No clue AFI, I thought you'd run a cpu fan off molex tbh......I never use headers for CPU.

I wanted to try the whole fan control via AOD thing, apparently it was a bad idea.
AOD, the failings of this software, totaly outweigh any benifits it might have, personaly never have any fans running of the mobo, after a abd experiance a few years back, where a fan took out my mobo.
all fans running through a fused fan controler is my answer to that

The new bios on the ftp site 1702 seems as stable as 1602 to me...ive run into no problems with it under load or running benches...still has the cpu overvolt at least on my 7750be...
I guess chew will have to beat it up in the coming weeks to really find out...in all my years i believe he is the most crazy o/clocker ive ever run across and i really believe what he has forgotten is more than ill ever know about computers....
in my mind he is an engineer with balls of steel to beat on hardware like he does...i do so enjoy reading his posts....
i will be sticking with 1602 for a while,
Hi everyone. I bought 955BE to my M4A79 Deluxe, but i'm unable to get this work over 3600 without rising voltage over 1.4v, most get 3800 with same or less voltage.. Is this mobo just so poor overclocker? I had 720BE before and it oc'd very poorly also, even my old MSI overclock's better (DKA790GX)..
Is there anything to do with vdroop? My mobo drops vcore 0,02v or more under stress, is this with every bios or is it just mobo's "feature"? Anyway, every other part of this mobo looks to be fine, it's just poor overclocker.
1704 bios is out
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so.../M4A79_Deluxe/
1704 seems ok so far getting 3.5ghz at 3.3v could not get that before at them volts
Warning about 1704 /w 965 and DDR2. Not sure if it was a hardware issue, but I'm almost 100% sure it was this BIOS causing extremely bad memory errors. It corrupted my Vista partition. The OS is FUBAR. Can't even install catalyst drivers.. :shakes:
It would only happen with a stick in the first slot (yellow one closest to CPU.) Running just one stick in the 3rd slot would pass memtest multiple times. But running a single stick (either one) in the "bad" slot or in both yellow slots would cause countless errors in memtest.

I updated to 2101 and the issues were instantly resolved.
im still running 1602 herer, cracking bios, and i have been on holiday for a while so have missed a couple of updates, although i did see the 2101v on the ftp site.
have you got any increase with clocks with it?
Jeez they pump out BIOSes for this thing like crazy... Good find soundood.
M4A79 Deluxe BIOS 2101
1. Fix the maximum available ratios in setup is decreased by 3.0x when using certain CPU.
2. Fix the current ratio of CPU is decreased by 3.0x when TurboKey is pressed and the car/jet/rocket mode is applied.
WTF is "car/jet/rocket mode"
yeah seems they have released one every other week, as for car jet rocket mode who knows, might have something to do with the turbo feature
im holding of flashing to 2101 until next week, i got the kids back at school this week, and i want to run a few tests with the new bios, without distraction, if you know what i mean
roll on next week, i got so much time off coming up (about a month) before i start another contract
2101 is unstable for me
setting up bios, changing random settings locks system on reboot
noticed that any change in bios results in shutdown and reboot, this occured only when i changed the nb speed
back to 1704
How about bios 2206 on 940be proc, it good or bad for overclock ?
Just updated to 2206 and so far so good. I was fine on 2101 as well though.
And of course there is no processor there that requires this BIOS.Quote:

EDIT: Seems like they took it down from the downloads site.
Hey there,
I desperately hoping that anyone can help me out with my asus board.
Currently running:
Asus m4a79 deluxe
4gb corsair twin2x 8500c5d
amd 720 x3 be
As soon as I start doing something that puts pressure on my memory i get bluescreens/freeze/reboot. Prior to the latest bios 2206 i was getting reboots followed by this msg when posting "Hypertransport sync flood error".
I've been all over the web looking for solutions but nothing is really solid.
I RMAd my memory and got a new sticks which worked fine for like 1month, now the problem is back.
Am I running any settings wrong?
Voltages:
CPU: 1.337V
SB volt: 1.2V
Ht volt: 1.28V
ht 1.8: 1.8V
NB V: 1.2V
Dram : 2.1V
Memory settings:
DDR 1066
cas 5
trcd 5
trp 5
tras 15
trc 22
commandrate: 2T
rest on auto
If I could get any hints where to start looking and juggling around would be awesome and thank you in advance for any help.

Board has some vdroop issues Kurik so you may want to bump cpu volts a tad over stock. Try using cool and quiet maybe as well.
Anyone running a x2 545 on this board yet? I accidently bought one instead of the 550... MAX fsb limit looms...
Thx for the reply Jethro.
Im actually on my third pair of memory sticks now, the first two pairs broke on me and thats me running things on stock volts and no crazy stuff. 2.1V on ram as specified, and im just worried the problem is coming back to me in a month or two.
Running my cpu on slightly higher voltage and I did 15+ hrs of memtest without errors, altho one core failed in wprime after 5hrs whatever that tells you i dont know.
WOOT 2206 is dandy! Unlocks my 545 to Quad!! Mmmmm time to overclock!
Seems as good as any of them. Recovers from a bad overclock setting best of all.
Another solid board from ASUS? =)
So far so good! Benched at 3.99 last night! Anyone else clocking a 545/550?
I have a strange issue with quad unlock, for some reason it messes up anything flash related? But otherwise ultra stable. Also cannot get triple core settings to work! Anyone else tried this with 2206?
or 2206 supports the Phenom II c3?
I don't know if here's the appropriate place to ask, but...is there anyone from you that use the board with watercooling? I'm interested in the possibility to remove the heatpipe, so I can place the NB block, without replacing the heatsinks from the mosfets and SB. Is it possible?
2405 BIOS is out, don't know what changed.

1. Fix the system may hangs randomly when adjusting VCORE/VDDNB voltages in TurboV with Cool'n'Quiet enabled.
2. Add a prompt string and small icon to show the current number of cores under Unleashing Mode.
3. Add a hotkey to enable Unleashing Mode in POST state.
Bios seems good! I still get adobe flash errors when in unlock! Otherwise ultra stable @ 4ghz......im stumped!
hi what is the best BIOS for my 940BE?
i use 4x2GB kingstone hyperX 8500 and windows7
i have tray BIOS 2206 but i cant past 205x18@3690 1.5Vcore.
in windowsXP with my M3A32 i was get 218x17.5@3815 1.47Vcore with 2x1GB crusial traser 8500
sory for my english
I'll have to try the new BIOS... still on 2206.
Has anyone else noticed that DDR800 setting OCs better than DDR1066? I'm guessing the higher divider/ratio/whatever its called puts a greater strain on the IMC. Either that or there are more aggressive hidden settings that go with DDR1066
200*18=3.6 DDR1066 setting = fails OCCT consistantly
267*13.5=3.6 DDR800 setting (puts ram at DDR1066 speeds) = passes OCCT
Or maybe I just borked my chip because it used to do 3.7 at this voltage and that was before I lapped it and went push/pull on my TRUE.
If you use am2+ use divider 800, to get better oc, now i use am3 965be, it work well when i use 1066 divider
i set sb volt into bios 1.2v,but AOD report 1.35v in windows, it produce more heat, i must set manual into AOD to get 1.2v sb voltage
i think we don't need 1.35v sb voltage to make system stable on default or overclock condition.
anyone have same problem with me ? It is normal
Sorry about my bad english

1. Fix the system would generate full-reset automatically when pressing key " 4" at RAID Option-ROM.
Unfortunately the Unleash mode is messed up, I can't activate all four cores, only three. Back to 2405 it's working fine.
I use water cooling and i can tell u that pwm heat is the main issue when clocking this board i think water cooling the pwm would net the most gain
I get the same issue where sb is always 1.35v
Cant get fresh os install to go in quad mode get some crypto strap error
She is prime stable 3.85 1.5v 2660nb. She is stable at 4ghz 1.55 but Over 1.5v seems to hard on pwm and it will overheat also For some reason my cpu nb needs 1.375 to be stable which adds to the heat problem
Just ordered a new primary drive wd 500aaks and will try quad install again once it arrives
Hmm i have 2 AMD stock cpu fans over my NB/PWM and that certainly helped. When in quad mode she seems to get hot tho. I have my new WD 500aaks here and im just waiting on some new cables and 120mm fans to redo my whole setup. Gonna reinstall OS as quad *hopefully and redo my custom case to a better push pull setup as well as get some more flow under the motherboard.
Yes AOD is what i'm using to monitor volts. Wasnt sure if it was reading right thanks for the tip. Odd you can set it to 1.2 and it sticks with AOD tho... hmm
New BIOS arrived:

Edit: Four core runing fine, and much quicker RAID HDD initialization @ boot.
Hey guys :) Anyone had problems with oc'ing...I hardly make it run "everything on default". Every time I try to raise the HT Ref. Clock it boots, but freezes somewhere at the post screen and after restart the board resets its settings. I tried several bios versions, tried to swap memory modules to different slots, tried with one stick of ram also, but I can't make them work even at the rated 1200Mhz. I've checked with all my 3 CPUs - no difference. The unlocking is working although and it unlocked the second 550 to X3, which is more than i got on M3A78-T, the other one unlocks to X4 perfectly like before. I'm gonna try that last bios version (2603) maybe tomorrow, but the mobo swapping is pain in the ass with these waterblocks, because i have to detach them from the old board with the whole mounting hardware (springs and so on), detach all cables and reattach after that to the "new" board. Btw, do you have 1200 RAM profile? I don't have, but thought the board would has, because of the "O.C. 1300" thing on their site. Also on some of the bios versions it was mentioned that it supports 1200MHz DDR2 from that version.
I don't want to go to DDR3 board for now and one of the reasons is this
Update:
I managed to run it with the 24/7 settings I used on the old board, but for some reason it needed 1.5625V to CPU/NB for 2760MHz NB :( I used to make 2900+ on the old board with 1.45V ! This one did about 3000 with 1.65V, damn...too high. And it was impossible before i switched the position of the CPU_OV jumper. There's another thing - NB voltage max value is 1.4V, but on the old board I could increase it to 1.6. Probably I don't need it, but...
new bios 2708
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so.../M4A79_Deluxe/
memory seems real sluggish on this tho anyone else tried it ?
I've got no problem with it.
[ 2708 ]
----------------------
1. Fix the system may hang at OS LOGO when C1E/EnergyStar5.0 is enabled in BIOS with certain CPU.
2. Add two items at chipset\RD790 Configuration\PCIE Configuration to configure PCIE_X16_2/PCIE_X16_4 as X8 mode. This fixes any X4 devices plugged on these two slots is treated as X1 devices.
3. Fix the floppy control is still shown in the Device Manager when floppy drive is disabled in BIOS setup.
4. Remove "GFX Dual Slot Configuration"/"GFX 2 Dual Slot Configuration" in BIOS setup.
5. Fix the system hangs at OS shutdown when overclocking CPU with AOD and enabling EPU function.
I feel like I'm flashing a new BIOS every other week... I'll give it a go later.
I recently (after 11 months of ownership) put a fan over the PWM area. Just a small 60mm stock AMD heatsink one. Not sure if it made a stability difference but I finally took an IR thermometer to the mosfets and they were running ~190F under OCCT load :eek::eek:
No problems here running great! Seems very refined.
2405 best bios for me to run ddr1200
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/918/0946dpmw.th.jpg
bios 2206,2502,2603 have failed @primeblend stability
Finally made 2750+ NB wooT. Anyone have suggestions for a NB stability test to tweak volts? Oddly enough better Ram is what got me over the hump. I did get a new 600watt psu to not sure if thats helping either...
I use nb@ 2.8 1.375v and it's stable!:yepp:
NB is interesting to say the least. I was at 3.7ghz 2376NB with 1.4VNB and got BSODs. Bumped the VNB up to 1.425 and my stability issues went away. I'm now pushing 3.8ghz 2620NB with the same 1.425VNB and no issues. Haven't tried further but I highly doubt 2882 (next step, 262*11) would be even remotely stable seeing as that's an impressive NB clock even for the new C3 chips.
2708 SUCKS (with my configuration at least). Was having stability issues and sure enough linX crashed after about 10 minutes when I ran it. Flashed back to 2405 based on izallica's recommendation and sure enough I was stable again. Actually, my GFLOPS are more consistent than before with 2603 or whatever it was.
Cpuz 1.53.1 didn't match detect vcore on this board
so far with the 2708 i've noticed the
ht speed option doesn't display 2000, it shows 2200 twice
but works normal first one is 2000 second is actually 2200
My board having a vcore problem.the voltage is incorrect where it sits at 1.088v.(amd cool n quite disabled by default). Which my target is 1.375v for Phenom 965be @ default speed 3.4ghz. so it cannot load windows, when i change manual vcore it need 1.65v then hardware monitor show 1.40v & load to windows succesfully.
I do clear cmos, changing psu, try another bios but problem still appears, vcore drop to 1.088v with all auto setting on bios & cannot load to windows.
Any ideas ?
Never seen anything like that before
Did you tried taking out the battery for about 10-15 minutes when clearing CMOS? Or reflashing the BIOS?
^ i did but still error, now i set jumper ov to get 1.9v on bios then when load to window everest read 1.5v on vcore
That sounds bad, maybe RMA time? :(
Thats good idea
got new m4a79 dlx from RMA, still rock
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/138/4050q.jpg
Nice!
I don't know why, but CPU-Z hates me, it doesn't show the real Vcore or VID

now cpuz 1.54 show real vcore in windows
Cpu-z 1.54 shows Southbridge as "ID439D' not SB750. Vcore is correct now.
Any practical difference with 3204 bios ? Stability/OC -wise ?
anyone done any testing on this Bios, anymore stable ?
Sadly, i checked new bios and it still has the same Raid Rom ver. 3.0.1540.59 .
I am aware of a newer version, 3.2.1540.6 but haven't seen it yet in other board than one GB that i also have.
Effect of this newer rom is faster disc scanning at bootup, as far as i've seen in my testing.
the bios seems a little better seems stable for the most part Im able to run 3.9 while gaming something I haven't been able to do for a few bios, I haven't done any testing other then gaming

anyone thuban user here ?

upgraded from 3204 w/o issue! seems solid. 6core someday soon!
if you do not have a AMD x6.... CPU DO NOT USE Bios
3501 it will cause your Multi to be locked at X4 and no way to revert back to prior Bios without getting the
"version in ROM file is older then existing board!" i tried the way mentioned on the Asus site : there is 2 threads on the subject http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us nothing has worked so far any suggestions would be great and helpful ..
3501 is working fine on my board
Try this version of AFUDOS: Link
And the command is: afudos /ibiosname.rom
3501 is working fine for me too since yesterday...
mine worked great yesterday until I tried to roll back the Bios. thanks sunfire thats what I had to do to roll it back.
relatively new bios 3603
seems good so far
using it about 4 days now
that bios has been out since 06/21/2010, for the latest bios info heres the FTP site: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...3/M4A79_Deluxe
there is also a thread on here detailing beta bios's for this board (among others)
is any way to downgrade from BIOS 3603 to BIOS 2603?
just download the 2603 from the ftp ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...3/M4A79_Deluxe
and flash as you would normally
I guess you'd better do this the old way, not from windows utility....
same problem with ez flash 2 utility
I never flash bios in windows , i always use dos to flash them with a usb boot stick, it's alot less dangerous ..
In my experience of this board flashing to an earlier version was blocked by the flash tools. When I needed to do this last year I had to use an old version of the ASUS afudos flasher from a DOS boot disk. There was a step-by-step procedure posted to these boards.
