Well...as I've mentioned it...I'm planning on getting the PC3500 memory from Corsair...but now somewhat confussed. I don't know if the OCZ EL DDR PC-3500 Memory is the better choice. It also has 4.5ns memory instead of 5ns on the Corsair 3500. I've read reviews on the OCZ getting to 490 on normal and max timings...but at 2.8 volts! The only problem is if its compatible with this board (A7N8X Deluxe)...like will it go high as it says. So does anyone have this memory with this board, if so...whats the norm on o/c the FSB w/ the 1002.001?
Also...sysfailure, or anybody, what is one of the stablier FSB you have with your memory....and the most voltage of 2.8v ;)
Currently the "norm" for FSB overclocking A7N8X seems to be between 185 MHz and 210 MHz or so. Few have gone higher.Quote:

I'm running a 256MB stick of Corsair XMS3500 with an A7N8X (non-deluxe). I've had very good results, right now I am running at 213mhz FSB with 2-2-4-2 memory timing at 2.8V. It is stable at 2-2-6-2 up to 225mhz, and usable at 233mhz. It posts at 236.Quote:

I posted some benchmarks in this thread
hi there
i own a a7n8x deluxe with 2*256 Mo pc3200 corsair with a 2600 (fsb 333)
i'm not o/c addicted at all, but just want the best of this stuff
could u give me the right optimum and stable settings plz ...
i've read this topic, but english is not my mother's tongue, i miss many things
i don't get ur (2-2-6-2 for exemple) mem settings, the order seems different on the asus bios (i'm actually on the G one)
i've tried to adjust my settings, but the results in sandra pro are far from urs
thx for ur time & patience
;)
You shall run your memory in Sync mode, nothing else. And I think the order in the Asus BIOS is 6-2-2-CAS2.Quote:

@ 2.8v you should be able to max the northbridge before your memory (because the northbridge needs more voltage).Quote:

On my personal setup, if I want to use audio I have to keep it @ 200mhz fsb. And I can hit that @ stock voltage if I want.
hi guys,
i'm also looking on buying some new ram tomorrow my pc2700 samsungs is not cutting it anymore, I'm really thinking on getting the corsair pc3500, but will 256m be enough for gaming or would it be a whole diffirence with 512m,
I just see that the top benchmarks at 3dmark, all the top ones only use 256m sticks,
any suggestions would be apreciated, thanks:rolleyes:
edit: also guys I try the new mbm5 and it gives me some below zero are they accurate, I know I'm below zero but haven't put a probe on the processor to check actual temps, tnx
As I have posted many time in other threads, I'm running 3 sticks 256-256-512(in channel 3 which is farthest from CPU) with this A7N8X and got a 3dMark of 18,150 published with no volt modding.
Hello I got some problems here :(
#1 :) I can get 200 system bus, with 10 multi beta bios let's you ajust unlocked :) but I can't get my xms 3500 memory to post unless I put it down to 75% that means in single channel mode I only got 150@ c2-2-2 5-?-? 2100 mb's of memory bandwidth :(
#2 I can get 180 in sync C2.5-2-2 8-?-? but as soon as I raise the fsb I conk out.
seems like alot of ppl are having a problem with corsair xms memory with this board :(
so I have a question if I got 2100 mb/s now how much will I have with a second stick in dual channel mode?
@ async 150 c2-2-2 5-1-1 sinceI already have one:( and I already ordered the second one i'm sort of stuck unless I can find someone that needs the corsair mem for a P4 system
But if I can get myself 3200 mb/s in dual channel mode it might be worth it anyone ever try running async downwards from the fsb?
BTW the new beta bios supports 10x and xp 2400 without unlocking the processor 1002.001 lol

hi there, sorry but duel won't help that much, amd doesn't take advantage of the duel setup that much, are you sure you try everything with the memory?
LOL...its Dual! :stick: (I think...if were talking about the Nforce2 Dual option)Quote:

But if the memory is smaller and your going at a fraction of the bus speed maybe it will work anyone tried using pc 2100 memory,
and a 200 fsb with a dual option ? let me know maybe there we will be able to take advantage of the dual and forget all this expensive memory LOL of course this will only work with a higher bus speed.
terramir
it works, but you dont get optimal bandwith, but yes, it works "ok" heh
/Damir
ok I'm screwed xp 2400, 10.0x 200Mhz and two sticks of xms 3500 memory 512 mb each :( one the one I had before XMS 3500 c2 v1.1 the one I ordered before I got this board man what a mistake XMS 3502 c2 v1.1
ok I can only run this if I have the memory set to 66% 133 mhz and I end up with 2400 mb/s and 2160 or something :( ok this suc**, forget xms 3500 on this board or I'm doing something terribly wrong someone tell me guys also any succesful runs with 200 in sync ????? which memory ?

Horrendously big (in size) pic. Sorry... will fix later.
Getting ready for pelt on chipset, and cpu super cooling.

LOL...I'm assuming that's not a bloody mess, but something you are doing intentionally. Shows how much I don't know.
Beginning to look like his Epox board he showed b4.....
Minty!!!!!:toast:
Intentional ;) Best protection for the mobo if you ask me.
A: You can see it.
B: You can peel it off if you fry it (although I've sent 2 boards back to newegg like this and they've taken them).
C: You can see for sure what stuff you're protecting and what you're not. I noticed this was a problem w/ silicone. I would miss certain spots or not see it.
More pics (and testing) today.
blood?
I would like to know to protect mine too;)
if its the above, i got an extra friend that right know don't need:slash:
MAN !! WHAT HAVE YOU KILLED ?!!? So much Blood !! You are a Freddy Krueger !! I will tell do the FBI !!
Right now I'm @ 190mhz fsb, just seeing what my temps are... I'm @ -2.8C and I've been Prime95'ing for an hour. That is chipset temps (back of mobo probe taped to mobo).
Not really sure what your problem is. I can run 200 in synch, yes. Well actually right now I'm having problems of my own, but it's not like yours.Quote:

XMS 3500 should be able to handle 200mhz no prob. Try the modules in another board individually and make sure each stick of ram is performing properly. If they aren't then get replacements :)
hey sysfailure you live in la lol because I don't have another board that can take 200 fsb or ddr memory at the moment LOL

Sys...just out of curiosity, what is that red crap you annointed your virgin mobo in? Not that I'm gonna ever doing anything like that, but just curious.
Do you ever put that mobo in a case and just close it all up and say: "OK It's done!" ?? LOL!
Also I've been meaning to tell you that every time I see your Plat Plus picture, it reminds me of being at a birthday party with all the kids wearing those cone-shaped b-day hats, with you sitting proud saying: "Yeah it's my birthday....look at all the money I got for presents" Good visual huh?
Looks like Liquid Tape........ that stuff is awesome.... like he said you can peel it right off( try doing that with silicone).
I might have what your after..... :D

And put it in a case? Soon enough! I'm working on modding the case and then yes I will put it in a case. 90% of the time though my computer is out of a case... What can I say. I'm a modding addict.
And ya know bout the birthday party bit, I don't know when the last time was I had a birthday party :( *cries* I gave up after having two b-day parties which had a car accident happen right outside the place I was having the party each time. One of the times it was the owner of the skating rink I was gonna have my part. *sigh* Now I just get a present and a pat on my back from my folks :P
Shadco: I will give that bios a shot. I am kinda confused though, the 1002 bios (unmodded) before my resoldering of volt mods and my pelt on the nf2 was letting me do 200mhz stable (for like 30-60minutes but then the sound would give out. Now 190mhz was iffy. I disabled the S-ATA raid, but I will give this new bios a shot.
My OS is toast right now, so I will use a THIRD brand of hard drive and see if that makes a difference :P I couldn't even use "FIXBOOT" or "FIXMBR" to fix the OS. Deffinitely f'ed it up royally.
Time to write some Zero's on those puppies

1001E_C.ZIP A7N8X ACPI BIOS 1001.E final

Have a look at ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/nforce2/
Not replying to myself, but they have released a patch for MBM5 for the Asus A7N8X here that actually seems to work. MBMA7N8X.zip
sensor 1 = Asus 1 = case
sensor 2 = Asus 2 = cpu socket
sensor 3 = W83L785TS-S or W83L785TS-S Diode for your CPU
Note: Please DO NOT select both the W83L785TS-S and W83L785TS-S Diode and remember 5.2.2.0 needs to be installed
I just noticed that ASUS has removed the 1002 Beta 004 bios from their FTP server and replaced it with 1002 Beta 003.
Anybody know why? I'm going to downgrade and see what happens (after I hack it up with modbin6 first :D )
edit: duh, I was only checking the asus.com.tw mirror, bete004 is still on their european server.
Because like I said in that other thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...5&pagenumber=3 there have been many problems with it not working, and causing more problems discussed in a number of other forums and threads here. It's a crap release, as was 2001-G
sysfailur:::I have downloaded a modded bios from the 1002.001 bios.
It has the 4.2.0.0 SATA bios from the latest Abit nForce bios, also has a lot of modding on the operation of the bios itself.
I am not the guy that did the modding.
Just to let you know.
I have installed this bios and all is well.
I am having a better & smoother operating system.
I am not a radical OC'er but I do enjoy a really good performing system.
I will email this to you if you would like to try it.
I can get the link to the guy that did the modding so you can look at the items he worked on.
Hey, just wondering i've been considering throwing a pelt on my chipset, NB and was wonderin what anyone recommends as far as wattage goes???.....also brands...haven't used pelts yet but considering the prommie's in the mail i feel the rest of the system should step up..
Oie, that'd be cool. Plz mail me it @ zack@maximumoc.com thx!Quote:

Hey what's the diff between 1002.001 to 1002.003 and performance and memory differences let me know

No clue, I tried 003 today and it worked "OK".... something else is messed up on my board other than the bios. *sob*Quote:

Those beta ones, .003 , .004, and the modded .004, really sucked for me! Its just my setup I guess...but when I tried setting the multiplier other than 15...it was locked at 7, but this is, or could be, due to the fact that I had the wire unlocking the 2400+ under the cpu. Then out of no where...it worked...lol...go figure! But soon after...it didn't  . But still, I want to get higher FSB with my one 256 stick of Corsair PC3500...the other is coming probally mon. or tues....but all I can get is 204 at 2-2-4-2 in windows...but i can post at 211 and such...but no windows. I even tried the voltage upping on that modded bios...and it was a no go!
Your probally going to kill me for this...but my friend needs a Nforce2 badly and he might buy mine from me and I'm getting the Epox 8RDA+ :( . It has higher voltages and can get higher O/Cs on the FSB. And I'm not to fond of doing mods on the board...rather just get one that is already done. And speaking of which...does any body know whats the current revision of the 8RDA+ on www.newegg.com ??? (I may be asking in the wrong forums....lol!)
Just thought I post a picture of my current o/c on this board with a 2400+ AIUHB - 0249WPAW at 2400mhz at 1.725v. I can get 2500mhz at 1.825v.
And here is the one at 2500mhz at 1.825v. I can post in the bios at 2600mhz at 1.85v...but it can't boot into windows! :(
I agree with Retupmoc about those other .003 & .004 versions. I settled on 1002.001
Nice 200FSB shots there too!
The breaking news if this thread is still alive, is the battery in the board is suspected fubar....stability down the toilet and failed bios flashes. Flakey comes to mind. The mobo battery should be pitched and voila some improvement to some...I don't have this board but always wondered why it wasn't totally top dog. Can someone try this and see if the problem was a faulty battery?
linkage http://www.overclockers.com/
scroll down to Are You A Frustrated A7N8X User convinced you have a John Wayne BIOS; it's rough, it's tough, and it don't take §§§§ settings from nobody?
Some have said the beta BIOS 1002.001 helps. More interestingly, others have found changing the battery does the trick.
Thanks...who would have thought a new mobo needs a new battery. It might have been ASUS using from an old box, or Maxell shipping them an old supply if that's the issue. I'll probably pick one up at Radio Shack just for the hell of it, even though I don't have any mobo problems. Not gonna hurt anything.
Well! Those are the exact probs I'm having, I'll get me a new battery and hopefully that'll fix it... dunno bout the messed up sound... but I'll still give it a shot!
i've been sifting through this thread but i've given up on p10.
can someone confirm or deny that the asus a7n8x has the 4 mounting holes. i read someone suggest as if it wouldn't have em. but looking at the vague close-up on the asus site seems to show those mounting holes.
Heheh yeah it's got it. Abit on the other hand dunt.
:toast:
pfiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
just ordered it and got the impression that it wouldn't have 'em. now that would have sucked some major ass.
i can't believe that the oc'ers dream abit wouldn't have em holes.
LOL
DISSOLVED'S ABIT HAS HOLES!
In other news, I put a new battery in... the power of the energizer bunny has me @ 240mhz 2-6-2-2 in the bios right now. I will install OS tomorrow. Gonna let it @ 240mhz overnight in bios.
And this is the results of a new battery? I can boot at 210 or less...but can't seem to boot into windows. So the new battery trick might let me go higher on my FSB?Quote:

It might be...see post 466...there's been some bad batteries.
I believe the key of the battery issue is that the §§§§e battery that Asus gave is like 2.95V where-as a nice energizer battery was giving me 3.31V (and it's rated @ 3V just like the one that came w/ the comp). Got mine @ K-Mart.
This is hilarious, I've now overvolted the cpu, memory, chipset, gpu, gpu mem, power supply, and now a freaking BATTERY!
So Sys...does it improve stability or o/c any better??
ASUS A7N8X ACPI BIOS Rev 1017 Beta 005 T0
during post, it says 1001.G
at first i was running 8x with fsb@193, now i can't even change the multiplier
7x with fsb@100 doesn't work WTF
This has to be the most amazing and stupid thing I have ever heard about with sending out a new MOBO without checking the quality of the CMOS battery. OMG.....major points off to ASUS for stupidity in marketing and product image, no matter what else is good about the A7N8X. I'm glad it's helping people with so easy of a fix, but OMG talk about having your corporate head up your ass when rolling out a new major product line.
BobDole....the "G" is one of the suckass BIOS rev's. Dump it.
OK Points off asus or Corsair that is the situation with me:(
I can reach a fsb of 200 in async memory at 150 mhz :(
in sync I can post halfway through 200 but it get's stuck :(
I can at 181 in sync and boot the best memory results I've had as of yet :p
Nevertheless I will see in the next few days how high I can actually push it BTW 1002.001 bios beta 2x corsair xms 3500 c2 xp 2400 not oc'ed that much maybe 5 to 10 mhz at the most depending on the frequency /multiplier combination

Alright...I just got a little more pissed!
I had one 256 module of Corsair PC3500 running fine. It has a hologram sticker on it saying what it is...click here for a picture. And now I just got my other stick in and it looks like the rest of em...with the little white sticker. Should I try to get newegg to try to send me another one with a hologram sticker on it...if in any case thats the problem. It runs fine at slots 1 and 2...but thats not dual mode. When ran at 1 and 3, and 2 and 3, it boots up...but it has problems and stutters....and then eventually locks up. But could this be the A7N8X board or the memory?
BTW...I tried 4-2-2-2 and 5-2-2-2 at 200FSB and both came out with the same results.
Aren't those cmos batteries supposed to be good for 5 years??
The ones in these boards must be defective, old or both.
Try a new battery. :) I was getting all sorts of crazy bios errors until I installed the new batt.Quote:

Let's play count the variable resistors! :P (5 are hidden btw) Also note the temp--that is the back of the mobo under the chipset.
http://www.maximumoc.com/img/hardwar...test_setup.jpg
Hey sysfailur...You have the 1002.001 with the NB voltage mod on it...i though he only made the 1002.004 or whatever with it. So your bios is the same as 1002.001 but with the mod and possibly other stuff?
OR wait...is that the same thing as the 1002.003/4?
OMG...is that a new Ice Cream Making machine or what? That is so funny after all this time to still see your virgin MOBO laying out in the open spread eagle. Come on sys, you popped her cherry, let's put some clothes on her, and into a case so she can fulfill her destiny! LOL Wait...maybe you don't actually have a PC case.
The 1002.004 was causing a lot of problems, and most of the Uber modifications like NB chip adjustment did not work on actual meter testing. I think most are using ASUS-Beta 1002.001
He did come out with the 1002.001 Uber first. Many of us have it if you need it.
OK, will try the bios battery thing, but a question what kind is it?
PLZ tell me the #'s on there asap.
also one more thing for sysfailure here? what's up with your cooling there?
you cool the cpu with a square air cooler and ya water cool the north bridge? hey the northbridge should be just fine with some arctic silver 3 and a zalman bracket hanging over it :p
And get yourself a thermalright slk-800 everything else drools LOL (my opinion)

Hahah you make me laugh man. :P My A7N8X hasn't seen a case since I got her!!!! I like my women lying naked on the table (and my mobos too)!Quote:

The 1002.004 was causing a lot of problems, and most of the Uber modifications like NB chip adjustment did not work on actual meter testing. I think most are using ASUS-Beta 1002.001
I do have a case though!!! It's being modded right now though ;)
Some pics of that here: http://www.maximumoc.com/img/hardwar...r/halfwaythere
@ Retupmoc: As Mikee says, the NB setting doesn't work. The bios I'm using was the first one to be modded, so I've stuck with it. I couldn't find the 1002.001 bios normal, but I had the 1002.001 UBER bios on a floppy, so I just popped that back in... I had the 1002.004 in previously and that didn't do much good.
@ terramir: There is a number on the batter like 2302 I think or something. You need that number, and you need a 3v. Just take out the battery and go to the store, match it up :)
The cooling on the northbridge is an 85w pelt, watercooled. The yellow watercooler is just a big resivoir and I'm using my lytron radiator (which is duct-taped to the watercooler) being cooled by a 30" house fan @ medium speed. The pelt cooling does help though... as I said I've had the pelt running on the chipset @ 240mhz now overnight and I'm now @ 1C. This is 1.8v on the chipset.
Lastly, I know I know I should have watercooling or som contraption hooked up to the cpu, but I just use a normal heatsink while testing FSB speeds. I'm picking up some waterblocks tomorrow from Gemini Cool which I'll be testing out so in pics now on most likely you'll see a Gemini Cool block on the cpu :) I also ordered myself a Thermalright Sk-7 and 80mm Tornado fan... so I'll have that for the CPU now instead of the Vantec Areoflow.
WHEH this was a large post :P
LOL loked at the manual :p it's 2032 LOL
As for that bios I have it at home somewhere if ya need the original and correction 183 mhz freezes up some times so not stable 183 dcddr xp2400 so 2014 mhz not stable somehow anyhow might need hust to bump it down a mhz or two since it seemed fairly stable to me my grl said it locked up on her twice.
I'll get a new battery today and since I can boot into windows 183X 11.0 and I can boot into the bios 200@10.0 sync and then get stuck it must mean maybe one of these sticks are holding me back
maybe rma one :p
terramir
grrr and yuppie at the same time
#1 I had to turn it down to 174 x 11.5 to get it solid :( , but then again on a brighter note I finally hit the 10k on 3d marks :)
and that is at default gforce speeds :)

Well... this is fun! I haven't done the OS yet. I'm basically just testing OS stability at this point, as before I wasn't stable @ all....
I'm currently @ 245mhz FSB @ max 2-6-2-2. MMMmmm. YES. All that's left is 250mhz. And I felt that was pushing my luck so I didn't try for it. Tomorrow after I get back from picking up Gemini Blocks I will put it to 250mhz for §§§§s and giggles.
*high five's new battery*
I didn't take a digicam shot, but I didn't really feel the need. Trust me, it's there :P
After now a full day and and 5 hours or so temps on back of mobo under NF2 chip is @ -0.8C.
I'm thinking..... if she's stable in the bios @ 245, she's gotta be stable in windows @ 233-240 eh? I mean.. she's GOTTA :P
I have a question about this battery fiasco. How the hell can a tiny 3v CMOS backup battery have any impact on a system that is being powered off AC while running?
I could see it causing an issue if the BIOS was not holding the settings, but there was another person crazy enough to replace the CMOS battery when he powered off the system, but left it plugged in (so the MOBO power indicator light below the PCI slots was on), and reportedly his BIOS readings were preserved.
Even if the idea is that there is some kind of isolated bios settings subsystem always generated off the CMOS battery, it also doesn't seem like it would be able to last the 5-7 years if it was actively being used all the time.
I wonder if anyone knows a reasonable explanation for this.
Hey Mikee, I dunno what the hell is causing the prob. But I'm liking the results :)
250mhz cas-2-6-2-2 @ 1.85v chipset, 3.15V DDR
Looks like I need a new bios! :hehe:
http://www.maximumoc.com/img/hardwar...0mhz_maxed.jpg
Holy §§§§.....That's incredible for this horrible POS ASUS board we are both stuck with !!! LOL WOW!!! But I still wonder why a CMOS battery would affect that, ya know? But I'm now gonna go get a new one even though mine is apparently ok too
YES, thats just awesome.
I am lokking for an new cpu so my OCZ´s can do what they are best at! :D
Nice pic sysfailur ;)
/Steffan
Thank ya, and to let you guys know, like all the previous mhz frequencies, it's perfectly stable in the bios. I didn't mention that, but it's not like I just grabbed the digipic and it's not working. I have it going @ that overnight now ;)
WTG Sys! ... Load that os and lets see what she can do!!
Ok, this is getting interresting!
Do u guys think all the voltmodds are nessesary for these high FSB runs?
I would like to keep my board as stock, but if volmodding is nessesary ill do it.
/Steffan
Ok didn't help me one bit overclocking my FSB that is I changed the battery last night and no dice :( I must have one bad mem module there somehow grrrrrr Running 2 512 mb corsair xms 3500 c2 grr can't get it to run @ 200 in sync highest I can push it is 184 and that is unstable grr highest stable 174 x 11.5 x but I can run it at 200 x 10.0x rock stable with 75% mem speed this is strange :s
terramir
I'm going home and taking the mem modules and testing them seperately
lets see, which one can go higher and the otherone is being rma'ed first grrrr
Did you try setting the FSB jumper to 100 MHz?Quote:

Dude...turn that font down buddy...lol...or maybe its just me...but its freak'n huge!
I think we got the point on the mega-mega sized signature there Pjotr, ;-) but what jumper are you talking about?
The only jumper I am aware of is the one on page 21 called "CPU_FSB" that allows FSB 333/266 (default) or FSB 200 only. Maybe the 200 is the effect with the dual memory channel?
I have not seen anyone suggesting moving that jumper, and have not myself, so I'm wondering why you said that.
Hey Terramir, could you also say your system setup for:
- Which memory slots you are using (slot 1 is closest to CPU; slots 1&2 are for memory channel one; slot 3 is for mem. channel two).
- Which BIOS
- What voltage, mem timings.
- Which power supply (type & watts).
- Which BIOS devices do you have enabled/disabled like onboard sound, USB-2, IEEE, etc.
- If you reset the CMOS, what BIOS FSB shows up as default?
- What do you mean when you say "it doesn't work" Do you mean you cannot POST, get into windows, run benchmarks, run games, etc.
I have always run mine at 100%, and am now using 1002.001 (not Uber) (or in 1001-C, it was called 'sync')
Tried that actually that was worse not better :(,
I will be doing some tests tonight and I will get back to you guys tommorow grrr
one of these sticks is going back maybe both.
terramir
You want to install your memory sticks into slot 2&3 or for best performance (according to ASUS) into slots 1&3.
Never install the memory into slots 1&2 for dual memory.
We have been in the computer business (off & on) since 1989. Guess we have expierenced about everything that could be expierenced. These new nForce mobo's are really great. Especially the ASUS line, why not get all the bells and whistles if you are gonna go for the whole pie.
I like the dual NIC's,8 USB ports, onboard sound that is good. (I hope the new mobo coming tomorrow has all the surround sound channels)
That is the only fault I have found with the mobo we have at present. This was one of the first nForce2 mobo produced by ASUS when they first was available.
Never a boot problem, never a BSOD, never a lockup, all the games play extremely smooth.
Performance is great, I tweak the memory a little and set the voltage at 2.8v.
That is all that is necessary on this mobo.
Why in your part are you sweating this so much?
Assemble, powerup, tweak, and enjoy after a good burnin period.
For an average user, yes. For me that's not enough :PQuote:

You mean you don't work for Gateway Sys? Don't burst my bubble!!! LOL!
Also BobyJo, most have found that slots 2&3 give better performance than 1&3. I don't know why, just reporting on having read that in many many posts. I have become suspect at hearing advice from ASUS when seeing their progressive BIOS releases get worse.
1001-C was ok, 1001-E was not quite as stable, 1001-G was horrible. Next came their Beta's 1002.001 was great! 1002.003 Beta was not as stable, 1002.004 was horrible.
Prior to their Final 1002 version, most either used 1001-C or 1002.001 Beta. I am not likely to bother with their final 1002 unless others report dramatic improvements.
Finally, there is a problem with their CMOS Maxell batteries that they have not pro-actively acknowledged, and that measures lower than the 3.0 V battery characteristic.
While I believe it is still the best overall MOBO, and am glad I got it, ASUS doesn't have a good track record before this MOBO when it comes to OC'ing and features....it is the silicon radicals like DD Tung, SysFailur, Mr. Icee and others that are uncovering the good, bad, and fixes. God Bless 'em.
Well I am running the Uber1002 bios and find it very interesting. At the least I like it enough to leave the computer running with it.
Sysfailure::Don't take me wrong, I can tweak everything as well as most.
I just don't express that to the general public. I do not deliver a system OC'ed.
That is up to the owner, if he wants to see how high the moon is, after he takes over the system.
He can do about whatever he wants as long as he does not open the case, the warranty is usually still entact.
I only use the best quality components, and I know how far I can push the system in benchs, I do enclude a performance sheet. Explaining the maximum performance we found in our shop.
Also explain as the system is used it will began to perform better with use. Sorta like breaking in a new car.
I have had a customer ask me to build a system for him and OC' to the max before shipping to him.
I simply refused to build the system for him due to the fact he did not understand any principals of tweaking or OC'ing a computer. Were probably more than likely on the same side of the street, you may be taking the corners faster than I do.
GRRRRRR I benched both sticks and both crapped out around 184 sync and I'm not oC'ing the processor or the videocard agp bus mem voltage 2.7 or 2.8 and I get a blue screen during 3D mark
this is screwed grrrr
some irq less or equal §§§§ nvsys wierd considering it doesn't crap out at 200 with 75 % memory HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP anybody know what I'm doing cpu at stock speed ev bus standard and this is a retail xp 2400 not unlocked using the 1002.001 bios at stock speed =- 5 mhz grrr
173 halfways stable
166 seems solid but forget 184 craps out one or two sticks grrr
hey this sucks
I heard something about different caps on different versions of this board can anyone tell me about that?
and What the hell do I do about this I don't have an other board to test the memory on this board much less the vid card etc.
this was my greatest wish an xp at stock with a 200/400 fsb grr not do able what is it the board? the corsair memory?
Oh well it's doable with 75% memory but then again it boots at default 133 with 200 memory seems fine but the bandwidth is worse that 133 sync :(
terramir
sorry for being whiney but this was supposed to be my first big review
what does this do:)Quote:

@ everyone: .... shows over. Reinstalled os and it's a no go... stable @ 166mhz but sound is messed up. I figured out what's wrong with that though. I'm getting HELLA static from the "Line Input" so I muted it and it was fine. So right now, my mobo DOES work fine @ 166mhz, but.... I can't hit ANY good fsb speeds. I'm totally confused as to what's going on.
Also as for the 250mhz in the bios... I turned it off connected drives, it wouldn't boot @ 250mhz w/ drives. I turned off again, restarted it up.... it got into bios @ 100mhz, I just F10'ed it and it restarted, this time booting WITH drives @ 250mhz but it locked @ the memory test.
I knocked it down to 240mhz, it booted good.. I actually started installing windows @ 240mhz, but after it loads up the inital setup files it doesn't go past "Windows Setup Loading..." right before you hit "ENTER", then "F8". I'm sure you guys have done that a zillion times, I know I have.
So... I tried 200mhz which I've done before, and still it won't go. 166mhz did work though. So I installed windows @ 166mhz (stock) and then I thought "ok I'll try 200mhz" after installing appropriate drivers... I know 100% that previously it would work @ 200mhz--that my mobo was capable. But it didn't load.
So basically if it's not working at that, it's no use to me. It's trash. Saturday there is a computer show (and Sunday) so I'll pick up a mobo there, and RMA mine to newegg. Buncha BS I tell ya. Also, I may not get an A7N8X tomorrow althought I'm gonna try, but I need SOMETHIN in the mean time, so whatever is best I'll get.
@ Mikee: Unfortunately I do not. *sob* :P
@ BobyJo: Ahh I see. Well if someone wants a comptuer built and overclocked, I'll do it. But they have to understand that it is overclocked, and it's their responsibility to know that and take care of it. Anyway that's just me.
@ terramir: Sounds like the mobo is borked. The Ruby / Nic capacitor thread is somewhere on the forum, forget where though. I don't think it really makes a big diff. though if you ask me.
sorry to hear sysfailur:(
to my luck, why north bridge lick water, and boom board gone, so I ordered the epox to check it out, but today I try the board again and it works:banana:, but I guess I will still keep the epox just incase, on the other hand the asus is running nicely, and after putting a new battery the issue I had before about the volts to the cpu are less noticible, ok, laters and I hope everything works ok:rolleyes:
GET AN EPOX 8RDA+!!!!
Its a really sweet board for o/c'ing and I really want one. Almost about to get one!
To some it gives the same effect as changing 333 MHz FSB CPUs to 266 MHz. The board changes some settings which changes how far you can clock the FSB.Quote:

where can I find some more info, and it is jumper?, manual listed?
thnx, right now I'm over 230, and if that helps more, good info:banana:
