable - ran Prime95 blend for 13 hours and it was all good.
Once I get 2 sticks of 1066 ddr2, i'll replace my ram and oc more.
I have 2 of these chips on the same type mobo and I hit a wall @ 3.26Ghz. Below that and it's completely stable running VM's for F@H. These cpu's are pegged @ 100% 24/7. They make great little quad core workhorses. SuperBiiz now has them for $49.99 w/free shipping. I think I will pick up another;).
has anyone tried this cpu with a motherboard supporting DDR3 ram, also is there a great differences between DDR2 and DDR3.
I have this cpu X2 5000 on it's own (unlockable to quad core and L3 cache), is it worth buying a new setup on this, or go for a new system that support DDR3 ram with cpu like amd am3 545 or 555 which are also unlockable with quad core and L3 cache memory.
It shouldn't support DDR3 since it's a Deneb with only a DDR2 controller (similar to a Phenom 920 if you'd like) on top of that, the die is AM2+.
Well.. DDR2 vs DDR3 wise... you have more bandwidth (moar megahertz!) and thus more performance. idk.. 30% increase in performance ? ..the only disadvantage to buying a new system based on DDR3 is that it costs more. If money isn't a problem then you should go for it since the Phenom 5xx series is far more overclockable (and far more better 2.2Ghz vs 3Ghz stock) compared to this FX5000.
P.S.: If you decide to go for it what will you do with that unlockable Deneb, could you trade ? ..i still don't know if mine will unlock (couldn't find anyone with a 790).
I agree with Alexs2tank. If the 100.00 price difference between the platforms is not an issue, you will get higher clocks/more performance out of the PII x2 555 with DDR3. The only niche this CPU has right now is that you can unlock it to a quad with modest clocks for only $50.00.
thanks for the info, I have decided to stick with the 5000+, it only cost me about USD 45, whiles the 555 is USD 105.
I have a problem, using cpuz it shows my cpu runs at 800GHZ-1700GHZ (mostly around 840GHZ) multipler x4, altough I did set it at 12.5x, what settings on the MB bios do i need to do for it to reach at least 2200GHZ, my MB is a magic-pro MP-AKGX-M Ultra, 790GX/SB750 with support of both DDR2 and DDR3, i'm using 2x 512MB DDR2 533, will buy later on 2x 2GB DDR2 1066.
update
I have finally got it to 2200GHZ, but it's still going up and down, is there a function to disable the auto core speed, setting the multipler will not work.

do you guys know where to pick up one of these in u.s. or online? thanks.

The key to identifying the right 5000+ for unlocking is to confirm it is 45nm and AM2+.
Disable "Cool & Quiet" in Bios.
Is it possible that AMD have made these to be optimized for old AM2 boards? They're marked as EOL now at AMD.
thanks for the heads up budzos, do you have the batch numbers?
around 95+ people in this thread have had success with the batches on the list:
tpc
I don't have the batch # from the one that unlocked since its installed but
the numbers on the one that did not unlock are 0938APMW.

Any ideas on Foxconn mobos? I came across a deal for a $46 Foxconn A76ML-K, and I was curious if it would support unlocking cores or not. I tried emailing Foxconn directly to ask if their BIOSes support ACC, but I still haven't heard back from them for some time now.
here's my take on the X2 5000, just got 12 boxes 7 can unlock & 5 don't, even some have the SAme batch/ product code one would unlock & one won't so i guess it's really goes down to luck then lol. used a J&W790GX & a Biostar 785GE to test the 12 CPU's & both have the same result on these CACVC AC 0935/ 0936 types.
