I am having a professional to do the soldering tomorrow. Is it settled that the 50K variable resistor is the one for the Vdroop mod? No matter, as I can just have the wires leading to the resistor soldered and I can solder the VR. Just wanted to know that the 50K is the one.
50k will definitely work...20k will likely work as well. hell, 10k is probably more than enough.
there are dozens of grounds everywhere...just use a multimeter and check for resistance on various points with ground. for my vCORE, i used the one circled in red. its a vacant transistor pad and easy to solder to.

just an FYI, the 790i FTW that will be coming out with will have load line calibration like the ASUS boards. I got that verified by an EVGA tech yesterday. It doesn't help me and I probably won't buy another 790i chipset before a new chipset comes along, but it should come out in the next board for those who have money to burn.

Mod works realy fine! Voltage before: 2.29 kOhm
Voltage after deleting VDroop: 0.590 kOhm
Realy hard work to tune the VR to the right value
what value VR did you use? 50K is a bit high and makes for tougher adjustment, that is why i have been suggesting 20K.
also, i see you have vCORE done as well...what value VR are you using for that? TIA
50 K verified. I turned it down to 7 K before the mod was installed and had to turn it a couple of times to get a flatline after it was installed. I assume it's around 5-6k. 4ghz at 1.27 volts aint too bad!

It's just the one VR needed for the vdroop mod isn't it? I've got a bag of them ready and waiting.:D Two wires going to the resistor. What about ground?

No ground needed but the resistor is soooo small. I had a professional do it under a microscope so not to foul up the resistor. I am also getting 1.44 volts for 4.5 ghz.
misunderstood. Solder to each side of the resistor. Is that what you are asking?

i bet zborg@#^%@# had the 50K VR turned down a fair bit and was hitting OVP and now blames us for suggesting a 50K vcore turnpot :p:

yesterday we had a little LN2 action
and I must say, vdroop mod realy suxx wenn y go realy cold.
We had so much problems because of the vdroop mod, we must disable this to get some scores!
I think I will sell my board because I need a board with more stable voltage for some 3D LN2 fun
After poking around for a while I am no closer to understanding the location/identity of the (assumed to be present) clock generator:confused:. I looked up half a dozen IC's, nothing though. Of course I am trying to escape the use of ntune for strap exploration as I have found it very buggy:shrug::down:.
any thoughts? :)

XFX board, 50K for vCore and vDroop. 20K for SPP.

i'm with Dino, if you did the vDROOP, then a rookie with the irons you are not. and the mods look real good. your board should be all ready to scream now.

This is only the 4th time I've done a volt mod, 1st was a 8400GS. 2nd a P5E. 3rd 9800GX2 RIP :( (didn't die from the mods) and now this .
All in the last 3 or 4 months, before that I'd never used a soldering iron.
Though I read alot and have very steady hands.
