I see the ram is still mating, another week and you could open a retail outlet
I have just wasted 15 mins of my life on here.
Yes, I get the Det Ram post error. Btw thanks for your posts in the big thread youve been quite helpful.
Its funny but crackling sound and UT crash doesnt mean instability. Google the Ut3 crash and you ll see. Most people have it.
And something else.
I see many misleading posts here, I dont like the way some people OC. Getting every voltage they see as high as they can without finding the sweet spots. For example to get 400 fsb stable you dont need 1.4x voltage. Even lower works. People that dont use WC for their NB should be careful of their voltages.
Dont forget that each mobo gives different voltages even if you set the same settings in bios.
It is very important that people monitor the temps in full load, OCCT and everest work fine.
Well, unfortunately for me, I DO require more than 1.4v on NB for stable operation with 4GB of D9GMH and a quad core. My board requires 1.5v for proper operation.
wit ha dualcore, yes, I can use less votlage, but there is far less load put on the northbridge from a dualcore than from a quadcore, so while those volts may be good for you, there is no way you can say that ANY votlage is too much, or too little...it depends on alot of things, not just the board! Instaleld components and cooling greatly have an affect on required voltage!
I tested my QX9650 on the maximus formula non-SE. 0907 bios seem to be the better on my mobo for the stability, but sometimes, it is very hard to recover after black screen. Cut the power suply, cmos don't work. I need to use before my E6850. Someone have an idea ?
I just installed my Formula NON -SE rev 1.03g, it came with the BIOS 0505 along with a Q6600, and various ram laying here( Crucial 2GB/ G.SKill 4GB), still dont know if there is a improvement from 0802 official BIOS to the newer betas 0903/ 0907, or shall I wait for a official release. I just want to run 400x9 or 425x9 , depend how good my new Q6600 is, it has a VID of 1.2125, seems promosing. So can I achieve this with 0802, without bumping to much volts, and having some nice ram overclock aswell.
I have exact the same vid on my CPU as you. My results are:
440x8 -> 1.3375vcore
450x8 -> 1.3500vcore
460x8 -> 1.4375vcore
410x9 -> 1.4000vcore
420x9 -> 1.4400vcore
all min. 5hours prime stable.
can´t go over 420x9 got still reboots in prime95. Also over 1.5xvcore on the CPU.
Yea it seems low VIDs isnt telling everything, I think I just have to test this sucker out:)
I got my non-SE today. It`s revision 1.03G and I installed it with the whole asus pipe still mounted first. I flashed to 0903 and the settings from 1. post for 3,6ghz are working with one change: I had to lower TB from enabled level 1 to enabled level 2 and it works, rest is still the same but did only short tests with prime and memtest.
My NB temperature is very good with standard asus pipe: 39° idle and 44-45° load.
Going to play wc3 now :)
Will completely testing this board the next days/week.
Pretty stupid, huh. Newegg is giving me a refund though so I have a new one on order. I'll send the old one out as soon as I get the new one. I swear, the first board I got was awesome, just the firewire didn't work. This one is chugging away at 400fsb with no problems now, just the stupid soundcard. It kills me, but I do like this board a lot and can't wait for a healthy one.
Just buy the audio card from someone not using it. A lot of ppl use SB X-Fi cards etc
How is the soundcard that came with this board? Is it any much worse then X-Fi Extreme Music?
I just flashed to Bios 0802, @ 400x9, it wouldnt just boot, untill I disabled transaction booster. Only now testing the cpu first. Priming now 400x9 / 3.6ghz @ 1.272 vcore small ffts, hopes it will end up stable.
I will part with mine if anyone is interested. I also have the fusion block with the SB HS too. Also, my Q6600 GO (in my sig.), Vid: 1.2125 (3.16Ghz with only 1.088v P95 small ffts stable) is also available to anyone interested. You can see my postings for what this chip can do. PM me if interested in any of the above.
Anyone had some problems with the USB ports when trying to connect and transfer any data to WD Passport 160GB (external non powered USB HDD) for example?!?!
When i try to connect my WD Passport on the usb ports at the back of the mobo, and start to copy any data to my WD, i loose the connection to the WD HDD.
It's not a PSU problem (Seasonic 700W), OS problem (have Vista Ultimate 64Bit, but in XP with a fresh installation i've the same problem), WD Passport 160GB work fine on any other PC, and it's not the MB (I think), because i had the chance to test other one, and had the exactly the same problem!
My USB front ports (Silverstone TJ07) connected to the USB headers on MB, have the same problem. If i connect the WD Passport 160GB there, the HDD turn on but i can listen a "click" (it sounds like the HDD start spinnig but doesn't have power to boot) and then stop, another "click" and then stop (and so on), and i don't even get OS to recognise the HDD.
With USB pen like Corsair 2 or 4GB i don't have any problems at the same usb ports! Even in the front USB ports of the TJ07 connected to USB headers on MB.
Any suggestions?
Thx!

Grnfinger: No. Only the mini-usb->usb cable that came with the WD Passport 160GB.
One strange thing, is when i connect this WD Passport 160GB on a friend PC, with the same hardware (except gpu's and CPU - my friend have 2 x ATI HD3870 in CF and QX9650), this WD Passport works like a charm! In the front ports (on a TJ07 too) and the back ports!
At first, i was thinking it could be my usb frontal with some kind of prob, but now i don't have any clues about what's wrong!!!
you may need one of these to provide extra power, there about 10 bucks
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...finger/usb.jpg
Thx for your quick reply!
Yeah...maybe i need that cable! But why this is happening if in my friends PC with the same mobo, PSU, internal sata HDD's, same sata DVDRW, case, WC system, i don't have this problem?!?! And in other motherboards like DFI P35, eVGA 680i on this same case with same hardware don't have this issues?
Anyway...thx! Maybe i'll try the new eVGA 780i SLI motherboard!
no clue, Have your tried an email to Western Digital?
someone besides you must have had this issue b4.
You might also check back in a bit when others have checkd the thread, my external drive requires separate AC power, a bit of a pain sometimes but its never let me down
hmmm, looking at the first post again it seems that there haven't been any 4.0 clocks. hell, i don't even see my 3.9 in there lol. is there anybody out there with a stable 4.0?!?!?!
I have been working on 4.0
I can boot and have Vista load but I cant bench/stress anything, the moment all 4 cores go full load the pc bsod.
I'm not pumping anything beyond 1.575 to my cpu and I'm not very comfy with 1.575 to begin with.
I might shop around for a Yorkfield or a quad with lower vid
hows this???
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...0stability.jpg
I can't believe how easy this board has been on me... took me less than a day to find these settings. I think its time to start working on 4.1 now :D
Nice sonofander, I am also priming now 400x9 @ 1.272 running now already a few hours small ffts, its a L737B.

did you try to use less NB Vcore? just wondering....
I'm not working on lowering anything just yet... After my 6 hour prime run, I bumped my FSB up to 450 and am now priming away at 4.05 at the same settings. I'm gonna push to 4.1 and get stable there before I start lowering voltages. 6 more ticks on my FSB to go... 4.1 here I come!
Sure nelws1  I took also your settings into account , I am currently testing CPU only. As soon i found a stable cpu clock I will try your ram settings:up:
Priming now almost 4 hours small ffts @ 1.272 400x9
heh thnx :D I will run at least 1 full Prime small ffts loop , so approxi 9 and half hour, before I try to push further. Crossing fingers:), but I just put the ram to 1:1 800 5-5-5-15 to rule out any instabilitys causing by ram.
just for the hell of it, I too just tried 445fsb X 9 for 4.05GHz. After saving and existing the BIOS, the PC posted and the POST screen said, Unreconizable CPU, update your biOS for increased performance WTF:shrug: No matter what Vcore I set for CPU/NB/SB/etc... I kept getting the same message. WEIRD? I'm back to my 100% stable Low voltage OC of 425x9 for 3.83GHz. Im using bios 903, has anyone ever seen this issue before?
hmz seems odd m8, unfortunately I havent tested mine so far. I think there is some1 out here that knows the anwser.
I just finished my wc setup and just wanted to let people know that the thermatake extreme spirit II (http://thermaltakeusa.com/product/co...4/cl-c0034.asp)
fits pretty good on the sb.Will post pics soon.
Any good BIOS setup for a q6600 with the 907 bios @ around 3.5?
TY
So if the EPU driver's not installed, it runs in 8phase?
Also, does anyone know what the EPU chip shows up as once the driver has been installed? I'd like to test w/ it disabled.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...aximus/epu.jpg
If anyone doesn't have it installed w/ a ! listed, I'd really appreciate if they would throw up a dev mgr shot or compare it w/ my list.
Thanks!!
Thanks! That's a bit tough to see tho, I think you don't have the LPC listed.
I wasnt aware that I have to install a EPU driver? did I miss something? where on the CD is this driver, and what does it do? Is my motherboard no running at optimal performance without this driver?
Oke I got my Q6600 400x9 - 3.6ghz @ 1.288v prime small ffts stable for 10 hours+, now I am trying 425x9 @ 1.35vcore. But I am wondering if I bumped enough volts: I used 1.4v FSBv bios( 1.44 actual) and 1.49 v NB bios ( 1.51 actual). for 400x9, is this enough for 425x9? try to rule out this before I kept bumping vcore after it fails.
1. Already contact asus united states, they always trying to send me away. They said the driver is from Microsoft, and want me to contact microsoft.(Everytime I call, they just try to send me away or answer some wrong solution.)
2. Contact asus headquarter: ASUS Taiwan. Finally, I got the answer, they said that one is the AiBooster's device. You can either disable it in BIOS(under advanced -> jump free...) or install the driver from AiBooster software manually(after downloaded the AiBooster zip file, unzip it, it's under acpi or acpi64 with 64-bit directory. Of course, you still can install the whole AiBooster software).
Hey.. how to fix waterblock Apogge GT over Maximus Formula... both type of mounting are imposible :s because waterblock touch with heatpipes. :s
Please i need help :s
So, think it's time for clearing up some things and bringing in some facts regarding the NB temp storys going around:
Official Intel X38 thermal spec sheet:
ftp://download.intel.com/design/chip...x/31761201.pdf
from this:
"Component System Bus
Speed
Memory
Frequency
Max Idle
Power
TDP TC-MIN TC-MAX
Intel® 82X38 MCH 1333 MT/s 1333 MT/s 12.3 W 26.5 W 0 °C 92 °C
Advanced Fan Speed Control monitors an embedded thermal sensor. The maximum
operating limit when monitoring this thermal sensor is TCONTROL. For the MCH, this
value is 92 °C. This value should be programmed into the appropriate register of
Intel® Quiet System Technology (Intel® QST), as the maximum sensor temperature
for operation of the MCH."
Set NB voltage in BIOS to auto I get very high 1,648 voltages and idle NB temp of 69 C.
Manually set it to 1,53 brings 1,568v.
Set to 1,49 (the last green value in BIOS) brings 1,520v anf idle temp of 63 C.
All values are prime stable for 24 hours running 3d mark also in loop in background. The temps are with CPU oced 433x8= 3464 MHz(C2D E6850). Vcore is set to auto (1,320v) cause all manually higher set vcores lead to no boot.
Hope this clears up some storys about too high NB temps. As long as NB temp is less than 92 C all is fine. My 77 C when loaded are rockstable as the official Intel specs backups.
Went and checked this morning... My NB wasn't being overvolted all that bad (1.56) but my PLL voltage was insane! Set at 1.6 even, the board had it overvolted up to 1.74!
Thanks newls1 for the heads up. I dropped it down to 1.5 and it still gets overvolted to 1.61. So as 1.5 is the lowest selectable voltage, I guess that's as low as we can go?
I got mine set @ 1.5 BIOS and 1.6v @ everest
I mounted my Apogee ( not GT ) liek this mate, it's close but it works fab :
http://users.pandora.be/OAP/Hardware/P160/P1609.JPG
If you still not at ease you can slightly trim off the egdes of the mounting plate
Nice leeghoofd :D, hows your project progressing?
Jejeje.. but.. mine is not Maximus formula SE... so the heatsink of NB is more taller.... so waterblock not fit.... :s i'm going to scuff a litle
Anyone know the MM points for reading true vdimm, etc voltages?
yeah my bad, just cut off a bit mate , it will work fine... no really heavy modding to do there...
@MC2K well if my EVGA GFX card arrives gonna pop in the Q6600, the 8800GTX is in the cube hooked up to the WC loop, I ain't gonna drain that to test the rig :) the board is good as it already survived one lanparty at 8 x 400FSB (aircooling) settings so no worries there , hope just with the WC NB temps will go down a bit...
Yes.. a litle mod :d
I think that it will fit with any mod, but... i try with all type and all ways.. but no... i must mod it... :s if any have other idea please post it..
I will do this..
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/7...atex300cz4.gif
Or just the little top off isn't that sufficient ? but it will surely work like that, kindda interested in ya temps afterwards as my setup awaits it's quadcore CPU...
Can anyone please :bsod: help me with the values to achieve 3.5 on a q6600 GO.I come from from a 680i and i used to achieve 3.3 w/temps under 40,now @2.8 i get the same temps has @3.3 on the other board. The bios tweaks are unfamiliar to me and would really appreciate some help.I tried the 903 bios and I'm currently using the 907.
I'm using wc, 4gigs of 800mhz memory (that i don't want to oc)and a 88oogtx.
TY
How do the D-Tek FuZion CPU block fit on Formula SE?
The Dtek block fits no problem. I have one on the way from someone that used it on this board.

You can probably lower CPU PLL to 1.50
I already installed the driver and I'm looking to test w/ it disabled. I removed AI Suite, PC Probe (or what corruption was left) and deleted the ACPI folder, but the device's driver probably still remains in the Windows folder. I'm pretty sure it's one of the 2 devices I've highlighted, but...
Can you change the photobucket settings to only limit ya to 1MB files? That should give us full res. Or if it's too big, try picasa's export function, it does pretty good pic compression.
Did no one else try the M$ hotfix for this issue? I installed it, via the Maximus threads (I forget which one) and it worked a treat for the EPU problem.
Grnfinger It's a no go i put my cpu voltage to 1.5 and nothing" overclocking failed!" message.Any other help?
is this what you are talking about?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256
That's the one.
kup, is that required for Vista as well or XP only?
Now asus probe shows MB @150 DEGREES
You will see it says that in the BIOS too. Power down and back up and that will clear. I had that very same condition.
Alright, thanks to Kalispimenta we've got a pic of what dev mgr looks like w/ and wo/ the EPU driver installed. I remember my P5B Deluxe having a ! in dev mgr until one installed PC Probe. After that, the LPC showed up. The LPC Interface Controller's driver is provided by Intel according to the driver details page.
Intel(R) ICH9R LPC Interface Controller - 2916
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ifferences.jpg
I got my q6600 to 3.5 with the crazy option in the bios. Now, how can i see all my bios option so i can tweak them manually? Some bios when set to auto show the current value but not this one.Any solutions?
Pretty :banana::banana::banana: was testing my Q6600 @ 425x9 with 1.368vcore, it runned for 10hours + small FFTS, then I went afk again came back within 1 hour, it was rebooted..... So I upped now a notch @ 1.376, I am going to do the 12 hours mark to be sure...
guys anyone got settings for ballistix pc6400 ?? or any Pc6400 d9 chips on this board ?
After uninstalling and checking the box for deleting driver files, I got this on reboot...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uuninstall.jpg
Now dev mgr has lost an UMBus Enumerator and the LPC Interface Controller - 2916, but gained a PCI standard ISA bridge. Scanning for new devices doesn't show the unknown device (EPU) either. So yeah...anyone?
edit sorry
For 24/7 use shall i be concerned about my temps or my cpu voltage?
the temp the cpu can take lowers as you increase votlage, so BOTH!!! ;)
