honestly though, there are a lot of boards where they show a multiplier option in the bios and it can't actually be changed. Remember the old palamino's. They were hard locked but there were options in the bios to change multi.

Also there are a lot of P4 boards out there that have a multi option.

Unless all A64 cpu's were unlocked from the factory(are they?) would I be upset by not being able to change the multi. Just my opinion.

BTW guy's, thanks for the info. This is great stuff. After beta testing:p early NF2's and Canterwood's, I am taking a break, and seeing what is out there first before I buy. Maybe after a revision, I'll pick one up. I am still happy playing with my P4;)

Everyone with an A64 and especially the FX51 are beta testers right now !

Just be patient and keep trying ! it won't be long b4 Abit and Asus will get the bios right and all will be gravy !:D

Just two more things before I sign off

1) My new Mushkin Black Level 2 PC3500 does not seem as good as my old Corsair XMS PC3500 ..gave errors at 230 2-5-2-2 @3.1v but this may be because it is new. Also one stick would not fit in the damn slot at all, though it fittedf ok in my Canterwood, maybe suggesting the Abit slots are slightly tight, like Epox . Corsair fits fine

2) The UGURU will drive you crazy, any change in the BIOS sets the siren off and only the Windows utility turns it off:D

Imagine this.

You go to far
You corrupt windows
You have to install the whole OS and UGURU before you can get rid of the siren !!!

Nooo, surely there must be a way of silencing it ?

In summary, this board has some peculiarities but needs a phase change guy to see whether 300FSB can be reached and whether it is THE board.

Randi, Opp, Macci, Jason, Quad, JCViggen, Major, etc etc .. take this board to the Xtreme ;)

by the way, my multipliers are unlocked from 4-10 with clockgen.
its a very odd program thats in severe beta mode cause it reads almost nothing correct, but what it can do is very helpful if somewhat alittle strange...

using the multipliers in windows I have to set it to say 6, then reboot, then go into bios and check the actual CPU speed, if the 6 muplier held, it will say 1200 mhz (6x200) then I can adjust the voltage, FSB, ram ratio and everything to just about anything I want, but it's far from reliable...
see, I can get my ram to 250@1:1 super easy, but only at 4X.
if I say get 250 at 1:1 then adjust the multiplier once in windows, it freezes immediatly.
theres alot of potential here, just at the extreme beta phase this programs hard as hell to run reliably, but IT IS better then Nothing Right :)

whats teh best proggie for burning in , the mem , hyperx 3200, its not the 3200a so this should be bh-5 chips. Spd settings are 2,2,2,6, so pretty sure it is, but its not at all stable there. Could be mobo i guess. Anyway, sisoft burn in only uses up 350mb by the looks of task manager, so any proggie that will use the full 512? i've actually never used prime before, always other apps, will it use 512mb, i dl'd it but have no clue what to do.

AS for the siren, sorry you found it m8, i agree, its a complete, complete pain in the ass. At this point in time, either new bios comes oiut asap and fixes a lotta stuff, or i find one tweak that gives me higher fsb, it goes back, or final option, i put up with it and freaking rip that speaker off the mainboard, stamp on it, burn it, dremel it and send it to abit in pieces with hate mail. :p

is there any workaround for the 233fsb issue yet ?

i can run 232 1:1 2-2-2 8x agp 800mhz ht without any problem

and i know my cpu would do more for sure

but as soon as i set 233fsb+ it wont even post doesnt matter what settings i change

well, at the mo its looking like, from zak's and my testing that with his nvidia gfx card, he also can't boot past 233 in the bios, IE the bios must be trying 1/7 divider and it just ain't working, same for me. however in windows with the OC utility he can pass this up to 240Mhz(chip limited i think), i assume without triggering the 1/7 divider hence it working. With my radeon, this won't work though, i'm assuming down to high agp bus speed.

I've been wanting to order this inno 3d 5900 as i found it for £155, which ain't bad, and gives me a chance to play with one. I'm ordering through friend who gest me discount, so as soon as i can get in touch with him, i'll have teh card next day and test that out.


At the mo the 1/7 divider is looking a pipedream. AS good as 240 1:1 that zak has is, as i understand it, he has to either slow down the OC from windows before rebooting, turning off or bios will enforce new settings, which means none working reboot, insert holding and stupid dumb alarm going off again, which is gonna get very irritating.

is there anything available where i can set the fsb in windows for the abit kv8 ? except guru

Just some new things to mention

1) I managed to run pifast , Super pi and cpumark at 245x10 = 2450Mhz

2) I managed to keep 250x10 running for about 10s before lock up

3) I can run 3dmark at 235-238 x 10.

4) Using 266RAM speed I get the same as above so showing it is either motherboard or cpu.

5) I have not yet had any file corruption, even at 250 speed ( which on a 6 divider would be 41.6Mhz .

6) Actually I now reboot at above 233Mhz and it has rebooted OK, ie 240x10 rebooted fine and no sirens. The sirens seem to be dieing down


From my testing I get the feeling I have reached the cpu limits as it tails off in stability as you would if your cpu was nearing the limit, after all 2380-2450 on air is pretty good for these AMD64's at present.

i wasnt able to run it above 232 stable in 1:1

5:4 and any setting on the ht bus or whatever didnt help

increasing ht voltage vcore vagp or vdimm didnt help too

today testing it with my old geforce3

maybe i get some better results

well i will vmod my shuttle this week anyway and the radeon too

gonna be an exciting weekend ;)

before i get some expensive stuff like another promi or vapochill to cool my radeon i will first give it a try with a tec and water cooling though ;)

thing that worked for me, cut the HT speed from 800 to 600 but leave it at 16 bit.

I got zero loss of 3dmark points, but was able to squeeze another 60 mhz outta the CPU for a final stable speed of 2450 on 3dmark2001se.

This looks like a very nice board. Perhaps I'll give Abit another try... *cringe*.
