think we can hit 2k in less then two weeks?
wonder points loss after the 8th.. im gona loose a little.
Welcome, Major.:)
As long as you keep contributing on a daily basis, that's all that matters. We asked people to go all-out this week. After that, you can give your computer or computers a little breather.:)
Many of the new members are making small contributions each day. But when you add up all those small contributions, they represent millions of points.
I plan to do this full time now.
Folding@Home was good to me, but I was tired of all the problems with the multiple GPU clients on my 4870x2 and the SMP client, plus I tore apart that rig and it still isn't done yet.
I may go back, because it's still pretty cool, but, this gets my CPU time now :D

Welcome to 570091D.
:toast:
For me, when i get every rig planned this summer, you might also see my name at gpu grid. GOal for the end of summer is 10k boinc wcg ppd and 10k gpugrid boinc ppd. And if i can get to 20k rac by the end of summer that would be perfect.
Well I have my WHS running WCG 24/7 now, I just need to figure out the % of CPU time to dedicate to this so it doesn't hinder streaming at the same time. I haven't figured out a way to get WCG to scale back when streaming and when I am not move to 100%. If anyone has any ideas feel free to PM me or post here.
Thanks.

I must say I am glad that I have joined the team recently, after Movieman's call to arms. I used to crunch SETI@home like 10 years ago and I remember it used to be like real addiction to me. I sense that's comming back, but at least this time it's for the good cause. Anyway I like the idea of never having enough computing power, as it can always be assigned to crunch WCG, while giving excellent excuse for often hardware upgrades. Go team!
Those that stay are a special breed, ones committed ( and in Dave's case, should be :sofa: ) to bettering this planet by ridding it of diseases that have ravaged so many.
We appreciate any and all participation and a big thanks to those that have helped in our journey. Some can not afford to remain hard core crunchers and some just get bored, time will tell. But every work unit returned just might be today's Rosetta Stone tablet.
From XSWCG... Thank You!

But the real star of the show is crunching on my 2Ghz Core 2 Duo Mac mini :D

Hopefully will make this a long term thing if the British summer is bearable this year...
Some bad news for me; the summer in New England is rolling in and my dorm's getting warmer. No A/C either. :( It's been in the lower-80's inside.
It's beautiful outside, however.

Try 6 rigs in one room and no window or A/C.
Have a patio door but it has to stay closed as I work nights.
Great for getting the laundry dry though
I've spent most of my past summers in houses without air conditioning. I would have preferred to have A/C. While I may not be dying, I'm not so sure about my HD3850; it's at 90+C daily; under AC MX-2 paste.
When the kids leave home I hope to get a place with a dedicated rig room, pref a cool basement with lots of ventilation......or maybe a garage with metal grilles instead of windows, hmmmm.
Enough rig mods, time for building mods :D
Hi to everyone,
I started crunching on 23/04/10 with an i7 920#@3.6(wc) and i just added another i7 920@2.7(air for now).:D
now I have to figure out these sigs?:yepp:

Heh. I've been using the crunching to keep my room warm. I live with people that prefer cold. I'd rather my room be a shade warmer, despite the performance hit heat causes.

I jumped at the chance to take part in this challenge when I got the email. I've put my Core2Quad Q9550 to work and I've borrowed a Xeon X3430 server from work to crunch with too! I'm actually quite curious to see which one produces the most points per day (although the Q9550 has the advantage of running the 64 bit version)
NOW THATS FUNNY!!!!!!!! I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE THATS FUNNY!!!! :up:I think I'm going to fit in here!!!!:D
Let's not introduce these poor people to UNkie Jay, Rick ... I don't think they could take the trauma.

So this is it... the end of the experiment or event or whatever it's called...
Did we do what Movieman wanted to do? Did we crash IBM servers for tabulating results?
I say we do another week to ensure we make it to second place. :D
 I've got a pretty volatile weather system in my area and had to turn the pc off for about an hour today because of lightening. Another week would be cool!
Edit: Lots of electrical storms today, ended up losing about 5 hours today : (

You are on top of things and I was trying to sneak in.
Its about time :p:
I'm going to stick around for at least another week!
So this goal???
I'm not sure what it was supposed to be any more; I spent most of my time manually updating my projects because there was always at least one that was "Ready to Report" so I got lost in the "small stuff."
Once a work unit is completed, the servers often don't take it in right away. Although BOINC is always connected to the servers (unless you specify otherwise), the line opens up only at certain times during the day.

only 28 more WU's to do on my i7-920 machine and then i can shut
her down and fire up my brand new i7-870 rig and play with it until
my new HD5870 gets here(tuesday).it been so hard letting this new
i7-870 rig just sit here during the crunch week.but now as soon as
the WU's are finished(so they get done in time)i can fire up my new
rig and install boinc and crunch and play with the i7-870,and when
the 5870 arrives ill put the 3450 in the 920 setup and let it crunch
away while i OC the sh#t out of my new i7-870 using my sweet g.skill
2200 cl7's.going to be so fun:up::up:
this is what my new setup consist's of......
oh, i cant wait til the 5870 gets here:DQuote:
Intel Core i7-870 - Quad-Core @ 2.93GHz
Gigabyte P55A-UD7
8GB Corsair DOMINATOR DDR3-1600 CL8 6GB's of this will go into the 920 setup
Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 1GB
Corsair P128 Solid-State Drive
WD 2TB Caviar Black
Corsair 850HX
Corsair Obsidian Series 800D
Corsair H50 Liquid CPU Cooler i'll throw this on the 920 and use my WCing loop on the 870 setup
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64
ASUS Xonar D1
ASUS LED 23.8" MS238H
by the way does anyone know how SSD's and OCing mix?
are they more prone to OS corruption than regular HD's?

that's awesome, the almighty Fugger joined in on this!
wow that's one fancy cruncher!
OC'ing has no more ill effect on SSD that it would for a HD. however, if you're going to be crunching on a SSD, make sure you set your "checkpoint to disk" to some high number, like 1000sec or something. constantly writing little bits of data like this can be a little hard on the ssd controller.
WhiteFireDragon, thanks for the input about crunching and SSD's
you're welcome
ssd's are much more valuable than HD's and since you have a WD 2tb black in there, i would put the data directory on the storage drive. HD/SSD performance has no affect on crunching, and some people killed their SSD's from crunching. i had this question myself about a month ago, here's that thread:

and it will automatically keep everything regarding boic on that drive?
