Would a ANDY SAMURAI MASTER CPU Cooler fit on the board ?
Shouldn't be a bad choice since it blows towards the board.
Dimensions are length 125 width 137.
I am seriously thinking about moving from my Asus P5K Deluxe to this board.
What was the highest stable FSB with a C2D Dual Core E6750/6850 ?
BIG THX FOR INPUT.
I haven't been able to find in this thread if anyone is water cooling the NB. Is anyone, and what block are you using?
Don't think anyone's found a block that would fit.
On 24/7 oces i've not put much voltage through temps aren't an issue. Just running with cpu & gfx blocks.
Anyone linky to new uGuru version ? Abit uGuru 3.1X v3.107 for 2000/XP/2003/Vista/64bit
Someone tried HD3870 in Crossfire on this board. I just ordered two MSI RX3870 OC cards......:)
Hi,
Finally got my 8800GT ans so i was ready to set up my new pc:
Abit IX38 QuadGT
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0
Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with Noctua fan and Thermalright Bolt-Trough Kit
Enermax Liberty 620 PSU
4x 1GB Cellshock DDR2-800 RAM (Micron G9DH)
EVGA 8800GT Superclocked with Accelero S1 and Turbo Module
2x 500gb Samsung SATA-HDs
2x SATA DVD-Writers (Samsung 203 and Pioneer 212)
Scythe Floppy/Cardreader Combo
Logitech G15 Refresh
Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Cooler Master CM 690
MS Vista Ultimate SB
Hardware was quickly installed without bigger issues 8-pin 12v cable of the psu was a bit short, had to put it under the videocard, beneat that the board layout is great and all fits perfectly in the Cooler Master 690 case.
But than there where troubles with the software - installing Vista was impossible without more than one memory stick installed, it hangs anytime when 'Installation will be finished..' - tried it a few times with Vista 32b and Vista 64b DVDs, but no success.
I take out all memory sticks and left only one and the installation was successful - than tried to install the intel chipset drivers as i was thinking that the problem lies here...
But no success, the installation of the freshly downloaded chipset drivers last a very long time and also hangs than - still with only one gb installed...
System was very unstable than and i had a lot of blue screens than - tried to install three or four times copmpletly fresh but had no success. Immediatly blue screens and hangs and no sucess with installing the chipset drivers - only thing, that worked was the graphics driver for my 8800GT. Big Problems with installing of any other driver.
I checked all BIOS settings, voltages and so on - tried bios 11 and bios 12.b02 - no success at all
So i gave up with Vista and tried to install XP - no Problems at all, worked perfectly - even the installation runs with 4gb memory flawless!
Tried to install the other drivers (chipset, micron, graphics, sound and so on) and all worked perfectly?!?
Could this board have and Issue with Windows Vista? i Think not, that the hardware components here where the problem, as they worked perfectly under XP!!!
I think, i will disassemble the board tommorrow and exchange it with an IP35 Pro, as i really want a stable board....
Any comments to this problem, which possibly let me overthing this?
Many thanks and greetings from Vienna, Austria!
abit's AB9 QuadGT (P965X) board had the same problem with vista as you described...it was the bios...when abit caught up with the problem and issued a new beta bios, things went well with a vista install.
this is what really pisses me off about abit...they do not test it with the latest operating system release...they must all use XP for their corporate OS.
you would think they would pass down lessons learned as they move to a newer product for release...i guess NOT!
I think I am being bottle necked by my CPU.
See sig for full system speck.

My SM scores are not as high as most with the Quad's in there PC's.
Or do you think there is something wrong with my setup?
A setting not selected or something similar.
I pressed "default" for everything in CCC before I did those runs.
Rofor: Sounds like the board has been giving you a hard time indeed.
Silly question: Have you run MemTest on your RAM?
I have recently installed Vista 64bit on RAID0 and apart from having to connect an IDE DVD to install the OS - it all went very well. For some reason I can't see/boot from my SATA DVD. Vista has been fine, no problems at all.
One thing I do beforehand though is to slightly raise CPU VTT, MCH & ICH voltages. I find the system is less problematic to start, perhaps with a quad and hungry graphics card it just needs a tad more juice - and as in your case more RAM normally requires more v.
Maybe try disconnecting all non-required hardware too and use PS/2 keyboard & mouse. Good luck.
What did you expect?! You are running a CF with two pretty fast cards, but you are using the slowest C2D available
I think your results are ok, especially since the FPS won't go down that much in higher resolutions, thanks to your CF.
For high 3DMarks scores, you need a) a quad and b) lots of Mhz.
This was with my old B3 Kentsfield@3,2Ghz and the 8800 GTS.
Oh and by the way, I got my IX38 right here! If I only had some time...
There is a NEW beta bios 12B05.................
Thanks to Gilgamesh

Download Bios M704B_12.B05 Running which is an improvement over 03
1:1.25 still not stable. Keybaord in post seems a bit more responsive, but it might be wishful thinking:)
luck:)
ok...just installed with minor probs but nothing i can t handle,BUT,whats the best bios for me to update to and can someone give me the best settings in BIOS for a decent overclock...TIA
Matt.
See Key Posts for bios settings of various clocks BTA 12.02 is about the best performance & stability.
luck:)
I have only tried 11.b02 so far w/o any issues. Even 1:1,25 was stable up to DDR2-1100 - didn't go any further.
im pretty noob but i think abit ix38 is the best board i ever bought :p:. vista installed and work perfectly in 1 try. work great with my visiontek hd3870 CF. Below are my 3dmark06 score, card@default speed . all air.

Cheers ace:)
12.B05 is at least stable, i got 8x470@1.4625v1:1.20 Hve re-run it overnight on 5 & it's past 9hrs.
Ok fellas, tomorrow's gonna be the day - I finally got all the stuff I need to rebuild my rig (Scythe S-Flex 1200 instead of 800, T-Balancer, inline temp sensor,...) PLUS I finally have some time at my hands :D
So tomorrow we'll see whether or not the Mips PWM cooler fits the old AND new QuadGT ;)
how is this board, is it better than the gigabyte x38???
Build & package wise no but more bios features & slightly higher oclock. may improve further with better bios, though not holding my breath:). No super stable strap like the 2.66, in fact no 1:1.33 at all :(Quote:

Some pic's of that would be great if it fits .
i was trying to run my q66 at 4G and set the vcore at 1,65v
but under super pi load it drooopppp until 1,62v even when i set 1,67v still drop until 1,63v under load.havent try physical measure, since it quite cramp after i put fan for the pwm, using 12B02
how about you guys?
More benches had primed 470x8 @1:1.20 1128 22hrs using 12.02 b4 I got 12.05
Have repeated run 12.05 - 8x470 @1:1.20 1128 24hrs
Bench comparison Added to M704B_12.B05 Initial Feedback at 470x8 most of the benches favour 12.05.
The only downer appears to nbe no improbement of 1:1.25 strap, & also
luck:)Quote:

this is odd - every time I go into teh BIOS the CPU volts are set to teh default - but if I don't go into teh BIOS the voltage remains as set and so boots OK
confirmed by olliewbnn & myself.
So if you've just been in bios & your oc doesn't boot , look no further
Evening guys,
I had a pretty full day today but I finally managed to rebuild my rig :)
And to my delight, I can tell you that the MIPS PWM Freezer from my old AB9 QuadGT fits the board perfectly!
Unfortunately, you'll see the pics later cause I took them with a friends' camera and he didn't send them to me yet :(
First impression is mixed, I bumped my Q6600 directly to 400x9 - however still fighting to get it stable. It seems to need a lot more Vcore than on my old board, last setting I was running BOINC at 375x9 with 1,23V load for 2 weeks stable - with the IX38 I can't get prime to run even 1 second at that setting
But I just started, after all, and still using Bios 11.B02. Which one should I use, 12.B02 or 12.B05?
Anyways I'll keep you posted!
try with bios 12B05 ...............................
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/968/600ap1.jpg
It sucks.
I flashed to Bios 12.02 and bootet up 400x9 - or so the board would tell me at post. In Windows, CPU-Z, Everest and so on tell me that I'm actually running stock FSB - SuperPi confirms this. I also tried 12.05 with the same result - no matter what multiplier and fsb I set in Bios, it always uses the default FSB. OMG... should've stayed with 11.02.
I'm going to bed now, like I said its been a long day.
Ok so I found the culprit: It seems that my old µguru installation gave me all this trouble, even though I re-installed using the repair function. So remember, if you're taking your old windows from your old Abit board with you, completely remove µguru, reboot, reinstall, reboot, and you're fine :)
I am currently priming 450x8 with my Q6600, but it's not quite stable yet.
Anyone have some reference voltages for me?
Talke your pickStable Bios settings(well on my rig:)) 9x400,8x450,8x470
luck:)
Thanks, seems like I got it anyways ;)
About the pics, my mate's camera screwed up badly... so I just took some quick shots with my Exilim right now, nothing fancy but hey :)

wah the wb for the pwm looks nice bro :D hows the temp?
btw i just tried bios 12B05,after i set the bios n bench etc all look almost the same only the vcore setting display.
it always show me 1,3 no matter how i set the vcore it always back to 1,3
but the reading were correct,i meant if i set 1,5 then the guru will show 1,5.only the display at the vcore setting
are you guys having the same display?
but on the other side my mem can run higher on this bios :D before cant boot at 600 5-5-5 2,4v with bios 12B02 but now can even though not stable
Temps not that great (around 70 with Q6600@3,6), same problem as with the old QuadGT.
But since this one fits I'd recommend anyone who wants to watercool their PWMs to get the Watercool SW-7 as it will fit aswell, is made of pure copper and cools better. Plus it's cheap :)
Thanks for sharing pics, looks a good block.
What Vtt you using there??Quote:

Erm.. running 1,33 VTT. Like I said, the block doesn't make good contact intentionally. It has built-in "spacers" so that you can't crack the phase chips by accident. I'm gonna have to modify it - on the other hand, who cares? 70 C is perfectly ok for 24/7 use - and there's no noise.
cheers
Sorry missed the spacer thing. Have you noticed any change in the other components in your loop. The PWM block looks a bit restrictive wondered if it had any knock on effect.
I'm tempted to add one , as you say 70~80C ain't an issue, but quiet is nice, unlike crushed chips:)
luck:)
It's not that restrictive, but again, the block from watercool has less restriction.
This block ain't new anyways, like I said it was also used on my old QuadGT:
http://home.arcor.de/partywg2/QuadGT/Quad_mounted.jpg
As for the flow, there's some pretty good action going on in my loop considering I'm only using a HPPS+ (modded to 70Hz though) ;)
Most restrictive component is defiinitely the GPU-X 8800.
Back OT: 400x9 seems to be stable now, I adopted your settings with a tad more VTT and less Vcore (~1,32V load) ;)
Thanks what tubing you on??
That's Tygon, 11/8.
I'm shopping for a x38 board.
Can I run crossfire with 3 cards on this board?
How does this board stack up against the maximus and the dfi x38 board?
Well I'm finally back in the game since owning my IP35-Pro, went through a few mobo's since then with Asus and DFi, but havn't landed anything solid since I went back to Abit and glad I did. Absolutely zero issues from innitial setup, everything booted fine, raid drivers loaded and windows installed successfully without a hiccup.
Not sure what bios I have as I havn't made time to look, but I'm sure it's the first release.
I've only had the system up a running now for a few hours and I went right to work, no easy step by step taking it up notch at a time, I started at 8 x 485 and I'm sitting at 8 x 490 right now. I did try 8 x 500, but it froze, so now I need to tweak for a higher o'c and stability.
Very happy with my innitial results and hopefully she'll clock a little higher once tweaked.
I'll update as progress increases... Please feel free to comment on voltage settings as I'm still green with this baby, but does remind me of my IP35 days where I was able to easily crack 500FSB right outa the box! ;)
http://aycu35.webshots.com/image/376...7536333_rs.jpghttp://aycu35.webshots.com/image/376...3655794_rs.jpg
That's looking real good mate :D
I wish I had that CPU temp - what do you use for cooling?
Also nice low board voltages... how can you run 490 FSB with a quadcore w/o raising ICH voltage?! Amazing. MCH is rather low too :)
As you can see I did need to up those voltages. I'm still in the testing stage at this point, may need to increase some settings and quite possibly decrease others.
I wasn't able to crack 500FSB until I upped the ICH, nothing else helped until I did that.

In theory I strongly suspect so albeit 1 slot will be at x4 & will require a card with a single slot cooler.
Once they all have mature BIOS I doubt that there will be much between any of them (same as P35).
The Maximus (& the Gigabytes X38s) only has 2 physical X16 slots though so no chance of 3 way Cf.
how is the mosfet temp??
can anyone check?? cuz the Abit 680i had really bad connection between the mosfet heatsink and mosfet
The pwm temps you mean look 2 poists above for idke speeds. with active cooling & vtt at 1.36v good enough for 470x8 load is around 72C see post post#443
& jcool's post around the same area.
Ok... and that is.. what? I don't think anyone's ever seen that one over here in Germany
But nice to see you got 500 FSB - you all think the board will need lower voltages with a Q9450? Cause I was sort of planning to run 500*8 with a Yorkie 24/7 (and I won't run 1,66V MCH 24/7 obviously...)
how are you guys managing to hit such high fsb with the quad's. I've tried all sorts of settings with the board and i cant stress test at anything past around 380-390 on a x7 x8 multiplier. I can however run 9*400 however heat is an issue as my heatsink is warped for the moment.
I've tried some of supershanks settings for his fsb overclocks on the quad but have had no luck. A soon as I start prime95 the screen freezes and then around 15 seconds later i get a BSOD.
Could this just be the processor not beimg suited to high fsb? I am also still on the shipping bios that came with the board if that makes any differemce.
Any ideas as it seems strange that i can reach 9*400 however at a lower overclock of 8*400 it just locks up??
Sounds like a bios issue.
I'd try 12.B05, see if it helps. Only major issue with that one is that every time you enter the bios, your Vcore setting resets itself back to your CPU's VID. But it's easy to circumvent if you know how: just set your desired voltage via the offset and it will keep the setting.
Also remember to put a fan in front of the PWMs and, in case of watercooled CPU, the NB.
Hey there, sorry I just took it for granted we all know about Coolit, their a company based outa Calgary AB Canada
It's essentially a Liquid cooler/TEC combo all self contained requiring no maintanance.
Here's a couple of reviews...
http://www.extrememhz.com/freezone-p1.shtml
http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1055
Link: http://www.coolitsystems.com/
Ah sure, another HS/peltier combo... looks nice though. Someday I'm gonna have to get myself a chiller.
I tried to hit 500FSB aswell in the meantime, the good news is, I hit 490x7 w/o a problem, bootet right into windows and was even 3dmark stable.
However, I can't seem to get to 500 no matter what. I guess the CPU doesn't like it or whatever.
Anyhow, one major point: ICH voltage seems to be crucial for QC overclocking, at least for me (as it was on my old QuadGT)
I tuned down every single mobo voltage for 400x9 and all went well, until I set ICH too low. 1,05 gives pirme errors (custom blend - inplace) after 1 minute, 1,10 gives a nice BSOD (IRQ not less or equal) after a couple of minutes, 1,15 is primestable but crashes if I run BOINC and CoD4 simultaneously (:D) and 1,20 is rockstable.
Oddly, I observed this behaviour with various boards and a few different quads (B3 and G0) so watch the ICH voltage if you wanna get your rig really stable.
Got two HD3870's last friday. This my setup:
Q6600 G0 @ 3.6ghz
8 * 450 FSB
DDR1080 @ 4-5-4-18 @ 2.4 @ 1:1.20
2 x Club3D HD3870's @ default
3Dmark06 = 18975
3Dmark05 = 22003
Crysis 1280*1024 @ high = 4875,3
Crysis 1600*1200 @ high = 3845,3
COD4 @ 1600*1200 @ 16*4 = 110 fps
Need for Speed Most Wanted = 111 fps average
2 x Club3D HD3870's @ 837/1251
3Dmark06 = 19258
3Dmark05 = 23123
Crysis 1280*1024 @ high = 5017,2
Crysis 1600*1200 @ high = 4001,1
COD4 @ 1600*1200 @ 16*4 = 115 fps
Need for Speed Most Wanted = 119 fps average
Cant overclock the Cards any higher without freezes. Im going to replace the coolers soon. The coolers do work but @ a very high noise level. If i set the coolers to 60% with rivatuner they stay very cool but when i start gaming they run to hot. You have to tet them to 80% but it sounds like a Boeing landing in the garden......
Nice nordien:up:Microsoft Flight Sim should be good then :lol:Quote:
it sounds like a Boeing landing in the garden..
More than 1,5? Wow... I was running 490x7 with 1,35V ICHIO 3DMark stable so I'd think 1,5 should be enough ;)
mark0326. is it the abit ix38 your using? if so did you use a bios which didnt cause any issues?
I really need to update the bios. I've butchered a floppy from an old pc.
anybody know if there are multiplier issues with the shipping bios and if its worth changing to one of the beta's?
I all also noticed that you have an enermax supply which i'm sure ive read can cause issues with this board. I've got the infiniti version.
Funkers, I soon found the Enermax Galaxy had problems with the IX38 so now have CoolerMaster Pro 850w - no problems.
I didn't have the x8 problems with the boards original 11 BIOS, don't think I tried x8 on the B03 but I certainly do have problems with the B05!
SuperShanks said he did have some similar problems but the board sorted itself out eventually - just keep trying. Maybe worth trying to re-flash the BIOS.
Out of interest, what batch is your CPU? Mine is L731B509
(need to update my comp specs - sorry)
Yeah my Liberty 500 also works well...#
B03 sucks according to supershanks, so you might just try b02 or b05... I'm still quite happy running my Q6600@400x9 and my 4Gigs of ram@1000 with very low voltages, but I just have no time for further testing atm.
jcool: any problems on the 1:1.25 divider? Others have problems with stability.
I've been tinkering with the IX38 since Saturday and thought I'd share my observations so far.
First, a quick rundown of my system:
Vista Ultimate x64
Q6600 G0 L24A something
IX38 B05 BIOS
1950XTX
4x 1GB Ballistix Tracer
Watercooling with:
Fuzion w/quad nozzle
MCW-60
PA 120.3 w/ 3 low speed Yate Loons
Iwaki MD20RLZ
7/16 Tygon
I'm currently orthos stable for 15+ hours 412x9 memory 1:1. I have vcore at 1.53, temps 52-58C at load. System is much more stable without uGuru running, so I'll be trying to get that vcore down some.
8x450 is not happening even with the ICH votages cranked way up. I've not had time to test for max FSB yet.
Active cooling is a must on the PWM's. No fan got me over 120C. I now have 2 92mm fans twist tied to the tubing to blow on the PWM's and NB. If anyone would like to create a NB and PWM waterblock for the IX38, I will be your first customer. ;)
This no go on 8x450 is really strange. I'm running mine with ICh at 1.12v settings here nordien is also able to run fineQuote:

Yep to that:)Quote:
f anyone would like to create a NB and PWM waterblock for the IX38
As I already stated earlier, ANY PWM Freezer made for the Abit AB9 QuadGT/Abit IN9-32X Max will fit the IX38 QuadGT.
There are models available from www.mips-computer.de and www.watercool.de
Unfortunately, there is no NB block available as of yet, but Mips is working on it - will be finished soon ;)
About the 1,25 strap, I'm running it now with 4G D9GMH@1000 4-4-4-12.
Seems stable, 1000 5-5-5-15 is definitely stable (3-4 days BOINC + Games)
Bios 12.B05
How can you miss that, with these huge pics :D
Anyways, I'll ask the Mips guy whether he'll ship overseas... I know him personally since I live not far away ;)
You can see the mips PWM block on my pictures, the watercool PWM looks like this - just no-nonsense straight copper :)
Sounds sensible :lol:Quote:

New BtA 12.06 from Gilgamesh M704B_12.B06

does Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Cooler fit on Abit IX38 north bridge?
I did some playing with the FSB last night and got some interesting findings.
7x440 = lockup on windows startup.
7x430 = lockup on windows startup.
7x425 = lockup on windows startup.
So on a hunch, I dropped it to 6x400. This got me a BSOD as soon as Windows started to load. This is really strange as I'm Orthos stable for 20 hours 9x412.
I think the problem is not so much with the high FSB as it is with using a multiplier under 9. Anyone else have similar issues?
No I'm sorry... I can boot into windows even at 490x7 or 495x7... I hit a wall with 500Mhz however.
Edit: Check out my settings:
http://home.arcor.de/partywg2/QuadGT/IX38_490.jpg
Some voltages might be a bit on the high side but overall it's ok - even runs Prime lol.
Only that the memory performance really isn't that great with Bios 12.B05... especially latency sucks. This is my old QuadGT for comparison (running 1066 strap and more FSB i know... but still)
http://home.arcor.de/partywg2/Pics/everest510.JPG
Thanks jcool, I'll have to give those settings a try. I've been a little hesitant to raise the ICH too much since it's uncharted territory for me.
I may have found a workable NB block here, any comments on this?
Edit: Another question, possibly a stupid one..... CPU-Z does not show accurate vCore for me. What am I missing?
Nothing. CPU-Z didn't show accurate Vcore on the old QuadGT, and it doesn't do it with the new IX38. Just use Everest or guru ^^
NB block could fit but personally, I don't like Koolance too much.. will be waiting for mips (should be ready after christmas).
Let us know when you see that mips block. :)
I'm sure there's a post I've missed out there, but are there any explanations of CPU vtt and how it relates to the vCore?
As i said in this post 9x400 12HR Prime Stable it waswas the biggest breakthrough for me, I've found since that the abit will manage with roughly 0.2v less than the fraph shows.Quote:
If anyone wants a detailed explanation of GTLREF & VTT see QuadCore Ocing although written for the DFI UT P35-T2R, both boards have identical VTT & GTLRef bios settings.
Thanks for that. I would have looked harder but I've been putting out fires at work all day. Kaspersky pushed a bad AV update last week that's been keeping me on my toes.... Now anything and everything that might go wrong with a workstation or server is automatically an AV problem, and I have to prove that it isn't before any real troubleshooting starts. ok /rant
Now to get to work on some FSB testing....
need help! does Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Cooler fit on Abit IX38 north bridge?
Well, I read up on the Anandtech article and I'm still having no luck at all with any thing on a lower multi. With the following settings:
CPU VTT = 1.6
MCH = 1.6
ICH = 1.45
ICHIO = 1.6
I tried from 6x450 down to 6x420 and windows locked on loading every time. :bsod: :explode2: :brick:
To show you I'm not crazy though (very debatable), I'm typing this on a suicide run of 9x434. It's nowhere near prime or pi stable, but I can surf and give you guys a cool screenie. :pimp:

Ok guys, I just talked to Michael Franke from Mips-Computer - they have an IX38 board with them and are currently developing custom coolers for the board.
He will send me a NB block as soon as they are finished, should be around January 3rd. I also told him to cut the distancers for the PWM block short by 0,3-0,5mm so as to achieve a better cooling effect.
He said they'll look into it - and they are shipping to almost anywhere on the planet including, of course, the U.S. and Australia.
That'll be interesting to see jcool:up:
seems bios 12.06 is better than i expected performance wise at least it was on 8x470
will test 3.6k later.
AMDfreak. Let us know if you have any luck with the multiplier. I'm having the same problem not being able to run at FSB above 410-415. Out of interest what power supply you using??
Hi all! Well, I'm having an obnoxious problem with this board, or perhaps more accurately, the BIOS. With the shipped BIOS (can't remember what they were, probably 10), I couldn't change bus speed or multiplier without having to clear CMOS to get back into BIOS. Flashed to 11 and now after some incremental changes it seems to be working fine. However, uGuru can't see my bus speed and cpuz shows my core voltage at 1.184v, also cpuz thinks my multiplier is x6 and will not change from that (shows me at 334x6 when it should be x9). In BIOS everything looks to run fine and everything is reporting as it should.
Should I just not believe cpuz/uguru? Should I flash my bios to .bo6? other than this, vista64 install on RAID0 went off without a hitch!
I thought I had seen someone with a similar problem in one of the forums but i can't find it now :( Anyways, thanks for your help... I hope I'm doing some simple thing wrong so it will be a simple fix ;)
Welcome ScubaMob. :welcome: Give the B06 BIOS a try and see if that helps.
