Thats a great idea, we should have a thread with successful unlocking 550BE steppings and motheroards/BIOS used.

I know of three companies that give the Option.
They all have unlocked something successfully.
So far ASUS/Gigabyte have had the Highest clocks ive seen with 720/550..
The Third one BIostar successfull with 720/550. I believe the 550 was more stable than the 720's ive read about.
I almost thought there was a thread somewhere About Mobos. I cant find it.
ANyway it couldnt hurt to have one. I thinks thiers plenty of people that would like to know. Especially with these 550's
Hey vandiesel, try the BIOS dated from 1/13/09 again (The later BIOS has an option called Core Leveling, which locks the processor into single-core or dual-core only). Then double check your chipset settings for IDE/AHCI. It should be on Native IDE. Also with windows XP I believe there was a patch that later enables multi-core support, which is probably the one that is giving you issues.
I thought I would do some 3dmark06 @ 4ghz.
one 4870

4870 + 4850

I buy a 955 and get denied the magical 4Ghz mark by 100Mhz, you guys buy a $100 dual core and get there w/o issue. Argh
I am just plain bored LOL. I did some Crysis (original) bench marks both were with ATI's 8xAA and 16xAF I am going into win7 now.

Well, I am done. Gotta go help the in-laws.

Ive seen this talked about more than once
Download,,
HWmonitor
Everest Ultimate 1.52
Ive tested at variouse voltages and it is with in 1c on my system.
Ive learned to ignor the Four seperate Core readings and am uberly trained to see only 1 CPU temp now..
HWmonitor............Read TMPIN0 for Mobo temps.
..........................Read TMPIN1 for overall core temp(CPU).
..........................Read TMPIN2 ? not shure but may be secondary reading for CPU.
New Everest.........
This will show you CPU Temp under Overclocking(SENSOR).
also cores will read Zero , toward the Top youll see (CPU)under Motherboard..which reads correct.
Voltages are correct and i have measured with a DVOM @ W/B the Temps while locked or Unlocked. Stock volts and High volts the temps stay with in reason. Seems to be a variance of 1-2c.Not bad at all on this Mobo.

Oooooowahoahao...ouch....ooooooOwahahahot, somewhere a 550_Black Edition_ NinjaX4..learning to tame Voltage:rofl:
P.S. Charged , you haha,, you have the 550 syndrome now too huh:D
You know that's not a horrible idea actually. I would say the odds of one working to 4 cores is good at this point as I bet most of these are perfectly fine 955's disabled until they build up a defect stockpile. Then sell the other or keep it for an HTPC or give/sell to one of my friends that I know needs to upgrade.
Only issues would be:
1) I think it does but I am not sure if my Asus M3A79-T Deluxe will unlock one of these.
2) My 955 is lapped, so I am not sure how that would effect me trying to sell it.
Nice and with 4gigs.. 1.475v is just sweetness isnt it.:yepp:
Hondaguy, did you get the MA790FXT-UD5P?
My seconf 550 comes tomorrow or thursday. I also ordered me a new case......;)
Charge: Got the 790X instead....I'll go am3 later on this year
gotvoltage: F5 works as quad also

That is a nice board. Giga-byte is doing a fine job. Nice too see 4cores, lets see how high she goes ;)
I checked and it seems my second 550 will be here tomorrow. My case comes today tho. My only concern with my new case is cable management. My PSU has a butt load of wires (Corsair TX750W). Heat diffinently should not be an issue. I go on vacation next week, and plan on seeing if the next chip is as fruitful.
Any of you guys able to run LArgeFFTs or Blend?
My 550 runs 3dMark fine (after I cleared the cache) small FFTs no problem... but large/Blend jsut locks it right up.
Actually thinking about selling my Foxconn and my 920 and grabbing a second 550 and that 790X board :)
Dang ,, i wish i wanst away from the House this week..
Im gone a few days and everyone is getn new hardware:ROTF:
I think i may get a DDR3 ,, UD5P for this 550 and then use the UD4P on the 720 to keep it unlocked..
Amazing these Mobos just work like a charm for that special 4xtask.:yepp:
Super stuff.this sure as hell beats my 720X4 cores by a mile...specially looking at what u got it for. I am getting me one of these gigabyte boards soon....time to get on the ddr3 bandwagon...BTW would I see a lot of difference in performance moving from 900 Mhz DDR 2 4-4-4-12 to say 1600 DDR3 at 7-7-7-21?? I currently am running a biostar 790GXB board and OCZ reapers which go all the way to 1066 at 6-6-6-24@2.1V. My max OC was 3.9 not stable and 3.6 stable 4 cores, 3.7 3dmark stable. Also would this board help with higher OC's?
I am on thr RH modded 1/13/09(it fixes the ht lock at 1600), native ide, tried numerous acc settings/core leveling. Anything other than xp sp1a with 4 cores results in hang as xp chase screen. With my cpu unlocked to 4 core and 3.7 speed I am almost 3 days stable with WCG, with no errors

Well your CPUvcore may be fine,,
You will need +200 or more on the NBvid for stabilty even @ stock NB when going 3700mhz or higher. this is the same for UD4P/UD5P on DDR2/DDR3..Remeber the IMC is what makes things stable for Ram.. When your Clock above 3600mhz/3700MHZ you must give the IMC what it needs.
Usually takes 1.35/1.40 on the NBvid..this means +.200 = 1.3nbvid .
a lot of people are Unlocking cores and not bumping the NBvid up which is needed to keep things stable even if @ stock NB with High CPUclocks.
Have you tried doing all the updates for SP2 to SP3 and then running It.
Also your Problem may lie with a driver problem under SP2/Sp3... When i used Sp3 i had to also make shure all drivers were up to Date manually.
Matter of fact even a buggy Bios could cause XP to bork ,, Ive seen some Bioses be very buggy with I/O and VGA adapters when booting under XP.Even setting incorrect Volts after setting correct volts in Bios.
I would look for a Stable UNMODDED Biostar Bios.. the Newset Stock on e i thought unlocked fine.
Maybe go over to RebelsHaven and check out the GX threads for Biostar,, Lots of info.
http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi ,, PolyGon tweaks the Bioses like no other.
Ive switched to Vista_32 and Win7_32 and never looked back while using Phenom II .
