Has anyone noticed better memory bandwidth with 9.5, then with 10? My bandwidth is greater at 9.5 X 246, then 10 X 246  bios 12-18
nope, havent noticed that. BUT, i do know that the infinity (2 ive tested so far) doesnt like multi 8.5 with high FSB, possibly low FSB also, but im not sure, as i havent needed it with a low FSB.
I've never gotten my 1700+ to POST at either of 8.0 or 8.5 mult, stock FSB or not. I tried those mults in an effort to see how high I could place the FSB but nada. 12-18 BIOS. Muilts 7.0, 7.5 and 9-15 work.
Another strangeness, my 1700+ was runnable at up to 1.9v on my kd7-e. If I try 1.8 on the Infinity I get a no POST condition.
yes im glad im not the only one with the 8 and 8.5 multis. i did 7.5x240 and it just ran uber slow. right now im at 9x240, and im trying to get windows stable. i can run proggies, but every now and then ill get "such and such a problem and needs to close" "send error report" im messing with all the ADVANCED CHIPSET things, as there are so many. can anyone tell me what the driving rate and the slew thing are? they have an option for those 2 on each DIMM
I'm guessing that 8 and 8.5 map to a high (20+) multiplier.
This is on a stock 1700+, wonder if the 8-bit mod would help?
dunno, im on a 2500 barton.
I thought I had the newest bios but I was only running the 11/27 bios.:wierd:
I flashed to the 12/18 bios last night and was easily over 250fsb. I booted into windows at 260fsb but I didn't want to push it much further. I'm still trying to find stable timings at 9.5x253 but It looks like I may need more vcore.
Masochist! ;)Quote:

In all seriousness, great 'clock out of that board Wolf :toast:
Thanks. I'm just so happy I finally got a good board. It's really all in the board.
Here is my modest run at 3dmark 2001 with the the 9600pro at 481/340 .

Wait,
So is everyone here getting 250Fsb out of these boards?
more oe less. 240 almost all round. most hit 250 some beyond.
im one of the few who fell short of 250... hdd corruption. i think i have unlucky ram.
This is a long thread, but if you read through you'll see that most posting here are getting 240-250+ with the beta BIOS'. With no mods :D
Doesn't mean that everyone is getting such high clocks. Check out amdmb.com's DFI forums, the boards are not without troubles, but the general trend is high FSB out of the box.
eh..from amdmb dfi forum:
Teh secret is out :DQuote:
as for Oskar, he's the engineer head nerdy dude that worked for Abit and created such wonderful boards as the BP6! He's now ours, and works on the Infinity series of boards =)
It is indeed out!!!!
I should be getting the DFI board in a few days, just need some money to go in my account then I'll order it and a WB for the CPU and NB.
Gonna stop using the Prometeia until I can get it fixed as it's too noisy.
Indeed, oskar seems to be a great engineer...too bad that someone insulted him ... and from what i see, he dissappeared as he actually said he would... :( OSKAR if you see this post, please come back and give us your lights and hints.
Some people should go over to AMDMB and tell him to come back. :)
an freakin apologize. good god yo!
lol we dont want the actions of one to drive away someone like him.
Whats the forum he is at?
I've sent him a PM on AMDMB, fingers crossed.
I just flashed to the 18 beta BIOS . I went from 225 3D/prime stable with my twinmos with twinmos PC3200 single sided ram to 250 3D/prime stable . I am running at 248 at the moment because my CPU limits me there . My CPU wont go much over 2600mhz with the 2v this board gives ( must find a mod :) )
My muskin bh-5 is memtest stable at 250 , but not prime . I think the reason may be that it is not single sided like my Twinmos is.
This is by far the BEST NF2 board I have ever owned .
A big thankyou has to go out to OSKAR_WU :D His latest BIOS has transformed my board completely.
Cheers
OSKAR!!! HELLPP lol
is there any way you can tweak the bios to not HATE westerdigital hard drives?! ALOT of people have having huge problems with that. i have only WD drives so im screwed as i cant get this board to boot with a WD!
I just had to disable APIC to stop losing my usb mouse and sound . I have managed to push it to 250x10.5 and so far prime is fine . This is with a vapo and stock cooling . I hope to get watercooling the NB and VGA soon :)
that thing about westerd digitals is bad..i got a wd special edition 80gig i'd like to use with my dfi(i am waiting for the lanpartyB)..its normal IDE not serial ata,i hope i wont have probs...
you will most likely. Ive already testd 3 infinity and my WD 40gig worked on noen of them, afetr it was shut down by flashing to beta 12-18 on the first infinty i had. since that flash on my first infinty, it hasnt loaded on ANY of the boards that came to follow. good luck to ya man
Ah §§§§...is it still working on a diff mobo or the hd is wasted??..and is this a bios prob or ahardware prob?
i think he means on any infinity. i have the exact same hdd with teh exact same problem.... im at a loss as for what to do. only thing i can think of is wait till we get a new bios.
can i get a repost of the link to the lis of infinity bios's. i lost the page.
me too! I practically begged him to come back. :(Quote:

i still am confused about what happened to make OSKAR leave...and on top of that, ive never heard of someone getting mad and bein like "Im takin my toys and going home!!" lol, someone musta said something pretty bad to make someone leave a forum.
He was here for only a few posts, had done some great work with the BIOS, let us know and wasn't made to feel welcome.
It happens, no hard feelings to anyone involved, OSKAR included.
Sure wish he'd hang out here though :(
Eclypse had told him off and told him to leave. So, in a gentlemen's fashion, he did, just like that.
wow, gg eclypse
this would be a fantastic time to get back on subject.
how bout another post of that list of bioses!
So the system won't recognize the Western Digital discs at all??If you use a WD disc as secondary, will it recognize it then?
Beta BIOS'?

Go, go OSKAR_WU!
He has 2 beta's out!?!? Which one to use then? 12/10 or 12/18...or are you going to give me the try both and use what works best answer? :) ;)
this is a good question.. tomorow ill try this in the morning. ill report what i find.Quote:

If you have WD disk problems like me..try to test this..
Oskars bios detected the disk wrong(CHS is defualt in bios). i change it (detected it in the bios after the flash) . and know it works fine . Auto = LRG = works fine
You need to change it to Auto instead of CHS! . After the flash it are @CHS as default
I had a Thread in Amdmb forum about this problem somethimes ago.
both are good. i thnk the 18 is best though. i know OCZ likes 12-18 bios best.Quote:

Actually OSKAR has more than two betas out. Those are the most recent.
OSKAR has posted over at AMDmb.com ... they cant duplicate the HD problem... he wants help to try and dup it so he can fixit.
nieuw beta bios DFI rev. B:
12/31 BIOS update as follows :
Key Change of 12-31 BIOS Since The 12-18 BIOS(12-18 BIOS is previous beta BIOS)
1 . Add Command Per Clock Option in Advanced ChipSet Feature BIOS menu
Choose Disabled will improve Double Side DRAM Overclocking Ability
2 . Fix 12-18 BIOS 8X , 8.5X fail to boot when CPU interface is Aggressive
and FSB >= 200 MHz
3 . Change The topology of DIMM Driving and Strength
get it here: -> edit, go the link at the bottom of this box.
link: http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwb/ulti...;f=34;t=000021
Good luck! No testing here, rev. B is dead :(.
12/31 is the newest...will have to try that one...Still using stock bios...
i PM'ed hm and were tryin to figure it out.Quote:

it really is a WEIRD problem. and it seems to be very wide spread. so he will have plenty of info to help solve this.
im finally back on my infinity after my wd hdds corrupted and/or woudlnt work. OC time commin!
How are your results with the new bios spork?
yes, if you use it as a secondary, and do not load an OS on to it and use it as the boot drive, then you should be ok.Quote:

not too shabby aye?:slobber:
its not stable there AFAIK, it crashed at 268.
i think its mearly ram holding me back. 258 @ 2-2-2-5 with only 3.3 volts is really good.. but pushing the limit. im gunna do teh voltmod on teh ram in about an hour i think so ill have like 3.5vdimm to play with. hopfully i can get 270 stable then.:smileysex
well my boards dead.
tried the vdimm mod and the resistor popped off. LOL
be careful when doing this.
ill see if someone with better equipment can fix it.
Poor board.... poor memory inall too thats just cruel :o
im wondering what would happen if i ran it with no resistor there... might it work? or would it put like 3billion volts into me ram?
no the motherboard will not work without it. if the mobo would "let itself" run, then yes, it would put allot of voltage to the RAM, but it will not "let itself" get that far. comprendes?
Might just send as much vdimm as it can (whatever your 3.3v rail is at). Or it might not start up at all. Or, it might just fry all the §§§§ plugged into it.
wow, I can't see the time of running dfi again :)
Evil_Spork, I'm sorry you killed your board but I think it's fixable. If you manage to calculate ohm on the broken resistor you can place the VR swapping it; as you removed old resistor, you should have two metal points on the board, just solder "the right" VR (200k + the old resistor ohms) on them and you should be ok. Plaese ask also someone more skilled than me, I'm saying this just in analogy to the nf7 mod I did. Hope it helps.
that sounds right but that wouldnt work. teh VR imputting on is going from one side of the resistor to ground. but i CAN solder two wires to teh points left and put the resistor back on at teh end of the two small new wires. and then i can add my VR in there. with that ill be able to adjust my vdimm to what i want.
i think i can get a good bit over 265 stable with more vdimm. i know my ram is holding me back at 265(wasnt stable but just getting there means i can.
Evil_Spork
You are unlucky :/ . i hope you cane fix it..this board is unreal :) i think 280-> fsb is no problems with high vmem and right memmory..i did 272fsb (with 2x512mb @3.3v) and the sticks are prime stabil @250fsb 3.3v (how high prime did your sticks do?)..i will by 2x256 soon i think they overclocks better..and do some vmem modd to :)
i didnt prime test... only 3dmark and general use. im on a new hdd and its ghetto.. dont have all my progs yet.
My infinity just came in the mail on Friday. First week back to school, so I'm going to have to wait till next weekend to set it up. I'm very excited though, can't wait to slap on the prometeia and the watercooling and see this baby fly.
Anyone can poste the vcore-Vsense mod for this board,I´ve been
searching but can´t find it.
It's in this thread, and Holst has recapped it here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...threadid=25299
page 15 of this thread.. maybe page 14. (for vcore mod)
well i managed to bench at 260fsb with my barton in(which turns out to suck big time, needs 1.95vcore to do 2300mhz and still isnt stable)
3815/3527 @ 260fsb 2-2-2-5 92%efficiancy(sp?)
gunna swap back my 1700 in.. the barton cant do any decent speed so its very limiting.
Change timings to this(if you have bh5)Quote:

To bad your Barton don´t go higher then that :/.. My Thorton(L2@512Kb) do 2.4ghz easy and 2.5 ghz is no problem.
Did you fix it?Quote:

You should be able to fit a VR in place of the resistor and change the Vdimm that way.
If somebody can measure the resistance on the board you should be able to select an appropriate VR and fix the board without any problems.
I wouldnt run the board without that resistor.. you may give your ram 5v.. or blow the voltage regulation up.
ive got a dead infinity here....i can measure that resistance for ya...what do i do tho, lol...set my DMM to 2k ohm? then what?
In order to measure resistance properly, you have to remove the resistor from the circuit, then measure. You might have to set your DMM to higher than 2k ohm aswell.
i using this board, and get this
http://www.geocities.com/universtech/dfi_248mem.txt
http://www.geocities.com/universtech/dfi_248_3dm01.txt
http://www.geocities.com/universtech/dfi_248_3dm03.txt
and here is the compare url @ FSB 248 Mhz http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7410797
remove it from the PCB? are u sure about that? theres no way to measure resistance with it on the PCB?
bigpoppa - with it on the PCB, you aren't measuring just that part, you're also measuring portions of circuit connected to that part.
Without taking it off the board you won't get an accurate measurement.
Has anyone tried running this board with some hynix ram
and shooting for 300 fsb? Sounds like the chipset could handle
it, and the efficiency hit wouldn't be that bad....
I'm gonna play with this board soon myself, and am deliberating
on what kind of ram to go with....
i got the resistor replaced.. i have a dead infinity, so i took teh clean resistor off that one and put it on my working board.
im in teh finity now.. got 8.5x250 stable... but it took some 1.9vcore lol.. this barton is HORRIBLE. im gunna sell it and get a 2400 mobile barton. see if i cant do any better.
260 was stable for while..(over an hour of windows use and sandra testing) but it crashed, cant tell if it was the cpu or mobo.
im gunna put my 1700 back in and test.. it will take 2400+mhz pretty easily. im hoping it will like ~2430mhz like it does in my epox.
i measured the resistance of the thing on the board.. 123.5k ohm.
after it was replaced it read 124.3k not sure if this will help or hinder.
holst, can i possibly remove this resistor and place a resistor in its place, like a 200k ohm and then turn the resistance up or down to raise or lower vdimm?
it sounds like i can,, but which way will yield more vdimm and which will give less.. i want to end up with my 3.3 bios setting giving 3.6 possibly. 3.5-3.6v. then the rest just scale down from there. can you help me figure out what to set teh resistance for on that to accomplish this. i feel this setup im on will give some truely great speed if i had more vdimm to play with. possibly beat xDuck's 266fsb speed.
Spork, removing the resistor that is used for the vdimm mod, and replacing it with a pot for adjustable voltage most likely won't work the same.
If the other end of the resistor (the one not connected to the IC) goes to ground, then replacing it with a pot will work. Just make sure you use the parallel, and not serial, combination of the resistors.
If the other end of the resistor doesn't go to ground, then this will change the entire make-up of the mod. This may lead to undesirable results.
very true... thats why im asking... i dont knwo what that pin does... if its the vOut to the ram, lowering the resistance will raise voltage.. but since were resisting it cant be.. if its teh vSence then if i raise the resitance of it it will work teh same as the mod i would be doing now.
I just ordered a DFI Infinity NFII Ultra, had enough of this AN7 POS!
Role on tomorrow :D
Did you try any CH5 walrus? I remember you had the same problem using even 200 with BH5 on the AN7. I had no luck on my infinity with that ram either. I know some people have had no issues but also I think some people are reporting issues with black level 2. just FYI. I think some batches of BH5 are unfriendly. We both had BH5 issues only when jumping to the ultra and infinity did not solve it for me.
New CH5 sticks and I can bench and game in the 230's.... so far. Good enough to keep now so I can finally start modding my mobo instead of aiming a room fan at the board.
I do seem to get slightly lower marks then my abit boards but my OS has been through quite a thrashing while using my hyper x bh5. Benny- how come so much higher in 3dmark with the soltek? The cpu clocks couldnt be that much of a difference so maybe it's your VC clocks, or are you experiencing lower 3dmark scores as well?
Probably going to be selling some hyper x BH5's with acknowledgement of there distaste for NF2 ultra's and pretty cheap.
bump:D
My BH5s perform perfectly fine in this DFI board:)
The problem with the AN7s was that they are just crap at overclocking on the FSB, especially if VCore is too high.
Anyone try to use 4 sata drives on this for a RAID0 4 drives wide? I'd like to know what the performance is vs 2 drives. 2x80/8 Maxtor 133MB/s drives are giving me 85MB/s avg in HDTach 2.70 up from 45MB/s single drive on the IDE or Sata. Just curios, since 4 80/8 Maxtors costs less after rebates than 2 Raptors and has 4X+ the storage space.
Are these DFI boards getting the same bandwidth/FSB Mhz as the Abit NF7-S or is it higher FSB at the cost of lower MB/s per MhzFSB?
230x10 11,2,2,cas2 cpuint=enb and Im getting 3500 on SiSoft Sandra memory benchmark. Would I do the same, more, less on the DFI?
XMS 3500 2-2-2-11 @ 3.3vdimm 1.9v vdd
http://xerohour.xplosivehost.net/245.jpg
Going to try 250 now.
it's quite a bit faster clock for clock with either the 12-10 or 12-18 bios.:DQuote:

Hello all. :D
No internet till 2004-01-28, but then dsl :)
I at the uni now.
Have a 3dmark with 255x11 with locked week 49 barton and got 24.1k :D
But guys, I have a problem with my second board (mosfet rip off story again)
I cannot get anything stable dual channel over 230 to 240 I think, but every of my ram sticks can do 260+ at my vmodded 3,55VDimm, prime stable nad 3d with 2900MHz :(
It's a pain... Gonna get another stick of the hyperX bh-5 :D Only one bought but wanting another one...
Okay. C U later.
Holler. Welcome back SAE, we thought you fried yourself trying your vcore mod. :P
holy crap, SAE, AWESOME SCORE!:slobber:

Vcoremod is no problem, I did it with a grabber, 50Kpot to ground. Works like a charm :)
My barton needs around 2,08V to do 2,87Ghz :D
@EnJoy
No I fried nothing accidently ;), but the china produced board was crap for me, and I could not return it without damage :explode: so I was told by my friend. DFI would return it to me letting me know the "works within the expected parameters"
So it died ... Cr**p.
The Taiwan board was sooo much better.
The 24k score I repeated the run after next reboot... But nature was very high those two runs... around 180fps... who knows.
Can publish the scores when I am online again at home.
SAE: Other than plastic and metal levers, is there a way to tell by looking if you have a Taiwan or a China board?
sjohnson...check between dimm1 and northbridge.
do you have a white sticker with a bar code? should say below that.
OK, found it. Below a white sticker, but no bar code (scratches head, wonders why he missed that on the initial inspection of the board). Thanks!
The first board had the sticker and below the letters "made in taiwan". The second really bad board had no sticker, just a plain white rectangle with (originally) the letters below it but obviously painted with a white colored marker or sth like that...
Furthermore there was the origin of the borad written on the side of the box it came with. Below the sticker with all the information bout the board...
Maybe they changed the country to save money through lower wages???
Taiwan - China... China - Taiwan... who knows. Infact it sucks.
My Lanparty B gets to 255 fsb stable . I run at 248x10.5 for everyday use . I have added a fan to the NB and thats it . It says made in china on my board :)
I will try water cooling , but I am putting it off because it means taking my Vapo PE out of the case and into a lian li
I will wait for the weather to get a bit warmer so I can do it outside . Dont want bits of metal fragments everywhere in my house :)
Mine did not even do 240dc stable, but I could prime with 260x11 single channel :confused:Quote:

I wonder if I should try the lp b. In case the infinity rma is not satisfying...
Just ordered one today after seeing several gr8 reviews. I've had an ABIT AN7 for several months; tired of their horrible customer support. Maybe now I can start to reach a tad of my memory's potential. 213fsb was the sweet spot on the AN7.
I wonder if I'll be able to get by without a reinstall of XP; both boards are NF2 and basically use the same drivers. hmmm.. anybody upgrade from another nf2 to this board? If so, was it basically plug and play, or did ya have to reinstall OS?
If you use the SATA controller on the AN7 for your bootable drive you'll have to reinstall.
The AN7 uses the 3112, the Infinity NFII Ultra uses the 3114, they use different drivers and the PC wont boot if you just swap boards. Believe me, I tried :)
If you don't use SATA on your bootable drive you should be ok :)
thx for the tip..guess i better start backing stuff up.
Uninstall all your drivers (mobo, VC, etc.) then switch boards. It will make your life a lot easier. You will potentially get a crap load of errors if you just switch boards. Thats what I did NF7S to AN7 - just a swap. Then I uninstalled drivers to switch back to the NF7S because my AN7 sucked and it was very smooth sailing. Can't hurt to try anyway.
OSKAR_WU WE NEED YOU! I Need you!
Sorry about what i said man.. i didnt know who you were at the time plus i was just in a real bad mood cause i was having (still am) a real bad time finding a stable fast MB for my highly overclockable Barton. That and the wife toldd me to goto hell cause i had my heart set on buying a AMD FX system.
Anyways.. You need this place just as much as we all need you! We are the best test subjects that are willing and knowedgable enough to try anything for that outragious overclock! THis should be your home so come back and stay awhile :toast:
So i'm sorry for lashing out at ya like that.
Now to the fun part..
i've since bought up another DFI LP ultra B baord locally for 135 bukcs! hehe.. What a steel i tell ya.. Same place i bought a 9800 XT for 320 bucks as well! heheh.. They messed up i guess.. that sales guy quoted me the 320 price 3 times caause of there 20% off of all ATI graphics cards and the store manager said hell no.. The 399.99 is the price after the sale.. After a few words exchanged she left to have a chat with the salesmen and came back and gave in! heheh.. 320 for a 500 dollar top of the line card.. i love it.
Anywhoo.. This time i mod the board before installingg it and even trying it out so i wouldnt have those power issues this time..
I lapped both the north and south bridge.. Attached a Abit NB HSF to the SB with AS epoxy and slapped 2 very tall finned HS on the MOSFETS.
I used a Antec TP 550 P/S with a Unlocked 2600 Barton 2 sticks of 512MB Corsair BH5.
What happends is the same power issues but worse:
+3.3= 3.10-3.14
5.0= 4.70-4.89
+12= 11.55-11.70
It was runing with this though with the voltages maxed.. but durring a 3D game it would just reboot after about 5-10 mins.
So i pull out the old Antec 403 P/S a P/S that i could easily tweak the pots on it and tweaked the voltages to:
3.3= 3.51v
5.0= 5.40v
12.0= 12.34v
Once i turned on the board and got into the Bios i got readings of:
3.28-3.34v
5.19-5.22v
12.0-12.06v
Alot better then before! Did it help? Nope.. I still have rebooting issues! Really strange.. its only in 3d games.. I can get the computer completely stable in 3dmark loop test and prime95 but quake 3 will reboot the system after 10 mins or more.
The other issues i'm having is that my Keyboard is possesed! I notice it when i'm typing or playing Quake.. Some keys stick and others just go off that i didnt press!
I've only tired the newest 31 BIOS and the 18.
I get tthe same overclocking results with both..
I can get up to 260FSB benchable with one stick of ram. 3dmark loop stable at 255FSB and Prime95 stable at 250FSB.
Dual channel with double sided sticks in DIMM slot 1 or 3 stable in Prime 95 at 240x10 1.95v vcore and 3.10v Vdimm. 3Dmark is only stable when i put the ram at 3.20v.. Quake 3 reboots the system still.
Can only achieve total stability at 233x10.5 1.95v vcore Vdimm at 3.10v chipset at 1.80v. At 235x10.5 i am 3dmark loop stable but prime errors right away. Even with 2v vcore.
I've never owned a MB that gave me Keyboard issues.. and this is a PS/2 keyboard.. i wonder if it would still exist with a USB keyboard.. i'll pick one up soon if someone thinks it will solve the prob.
Need any more info just ask!
same with me, ANYTHING over 234, and it'll fail memtest, prime, super pi, whatever voltage combo I use.
that's with DC in 1+3. 2+3 is crappy.
with one stick, I can pass 245 memtest, but reboots instantly in SANDRA, WTF? :stick:
unrealneo, I'm stuck at exactly the same place as you.
OK....here is my question...
I admit, I have not read ALL of this thread... (I'm reading Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, I don't have time for TWO Uber novels!;) ) but I have read Most of it....
I'm in the market for a new board and I guess the question comes down to this.....
Would you buy the DFI again?
or something else?
if something else, What?
From reading this thread and others, it is obvious that people put quite a bit of thought and testing into their choices, as I do (am I a geek if I have pages of notes from various overclocks and settings and their corresponding benchmarks?:p: )
so based on that research... would you buy it again??
Bring it on... this thread needs a few more posts!!!:slobber:
