Asus P5K "Vanilla" vmods

Hi, first post here. :)

erm - a few people have mentioned FSB walls and CPU PLL voltage.

Well i have a wall at just over 340~mhz. And its really frustrating. So i tried the pencil mod post in this thread to increase CPU PLL voltage and it hasn't helped - i am reluctant to pencil in the resistor anymore because i don't actually know exactly what the CPU PLL is ? i believe its a chip or similar that all other frequencies are based off ? (a reference clock if you like) ? that right.

Also what is the max safe voltage for it?

and any other ideas on overcoming this FSB wall?

and one last thing.. Does afudos allow you to force a bios flash? (want to try taking bios back a few versions)

You find that out with multiple mbs and cpus. If max fsb is same or close on 2 boards, chances are you at cpu fsb wall.

you lower your multi,if you can't go higher then 511FSB,then with the lowered multi,raise de NB voltage if even then it won't go up then 511FSB then it's the board and the chip:D

How well would a voltmodded P5K vanilla match up against a P5K premium for the purposes of LN2/Dice benching? (CPU and single GPU pots)

Assume the P5K premium has any necesarry volt mods as well......

I think they would be about the same, except a quad would be too much for the 3 phase VRM.

Im sorry, I dont understand what you mean by '3 phase VRM'

VR I assume is variable resistor? What does 3 phase and the M in VRM mean?

VRM is the area that regulates voltage to the cpu. IN this case, vrm = voltage regulation Module, which is the clusters of capacitors, mosfets and inductors. one cluster = one phase. THere are 3 clusters of 'em in the socket area so therefor, 3 phase vrm.

P5K mobos can run fsb 650+mhz easy without mods and stock nb cooling :)

I read all 5 pages, so can some one post pics wit two point for mem voltage read , and vmem mod please ( i had found tree vmods for mem, but do not knew who is working better)?

Agreed with space master. I'm trying to start vmodding my P5k vanilla, but this thread is so cluttered with info that I don't know what is right and what is wrong. It would be extremely helpful if one f you more experienced guys could start a new thread with all this inf organized some how. I don't need a guide per say, but I do need some sort f reference and this thread is just too bogged down.

Just take a regular #2 pencil and put the point on the resistor and fill it in with the pencil lead from one end to the other of the resistor. The lead from the pencil is what makes the vdroop work like it suppose to. the pencil i recommend because one you can wipe it off if you don't want to use it anymore and it takes maybe 20 seconds to do. That is if you have a steady hand and good eyes.


my quetion is how many power phase in this mobo.
3 or 6 and why this mobo. suffer from high vdroop mor than GA-P35-DS3R from gigabyte

we are searching for vmem mod and the read point not for vdroop modd :)

like GA-P35-DS3R from gigabyte so vdroop in it very high

yes it's 3 phaze PWM but with simple pencil modd you can rid off that droop.

look, 6 phase PWM must be better than 3 phase PWM. The solution with connecting MOSFETs and NB , IMO is stupid. You'll get different results if you testing these two mobo's with quad core and dual core. At least, DS3-R must be "colder" than P5K because of the volume of Cu heatsink on NB and 6 phase PWM

can anybody make some file with all mod's for Vanilla, upload and send me on PM?

vCore & vDrop
vDimm -how far can you go with these mod?
vCPU PLL

Measure:

vCore
vFSB,vPLL,vMCH & vRAM
GTL ref

It helps you get higher FSB if you are FSB limited :D

Be carefull with the pll mod, that will kill your cpu faster than too much vcore, also, if you do the vcore ocp mod you need to make that your only vcore mod, do not use it with a traditional vcore mod.... choose one or the other. The vcore ocp is only needed if you want more than 1.96vcore.

Guys... as Masell pointed out earlier in this thread, a P5K vanilla board is easily capable of 600+ fsb without mods and on stock nb cooling. Unless you plan to run at least a single stage phase change, you don't need anything except vdroop and maybe vdimm. My vanilla has all the mods done to it and I've benched my E8400 up to a max of 5.4ghz (600fsb X 9multi) and the only mods used were vdroop and vdimm, at that fsb I'm still running with all settings on "auto" except for vcore and vdimm. The point is, mods won't make your cpu clock higher, if you aren't getting 600fsb without mods, chances you won't get it with them. ;)

I thought there were 2 pll voltages, one for the clockgen on the board and one for the internal one in the CPU?

Also afaik the OCP mod linked doesnt increase Vcpu, so you would need the Vcpu mod as well

Read post #70 of this thread. I don't think you did the mod correctly if you couldn't increase vcore with this mod, are you running both vcore mods?
