For all users , like with all WC units plz make sure ya mobo get's enough air flow to cool eg the NB, PWM's, rams etc... Small eg , the Asus Gene II's IOH got up to 90°C with the H50 unit. With a TRUE the IOH got up to 65°C under load. I installed an Antec Cool Spot, kept IOH temps under 65°C :)

No it's pure lack of airflow at that spot. Case is closed, cool air drawn in via the front via 2 x 120mm fans,.being sucked out by 2 x 120 on top... with the Antec spot (at L setting) cooler temps drop after a few mins... Same with the TRUE, it blows some air over it which is enough...

Thanks was wondering if it was better to mount it upfront with the same push pull config and leave the rear fan as a outflow?

I'm considering upgrading to this for my unlocked Phenom II 550BE. Does anybody know what Corsair is going to charge for the AMD adapter? Has anybody tested this with a Phenom II because I've heard they can become unstable above 55c when OC'ed? They perform better when cool. I see all the testing with i7's but how do they perform at lower temps like with the Phenom II against a True or Megahalem cooler?
the amd adapter is free, you just have to tell corsair that you want it.
Yes we have :-) No sweat, but results might be added to the review as it's another reviewer that's doing the AMD stuff... I will retest S775 and I7 and Massman will do the AMD CPU ( I hope)
We will not be using this as an excuse to "stick it to you", the AMD bracket will be a modest shipping and handling charge. To be honest it probably won't even cover most of the shipping and handling - but we found with PSU cables and stuff that we have to charge a small fee in order to cut down on people just calling up and ordering all sorts of free accessories with free shipping.
When they did a search by mailing address they found one guy they'd shipped 17 sets of HX620 cables to free of charge. I have no idea what he's doing with them, but the serial number for the unit was identical every time.
It'll be a few bucks for shipping, and that's it.
We are currently working on a mounting mechanism that will solve the problem so we can have 1156, 775, 1366, and AM2/3 in the box. We just don't have that solution ready yet, though.

That's good to hear. As you can see I like your products and have one of your PSU's, which I promote whenever someone I know needs a PSU. It's just now a days you never know, because their are a lot of company's that seem to care more about the bottom line than their customers.
As much as I hate push pins it would be convenient and one thing that the high end air coolers can't do due to their 800g+ weights. However back plate installation seems to almost be expected now and I do like the peace of mind a sturdy mounting system offers ( I'm very impressed by the NH-U12P mounting system )
Taking out your motherboard isn't the most fun but in all honestly assuming you mount it correctly what are the odds of changing your cooling solution repeatably between platform changes? (for those who aren't reviewers / benchers ) Anyways all this back plate shenanigans has made me become rather good at cable management so I can't complain :)
I'm still quite interested in this unit for use in a smaller mid tower case. It seems a little more lan friendly than a full tower with a TRUE and 15 fans :up:
Isn't that how all back plate mounting systems work? :cool: (my XP90, Tuniq Tower, Dtek Fuzions and Noctua all mount in that same way you mentioned )
I do know that the I7 socket area is reinforced ( and AMD have had a solid socket area since at least 939my DFI SLI-DR made the 775 look like crap ) so its really only 775 that really needs a backplate for something like this I'd say.
I'm most curious to see the NB, Mosfet and Memory temps comparing this unit to a tower cooler. One down side to the tower coolers is the fact they tend to cover up the socket area and surrounding components / heatsinks making them harder to cool ( I had much lower board temps using my Dtek Fuzion in tandem with my case fans due to less obstruction )

Buyers like me need solid numbers on a properly manufactured device. I have builds which fit the devices niche, but I'm not tossing aside my TRUE's without proof. The lack of reviews is costing Corsair $$ at this point.

i always thought it was released but the only store i have found with it is ncix which it appears he got it from too. newegg doesnt have it and neither does any of the other popular retailers. and i think corsair had a problem with the first ones they sent out. after they have a good supply of them and retailers start getting it in stock im sure there will be plenty more reviews.
Not sure how to respond to this as half my post is dedicated to those defective units.
Anyways, you are no doubt correct when you say as more retailers receive the device more reviews will appear.
Having said that, one need look no further then the GPU industry to see how many (not all), a smooth release is done. The reviews are completed ahead of time and on the day the Non Disclosures are lifted (usually the day of the release), the reviews are published.
While I admit to being impatient for this cooler, I'd much rather Corsair take it's time and release a product ready for prime time then a rushed POS.

thing I don't like about the H50 is you have hot air blowing into the case which just seems wrong to me
Review looks quite good, but I would like to see it on a D0, with a pair of S-Flex F's (push/pull to the outside) and tried with maybe some AS5 or Freeze.
Having recently spent £600 on my going to i7, I need to seriously justify another £60 to the wife.....:P
As long as you balance it out by having another normal intake fan acting as an exhaust, it doesn't seem to have a negative effect on temperature in most cases.
Obviously we can't test it in every case on the market, but if you have a side panel fan that you change from intake to exhaust, for example, you can get about the same ambient case temps.

Hmmm... would the radiator work FANLESS? I have no space for a 12cm fan anywhere in the H5 case.
For my HTPC i'm looking for a fanless replacement to a ninja mini on a E5300 (with 700rpm nexus fan).
What kind of performance can be expected?
Why not mount the fan on the outside of the case ?
@Deliverator I only had 2 screws that were a nuisance when using the razorblade sliding over it. For the S775 I don't think it was a problem (smaller IHS), for I7 it might have been as it seemed the bottomplate was slightly warped due to the screws.
It "may" work fanless, but I don't think you should do it anyway. The rad is configured/optimized for performance in good airflow conditions (tightly spaced fins) so it won't work well without it. Go for a SHURIKEN Rev.B instead...(or try to mount the rad or the 120 fan outside the case).
if the hose is long enough, run it through the fan hole and set it outside the case just siting somewhere, i dont think it will be any issue, from the video reviews i saw, it looks like it can hold itself together quire fine in transportation without support
I was thinking of a case mod and mounting the radiator horizontally outside the case with a push/pull fan on it. So it doesn't blow in or out of the case. Do you think the hoses are long enough to mount to the back of the case in such a position?

Phenom II will be tested IF there's an AM2/3 bracket in the review kit
Hoses are +/- 25Cm in usable length, total length is 28cm here but you need to take into consideration the 90° bend from the unit itself... I will test the new unit also out of the case by using Swiftech's RADBOX

Also if I understand correctly, for this to work efficiently it need to blow ambient air from outside of the case through the radiator instead, instead of the classical blow it out?
No mate I hope it still arrives this week, to get best perforamnce is ( and Ender17 has proven that too ) to get fresh ambient air to be sucked in... Air of the case is heated by all the components, plus air flow can be disturbed by cables, vidcards etc...

use a razerblade and go over the screws ( make sure you don't damage the TIM, in case you want to use it), if the razor gets stuck the screw is not fully countersunk. Best thing to do is to contact Corsair UK

Its on sale at newegg. I am tempted to buy one and do some testing. my 940 is not the best clocking chip, (Bought the first day they were available) But I know its good for 3.6-3.7GHZ.

According to hardocp true destroys h50, according to hexus h50 destroys true. Uhhh :/
The Hexus review uses Corsair's setup... have you tested a True with push or pull fan installation, makes a world of difference on my setup (4-5°C), I opt for fans via the front sucking in, the True with a push fan , and the rear fan that sucks out hot air, it's the most logic setup.
For the HOCP article, I think they will retest to with a new unit... I hope to have my tests done end of this week ( go go Corsair !!)

Have you seen a 4.6GHZ stable I7 CPU ? Till now these are very rare and sorry I don't buy it, I can post Everest screenshots on a very unstable rig;
Our maximum 24/7 overclock using our cooler selection with the i7 920 D0 resulted in a 4.62GHz clock speed at a respectable 220 Bclk
Gimme me some prime, some LinX, some Hyperpi and then I will say yihaaaaaaaaa. But not this... really funny if you call ya CPU 24/7 yet stresstest is completed at only 3.37Ghz...
Even with high end watercooling most users cap out at 4.2-4.5Ghz (and the latter are very rare) for 24/7

I just scanned the first 20 fastest results.
The fastest core i7 on water is 4.45ghz.
To get a stable vantage at 4.608 or above a single stage or colder is used.
I borked my MSI AM3 mobo with a new beta bios ( this due to a dying USB stick ) so will have to RMA it before being able to do the AMD tests... hope to have my new sample latest end of next week...
I have seen Vantage stable I7 CPU's on air at 4.5Ghz. That's not my problem, but calling it 24/7 stable at 4.6 is a bit out of bounce...
yeah I still got the old and hopefully soon the new unit... and hopefully a new AM3 board...
So is this thing living up to the hype? Can it actually cool an i7? I keep seeing so much conflicting info...it is making me very skeptical..
Initial reports show it at around the quality of the TRUE in push-pull configuration. So, if you've already got a TRUE don't bother. If you're new to the game and are looking at heatsinks for a new build it's not a bad option. It'd be priced about the same as the TRUE and some fans and would be a little quieter IMO.
At least with the TRUE in push/pull, you don't have to worry about your pump dying or a leak....

I don't see anything in his post that provides information about the H50 bringing in hot air
just some measurements of the exhaust air compared to ambient? that doesn't tell me anything
from my own testing, it's clear the motherboard runs about 4-5 C hotter with the H50 fan(s) used as intake vs exhaust
So no testings on Phenom II? :/
Any idea when we might see some Phenom II data? I don't mean to be impatient but this thread was started a month and a half ago and no reviewers seem to think that AMD needs immediate testing. It seems to be a after thought on most peoples minds. I know we're in the minority but this is a little annoying, the i7 people are also a minority. I would like to thank the testers , and I do appreciate the hard work of some people giving us their time to test this stuff! Just had to get that off my chest.

I'd buy the H50 if i only could place the radiator somewhere on my VF6000BNS case :( Because the thingie thats laced on CPU is very small, exactly where i have the least of space because of the PSU right above it.
I don't think that its performances change too much in push pull WHEN into the case there is already a very good ventilation ;)
Thanks for the review. A suggestion would be to provide real world experience for people who just put the thing together and turn on the computer. No overclocking and no voltage adjustments. This review results will only apply to a small percentage of people who happen to undervolt their computer. Not that this review was tailored for XS but for those of us who crank up the volts this review's importance will be quite limited. Thanks.

Most undervolted DO's kick CO's butt regarding heat output. I ran some 3d benches yesterday on the H50 at 4.4GHz 1.4Vcore set in bios (LLC disabled) with my i950. Didn't budge and all went fine.
You can't expect users or reviewers to prime or linpack their CPU's to death on a WC kit that costs as much as a high end air cooler... If my 950 can prime 4Ghz at 1.2Vcore , why should I do it at 1.3 or even 1.4 ? Because other users got cpu's like that or intend to run them like that ? Don't think so...
This kit is not intended to be used by users that run their 920's daily at 4.4Ghz or beyond. It was designed to be an easy to install, cost/performance effective and zero maintenance kit. Secondly FYI vcore is not immediately related to heat, more Vcore for the same clockspeed (comparing only CO and DO here) doesn't necesarrily reflect in more heat output. My CO's all ran far cooler than this DO with far more volts.
Yes, I totally agree with Leeghoofd. It is absurd to use an higher vcore when you can enjoy lower temperatures but the same stability with undervolt.
@HousERaT: However in some tests (starting from 3,6 GHz) the CPU was not in undervolt ;)
We decided to up the review (see signature), even when lacking the AM2/3 CPU scores ( I borked the motherboard via a bios flash ) Once the RMA is done, I'll retest and post the AMD scores here.
