Any news/opinions more from the 1104..?
Any news/opinions more from the 1104..?
Anyone know of any cold boot issues with this board just built myself a new system and i'm having a bit of a headache with it. The system will run fine but every now and a again it won't post it just turns back off it will get as far as the mem test phase the only way i can seem to be able to get around this is the clear the bios(bat out etc etc) and start again. Ha you wouldn't believe the fun i had try to get my raid to run.
System specs:
p5e3 deluxe wifi
q6600(g0)
2 gig corsair twin3x 1800c7d
x-fi
8800 gts 640
2 x seagate 320 in raid 0
enermax infinity 720.
Hey guys!
Ive tryied the BETA bios 1104. Cant see any improvements. Ive got one issue with the new flash. Sometimes 1 in 50 tryies my pc wont boot normaly. I push the start button and the fans start to spin same with hdd. No picture on monitor. If you push on reset nothing happens. You have to turn in off by holding the pwron for 5 sek. After youve done that the pc runs like usaly. I dont know if that have with the beta bios or incorrekt setting in bios? Ive set the most settings to defoult or optimazed. Well, you guys got any clue how to fix this problem?
My system:
Asus P5E3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP
BFG GeForce 8800Ultra OC
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion Edition PCI
Intel Core 2 EXTREME QUAD X9650 3.0GHz 12MB FSB1333 Boxed
Corsair TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX G 2x2048MB
Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000rpm 16MB Cache SATA
Cooler Master Stacker 830 EVO ATX/BTX SILVER
be quiet! Dark Power Pro 1000W 120mm ATX2.0
I'm using the 1104 bios too, after changing settings in the bios i have to power off and on to get it to boot (fans come on HD etc you can hear the gpu fan at 100%) but it also did this with the earlier bios too.
Version 1001 is working great... My Ram is extremely stable, and I was able to lower my CPU volts...
Looks like you guys should try v1001....
Ooo has anyone been able to find a NB or SB Water block that fits the P5E3 Deluxe????
I dont have any problems when i change setting in bios. Just normal restart. The fan 100% this is exaclty same problem. Spins and no picture. Tunr pc off and on again and it runs fine. But i cant say that i have had this kind of problem with previus bios. Any ideas?
Possible OC problem... Check your volts... That would happen to me when I OC'ed my ram too high... Everything booted up but no screen... Just gated it down a bit, and everything worked great....
The thing is that i havent Oc anything in my pc. Only BFG GeForce 8800Ultra OC but it was already oc by BFG. All other settings is on defoult and optimazed.
I'm not really sure what's wrong... I would flash back to your original Bios and test it out... Also don’t flash from your OS (Only run flash updates in your Bios).... Using your OS to load flash updates will only cause more problems... Also have you run Memtest to make sure your memory’s okay...? I've had a few bad sticks before...
Also the P5E3 Deluxe works allot better if you manually set your bios... The Auto Settings suck, and are inaccurate for the most part…
On another note: List your specs (Type of CPU, RAM, GPU, OS, and Current OC Settings - This info can help others develop solutions for your problem...
1104 works fine on me..even better than 1001 ..
I'm guessing it could be a ram issue, i know mine is faulty it won't run stable at recommended settings and i'm awaiting a RMA. I think i isolated the cold boot issue to the mem latency (i hope). But the having to power down after the bios changes i'm not sure i thought it was just a querk of the board
My computer automatically powers down/resets every time any adjustments are made to my CPU, Ram or volt settings. I’m sure this allows your system to realign itself.
Question: Have you used Memtest to check out your ram? It’s always worth a shot... I've also heard that allot of people had problems running Ram rated at1800 MHz on the P5E3... I personally haven't tried it... I'm going to stick with the 1600's and OC them to 1800...
Memtest86: Bootable CD - Highly Recommend To Check Stability Before Running OS W/ New RAM Settings.
1. Download the ISO current version (memtest86+-1.70.iso.zip) to your PC.
2. Extract the .zip file to a location that you know, like the Desktop or Downloads folder or next to the .zip file. You should end up with the file Memtest86+-1.70.iso
*Note* If you have WinRAR (or similar) installed, it will look like an unzippable archive with nothing inside. Do not open it with WinRAR.
3. Go to your favorite CD burning software, and choose to burn from an image file. Simply point to the memtest.iso file and hit the "burn" button.
Eg: Nero>Disk Image or Saved Project>[select the memtest iso file]Ok>Next etc.
4. Insert a blank CD into the drive and let it do its magic.
5. Presto, you have a memtest bootable CD. Simply leave the CD in the drive and boot from CD by pressing a key (if needed) then running the test.
I’m unable to locate the table… Can you attach a link…? Thanks…

The table is in the first post
Thanks...
No worries i hope it helps, even if it points you in the right direction. Anyhow keep up updated on any progress.
Gutted, just sent my ram off today for replacement. But hopefully it should fix my stability issues
Hey again!
Brave, i hope your problem will be solved soon. Im not sure my problem is bad memory sticks. Ive checked my memory with Vistas own ram check. Runned it for 5h no errors. In not sure if i can run Memtest 86 becouse on the ramstick there is a warning "Corsairs line of 4gb kits are designed for pcs featuring 64-bit os. Installing 4gb onto pcs with 32 bit operating system is not adviced nor supported under warranty". That made me unsure about the Memtest 86. Im kinda offraid of damaging my sticks. So thatfore i checked with Vistas.
Anyways im trying to fix my boot problem with disabling the express gate atm. I have seen that some ppls have had problems with that. Have read some info on asus own forum and some ppls have got issues that are simular to mines, they resolved it by disable the express gate, so ill give a shoot. Like i said beffore, this issue have happened like two times in 100 boots.
Btw, there is two things on my mind. First, I have Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion Edition PCI installed on my system. I have disabed the integrated soundcard on the motherboard. So the question is, is there for real that big different between the integrated soundcard and Creatives?
Next question is about my mouse. You see i have a steelseries Ikari laser mouse. The thing is that when i turn my computer off the small diod on the side of the mouse keep shinig. Why does it do so? Is there any way to turn this off?
My system:

be quiet! Dark Power Pro 1000W 120mm ATX2.0
Nothing overclocked only the 8800 OC. All settings set to auto.
Dron,
I wouldn't worry about the 64bit/4 gig issue. if the ram is fault its faulty but lets cross that if it is.
1. have you tried just running with two gigs and does the problem still occur.
2. give mem test a shot with all 4 gig's in and leave it running for a good while the more passes the better ideally you should be error free no mater how long you run it for (especially when your not overclocking).
let us know how it goes.
Ok on to the sound card. I've also got a x-fi but im not using it at the mo till i get my system stable.( it gets in the way of the batt)
But i can defiantly notice the difference and i can't wait to get the x_fi back in there.
Hey again!
Brave, thnx for fast answer. No i havent checked with only 2 gig. Right now ive started the test (with 4gb) and yet no problems with the memory. In some case it feels that this ait memory issue. Ive installed Vista on the PC and runned it all day long. All from just have system runnning without any hard application and to heavely loaded games like NFS etc. No hangs, memory loaded to 2,9gb. Ofc there can be some kind of problem after 2,9 gb thatfore ill let the pc run the memtest all night and at the morning see if there is any problemes with the sticks. But stil it feels that the express gate might be the "bad guy". Well, if the mem test doesent find any problems with the ram, what is the nest step you sudgest? CPU? Is there any program i can test the CPU like i do with RAM? If so ill be happy if you tell.
So you dont use the Xfi card? Only becouse if the battery? In wich PCI port have you installed it earlier? You see ive installed mine at the first PCI port "over" the 8800 and i can reach the battery without any problem.
Btw! There is a new BIOS update.. 1109. To bad Asus doesent give any info about any changes. Only the "new cpu support".
Hi!...
Waiting for new Quad Core for this next week I upgraded BIOS to 11.09. (altough I have not tested 11.04 - latest was 10.01)...
I am using a PIV HT 630 (FSB:800) yet. With OCZ 3P1600EB1G/2G Enhanced Bandwidth memory. It is working a lot well, like I could put the memory to 4-4-4-12 latencies (at DRAM Freq:800, of course, because of the PIV and manually).
One thing I've seen is that before this BIOS (11.09) my PIV has Temp problems (beside 65ºC) and PC Probe always get red warnings... after boot to Windows XP. Now I am not getting more red warnings...
And before that the 4-4-4-12 latencies make hang my computer without knowing why (must use 5-5-5-15 latencies - manually)... after 1h or 2h of using/playing with it... It is going well...
More records when the new processor arrives....
EDIT:
3D Mark06 Results with my ASUS EN7950GT VGA:
4168 with BIOS 10.01 (5-5-5-15 latencies).
4378 with BIOS 11.09 (4-4-4-12 latencies).
SuperPi is the same... 1m 42s to perform 2M.
Hi Dron,
I just put my x-fi in the bottom slot out of habit i guess. You'll have to let us know how the bios works out.
Does you PSU have a 8 pin CPU plug??
Hi Brave,
Ah i see. I used to put mines there to but nowdays i try to follow "closest to CPU" method. Yes, i have 8 pin contact, but on the MB there is a plastic "plug", so i cant use all 8 only 4. Why?
About the new bios seems to me its working ok atm. No hangs (yet). Runned my memory for atleast 6 h yesterday, no errors. Ill try to run it once moore today for some h just to be sure.
Hi Dron...
About 8 pin contact plastic "plug", if you read the page 2-30 of the manual, paragraph 8, there it says to unplug the plastic cap on the EATX12V connector if you want to connect an 8-pin EPS +12V power supply. You must be sure the power supply meets this specifications...
8-pin for the EPS +12V and 4-pin for the EATX12V...
Hi Nostradamus,
I have checked the manual and your info is totaly correkt. Ty! But, now im confused. 8-pin for the EPS +12V and 4-pin for the EATX12V... whats the different beteen thouse? I have checked my PSU and there is a 4 pin cable there like standard. I cant unplug it from PSU, but i have got a 8 pin cable that i can plug in into my PSU so i can use the 8 pin on motherboard. When i read on the be-quiet homepage about this cable (named P8) i got this:
"- P8 connection for dual server mainboards"
So the question is, 8 pin or 4? Difference?
Hi Dron,
Well... I think I don't have the sufficient knowledge to respond to the difference between EPS +12V and EATX12V issues.
I only know, that in my case, the power supply has the specification EPS +12V v2.01. When I see the PSU it has 2 4-pin rails that could get into the MB PSU connectors. I think that the old motherboards have only the 4-pin EATX12V connectors, but the news, as the P5E3, has the EPS +12V (4-pin x 2) connections. In some form, if you have an old PSU you could use the 4-pin ONLY form (maintaining the cap that avoids to plug the 4-pin rail from the PSU on the MB).
I think that searching for google you could see that if this Be-Quiet 8-pin (P8) is the EPS+12V connector you are searching for.
Although, I am not an expert with this, maybe another guy could answer your questions better...
I don't know if this could help, but... what is exactly your Be-Quiet model?
Hi Nostradamus ,
The PSU is: be quiet! Dark Power Pro 1000W 120mm ATX2.0 20/24-pin 4/8-pins 12V Modular. Its same here, im not an expert with this but rlt need help to get my system running normaly.
I have to tell you that i have conected two cables to my MB from PSU. One Contact is 24 pin (?) i think. The "big" one on the right side of the MB. Sry im at work cant see the name of the contacts. The second one is near the CPU. The plastic "plug" is still there but i have connected a cable with 4 pin.
Ty alot for helping me out!
Dron,
Let's go to define the wires:
1- 24-pin for the wattage. (Sometimes it's 20-pin+4-pin as in my case). I must join both to plug on to the 24-pin contact and take off the cap on the connector of the MB (for put the 4-pin) if I don't remember well... I thing your PSU is a 24-pin connector directly but could be converted to 20-pin if needed.
2- 4/8-pin (voltage regulator? - this info I don't know). Here I have 2 x 4-pin wires from the PSU (joined by a slip or something to don't confuse with the other wires). In your case I think that P4 and P8 are the 4-pin or 8-pin for EPS 12V.
Here there is some good specification:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/content/448/2
Have you tried to connect P8 to the 8-pin connector on the MB (without plug in the PSU to the electricity, of course) to see if it fits?
Hope this helps a little more...
Hey again,
Yes its correkt. I have connected my PSU with 24-pin connector without any convertors. The second connection is the 4 pin connector that i have connected to the mb. Both of this connectors are "fixed" ( you cant unplug them from PSU). I havent tryied to connect the 8pin cable into MBs 8 pin connection.
It would be nice to know if there is any noteble different 4 pin vs 8 pin in system stability/preformance.
Btw, on my PSU there is a RPM controller. Its a cable that you can connect to the MB to controll the fan speed. Right now im not using it becosue i cant find any information in manual about this function. Do you know if there is any connections for that on MB that ive missed?
Ty alot Nostradamus for your help. Two heads are better then one. :)
P.S
You can see, http://www.guru3d.com/article/content/448/7 there is 3 cables. 1. 24 pin. 2. 4 pin. 3. the fan cantroller cable.
Dron,
Well... my suggestions are arriving to the end... The only thing I am assuming is that P8 connector from PSU is for 8-pin connection on MB... but it is better to wait if another one could help you better to know if it could be fitted on MB.
Using 8-pin I've readed that improves stability when using high performance components... that's only what I know...
I've seen the RPM connector but I dunno what it is for on your PSU. The MB has the CPU Fan, Chasis Fan and there is a 3-pin connector on the MB for the Power Fan (see page 2-29). Could be this?
I see, well ill see if the 8pin fits. Hum im not sure that the fan connectors is for the PSUs connection. Im not even sure 100% what its used for. Hope to get an answer here... :) Ty alot anyways for your help m8!
Seeme that this conector on the Mb is for the fan inside the PSU. Seems that it controlls the speed.
Hello again!
Ive recived infoabout the connection on my PSU. It is built to get something called "tacho signal". That shall be something with speed of fans. You guys got any clue if that connection shall be pluged in Power Fan connection on MB?
New bios 1109 out..the ftp site is locked so this time is at the official support site..
Hey dron,
Have you plugged the 8pin cpu connector in. Don't worry about the rest of the stuff lest go one thing at a time.
And is you system still having stability issues : )
Hey Brave!
ive checked the connection and yes it fits. :D Well the thing is that i dont understand why i shall use a 8 pin when i have a 4 oin standard connection. :)
I have connected the PSU "tacho cable" connection to the Power fan connection on MB. Cant tell that i see any differents. Hum hummm....
Instability? I can tell becouse like i said beffore its very rare. in 100 boots maby 2 times. Havent got any problems since the new bios update and still running auto seting in Bios. Ill give the system a try and ill keep you updated if ill find any problems. ;)
How about you? Is your system up yet?
And btwm no problems with RAM. 10 h up running tests. No errors.
the 8 pin plug will give you a better and cleaner voltage to your cpu giving better stability. And the chance's are you PSU tacho lead just feeds the PSU fan speed signal to the mobo (you should have a reading in the bios now)
As for mine (thanks for asking) im still waiting for my replacement ram to get back to me, ive had the replacement confirmation.
If you've been running memtest for 10 hours with no issue ii think your very good there mate lol.. So at least we know its not the ram issue, this then leaves your PSU as the next probable cause, and as we've found your not using the 8 pin power plug so hopefully this should solve your issue
Hi Brave,
Cant be PSU, already changed it. :) Ill try to get more info about the 8 pin and gice it a try. But, so far no hangups or black screens at the boot. So, maby that was:
1. Old bios 1004 Beta
2. Express gate (its off now)
I duno, ill give my coputer a chanse. Ill keep you updated if any news accur. I hope your ram will arrive to you fast so you can continue building. :D
/Dron
Dron, trust me use the 8pin connector for your CPU.
Oh ya hows the latest bios,
Hum ok, ill give a try for that then. Ill connect my 8 PIN to MB when i come home. The new BIOS? Duno havent got any issues...(yet). :D Are you running the new one to?
Has Anyone flashed this board to a x48 P5E3 Premium? does it work?
Hiho again m8, Brave. Now i have pluged in the 8 pin cable. Ok. Day 1. Lets see for how long the system will run. :D
Then again! Im not using the express gate..
Haha good luck mate, fingers crossed. But I'm sure it will be fine.
I'm still waiting for my ram though.
just to share !! trying with bios 1104....:) :)

I havea question:
Do any of you have a Xonar DX or Xonar D2X PCI-E Sound Cards in your system. I'm trying to buy one, but first I need to make sure it will fit on the PCI-E 1x of my P5E3 Deluxe.
I need to fit it on the first PCI-E 1x , since the second one is covered by my 8800 Ultra. I'm planning to get an aftermarket cooler for it. And since my Soundcard on the 2 PCI is not letting me do it, I would like to see if I can free that PCI so I can put a big ass cooler like the HR03 or the Accelero Xtreme.
In th asus boards I saw XGMAN (one of the xtreme members having that card on a P5E3, but I'm not sure where is it installed.
So will it fit on the 1st PCI-E 1x?
Thanks a bunch in advance.
The xonar is the same size as the prelude right? If so then yes it will fit.
Hi oscar3d,
I've finally putted in this motherboard the Xonar D2 (PCI) in the first PCI slot, near the Wifi. Well, it fitted correctly, but because I have only 2 memory DIMMs.
It gets a little of space from the first DIMM slot, and I should moved it to the other two. If you have 4 DIMMs you must use (and I think it is the same for PCI-Ex version - I don't know for DX, but I think so for the D2X) the lower PCI/PCIe slots.
Any info on flashing with a x48 bios or a maximus extreme bios.
Hi all - first post here!
How is the 1109 BIOS shaping up? :comp10:
Just wanted to get some feedback before updating...
Its about the same as v1001 IMO... I flashed back...
Thanks malkiewicz.
Off topic for a bit- Where did you get your EK Supreme? I've been trying to find it in Oz...
Thanks guys for your replies.
Ok. I've fitted my Xonar D2X Card on the Las PCi-E Slot. yes I'm using 4 sticks. And also modded my 8800 Ultra KO with a Zalman VF1000+RHS88 Ramsink +AS5+ a 120 Fan
The full specs of my build are here FYI
http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums...ic.php?t=47716
I was happy since I made the mod. BUT...
I'm not not that happy with it now. Warm days are coming now. and I noticed that while playing Crysis the GPU was going up to 85C Hmm.... On idle this thing sits at 60C which is OK.
Do you guys think I can go ahead and try the Thermalright HR-03 Instead
THe 1 billion dollar question: Would it fit with a 120mm fan?
These are pictures of my current modded VF1000:
http://www.3doracle.com/build/overallchange.jpg
http://www.3doracle.com/build/vf1000second.jpg
What do you guys think? Any P5E3 Owner with one Hr-03 installed?
PS: I'm hating ASUS for deciding to have the first bracked not to be a PCI-E... A very bad decision for this mobo...
Nice setup
Looks like you have plenty of room for liquid cooling (Can always use a cheap kit)... Dosen't take much liquid to cool 8800's... Your max temps under load would only be around 50C... Just a thought...
How does this board handle 4 gigs at high FSB i'm looking at getting 2 more gigs of my current ram when the price drops a bit ok ok a lot lol
4x1GB @ 1600 7-7-7-18 no problem.
Hi all, well i ain't getting my corsairs back so i got a refund. Ive decided to go for 4gig(2x2gig) of 1600. But ive got two possible choices
1. 4GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum EB XTC (7-6-6) Dual Channel kit
or
2. 4GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz HZ Series (7-7-7-18) Dual Channel kit
The OCZ is a little cheeper so i'm leaning that way at the mo. I also figgured that because these are 2 gig modules i don't think ill get much more than rated out of them.
Thanks
Go with teh G.Skill... The OCZ say 7-6-6, but most have to use 7-7-7 or higher to get it stable on the P5E3
Thanks Malkiewicz,
I went for the G.skill's especially after reading your post about your troubles the the OCZ modules. I also found a few other posts about the same type of thing. Man i think this board is just way too picky especially of your running a quad. Well G.Skill is meant to be the most compatible memory in the world so we'll see how it goes you'll have to keep me posted
About OCZ Enhanced Bandwith at 1600Mhz, I have it at 7-6-6, but I must configure it on BIOS manually as it does not have XMP Profiles. Using 1109 BIOS.
Here is a CPU-Z and a Memset screenshots:
http://www.telefonica.net/web2/juarapa/cpuz.jpg
http://www.telefonica.net/web2/juarapa/memset.jpg
Another thing to configure it to work is:
RAS# Precharge: 6 DRAM Clocks
DRAM Voltage: 1.88/1.90
PCI Spread Spectrum: Disabled (try on Enabled)
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled (try on Enabled)
You could see in OCZ forums this memory configured and stable on a Maximus Extreme:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=33146
Nostradamus, are you running 2x1gig or 2x2gig. Ive read post that say the 2x1's fly but the 2x2's seem a little more picky especially at the high FSB
You have it on the signature.
I am running 2x1Gb modules. Maybe with 2 Gb it is a bit diferrent... sorry.
Hey no worries man, Just trying work out if this is a ram limitation, but then i had issues with the corsairs but that was when i tighten the latency up. mmm
i just received my replacement board after the last one died
it took sooooooooooooo long it's not funny
anyways it came with 0704 bios from last year. What are the latest bios files like. Which one stands our like dogs balls to be the best so far fellas
i am talking about RAM overclocking (P5E3 DELUXE) and FSB overclocking for dual cores
thanks for your input fellas
i'll also have a look at some of the last few pages of this and another couple of threads
i hate flashing Asus boards because you cannot go back lol
pretty fast board
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/8...z11m11slv7.png
Well, I'm using 1109 and its working fine. You can roll back with ASUS BIOS's just switch off the computer when you are flashing a BIOS then use the CD to recover the BIOS.
lol nah man
just died for no reason
hey this new bios sucks
i wish i backed up 0703 because on that bios i could get higher FSB and i could also get Ai Clock Twister: Stong + Transaction Booster: 3
you can see how crazy fast that superpi run is
Well..think that 0901 is the alternative...if you remember some pages and time ago you were glad with that..
FSB was great on that bios but performance was not
i am sitting on that bios now and 1T doesn't work and i cannot get Stong twister to work
bad efficiency
i will wait until i can find that 0703 bios and put it aside and play with GB X48T-DQ6 :D
New bios 1203 is out..
New build with this mobo (P5E3 Deluxe Wifi) Need to update sig, forgot I was already registered. Main rig prior to this is an Asus A8R32 mvp the DFI has gone to my oldest son. Its been a slow build as up until now I got stuff as I could afford it, the cpu was the first thing i got. Had other home repair crap taking up all my time and money.
bios 1203 flash succesful using USB thumdrive and EZflash from bios, cleared cmos to re-enable express gate. Shipping bios was 704. Now OS time. Thanx to all who have reported experiences as everything has gone exactly as described.:D
Update: XP pro sp2 installed without a hitch, then i put it up for the night. CPU idles at 30c and RAM was detected with 2 profile option (nice). Tried to save a buck there but future upgrades are a Raptor drive for OS and second 500gb drive for raid, Vista SP2 disc from Newegg, and a 1600 4gb DDR3 kit (something with lower latency like the HPC OCZ Reapers, also a better cpu cooler.
Now to installing all other drivers and software (yawn). Going from a 320gb drive to 500gb drive. Going to pull it out and hook it up to my old rig and just put everything in a folder. Also got the missing remote from ebaY. I know its a gimmicky board but me liky, and with the wifi access point my wife can use her PDA and laptop away from my rig and I can setup a wireless connection for the kiddy's various rigs. This build went swifter than my last Opteron build.
Once all the software is setup the overclocking can begin. Time to read up on some Intel Core 2 guides. Any tips for certain guide favorites are welcome and rep will be returned if needed. I am not new to overclocking but have had very limited experience with Intel for sometime. Nice to have a build I can be proud of again, all my dual Opteron rigs hold a special place in my heart though.
Nice setup... Good luck with your OCZ upgrade... I've had nothing but problems with my mine... RMA'ed 3 Times...
I’ve pushed my Q6600 to 3.77 GHz... 24/7 no problems... For some reason 3.8's unstable...
Nice overclock:up:. Mayhaps I will stay with Gskill and go with one of their 4gb kits, and thanx for the vote of confidence. I am hoping with my good cpu temps I can hit 3.4ghz+ on air. Gaming on here is secondary going to be doing alot of encoding, ripping, and video editing. If anyone here has experience with setting up their remote please post any problems to watch out for or any other usefull tips. Same for setting up an access point with the boards built in wireless card.
Update: Everything is working OK. Have a couple questions though. My multi won't stay at 9 it keeps dropping to 6. I tried uninstally AIsuite and EPU driver with no success. All setinngs are in the bios. It will go to 9 but won't stay there. Is there a setting in the bios that will lock it in. I disabled AI clocktwist and and other auto overclocking functions. Also any good guides that are maybe specific to the Asus x38 chipsets?
I tried setting up the ACHI function for my harddrive a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500gb 32mb cache model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288 , but it blue screens unless I leave it on IDE under SATA configuration in the bios. My DVD drive is IDE so there shouldn't be any conflicts. I tried uninstalling the Intel raid driver but it auto reinstalls no matter what I do. The hard drive also needed a firmware update because of cache recognition issues (only 8mb would show). Is there a app that can can identify if all the cache is working?
Done some mild overclocking: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=364108 FSB 333 Vcore 1.25v w/multi-9 for 3ghz, strap on auto, Vdimm 1.65v 8t,8t,8t,15t@1333/Command rate of 1n all other settings on auto for now. I will read through the other thread here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=160849 but any suggestions are appreciated. I got Coretemp reading of 1.32 VID not sure if this is good or bad.
Gave it a try and it stayed on my system for about 10 mins. Needless to say WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. total unstable wouldn't even recognise XMP.
Oh ya malkiewicz hows ya g.skills going got mine running stable at recomended no probs , the XMP does make life easier haven't tried pushing them yet. In fact there unstable when i tried to run them at a 266 or 333mhz
You have to disable EIST so the multi doesnt lower itself to 6, but it only does so on idle and doesn't affect performance, you should disable it while overcloquing to achieve stability and then you can enable it again. You can test the HD performance with HD Tune o HD tach if you have winXP.
This is how my BIOS looks like for a Q6600 this has been 100% stable for the past 5 months.

Oooo and yes I'm enjoying my G.skill Kit - glad to see your not having problems... lol, but I’m still trying to get my OCZ kit stable... I think I won the battle today... I've been running Prime for about 8 hours now @ 1600 7-7-7-24 w/ OC of 3.6 (9x400) @ 1.54 volts... – Keeping my fingers crossed... (Already passed Both Memtest & Everest Stress Test)
Thanx for sharing your settings. I am just doing a mild overclock right now to break it in http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=364765 . I have a ton of software and I am still installing various apps. I went ahead and pu my HD2900xt in cause I am going to install Vista premium sp1 and wanted DX10 in all its magical splendor. I did Prime95 for a couple of hours and no errors. Will do 8+ hours later. Also getting ready to set up the wifi access point. I am using only the updated drivers and software from Asus. Just now installing 3dmark06 to see how much better a score I get over my old A8R32mvp build. I know that I was bottlenecking some even though I was running the 170 Opty at 2.8ghz. Will post results in a bit. This build speeds through my conversion program. Where it took 45 minutes to convertan avi to wmv is now done in less than 10.
Finally my OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC3 12800 “OCZ3P16004GK” Kits Stable @ 1600 7-7-7-24

i just got qx9650 and id like to overclock to 3.6ghz.
the thing is, ive never overclocked cpu before.
can somebody please share their bios setting?
thanks
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=365986Played around a little more with voltages NB 1.4v CPU 1.35v ran prime95 for a couple of hours, no cores ran over 66c. Whats temp ranges do I need to worry about for a Q6600? All seems pretty stable rnu some more prime overnight. Also I left express gate on to see if it affects overclocking that much.
Hi i new here i have just upgraded my system to ddr3 with this motherboard and have been having problems with the PC probe utility and it giving erratic temp readings etc. Some times my MB temp will jump to like 124 degrees celceus and all im doing is browsing the web also i think my cpu temp is wrong too as it never moves from 24 degees and each core stays at 42 degrees. i am using the bios that shipped with my board 0601 and apart from erratic temp readings i have had no problems. Should i update my bios? i am running two 1gb sticks of g.skill 1600 and in the future will get another 2 1 gb sticks for 4 1 gb sticks total does anyone know if i will run into problems running this configuration?
Thanks again and this forum rules :)
Hey thanks malkiewicz for the imput i will do that but, what bios are you running or reccomend for me and my setup, also i see in you sig you are running the same ram as me just more of it, are you running 2 2gb modules or 4 1gb? how is it working for you?
I would try versions 1104 & 1109 first - Version 1203 seemed a bit buggy...
I purchased the 4Gb (2x2) kit becasue I heard it's nearly impossible to manage 1600Mhz with four 1GB modules... I've also notice that G.Skill, Mushkin & Corsair 4Gb kits seem to work best on the P5E3 Deluxe... You really can't go wrong with your G.Skill - I'm sure you could reach 1800-2000Mhz easily if thats what your into...
Hi i tryed the 1109 but still it was broke suck at 24 degrees so i updated to 1203 and its still stuck at 24 no mater what. do i have a faulty motherboard? it reads all other reading right like voltages and motherboard temp. I have checked with everest and it also says 24 with both vore temps frozen at 42 no mater what load. Could i have a bad cpu or what? i a bit stuck here?
It’s possible your board’s defective…
- 1st Check your Bios Temperatures and compare to OS results
- If they are normal then it’s a possible driver issue (Chipset, ECT) – Reload Drivers…
- If the BIOS temps are corrupt – Clear RTC RAM (Refer to owner’s manual for guidance)
- After you clear BIOS - Restore Default settings & Restart
- Check Temperatures Again
- RMA the board if you’re still having issues….
You can always try calling Asus customer service before you RAM, but I must warn you… They seem to know very little about their own boards, and will eventually refer you to the RMA Department… I remember calling them about my express gate – They had no idea what I was talking about…
Good luck…
An Update: Re-flashed Bios with v1203 - Was able to reduce the CPU, DRAM & NB voltage... Stable...

Dear forum members and experts with this motherboard.
I own a P5E3 Deluxe with an Intel E8400 (3Ghz), and i have a problem, so i came out on this website.
The problem is that my CPU is running at 2Ghz idle, which is multiplier 6x, and on load 9x at 3Ghz.
But i want my system always to run on 3ghz.
I tried turning everything off, CE1, speedstep, setting multiplier to 9x in bios etc, it just keeps doing the same thing, idle 2ghz, stress 3ghz.
What can i do to make it run on 3ghz? Or is it just this mobo with the special power saver or something?
Thanks.
:welcome:
I had the same problem and the only setting I changed was the C1E. Once I turned it off my Q6600 stayed at 9x multi. I also updated to bios 1203. Some say its buggy but I haven't had any issues. I used a usb drive and the EZ flash option in the bios. Alot of people have reported errors when flashing with Windows. Iused to flash my Asus A8R32mvp Deluxe within Windows without issue but I wanted to be sure I didn't have a bad flash..
Hmm, ill check it out.
When i bought this mobo, i flashed it 2 days later withing windows vista. It went wrong and my mobo was dead. I had to return it, and a week later i got a new one... which i flashed in dos with afudos.
I have a modified bios though, i think im not alowed to talk about it in here so i wont.
I currently have the 1001 stable/final (not the beta one). So i'll see if i can turn off the C1E and let the other things on default.
Oh you can't say something like that and leave it hanging:eek: I want a modified bios too:confused: What extra options are availabe? How did you get it? Are you a secret Asus double agent with a kickass spy name like 00X38 Deluxe? Come on spill the beans who the hell am I going to tell. If it lets me run my Q6600 at 4ghz on air I will let you have one of my kids (just kidding...maybe). If you don't tell I will give you one of my kids cause I am so damn tired all the time.
Haha lol...:ROTF:
No it is not such a modified bios. It's a modified bios with oem slics inserted, and i think it is illegal to talk about such things. What it does, you can search on google for it.
It's not that you can overclock even higher, wish i could do such a modification
And thanks for the tip about C1E, it worked, strange, cause i tried it before but disabled everything. Well now it works, i'm happy again :D
BTW, does someone know how far i can overclock my memory? It is a OCZ Reaper-X 4GB (2x2GB). The one with the large heatpipes (this: http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...nced_bandwidth).
Bye.
Glad I could help, and i know now what you mean about the bios now. I had time issues with my old Vistas installs but I am all legal now. Those reapers is what I am shooting for; with looser timings you can probably push it pretty far. I woulod check OCZ user forums as they got loads of info on what settings work and with what boards.
Until now only problems with that 1203..pity for Asus:shakes:..will try to go back to 1109..
First of all..very low Fsb max..after 399 doesnt boot with 8 or 9 multi ..ram cannot run at stock speed/clocks ,..before with the 0903 & 1109 was at 8*450 easy..reminds me the same issues with the 0803 bios..unstable,with XMP no boot ..every some boots need to press F1 and save & exit...
Yes nick... the new version sucks..... I'm not having the same issues, because I can use FSB of 470, but its not stable all of the time.... Seems like I get the numbers right and everythings stable - reboot and wow.. The system crashes... Reboot again and its stable....
