Deux
Thats a super special dcu2 :D
so AndreY's paste is the same as Frostbite?
thanks Deux :D
my gpu core sucks...retested and can't get it higher than 1520.....
so i tried unigine...but unigine wrapper duped
i think this is World_Record_Fail_checksum_FAiled:ROTF:
i love this lightning :D
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...5fa8728d-1.png
so i tried this paste one hour ago...mounted perfectly...
as soon as clocks were applied...bam....i hate that paste..lol
you guys aren't using it so i won't mention it for now....lol
if it cracks don't mention it ever!
Have anyone got any problems with LN2 bios?
For me card worked well under -70 - -100c and ran shmootly 1200MHz gpu clocks, then i started cool it more and when i had -125c pot temp i got grey screen during 3dmark11 test.
And for now allways when windows loads nvid drivers it does grey, blue or somekind freeze.
Tested with normal bios and worked well with it.
So is that some known problem and could it be worth try to flash new bios on it?
sember your paste froze already...grey screen indicates bad mount.
i used antec formula 7. it never popped just silently lost contact.
+ - 1200 core benching FTW!
that paste isn't "good" for the comp.. tried it twice...it froze badly...
But that grey and blue screen came even when i reassembled the pot on gpu, thats not bad mount anymore and with stock bios it worked well.
Card have been lying on my closet fev days now, gotta try tomorrow again if it works now, if not then i try to flash that LN2 bios again.
Can someone maybe send me the bios and give me right code for flashing it, just remember last time when i had "old code" and somthing went wrong. Or it was maybe X58 classified board problem.
Lightning LN2 bios is available at HWbot coldslow-bios thread :)
ME4ME, did you manage to find a trick to bench >1450MHz with IHS removed? I'm still struggling :(
my card can't handle much more than that it seems .. so i wouldn't know :P
but ill be benching with Jonas - the mean machine - this weekend and test some more cards.
ill let you know.
I guess some are lucky with their cores mine just really max out @ 152x, I'll check batch code and post here.
1530mhz was doable but memory gets buggy.
no degradation so far with full pot lol
I solved mine problem, it wasnt bios or driver reladet at all. All went back normal when i just uninstalled afterburner and used different version O.o
Pretty weird, but atleast i found way to solve that freezin issue. Just to know if someone else is having that or somthing.
Still i wasnt able to get any GOOD result in 11mark, this is best wich i had:
http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1578913
Bad performance i think -.-
1400/1300 run failed on last compined test when temps went up to -145c and it crashed. I used gelid xtreme paste and for me it worked best on -120c and after that it started crackin allways. (Tryed 4 times)
Dunno if slim pot is the problem for me, atleast it was damn hard to keep it even -120c with that when u have to keep pot almost full on load and empty during loadin tests :P
cracking is part tim issue and another thing. 1400 is hard. so good job :D
Is really hard to mount and bench (find the good parameters)...
Just tryed lots of TIM and lots of "POPS"...blue, grey, green screen...
We found a new another issue...
VGA can pass 1530...1535... but always freeze in Physics test
http://i53.tinypic.com/2hfqsf6.png
I need to keep the temperature low enough and when physics test starts, the GPU activity greatly decreases, causing RAM freezing.
It has been very difficult to control it, but either way is an excellent card.
Worst of all is to be achieving good results and hear the crack (POP ).... then even if "reheat" at higher temperatures, never stays the same and the ideal is to disassemble and reassemble
:(
Congratz Honda...i think you go to TW
Used mixed TIM
i found out some tim, if you heat it up after a good mount. it doesn't work well. just a tip: on some tim, don't heat up
ronaldo
we both know team.pure has 12k :D
but im still benching these 2 days...i still need to sleep though lol
Honda...you are a really good overclocker and lucky guy too... lol
In my big country (Brazil), we just have Artic Silver 5 and ceramique...LN2 about 6~7 USD per liter and LN2 impossible at weekends
I have only 15 lts Ln2 and no good thermal to test (used mixed OCZ freeze + Ceramique when i got 1530 Mhz).
Does anybody knows about "Liquid Pro" to extreme (VGA)???....
My friend told me can give me one to test a lit bit more....but almost sure I am out MOA this year.
@ronaldo
as5 sucks
ceramique is ok, if applied correctly, but its no match against power tims
@chris
with team.pure anything is possible, just makes me more crazy competing against the best.
I wonder what e-killer is hiding ... :D
2nd gpu has coldbug @ -180c 15xx doable
no fun and no good result lol:rofl:
Ok, so I tested some more GTX 580 with and without IHS. If you make good contact (Freeze or GC-Extreme thin layer, backplate and high pressure) and have a good card without IHS you can do ~1525MHz 3DMark03, ~1450MHz 3DMark11 and <1400MHz Heaven.
In the same condition but with IHS you gain ~125MHz in low intensity benchmarks (3DMark03, 3DMark01, 3DMark05, AQ3,etc) and more in high intensity ones (Vantage, 3DMark11, Unigine). The only card that have IHS is a Matrix that's a poor clocker on air and on LN2, but I managed to do 1520MHz 2k3 and 1375MHz Unigine easy...
The way to go is definately with IHS but I still don't understand why? :) The question is how do I mount now the IHS back on my very good Lightning?!
the numbers are with full pot?
Yes, full pot worked the best on all the cards except one (without IHS) for that -140 was the sweetspot! I still don't get how the latest Lightnings are doing ~1600MHz 3DMark11? Are the cards that good or I'm missing something? :)
im not sure, only tested one good card lmao
How hard are you tightening the screws of the pot and what temp do you bench it?
I reinstalled my IHS simply by applying new TIM to the core and then sitting the IHS on top.
well the IHS touches around the core aswel, maybe that helps cooling the core down?
I have yet to test a 580 Lightning, but on the 480 Lightning, no IHS appeared to result in better core frequencies while the memory became pretty much un-overclockable. Actually did a test one step further with an IHS and a shim on top of the IHS, and I ended up getting stunningly high memory clocks, higher than 1400MHz, whilst normally the card would struggle to break past ~1220 on LN2. So, it appeared that the memory clocked worse the closer the pot was to the PCB. With the IHS off, not even 1200 was doable, with the IHS, a bit past 1200, and with a shim on top of the IHS, over 1400. It might not necessarily be the memory causing problems in the case of the 580 Lightning, but my guess would be that it's something on the PCB that's getting just a little too cold because the pot is closer to it when IHS-less. (yes, that 2mm is significant)
It might be worth a shot to pull out the hair dryers when going without the IHS. It's no secret that it helped the 480L.
started to lap in hopes of turning a good card to a great one lol epic fail IHS?
hopes this helps break into 1600's  will know tomorrow
Attachment 121472
Maybe you need to lap the underside of the IHS too :p
1 thing at a time ;)
That's something I specially see with singlestage and cascade lately. Cards with HS (benching 8800-series of all kind) will get much lower GPU core temperature compared to thoose without. Also getting the optimal mounting without heatspreader is a pita...I know the perfect target for cascade is ~-64°C idle but I usually only get ~-55°C idle and ~-9°C after longer load (03, 06)....tightening the screws during running - helps a bit but just in rare cases I am getting an even pressure on every edge of the core.
Same issues already appearing with G80/G92 - I have one 8800 GT here that won't do even stock mem clocks on cascade...the problem is very hard in 03 and 05 (GT2-GT3, funny fuzzy squares for 1-2 seconds and then freeze).
Depending on the card it does start with PCB temperatures below 10°C (A64 anyone?! :p: ) - Try to keep the pcb warm, not using to much rubber (it strongly supports that effect!) and maybe even heat up the pcb are the only ways to overcome that issue...
lol baggin on my eraser rofl
seems to be working well, lapped to 2000 grit (did my fattie while I was at it too)
Attachment 121541
memory was getting mad from being cold for a couple hours, I'll try higher prob tomorrow night or monday
this is my pre-MOA card, never took the ihs off just lapped.
Have you done anything to your awesome 3d11 card?
benched today .....but was so fuxxxing hard.
Got the crack a couple of time, will try to catch you again next week end ;) this benchmark is really really hard and the setup need to be really fine .
What was the real voltage to reach 1560 core stable ?
Aristidis lapped his card ! :D
We're going to bench it later today . :)
Anyone got 1600/1400 so far?
Hi guys.. i have a question:
how do i unlock voltage in ab for ln2( more than +200mv)... or do you do it by just using nibitor?
we don't use nbitor :D
you have to mod the ab config file...
i wonder if that still works...
Nope :(
even put this where the UnofficialOverclockingEULA is "I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it" and changed the UnofficialOverclockingMode to = 1, but still the same +200mv limit.. and 1500 core limit
:dammit:
i will figure it out sooner or later... i hope
thanks for the suggestion gunslinger.. but tried almost everyday between late september and early october and nothing.. i am on the latest beta.. maybe if i revert (if possible) to one previous it might work?

you need afterburner extreme. it doesn't have any restrictions. they use it for MOA i believe..
here you go
www.mediafire.com/?5yoofshmcf3eoku
check your email bud  that afterburner will work for you!
for future users who may have a similar issue..
here is the link to the afterburner extreme http://www.mediafire.com/?s97i4v5v3t5yrg7
hi. i had one memory issue...please could anyone give me a picture's for the vmem mod? it would be appreciated. kind regards.
anyone could help me? my 580gtx lightning is still dead but i hope with resoldering of the vmem mod i can give them a rebirth, hopefully.
If anyone could link or pm me a copy of ab extreme compatible with this card, that would be amazing!
