Thanks, come on over!
The BP rotary 90 is what I would have used.
Once again, the BP rotary 90 is your best bet.

Mini update. I installed both sideplates, Blu-Ray, Aquaero and the HDD's. The HHD cage has a 120 Scythe on top of the cage. I still haven't figured out the VC wiring issue and I am very limited with options. I have all the fans connected to the Aquaero along with a water temp probe, HDD temp probe and case temp probe. I will say this; the Scythes at full power really force the air through the Feser. Sorry for the crappy pics!

One big mistake on my part was to sell my last blue LCD Aquaero to sigfever! The green VFD doesn't' look right. Oh well, I always have JW Blue!
Tomorrow the lighting goes in a great deal of wire management. I am still on target for a Sunday boot-up or a cloud of smoke. Now if the Zen Frog would send me my case window!
I cannot find the picture, but I think Shoggy had a picture/link of just modding a bay cover to only reveal only the Aquaero screen and three buttons. It was very clean looking and would match the case.
Also, have you checked out all the filter colors they have available for the VFD version. I have about three colors if you want to try, but you can also get them online. Joel bought some and seemed happy.
Good progress, but do we really have to wait til Sunday to see it go poof, oops, I mean boot-up :up::up:
I'm sure it's going to be perfect.
Need opinions on this one. I remounted my HDD's horizontally using black rails and rubber bushings. The rails stick out a bit as you can see, which bothered me at first, now I am not sure. The vertical setup made the four drives pretty tight and I didn't like the labels or the backside of the drives showing.

I blacked out the barcodes.....

LMK what you think. TIA
Nice man!
Why not use the standard TJ07 hard drive cage, put the drives it in and mount it so the BACK of the HD cage is facing towards the inside of the case, then you'll only see a black bit of steel with a fan on top ;)
I actually like them liket hta.
Makes them look industrialy and tough :p:
Which LED's? I'm sure a bit of tape could cover them up.
I herewith approve your horizontal setup. ;) Fills up the space nicely especially the "usually empty spot" in a TJ. Perfect :) Remember: Stickers don't belong on harddrives anyways :D Good job even that I still ask myself if you do flashlight shots :D
I want more hadd's now
I want to fill that gap :D
I will rip out your flashlight - I promise :D You are such a great man and so you should invest some time in good "soft" lighting. It would quadruple the entertainment-factor :D
Also prefer the horizontal placement of the HDs.
I'm actually very glad to see that you mounted them horizontally, because I've been considering mounting mine the same way.
My other option is to mount my three drives right next to the PSU. Hopefully I can at least make one work. The way you have them mounted really looks great!
But since I'm air cooling, I might need to keep all the heat I can away from the main components.
All this progress is well and good, but I'm dying to see the pics of the first boot up!!!! Your patience is killing me.
Thanks Snyxxx:D It is growing on me.
I am guessing you will be using the SS provided HHD cage? If so, you will be fine. My server has three HDD's in the bottom with the fan. It runs 24/7 and the HDD's are fine.
Thanks for the
Patience my dear! It is amazing what you can accomplish listening to Diana Krall, Elaine Elais, Jane Monheit, Cheryl Bentyne and Tierney Sutton! Thank God for my i-pod and my Bose headphones, total immersion and no commercials! Priceless.
Trust me, it will boot soon:D I promise;)
Shazza - you will see fireworks, because his energy-supply is too high :D
Hijacker: I am starving to see your air-cooled setup, because I can't decide if I go for air or sparkling-water. Where is your thread btw?
Well, I tried it initially with the SS one, because I really like it. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to hack off the fan, and I'm a little scared of that. It's just too wide to fit in the space. I've contemplated looking around for something else to use, but ultimately I just haven't decided yet.
Hopefully I can make it work there. It would nestle in so nicely and leave so much extra room for me to one day watercool.
Hey Nils,
I'm just comfortable with air for now, and I'm not ready to take the plunge just yet. Hopefully someday I'll do it.
I thought you were already aware of my thread. Feel free to mozy on over to OCN and drop me a comment! I'd love to see you there. (And anyone else, for that matter. I love all the people here at XS! Hugs all around!)

I'm afraid I'm at a bit of a standstill for now with the build. I haven't really made any progress here lately. At the moment, I'm waiting on some m|M sleeving from Charles, and he's waiting on it from you. Is it on the way yet? :D
And thanks again so much for the sig, I love it!
Looking great, Seeker; I'm with Shazza et al., in that I like the horizontal mount of the HDD's. What kind of nails and bushings are you using?
I mounted my Hdd using some cooltech hdd heatsinks, which make it fit perfectly.
Cools it too :D
I do hope your First boot goes far better than mine :(
But I'm sure that PSU will cause some fireworks as Nils says :D
:D
The scotch is flowing and the cigar is burning!
I have a bit of tidying up to do with cables and I have to redo a couple of wires on the 24 pin, just the HS, a few molex changes and that is it!
With the exception of my window...still waiting on Charles and the Zen Frog!
Now I am planning a redo of my server:eek:
Excellent news! And glad we didn't have to wait until Sunday :)
Congratulations, Rocky! Enjoy your smoke and drink!
I'm an Opus X or vintage Padron Anniversario man myself.
Congratulations on a successful LC build Rocky!
I know that you've still got a few bits to sort out but I just wanted to say that it's been an absolute pleasure to follow your progress. You've kept things highly entertaining with your personality and enthusiasm. You're a total class act my friend and I look forward to seeing what you're up to next.
Who knows, perhaps one day you may even get your side panel back... although I must say that it's nice knowing I've got a spare on hand... ;)
Press On. :)
Nice!
Know we just need to see it clocked higher?
More JIGGAWATTS PWEASE! :D :D :D
Congrats on the build! Well executed,
And yes, I am still looking for my PB's. :shakes: I am quite sure they're in the basement storage room...the dog fears that room.
So, now that you have it running...have you installed BOINC yet?
I know this may be a little early, but would you mind sharing some temperatures with us?
I am really curious about that Feser quad. Mine just arrived yesterday.:D
Dr. SiG, calling Dr. SiG...
You have a patient needing assistance with installing BOINC!!!
Going through your thread it dawned on me i haven't told you how great it looks.
Get the PCI-e cables untangled :D and you have an absolutely stunning build, work of art!
I will post some temps tomorrow....still fussing with wires!
I have scotch and sleeving for therapy:D
Thanks Zeus! There is no way to change those VC cables, beleive me I have tried. The two separate connectors cause a lot of problems. The bend between the two is too tight. I have other cable issued still unsolved.
I will post some pics later so I can get some input!
Here we go. I bought two lights just for Nils! Bare with me, it may take me a while to get this trick down and to complicate things even further, I did these in Photoshop. My watermark will change, but as usual, I was in a hurry...prepping dinner and of course the scotch was calling as well.
The overall shot...not finished, but getting closer:D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01707.jpg
Please disregard the zip ties, just a test.......however, I think I am hooked on blue tubing!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01710.jpg
I haven't lined up the HDD's yet as I am still struggling with all of these :banana::banana::banana:ing wires! However, I highly recommend the HDD kit. The bushings make the Raptors totally silent and they have a rubber backstop. Priceless!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01711.jpg
Finally!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01713.jpg
A boatload of wires to manage!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01715.jpg
As usual, one artistic photo....I wish!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01717.jpg
So much more to do!
This project has really been a joy to watch and it's nice to see it come together. Those pesky wires always make it a challenge to finish off nicely, but you've given me a lot of great ideas for an SLI build. The pictures are improving and looking good.
Press on! hehe
I forgot to post this one. Once again, a boatload wires!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...frontwires.jpg
Seeker, I think it looks great. I, too, really like the hdd's mounted there. Looks like some kind of mega server or something. Also....I hate to tell you this...but you need to shorten your wires
I am watching this with interest. I can just imagine you staring at your cables, having a sip o' scotch, staring again, repeat ...
You'll get it sorted, I'm sure. Cable management is the most frustrating part of the build, but rewarding once you get it the way you want it.
theseeker, i'm with headala on this, if you shorten the sata power cables you're getting rid of the loops and it will look very clean. If you ever plan to rearrange the harddisk setup you might have a problem though. Actually, having some length on the cables is not bad as long is it's all organized. In that pic it doesn't loook bad at all and above all, it will be out of sight.
Oh and yes, the horizontal mount looks good indeed.
Quick! Put the faceplate on, then forget about them! :D
I always find some place to hide my mess :D
this is coming along niceley!
i just wanna ask about the HDD's, how are they cooled with that MM faceplate on the case?
Thanks Alan...they should be cut, but they wont be.
You are not kidding!
Thanks Zeus!
My thought too!
Thanks! I have a 120 fan at the top. Sorry, didn't show it in the pics.
Hey Rocky...nice job on the sleeving! I am also impressed with the hardware. I gotta say I'm diggin' that blue tubing too! So many good ideas...love the inverted res and drain valve/tubing idea. I'm tearing my system apart and right about now I wish I had done something like that.
Many thanks ShoNuff!
Unfortunately, tragedy struck after 2.5 days. I had some weird problems with my VC's before I tore the system apart for this build, but I figured it was probably driver bugs. I got a CMOS ERR on my LCD poster today...so I reset the CMOS and everything was fine, or so I thought. I booted again and everything was fine. A few minutes later "POP" and one of my VC's was gone.
I got a bit nervous, did I wire something wrong? I wouldn't think so after at least 48 hours of run time. Taking no chances, I pulled my 1Kw SS Strider out of my server and used it cables on the new rig. Same results. I then popped the Zeus into the server and the server worked fine. It still is four hours later.
Needless to say I have :banana::banana::banana: strung out everywhere! However, I did manage to get the i7 to 4.0 with no problems and my temps were excellent. My water temp was consistently between 30-32C and the highest core temp I saw was 64C. I was too busy tweaking to post any screen shots.
Since I will be tearing everything down again, big sigh, I have to decide if I should upgrade the VC's or stick with the 280's. If I do decide to upgrade should I go nuts and get 2x295's or 2x285's?
BTW, I will probably sleeve the Strider as it will totally solve my PCI-e wiring problems! Thoughts?
Maybe it's just a single video card that's the problem and not the motherboard and video card(s). Sorry to hear about the misforurune.
Sorry to hear about the hardware issue ... always a pain when you've put everything together.
285 or 295? Tough decision. I'm delighted with my 285s, but would have to seriously think about the 295 if buying now.
Whoa, seeker, so sorry to hear about that. PM me if you need any help troubleshooting, though I imagine you know a lot about it already.
Thanks John, In this case it may be turning chicken :banana::banana::banana: into chicken salad!
Thanks BA, the MB seems to check out ok. Once again, should I upgrade the VC's?
Thanks Shazza! Dual 295's are tempting, but from an aesthetic point of view, 2x285's would look better.
Thanks folks!
Keep the 280's, you won't notice any difference going with 285's and 2 280's will be better than one 295. And since quad SLI isn't great I wouldn't get two of them.
Stay with the 280's and keep it simple.
Yeah, the 285s do, I think, look better than the 295s. One of the reason I went with the 285s was I thought the water blocks would be simpler to install and look better/cleaner.
BA is probably right about sticking with 280s, unless you have a use for the one that still works elsewhere...
I do think shazza's 285 blocks are dead sexy, but I don't know if you want to drop a grand on cards and blocks for minor improvement.
The new 280's are on their way and I ordered more sleeving. I have decided to use the Strider PSU instead of the zeus. Unfortunately I have sleeve a number of new cables. The good thing is that my VC wiring issue will finally be solved.
have you got a pic of where the fan is mounted above the HDD's and how you did it...u got me intreguied now!
I didn't manage to get a pic of that but it was quite simple. Actually there a couple of ways to do it. I have so many old pc parts laying around and I used an old 5.25 L shaped bracket, painted it black and the fan set on top of it.
Anything you have laying around that was intended for 5.25 bays can be modified to make it work. I wired it into my Aquaero and that was it.
I will start again on Friday afternoon and I will post some pics then.
:shocked:Just finished reading this whole things from the start.
EPIC BUILD!
Congrats. She's a beauty. I will toast with a glass of RYE!:toast:
Sorry to hear about your videocard troubles man. Are you sure the block made good contact with all components on the card it's supposed to make contact with? If not something might have overheated perhaps?
I think the Strider is a modulair psu as well, how about using the cables of the Strider on the Zeus PSU? Don't know if that will fit off course but it will solve your wiring problems and you can still use that Zeus powerhouse. :yepp:
AH man Seeker, I hope your problems are sorted ASAP. We need to see that build in action :)
The cable bends were too tight.
Many thanks!
I was having trouble with them before this build. They were in my previous system and it appears to be a case of bad luck. Unfortunately I will have to re-sleeve most of the cables. The SATA and molex cables are the only ones I can use.
Thanks! I am going to start re-sleeving today or tomorrow.
All of the new parts have arrived! This is my third Psychopack in two months. I will be doing a dry-run tomorrow to insure everything works.
Pics and a big updates over the next two days....stay tuned.
BTW, I have couple of new "twists" in store.
Hehe, I am sleeving my PSU and some fan wires that need resleeving. So I am not alone this weekend... :D^^
i just sat and read this post front to back..all i can say is WOW.....im starting my 07 build next week and will use my fesser 480 like you have. i may have missed this in my read but did you use the inverted back and mid plates? i believe its done to make the psu 24 pin reach right? or is that the stock silverstone mounting?thanx again ...just want to make sure i order the right stuff from mm next week..
Scotch and sleeving. it just doesn't get better than this. :ROTF: :toast2:
Rocky,
Can you buy the GTZ mounting hardware (black nuts & springs) for the AC HD CPU block separately? I cannot seem to find these alone anywhere. Thanks.
I think your only hope is to contact Swiftech themselves, but you might have a hard time getting replacement parts if you never bought a GTZ to begin with.
Michelle (Swiftech rep) was kind enough to get me 2 sets but I'd hate to start a trend of buying just the mounting equipment.
Rocky, I'm glad to see your sorting out the issues with this and I'm excited to see the surprises you have in store. Keep up the good work.
Hi Nils,
subscribed to this great thread some time ago. :D
Sleeving goes well, just started working on the 24pin... the lighter trick worked out well - have to thank you for that. The hairdryer works as well, but takes longer to get the hs to shrink.
Took some photos, but that does not belong here.
@theseeker
Having Scotch while sleeving is great - it helps to forget the aching fingers. :ROTF:
Rocky I'm glad you got everything sorted out. I'm looking forward to your next update.
Have you considered Mips chipset blocks for your board? I just saw a pic and thought their gear looked sweet on the R2E.
I am happy to report that all of my replacement-upgrade parts have arrived!
I would post pics, but sigfever asked that I not in order to keep him from spending more money!
Glad to hear you're back in business Rocky. :)
Looking forward to your next update!
Can't wait to see this build up and running again.... looking forward to seeing the new parts also.
Is the Rampage II Extreme mobo that much better than the Asus P6T Deluxe v2?
The saga continues.........

The new gear....

And of course, one can never have enough.......
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DSC01734.jpg
I have never purchased OC'ed VC's cards so I figured I would go FTW!
The EK blocks are quite sexy to say the least and I am looking forward to seeing them in the case. The Aqua box contains something not seen here before and if all goes well, you will see it this evening.
I am about to do an out of the case start up on air to make sure everything works!
This just in.....it works! Fired it up with all 12GB of RAM and the new 285's. Everything came off without a hitch. Now back to the laboratory!
