Very nice, and exciting. Sobarashii:up:
nice project.
What size tube is the white you use in your radiator?
Whoa, I missed a massive chunk of updates!!! Thanks, HBech for bumping this and Kibbs, man, this is incredible!!
Absolutely beautiful work and pics. The wiring from the aquaero must have taken ages but it's perfect, and the subtle change to the pump looks much better (even though it looked awesome before :)).
So sorry i missed this, mate. I'm kicking myself
Hi Kibbler,
Your project expresses a sophisticated care, so aesthetic as technical. We fill things made with a search of balance, for harmony, and it is very pleasant.
Among other things, you show that it is possible to weld a connector on a radiator (with all the necessary precautions not to see its radiator transformed in spare parts). I had already thought of this modification (I know the temperature of this weld), but without venturing there! Now you go to see that copiers, that exists! Thank you very much.
Thanks a lot for your comments guys. :)
I haven't done much lately, just some sleeving here and there. I should have a generous update in the next 1~2 weeks as now I have all the pieces for the front panel. Some pieces will need to be anodized, then assembly. Should be some good stuff coming!
Awesome MODs Kib! Can I copy your idea ... can't sleep after looking at your photo!
Lol thanks, be my guest. Which idea would that be? :)

Bits and pieces update
Nothing new here, just showing what's going on with the drain line routing. I shortened the rad drain line about 1/2", taking out the slack so the bend is more natural.

Here's the exhaust fan. I like fans with smaller hubs (Arctic Cooling F12) but Zazzle doesn't have the right size sticker. So I bought some from a stationery store.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4011/...b85a984c_b.jpg
This is what's coming up. That's a new front panel this time laser'd out of 2mm aluminum for rigidity (last one was 1.5mm). We'll see where the other pieces will go once they're properly finished.

Thanks for looking!
Oh cool, hanging hidden hard drive!
:p:
The holes in the one plate gave it away. Question is, are you hiding it completely, or will there be evidence of the screws on the inside of the case? Is it going to be squeezed in the middle there, have active ventilation, or just lots of venting?
Hm, wait a minute, those holes were already there when you put your hard drive on top of your case... Well that other HDP (handy dandy plate) is new haha.
Whoa - that white fan looks awesome. I think your color combo is going to look fantastic.
The work you have done so far is excellent. :yepp: It's all the tiny details that make a project stand out from the rest and yours does just that. :)
Looking forward to seeing how your faceplate looks when finished. Fantastic mate.
Bought stuff
I know most worklogs have this at the beginning, but I decided to buy the components at the 75% mark instead.
I said from the very first post that I'll probably go with a Gulftown. I stuck to that plan.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/...8e10053e_b.jpg
Do it to it, Lars!
:slobber: I'm green with envy...see :D. This is going to be quite a powerful machine :guitar::rocker:
Wooo exciting! :)
Can I ask what size tubing that the drains are and who makes those QC's? Have you tested them for leaks (always was a concern of mine with QC's.)?
BTW - I need to stay updated more as I haven't checked this log in a while, but jeez!!! Everything is amazing. Great work!
I want that board too ... nice stuff kib!
Very nice hardware choice but that Intel... it must have run you a pretty penny.
Could you please tell me what grit do you use to sand your radiator?
Kibbs, I picked up some of those QD's. Really nice quality, I'm impressed! I looked at the pricing for the larger size, but sheesh, talk about expensive - no way could I justify spending that kind of money on fittings alone (BP's are expensive enough IMHO). At least here in swe anyways, perhaps it's better pricing there.
Motherboard progress
Hi guys, been a long while since my last update. I got my motherboard ready, to be installed later once the case is ready for it.

looks very nice bro.
btw, did you order the red dominator heatsinks online? how much did it set you back (including shipping)?
thanks in advance
Did you get the extended fins? https://shop.corsair.com/store/defau...gory_id=784414

You are insane!
That's awesome!
Where did you get that PCB done?!?!!?!?
:D loving it! The board was meant for your case; not this case in general, YOURS.
you never cease to surprise bro!
amazing!
Thanks guys. Bianco, I missed your question. Yes I bought those sinks online from Corsair's online store. They are overpriced for sure, plus shipping. I wouldn't recommend it. I just wanted the color.
If you have Dominators, get the sinks anodized locally. That's my recommendation.
Noticed your sick SR2 man. When will we get to see more of that?
ah.. that's an idea i've had last time... worried about the warranty though.
haha. working on it bro. currently thinking/planning of custom parts/case for the monster. i'll eventually update my thread... so i won't be de-railing your awesome log (like now... haha).
Wtf is that thing lol, Cant wiat for more progress !!
getting jealous here....
OMG, that freaking awesome ! Kibbler, where did you get that pcb made?
i think everyone is dying to know where that pcb was made
its stunning!
Awesome - it's here!!!!
Me too! Awesome!
The PCB looks like some kind of cable extension designed to minimize clutter.
Phil
:eek2: awesome!!!
and me:eek:
Don't even know what to say, simply amazing! Would you mind to tell us what it is, exactly?
That is an epic build....I can't believe I missed this.
Loving the custom PCB.
Also, how about that R3E? I have the same board going into my build but it won't be stuffed with a Gulfy.
Great work all around, 18 pages of goodness
That's nuts, dude! Almost forgot about this build. Back with a vengeance!
Where did you get that power PCB made? I have been thinking of doing something like that my self for a mod. But, I am unsure of what Trace width and clearance to use. Some people say i should be fine with 1.5mm traces on 2oz board, and others say it should be 54mm.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ahoy, Kai!
Dropping by to represent the love for Capella. :D
Candy-apple PCB deliciousness for the win!
wow, I love that PCB!!! I had the same idea , but not so advanced, I was thinking of just soldering on the connectors to the back of the mobo , but I'm liking this much more. More simplified and more clean, fantastic execution. Waiting with popcorn to see how it's executed!
Your build is getting way more epic that I originally tought :D Thumbs up!
that cable management board is :banana::banana::banana:ing legit. definitely will be following this much closer
Honestly the most epic build of ALL TIME.
/cue Kanye
epic
Thanks all you guys. :)
Want to answer a few things that were asked:
1) I ordered my PCBs through Pad2Pad (Google it). You need to download their design software. There's a significant learning curve to the design process (unless you're already an EE) but if you've ever used any other CAD software then you should be able to pick up the interface pretty quickly.
2) Yes that big red PCB is for cable management. There's very little space behind the motherboard tray for cable bundles. This is my solution to that.
3) As for details like trace width and etc...it's a bit complicated. The holes are spec'ed to the connectors I ordered, and I set the trace/clearance to be as wide and as spaced out as possible for the software to auto-route successfully. It's probably over-engineered considering motherboards can be quad-to-hex layered with tiny traces and this one has only two layers and big fat traces. But, since they will be carrying 12V at unknown amps, better safe than sorry.

Faceplate update
I can dis-aggregate this project into 4 major parts:
1. Watercooling setup (the rad and pump and res thingy). This is done.
2. Front panel assembly
3. Aquaero and LCD, pretty much done.
4. PCB wire management. This is the next step.
Today we're looking at #2.
Two older photos first. Here's the "LED splitter board."
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4068/...b3a9e93c_b.jpg
And the backlight/mini-sLight assembly from before.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/...d8d1f57e_b.jpg
I soldered 6x 2V LEDs to the board in serial, and a 90deg pin connector on the back. Serial means I push 12V to the board and each LED gets 2V. Perfect. Disadvantage is if one LED dies, they all die.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4120/...871fefe7_b.jpg
Here's the backside of the LED board, and the 90deg connector I mentioned.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4074/...63f841cb_b.jpg
Now it is all wired up + sleeved into a single cable run. You see the pairs of little holes I laser'ed in at the left side of the plate, they're zip-tie anchors.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4143/...65dc7981_b.jpg
This is the back of the front panel. I used black mesh and a thin aluminum frame to hide the serrated mesh profile (I think this was one of Callen's brilliant ideas).
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/...8b820bbd_b.jpg
Installed the backplate.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/...308bf2c9_b.jpg
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/...18b3c1d7_b.jpg
You can barely see the three zip-ties I used. The zip-tie "lug" is hidden between the faceplate and the backplate.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/...0be8fbef_b.jpg
Two small p-clips (middle and right screw points) secure the cable in that groove and make a bend at the end.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/...f748359c_b.jpg
Yay.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/...5f5ae414_b.jpg
Miraculously the 3mm LEDs are perfectly centered in the 5mm holes. ~1mm gap around the circumference.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/...01ebe26b_b.jpg
Ta-Da!
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/...dc2ff7c2_b.jpg
Once I reattach the original trimmings it looks like this.

I hooked up an old trusty PSU to serve 5V and 12V.

Yay!

Thanks for looking. :)
mate thats some innvoative work right their, loving the way the colour of the rad, your custom named LED, the way you have setup your drain ports.. Just read all 19 pages hehe, cant wait till the end!
I'm not just saying this... upon seeing those above pictures, I yelled "DUDE!!!"
Brilliant stuff duder
Kibbler, thanks for posting the pictures up. They are top notch! The first thing I've noticed is how nice that Lian Li PC-P50R really is. It's my opinion that a red rad would really set this build apart. What's better is that you may even be able to get some sort of design on the rad (in black) that matches the side panel art! Looking forward to the rest of this build for sure!
Holy crap.
Your planning and design is the really amazing part here. Yes, other people could probably reproduce that, but not necessarily as cleanly without the tedious and proven proper planning.
Looks amazing.
^^ What he said. hahaha. Seriously this build is EPIC. Custom PCB's, amazing anodizing, and LED work on the front. Loving this build.
Just realized that thanks to XS, I have read more worklogs then I have books!!!
Thats a great looking faceplate. :yepp: Such fantastic attention to detail. :)
Awesome as always mate.
Soo nice! great job Bro!
Cant wait to see this in action!
Holy Crap, Sweet Mother Of God, WTF, GTFO LOL!
Nicest, most detailed face plate ever! Kudos x ∞, Kibbs
Wow ! Crazy man :D
:banana::banana::banana: off. This build seemed kind of "normal" at first in my eyes but then you started making it epic and now it's definitely my favorite build here . You make me feel like my PC is crap :ROTF:
Awesome Job on the faceplate.
I have been looking at the Pad2Pad software and I cannot find any of the connectors for power like you used. Do you know where I can get them? Thanks.
Just found and read through this while thread. I am amazed. The creativity and thoroughness in the design - just incredible. Thanks.
1st – love the little touches like the stickers for the memory. 2nd – That PCB is brilliant.
But that front plate is outstanding. I liked your first revisions but this has got to be one of the best looking mods I have seen.
Thanks guys. Appreciate it. :)
@nlancaster
They're not from Pad2Pad. I ordered them from Mouser, Digikey or similar should also have them. You need to go in and look for what you need.
wonderful front plate bro... i should get my thesaurus and find more synonym for awesome and great. haha.
anyways, i know it's just me...
but would it look better if the led (dots) would be a bit more diffused/less bright like the capella lighting?
You should think of submitting your front plate photos to Lian Li. If i worked there i would totally sponsor your whole build, so many people will buy P50R's just because of it.
Updates updates!!!!
Definitely the best build ever.
Sweet mother of balls thats awesome.
I was just going to watercool one of these but now I realise I could do so much more while I'm at it...
Damn you Kibble my bank balance is not going to like you :P
That Looks Amazing BroO!!!
Just an idea,
If the HDD is going towards the back under the top shroud, is there room for a slimline slot loading optical drive? Cut a slot in the plastic shroud just above where the red lcd screen is.
Could be an interesting effect (might do on my own case later) but as far as I can tell you aren't planning on an optical drive anyway :P
(p.s. whats the 3 way adapter on the pump? I don't recognise the symbol)
Thanks guys. :)
Here are some photos I forgot to update.

I like how the red from the ASUS Maximus is very similar to the red on the case... you can see the difference between the reds by looking at the Dominator fins. GREAT choice in motherboard!
Thanks Scott, actually it's a Rampage. ;)
I always get the two mixed up... I just say whichever word comes to mind (Rampage or Maximus) when I see one of the two.
i just read this whole thing and OMFG!!! this is possibly the coolest and most thought out build i've ever seen. I like your style i'm similar in my aproach.. well not as cool as you lol not by a long shot. keep up the hard work, looks ****ing awesome.
whats the purpose of PCB?
Give me an M
Give me a D
Give me a P
Give me a C
What does that spell?! Freakin' Project Capella!!!
how much have you spent in this project till now :)
awesome setup!!!
Hey Kibbler,
I've been admiring your build since the beginning, its coming together so well. Congrats!
Are you anodizing the pieces as you go? How did you find a place willing to anodize small pieces in small batches?
You mentioned refinishing the brushed anodized pieces yourself to match the Lian Li finish. Did you just use a fine grit sand paper in one direction? How did this effect the anodizing?
Awesome build you have going here, I see MDPC in the near future lol
Sorry if I missed it but where did you get the white Acetal top for the HF? Looks so nice
I think the white acetal top is available from EK - not sure if it was a special order, but I think I remember seeing them a while ago.
Kibbler - I'm behind in catching up on worklogs and missed the last few photos you put up. I continue to be in awe. This is coming out so well - your planning and patience is really paying off. Also, your photography just gets better and better as well. Truly inspirational.
Pfiou, 20 Pages later, am done ready (serve me for not keeping up to date :p)
I love you work ! So many great idea used in this, am so going to steal that PCB (if I ever figure out how-to lol)
Keep up the nice work :)
Love the ideas used here. I really like the color scheme, Im gonna do sometihng similar just without the white. Wish I could afford a R3E.
I might use the wiring scheme for your circuit board but dont know were I could get a red laminate like that...only got green, yellow, and black available to me.
With all the innovation you bring to the playground and how you manage to capture that beautifully in your photography has made me a really big fan of your work. Arr and Thanks as always, Kai.
