EVGA X58 SLI Classified (NF200) Preview

Do we know the base manufacturer of this board, is it Foxconn? Looking at the pics they seem to have addressed some of the quality control issues from the 680i days, solid caps, etc.

I swore I would never buy another board from EVGA after the 680i debaucle, went through 4 of them before I got sick and tired of having great results for 15 days, and then the board going belly up. There customer service was fine, they quickly replaced everything, but the QC end of things was terrible.

Been two years, they probably learned there lessons and have improved there QC and requirements from their base manufacturer.

I have been holding off going i7 waiting for the x58 to mature out, as I was tired of early adopting, getting to old to screw around with weak bios's and shoddy design. Just do not have the time to play like I used to.

This and the results from the 295's may bring me back to the green side, been red for vga's since the 8800gtx.

Nice job EVGA, looks to be a winner, look forward to launch.

Ouch...if that's true it looks like I'm back to either Blood Rage or EVGA X58.

any preview on how the memory will oc? can it oc to say 1800 tri-channel?

guys, if you want to check out some of the classified board's overclocking then go over to the GTX 295 overclocking thread. They were using that board with various videocards and cpu configurations. :D

$450 is more than I expected and is really pushing the motherboard price issue. The $64k question: does the digital VRD and 4-phase memory power produce and OC advantage?

Read my previous post, Shamino and Vince and some of those guys that were in detriot benched with this board, i believe.

Anyway the european pricetag is a ripoff.

Improvements over evga's current board are nf200 and probably the best vreg design on a board to date.
Now this only matters in a few limited situations. first, nf200 for tri SLI bandwidth, workstation graphics, and folding.
Now a buck that can support 600W is of very limited use, especially since evga's current board can support a 400W sustained load. However, at 5ghz+ and around 1.7v I have measured nehalem's power draw in the neighborhood of 400W during vantage cpu test, meaning that to achieve absolute max clocks evga classified will provide an advantage over its predecessor which should be very evident at the brink. however this should make it clear that only the extreme need apply; for those benching 965 under LN2 this board may be revolutionary, but for all others it is overkill that will not show any gains over current boards besides potentially rigorous BIOS support.

Price:down: All this does is encourage high/er prices when are folks going to wise up to this BS. There are better outfitted Dual socket Server boards that are more cost effective on the market sheesh!

Now that is a sexy board! I love the labeled spots to check voltages with a multimeter and the dual socketed bios!

Looks like a really sweet board, but way to much cash for any motherboard in my opinion.

That was all subzero stuff...with a 965 at mild bclks. Seemed to be all video benchmarks

How about a 920 pushing 230x21 with HT on on air or water with some SuperPi 32M numbers? Or a 940 at 230x23?

The real trick though is not how many super chips get a few 100 more Mhz, but how many fail to make 4-4.2Ghz. My guess is this board will be as good or better than the DFI, with better memory power and more features. That board seems to have relatively few who can't make 205x9-20 or 190x21, with most seeming to be able to hit 200x21.

Soon i'll be using my bloodrage for my workstaton, Love it, it a fantastic board.

Then i'm getting the classified for my benching/gamer

Good timing, i was looking at the P6T6 Revolution for the extra PCIe Slots... but before that, i was looking at the eVGA board... now it looks like i can get both...

Not to drift of the topic (but i will for a moment). Most encoding must be done in a 'series' format. For example,most encoders work from one frame to the next, the only parrellel method i can think of would be to do each (3) colour channels seperately in parallel then combine them in the end. Even then, a quad core CPU should be enough to handle that...

It would be pretty impressive to see someone come up with an encoder (even if its not that good at first) come up with a method of encoding in parallel.
