sorry for the late reply
EVA -> Mushkin PC3500 "black" (not lvl1/lvl2 this ram wwas made before they started seperating their dimms)...ram is BH-5
Hey Guys,
Anybody test this board at 5:4 with a high fsb? If so how did it do.
noidster
did you get the prom on this thing. if not please pm me with your results ass soon as you do it! thx :)
not yet... room temps aren't ideal to run my prommy in no air conditioned room at >33C
Ran mine @ 300fsb 2.6c 5:4 on air, Never put it in my vapo, opened a window it's about -1 Celsius out, Froze the room. Just to see how good the chip was.Quote:

The board is very stable. But i sold it in a Customers rig last friday.
If i see the mem scores go up in a bios update that i didnt like i would definitly buy another one. Or in customers computers, Just not for me "yet"
Tedinde did you compare AI7 and IS7's to be sure the difference in mem bandwidth reflected in other benchmarks too ? i.e. 3dmark2001, UT2003, etc ?
Yes i tried just 3dmark, on average, setting for setting ended up getting around 5% slower scores in 3dmark, settings being all the same.Quote:

Same cpu, same fsb, same mem, same vid card. Against a IS7-e. with the memory scoring 6.4k on the IS7 and almost 6k on the AI7.
But i just ordered another one just a few minutes ago. Not giving up on it yet.
Good to hear Tedinde you got another AI7, can't leave me alone playing with this board hehe :)
also noticed at overclockers.com forums more people are getting AI7 due to US$99 specials on it.. so i guess more feedback to Abit regarding issues and maybe better bios updates :)
Yeah bought one @ ZipZoomfly last night when i saw the $99. While i was getting some memory.
Couldnt resist.
I ordered one today, should have it by friday.
Have been doubting between this board and P4C800 (non deluxe), but he, why not give a try?
And you can't complain about the price either, looking what you get for it.
Hey guys, great thread.
Have you solved any of the problems with this board yet?
I just got it and stuck my 2.6c in and my 3500 level II and no boot, says bios rom checksum error. I thought I had a bad bios, but I guess it doesn't like the mushkin. I swapped it for some corsair xms3200c2 v1.1 and it booted fine, although I can't use slots 2 and 4, no boot (gets stuck on bios code AF).
I seem to run into a wall at 250 5:4, 667 strap. I can run this at default vcore with 2-2-2-5 timings (which are good up to about 223) with this ram. What ram have you guys been using to allow high fsb 5:4 clocks? I don't think I'm near my cpu limit because at default vcore its totally stable at 250. I'm pissed my mushkin doesn't work.
you need to run with NB strap 800FSB, as 667FSB Strap limit is 250fsb
not sure about your mushkin problem... i'd clear the CMOS and update to latest bios before you start playing
yeah, i've cleared the cmos and running bios 14.....
mushkin still doesn't work.
I run into the wall at 255 with strap at 800 and 5:4. This ram must not be very compatible either. Anyone found ram that will run high fsb with 5:4?
with Abit GAT capable boards async needs GAT read delay adjust and CPC disabled
thanks for your info, i have those 2 disable already with the other gat settings at "auto".
Might I have a defective board? It seems strange that it won't boot with my corsair in slots 2 and 4, only 1 and 3 will boot.
Well, i finally go the mushkin to boot, but you have to have another set of ram around to do it. Install other ram that will run 1:1, set the divider to 5:4, turn off, install mushkin, turn on.
Boots up fine and is now running 250/200 with the mushkin. Doesn't make sense why it won't run 1:1 and I don't want to have to install another stick of ram every time I have to clear the cmos so that I can use my mushkin again.
strange which bios for AI7 you using ?
Hello all,
I also got the bios checksum error with this board. Everything booted up fine with my 2x256mb khx3200 on first boot. Decided to download the new bios and made a floppy to flash it. Flash went fine but got the error when i rebooted. Only way I finally got it to boot was to take the 512mb stick of xms3200 v1.1 and put it in. I then set all my settings (raised vdimm and set 5:4 divider), shut down, put kingston back in and it reboooted and everything has been fine since. Pretty crappy problem but it seems for most that you can recover from it. Ever since I have had great results imo with this board.

3dmark2k1
noidster probably you set the 2x256mb khx pc3200 at speeds/timings which the board didn't like so it crapped out on ya with bios checksum..
also after flashing it reverts vdimm to lowest default value which some memory might not like - hence the bios checksum
I think it the default vdimm that does it. I know when messing around with my vdimm mod connected if i set vdimm in the bios too low it goes really low. I have also had the checksum error when that happend.

Another thing i've found is that 1:1 works with the mushkin, but again, you have to have had some other memory in there to boot it up with and then change the vdimm to 2.7 or above. It seems that the AI7 cannot detect the appropriate settings for the memory.
I'm getting about 5600 sandra at 249, 5:4 2-2-2-6, 667 strap. These are the best numbers i can achieve. Board keeps crapping out at 5:4 with 800 strap barely over 250, so I think that the northbridge might need adjusting (I haven't played with it yet). But I think this board is going to be returned anyway because, no matter what, slots 2 and 4 don't work together.
You think I should just get the p4c800e-deluxe instead? How does that board run 5:4? (random question)
I get a little over 6800mb/s in sandra at 309fsb 5:4. I think this was already mentioned in this thread but with 5:4 ratio it helps alot of people to disable the last 2 GAT settings. Dont have a screenshot on my ftp at 309 but here is 303fsb.

thanks noidster, but I have already disabled those settings.....by the way, what ram are you using?

667FSB = limit is 250fsb as Tedinde and I also confirmed
800FSB = is needed for >@250fsb ocs
also slot 2+4 is best for my memory doing 10-12fsb more 1:1 than slot 1+3 hmmmmm
P4C800-E is the best board around but at nearly twice the price of AI7 in Australia. My P4C800-E on air max async with 2.4C was 283fsb, on mach2 was 293fsb at 5:4 and 301fsb at 3:2 - until the p4c800-e died in mach2 and had to rma it to get bios chip replaced/reflashed
