WOW, I love the way this case looks! And I love the fact that the people at Corsair are taking an interest in what the people want. Really makes me very happy to see such involvement from a company. This will be my next case, no doubt about it.

Bump for update, Redbeard, my wife is gonna kill me because I have everything laid out across my desktop waiting for this case -_-
I wish this case wasn't so big, but I guess it has to be to fit all that stuff inside. Very nice job Corsair.
I know the production process is quite advanced, but these are some features I would be very pleased to see in future upgrades of the Obsidian line to make it perfect:
- Full 4mm aluminium body build (as the Zalman GT 1000, except for the 5mm aluminium front door). Not only the front and legs.
- 140mm fans everywhere (as the Lian-Li Tyr X2000, excepting the two 80mm fans at the back of the drive bays). I think we should take 140mm as the standard fan size nowadays. More airflow at same dBA, which is what all fans tend for. And maybe more than 1 (3 maybe?) intake 140mm fan to improve airflow.
- 8 expansion slots at the back instead of 7, to allow extra expansion panels (eSata, USB...) without taking the space of a motherboard port.
- Removable motherboard tray. This is a must for people that are constantly re-arranging parts and I'm very surprised the Obsidian doesn't include this feature.
- eSata port on the front panel (and maybe 4 front USB ports are way too much, I guess 2 are enough for the 99%)
- Filters
Honestly, IMHO only Lian-Li, SilverStone and Corsair could make it real, so that's why I'm adressing to you guys. Please don't take my personal inputs as a critic, just as some pieces of advice to improve your already outstanding products.
Cheers.
@ Cliff Burton
The production version does indeed feature filters, look for any of the pics/videos from June. As for full 4mm aluminum construction, I wonder if folks actually have a grasp on how much more expensive that would make a very large full tower like the Obsidian cost.
What price range is this case going to be in???
299 i think
The features of this case have attracted my attention as well. I really love the hole at the back of the mobo tray to change easily the cooler.
My biggest concern though is that it can host only 6 Hdd. With the prices so low for hard drives and the demand for more and more space it would be really nice to have more slots for 3.5" devices internal.
cliff burton, removable mobo trays in huge full tower cases are like windshield wipers on a submarine, an utter waste of time and tooling.
just my opinion though...
Well, I just commented it because I could'n't live without the removable tray in my TJ10.
I don't know the final dimensions of the Obsidian but maybe you are right, as long as you have enough space to work in, it is not that useful.
i think removable is just fine for any case. trying to get just the right angle can suck at times
the word "almost" scares me, as if he tried it out and failed, and now one of the cases has felt violated.
the corsair obsidian is 24"x24"x9"
for reference its got the same dimensions as a Mountain Mods Pinnacle 24
Has the release date for this bad boy firmed up any? Or is still just Q309?
News?
bump bump bump it up!
any news? haven't seen anything for a while.
HAY! Is the case going to lanuch in the US first, or will Europe get it at the same time?
OMG OMG OMG, corsair _o_
Awesome, cant wait for it to be released, im going to be either getting this, or the Raven 2.
Please post some pictures of the production / preview samples. :D
Where were the review samples sent? I would love to see this case be featured in MaximumPC's 2009 Dream Machine that should show up on magazine racks next month.
We were a bit late for the 2009 Dream Machine - but you guys that subscribe to Maximum PC will see a nice fold-out ad featuring Corsair products (including the case).
Review samples were actually shipped Monday - these ones were preview samples with the old CPU backplate cutout, they're going to a few very special partners of ours who will get them very soon I imagine.
Next week we should get a few full retail boxes here in the US - right now they're being manufactured by our partner overseas. I'll take some pictures of the shipment we get if you guys want.
Those will then go out to other review sites (and some other people), and the big containers will be filled with pallet after pallet of cases, then placed on a couple of ships, one of which will come here to the US and the other one will go to Europe. (probably a few will trickle to Australia/New Zealand/other parts of Asia as well...)
The goal is to have a simultaneous launch everywhere.
Guys...please check out the Corsair forum in the case section. Corsair is taking questions from the community regarding this case. I think they are going to answer the questions this Friday. :)
I'll be the guy answering questions and we're picking which ones and filming it tomorrow.
If you guys want me to answer your questions, check out the link here: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=79985
Post something, we'll pick the top 5-10 tomorrow and I'll answer them.
We hope to do this on a monthly basis or so, the first month it's me, maybe next month it'll be the SSD guy or the RAM guy, etc.
*tries to think of a use for the case* got nothin...I've currently got 3 cases and three systems...that and well....24 inches is taller than i have vertical room for by 3 inches, lol
Redbread...that thing is massive, and will be one of the few cases on the market with room to accomodate a duel slot cooled GPU in the 7th slot of a mobo...why isn't there an 8th bracket in the rear for this?
Video?
namco...its the same size as the mountain mods pinnacle 24... 24*24*9
Where is the video? :(
No problem, i'll be waiting, i have the money saved for her eheh :P nice job ftw

Only for the excellent support that Corsair has been giving to us, deserves my money. Then on top of that, we have the best case ever.
Btw do you know if the 8 pin cable of the HX620, can get up there to the motherboard, going behind the case? i think i can but only with de extensor cable :p:
Edit:
Link: First Look: Corsair Obsidian 800D

I found this now. Corsair provides HDD sata power cables with only 3cm between them, wich makes the connections in rigs with the HDD's very close a lot more easier, Omg http://www.avozdaaguia.com/avda/Smil...ult/love30.gif
Disappointed at the inclusion of firewire but lack of eSATA. The answer on their forums about USB 3.0 is a copout answer, especially with some parties working on powered eSATA.
Beautiful case. Love the pics on Bit-Tech. Can't wait to see some real reviews.
Its such a nice case, but the price, the delays and the fact that its not quite the next "must buy case" meens i will probably just order a ATcS 840 in the end to replace my HAF (ugly and made out of poor steel)
Cancel my last, could no resist when it came to preorder, cant wait !!!
any thoughts on watercooling this? looks like you can get a triple on the top easily.
A German review @Planet3DNow!:
http://www.planet3dnow.de/vbulletin/...82#post3999282
Is Corsair based in Europe? I thought they were U.S. based ...
If so, how in the heck are European companies getting their hands on this for review testing first - Bit-tech, then this German site ... etc.
Not a big deal. I know a smidgeon of German that helped me get through the review just fine. Still, I wonder a bit.
We're US-based (headquarters in Fremont, CA) but a large chunk of our business is in Europe.
We shipped some to US review sites too, they just didn't post their stuff yet. (One site specifically, the reviewer was on vacation so he didn't have a chance to play with it yet)
I've seen it listed at NCIX...not in stock yet though :( $300 pricetag canadian...lower than I expected, lol
edit, taking a quick look at the review, I'm seeing something that was noted at cebit with the feet not sitting flush- albeit nowhere near as bad
http://www.planet3dnow.de/photoplog/file.php?n=6903&w=o
and comparing to the cebit one
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=376
any word on that?
I don't even like that case. Nothin special or different about it. I'll be keeping with my recently ordered NZXT Apollo thanks.
Ca I see o photo of an actual production one, with the new slot, like the one i ordered?
I'll be curious to see if someone manages to easily fit a triple rad in the front. If it ends up being able to accommodate 2 loops with little modding, I'll be sold.
Cool, cheers for the quick responce!
Thought Redbeard mentioned something about the rad at the bottom?
Can we have those images of the production case today?
Pics please eheheh :P
Redbeard any chance of some pics today? I have to make my decision now on which case to get! It's between this and the atcs 840...
I really need to see what changes were made to the final product before i buy! HELP! :shakes:
Question regarding the Top 5.25in bay that is housing the Power Switch along with the USB and Firewire ports.
1) Is that bay the same size as a normal 5.25in bay? It looks a tad smaller than the rest of the optical bays in the picture.
2) Can it be removed / relocated to a different bay?
The reason I ask is that I need one more 5.25in bay than what the 800D offers for my next build (it has 5, I need 6), and I would like to use the top bay for that purpose. Just to clarify what I am trying to do, here is why I would like 6 usable bays.
Bay 1-Card Reader, USB, eSata, Power Switch
Bay 2-Optical Drive
Bay 3-Blu-Ray Drive
Bay 4-Reservoir WC Loop 1
Bay 5-Reservoir WC Coop 2
Bay 6-Fan Controller
I plan on removing the stock bay (hopefully it can be removed by simply taking out screws or maybe a few rivets), and replacing it with a Black Brushed Aluminum 5.25 to 3.25 in adapter to house a Card Reader that also has USB and eSATA. I could care less about firewire, so I won't be including it. I will also add a custom Power and Reset switch to the Bay Adapter.
As long as it is the same size as a normal 5.25in bay and can be removed, I will be able to do exactly what I want with this case. Obviously I can make do with 5 bays is I have to, but if its possible I would like to modify it to fit my exact needs. Thanks in advance for the reply.
The only change you'll see is the CPU backplate cutout was enlarged in order to accommodate just about everything.
Here's an idea of the new backplate cutout area:

Also, I haven't had time yet to get the cases out of shipping and receiving for an actual photo, but here they are sitting in the warehouse, fresh off the truck.

Can you persuade Blackbeard to send me one for a review :) don't want to bother him too much, scared of G.O. !!
Redbeard, send leghoofd one for review :P But relly wow, that cpu cutout is big, dose it still come with a door?
Oh and any more reviews due out soon?
Sorry if this has already been asked, but does the new cutout in the motherboard tray work for most AMD board also? I'll be buying one of these by the end of the month
http://www.corsair.com/appslab/080309cases.JPG[/QUOTE]
Oh Red, you're such a tease.
@redbeard Go on, unpack one and give loads of photos :) Next Monday is too long to wait for me
One thing I was still curious about is how heavy the case is being it is steel? Now I realize It's not a lan case or designed for easy movement by any means but I just need to know If I need to put in a forklift rental or if a simple dolly will suffice... :p: My TJ07 clocked in at over 20Kg with my single water loop in it which is already back throwingoutingly heavy.
And props again for going with an all black interior. It looks really sharp instead of the traditional unpainted aluminum. Now get some of these puppies shipping up to Canada stat
Full tower cases are heavy. Even the ATCS 840 weighs 35 lbs. and it it's mostly aluminum!
I'm sure this corsair will be a BEAST. But that's good. I like a solid case!
Somebody PLEASE verify if a second 2x120mm radiator can somehow be mounted on the bottom (in addition to the 3x120mm on top) for a dual loop system, and what kind of work it would take.
PLEASE!! :D
mhhhh we are in august... this is a thread from march... in the "news" section... *cough* :P
Well better release a product that the end user wants and Corsair seems to have applied many demands of the end users after the case's first exposure. Plus cases are timeless :p there's not that much pressure to beat ya competitor :)
please let us have some photos redbeard!
that's uber tease!
http://i42.tinypic.com/2zjl6aw.jpg
I want pics too _o_
sheesh.. nearly 500 posts and not a single pic. biggest tease ever
I'm drooling right now.
Wow I have been looking for a new case. Though the ATCS still has me.
A few questions that may of already been asked, but i was to lazy to go through all of the pages.
What is the case going to be made out of?
And I am guessing price range of around 100s to 200s? Am I correct on this?
sure, whatever... but why does this have to be in the news section? :stick:
just cause a thread gets updated every now and then that doesnt really mean it belongs in the news section...
its nothing against corsair, but im worried that we will have another and then maybe more and more threads in the news section where some manufacturer shows off their current or future product... thats not really what the news section is about :P
If the Op was Corsair I would agree Saaya. The Chassis was introduced long time ago, has gone through some cosmetic changes ( for the better if you ask me ) and seems to be ready for launch... Once it pops up in the shops, the lucky reviewer/buyer that get's one can post it in the forum reviews section...
I like that manufacturer Reps are here to keep us on track on what's going on (on threads not created by them but concerning a product made by them)... I prefer threads like this then the fanboyism stuff we get each time when there's something new on the horizon regarding CPU's or GPU's... this is far more relax... and admisn liek Movieman and co will keep an eye for sure if the manufacturers even think of doing a publishing stunt on Xs
I hope Corsair can start to ship these ASAP... as it seems very well engineered... but that's my own point of view on things... and the wait has been long enough :)
go go go go

same price, free del with super saver del
Due 9th Aug apparently
looks like its ready for water, tons of room
I like it
whats the diference?
imagine other manufacturers start posting threads about their new cases and heatsinks etc in here...
this thread is great! dont get me wrong!
but it doesnt belong in the news section... it belongs in the case, air cooling, watercooling or corsair section, but not news...
Nice case....
Shame no eSATA love in the front panel.....
Not a buy option for me until there is ;)
Why do many case manufacturers insist on including Firewire as standard but never even consider eSATA on their front panels???
It's a no-brainer these days I would think :)
